First three phases for South West Four 2016 announced

Almost forty acts complete our line-up so far and with many more to be announced across eight stages, we’re confident that this next move will cement our position amongst Europe’s elite even further.  As ones to never back down and accept the norm, phase three will continue to build the greatest line-up found anywhere in the UK this summer….

JUST ADDED TO SATURDAY 27TH AUGUST

Having just single-handedly sold out one of Europe’s most iconic venues with almost ten thousand fans losing their minds to his unmistakeable methods at Alexandra Palace, Andy C returns to South West Four in the form of his life. This year he’s back, but on a whole new level as the uncompromising turbine of sound will take to the outdoor main stage to play in total darkness for the very first time.

CULTURE SHOCK

Responsible for developing drum and bass’ most promising breakthrough talent into the genre’s greatest artists over the years, RAM simply stands in a league of its own. From releasing seminal, timeliness classics to hosting international arenas and residencies, the imprint’s success is second to none. Last year saw them host a stage in one of the festival greatest ever highlights, this year they’re back with even bigger attack as they host one of our gargantuan 10,000 capacity stages.

Hailing from Belgium and firmly marked as one of Europe’s top talents, Netsky [Live] has confirmed South West Four as his only London festival performance of 2016 and will headline the stage. Championing the underground with standout crossover abilities, we’re extremely pleased to announce that Nick Douwma aka Sub Focus will also join this illustrious drum and bass line-up. His relationship with RAM has seen him grow into the global phenomenon he is today and with a reunion on the horizon at SW4, this is huge. Rising from South London, Wilkinson has confirmed that he will return to South West Four for his exclusive homecoming performance on Saturday 27th August. After headlining a RAM NYE 2015 to a sold out Brixton Academy, the demand for his return is unbelievable.

Circus Records founder Flux Pavilion has chosen South West Four as the exclusive date for his the full debut of his mesmerizingly immersive live show. After providing the capital with a ground-breaking performance at Ministry of Sound in Dolby Atmos last weekend, we can officially reveal that he joins us the stage’s very special guest. Mastering an uncompromisingly original and emotional sound, the Dutch trio of Noisia are renowned for their unparalleled technical skill and instantly recognisable techniques and also join us. Camo & Krooked have enjoyed an incredible rise to the top of the ever-changing world of electronic music thanks to their unparalleled inimitable style of fusing boundary-pushing sounds. After proving their position at the top of the scene for over a decade, the Austrian duo return to SW4 for another exclusive date.

After reuniting in celebration of their influential imprint Full Cycle, SW4 is pleased to announce the arrival of a truly timeless act. Joining the RAM stage on Saturday 27th August, we are excited to reveal that Full Cycle presents Roni Size & DJ Krust will arrive exclusively on Clapham Common. Favoured for the chaotic carnage, anarchy and disorder witnessed in his previous Clapham Common displays, it’s easy to understand why we’ve invited one of the most revered names in the game back for more of his bone-shaking beats as Friction also returns. Arguably one of the most exciting talents currently rising out of the RAM Records camp, SW4 is excited to bring Toronto’s Rene La Vice to Clapham Common for the very first time.

Fresh from releasing their debut album ‘Paradise Lost’ on RAM earlier this month, inviting Delta Heavy to join us at SW4 was inevitable. As big fans of their trademark sound at here SW4 HQ, we can’t wait to see what the duo have in store for SW4. Armed with new music and plenty of surprises, there’s no doubt this will be worth the wait! Completing RAM’s onslaught for 2016 is one of its favourite and most talented producers. SW4 please get ready for the return of Culture Shock.

JUST ADDED TO SUNDAY 28TH AUGUST

JAMIE JONES VS JOSEPH CAPRIATI

DANNY TENAGLIA • JOHN DIGWEED

JONAS RATHSMAN • CUARTERO • MAR-T

Undoubtedly one of the biggest bookings of our entire two-day Bank Holiday Weekender, this is one we’ve wanted to shout about for some time. After witnessing the coming together of two of the underground’s most celebrated DJs at DC-10 last summer, we’re pleased to reveal that Jamie Jones vs Joseph Capritai will arrive exclusively at South West Four this summer. Responsible for the greatest Ibizan highlight of 2015, the demand to see Jamie and Joseph back together behind a pair of decks is phenomenal. Each weighing in at the very top of their game, this is simply unmissable.

Considered amongst the true greats of electronic music and ranked within its most influential characters, SW4 is honoured to welcome Danny Tenaglia back for his first performance at the festival in eight years. This will form his first UK show in twelve months, making his return all the more special as he joins us for a rare performance on British soil. No artist has made an impact on SW4 quite like our next addition. Returning for an incredible thirteenth year in a row, Bedrock boss John Digweed has formed in inseparable relationship with South West Four over the years. His parties across South London have become the stuff of legend, with his unrivalled ability to create the most sought-after electronic atmospheres.

After following his progress in recent months and witnessing his back-to-back session with Sasha at Electric Brixton on NYE, we’re extremely pleased to reveal that Jonas Rathsman will make his South West Four debut this summer. Having risen through the ranks of Saved, Desolat and Moon Harbour, Cuartero joins us for his debut SW4 performance this August. Also joining us for the very first time on Bank Holiday Sunday 28th August is Amnesias long-standing resident Mar-T. Another standout Ibiza favourite, the Barcelona-born producer has spent the past twelve months releasing on Get Physical and Mad Tech in addition to 2015’s fantastic remix of Popof’s ‘Going Back’, don’t miss him.

With the announcement of the UKF Bass Stage and headliners still to come, the hotly anticipated event is making major waves across Asia’s dance music community.

Unquestionably entrenched in the lore and history of both dance and travel, Goa has been an international hotspot for electronic music for decades. The Goa Trance movement of the early 90s, which was so influential on the modern sounds millions drench themselves in today, originally blossomed from the area’s reputation as the global hippy capital in the 60s and 70s. Now over half a century later, Vh1 Supersonic Festival promises to carry on the tradition for the next generation.

SW4 2014 – Saturday Review

SW4 always promises to deliver a huge lineup; and this year was no different. Clapham Common battens down the hatches once a year for an onslaught of thousands of festival-goers eager to experience some of europe’s finest EDM DJ’s and Producers in the flesh.

We arrived at Clapham Common to a slightly cooler day and walked around the site to get our bearings; there was four stages this year, The Gallery, The Last Day on Earth, the DJ Magazine Arena, and of course the Main Stage. The set times had been posted so we knew where we needed to be and when; and first up was Oliver Heldens on the main stage. Somewhat predictably the early crowd knew exactly what they wanted to hear – Gecko. He set the scene well for the early comers, and we got some great photos of the crowd enjoying a rave in the sunshine.

Next up on the main stage was Danny Avila, who has had a quick rise in EDM, and now normally plays with the big names in the US – but his UK festival appearance this year shows his universal appeal. His bootleg of Ellie Goulding’s Burn went down particularly well.

Leaving the main stage, we headed over to catch Loco Dice in the DJ Mag tent  – at our earlier interview with Tristan Ingram, he’d said how much he was looking forwards to Loco’s set, so we couldn’t miss it either and made sure we were right there to catch all the action. He didn’t disappoint and obviously really enjoyed his set; bouncing around the stage like it was midnight! It was still early, and the sun streamed through the tent’s openings – it got pretty hot in there, but the crowd stuck with him on his deep but funky journey.

This is where it all got a bit hectic; we rushed back to catch Fedde Le Grand, saw him play a few stormers including Off With Yer Head, but we had to rush off again for Booka Shade – who were playing live in the Last Day on Earth arena. The stage had been cleared of the DJ booth, and in its place was two ‘pods’, one containing percussion, and the other, synths. The crowd was in for a treat! The guys gave a really expressive and vibrant performance, interacting throughout on the mic. Off again to catch Super8/TAB in the Gallery briefly before we rushed back to catch Seth Troxler while it rained (timing!). Seth is a relative newbie by comparison to Sasha who followed him in the Last Day arena, but by no means less impressive, and he really delivered a storming set to amp the crowd up for Sasha.

The festival site isn’t too large, so all the running about wasn’t too difficult. The entire central area was made over to food trucks and rides which made a welcome distraction for some.  We made it back in time to catch New World Punx on the Main stage – Markus Schulz and Ferry Corsten are ever the showmen and put on a fantastic show, really hyping up the now growing crowd – the huge screens had some amazing visuals and NWP had the pleasure of playing as the sun started to dip in the sky – what a beautiful sight it was. Alesso followed NWP and played a lovely dj set, warming up nicely and building the vibe for W&W, but it was over to catch Aly & Fila for us in the Gallery arena where the crowd were really getting into it.

Knowing that Markus Schulz was up next we stuck around and were treated to a great set, punctuated with classics – always one to play to the crowd and we were not disappointed! The vibe was electric and you know when Ferry Corsten is hanging around back stage that something special is going on. I could have stayed front and centre there for the whole set, but Above & Beyond were up on the main stage, and we had to go capture!

By now the sun was well and truly down, and the lighting on stage picked up a notch- the Above & Beyond show had begun. Huge vocals, and reach-for-the-lasers tunes are what A&B are known for, and they certainly delivered right til the very end.

Thank you SW4 – a fantastic day with some amazing moments and something I’ll remember for a long while. The journey home with the sorest feet I’ve had in a long time, and I can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Highlights for me were Loco Dice, New World Punx (Markus!), Aly & Fila and of course Above & Beyond. Epic day

Fatboy Slim, Above & Beyond and more set for Rockness

Hot on the heels of the first acts being revealed for RockNess 2013, the next heaving-with-quality announcement of artists heading to Dores this summer is here, including the first acts landing with devastating effect on the SUB CLUB SOUND SYSTEM and SOMA RECORDS on the ARCADIA AFTERBURNER.

First up, and we couldn’t be happier, FATBOY SLIM is heading back to his spiritual home as Very Special Guest!  There at the birth, and checking in to Dores as often as his in-demand globetrotting allows, no other artist in the festival’s history feels the RockNess love – or drops such monster levels of raveability – as FATBOY SLIM.  For those yet to experience the quite frankly outrageous party euphoria induced by Norman…get ready!

Fatboy Slim

Sending this message to Rocknessers ahead of June, he has this to say…Comin’ home to baby on the shores of Dores…RockNess I’ve missed you…feels so good to be heading back to see how my wayward child has grown. Roll on June, roll on The Scottish Highlands, roll on the party”  We’ve missed you too Norman. See you soon!

With the tightest productions and finely crafted, vocal-laced gems, released across 3 genre-defining albums on their Anjunabeats label, ABOVE & BEYOND are setting the trance bar very high indeed. Playing to packed out crowds at the biggest dance events on the planet, the trio’s relentless stadia touring schedule, which includes playing to 1 million people on Barra Beach in Rio, as well as soundtracking Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic Spaceship Two and taking their TATW radio show to the Twitter top spot across the world, RockNess is very pleased to be welcoming ABOVE & BEYOND to Scotland this summer.

MADEON is one of the most electrifying artists to have burst on to the scene in recent times. Having delivered a set of outstanding quality when he made his debut Scottish appearance at RockNess last year as part of an all-French assault headed up by Justice, the 18 year old megastar is back for more demolition!  Mind boggling numbers of youtube views, production credits for the likes of Pendulum and Deadmau5, appearances at top festivals including Coachella…MADEON is on fire. Standby for a litany of sounds spanning nu-disco, house classics and full on electro bangers!

JULIO BASHMORE is leading the charge and cultivating house music like no one else right now. Which goes some way to explaining the level of excitement and stratospheric rise surrounding this Bristolian.  Having garnered a devoted following based on the slew of singles and EPs he has put out since 2009, electrifying club sets, plus production on the incredible JESSIE WARE’s Mercury-nominated Devotion (another RockNess must-see artist!), JULIO BASHMORE is delivering on the hype.

If anyone knows how to throw a banging party, STEVE AOKI does. The Dim Mak Records founder’s style is totally unique. A bit of dub step, bit of house, little bit of pop intricacy too, AOKI’s hardcore LA roots underpin his propulsive energy and raw punk attitude. STEVE AOKI rocks a crowd, and he’ll most definitely rock Dores!

Steve Aoki

As a member of dubstep pioneers Magnetic Man, BENGA is co-responsible for an output of undisputable quality, punctuated with junglist tendencies, tech-laced soulfullness and guest vocals from the likes of Katy B and Miss Dynamite. Along with Magnetic Man comrade SKREAM, one of the genre’s first and most prominent producers (La Roux, Bat For Lashes, Goldie and Toddla T), the two are forging the freshest musical directions, heard in its glory every Friday on their BBC Radio 1 ‘In New Music We Trust’ show.

German house duo BOOKA SHADE channel the spirit of the underground but reach out to festival-sized audiences. Having leapt to the forefront of dance with a clutch of hit tracks, as well as lending production magic to artists including The Knife, Moby, Roxy Music and Hot Chip, and garnering a string of awards along the way, fans can look forward to hearing new material off EP ‘Haleshop’, released on the highly acclaimed Get Physical Music label which they co-founded.

Philadelphia’s JOSH WINK  is one of the most prominent exponents of the tribal forms of techno and house.  Resting on the laurels of his huge success in the 90s has never been an option for WINK, who instead has consistently forged new directions in the underground scene, as well as enjoying the highest respect for his remixing of artists including Radiohead, Gorillaz and Nine Inch Nails.

To hear PAN-POT’s simply colossal sound is to hear techno as it is intended. Tagging themselves as “the dark side of the force”, PAN-POT plumb the deep uncharted depths of pitch black techno, turning convention on its head with an unorthodox kinetic sound that stands them as one of the genre’s most dominant forces. The reverberations are still being felt from the last time our SOMA RECORDS friends brought PAN-POT to Scotland…so we are beyond excited to confirm they return in 2013, this time to RockNess.

A genuine homegrown hero, Glaswegian JACKMASTER’s rise to fame is about as storybook perfect as it gets.  Co-founder of the city’s long running NUMBERS collective, which played to packed out crowds at the legendary SUB CLUB and swiftly spread to dancefloors across the world, the element of glorious surprise underpins his sets every time.  Few can hype a crowd quite like JACKMASTER – as his global DJ’ing schedule in 2013 bears testament – and we are extremely pleased to be welcoming him back to RockNess for an unmissable set of sheer quality.

Regarded as one of the most forward thinking club nights in the world, the SUB CLUB’s weekly SUBCULTURE residency is an institution that reigns supreme. HARRI and DOMENIC are revered by the electronic music fraternity the world over, and week in week out bodies are jacked at this inspirational residency. Last year we were spoiled rotten at RockNess as we celebrated the start of the SUB CLUB’s 25 Years birthday party, Twelve months down the line and come June there will be no finer exponents of house music to bring the year-long birthday party to a close than HARRI & DOMENIC. And to toast the prospect of another 25 years of treats!

GARY BECK is one of the most prolific and inventive producers on the scene. A unique sound, and in high demand at the world’s most respected clubs and festivals, his style can be heard on electro’s most pioneering labels, notably SOMA RECORDS and his own imprint Bek Audio.  Now on its 12th release, Bek Audio features a raft of top notch artists such as Slam, Mr G, Mark Broom and Speedy J.

HANS BOUFFMYHRE began his career in Glasgow with a night called 'Sleaze' where he booked and played alongside the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Funk D' Void, Chloe and Radio Slave.. Fast forward and his Sleaze Records is trailblazing as one of the UK’s most impressive techno labels. HANS’ tracks enjoy the support from luminaries including Richie Hawtin, Dubfire and Adam Beyer. Check him out this June and witness why.

JAGUAR SKILLS is a British DJ who has gained notoriety for his eclectic multi-genre, cut-n-paste style mixes. He has released hundreds of mixtapes, including across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, and plays out to the nation with a weekly mix on the Trevor Nelson show. JAGUAR SKILLS has also dropped vocals on Grand Theft Auto, occupied a residency at Jade Jagger’s Jezebel night at Pacha in Ibiza, then latterly at Jezebel happenings in Europe, Russia and Hong Kong, and retains his mystique by famously wearing a balaclava during performances.

These latest electronic acts join EXAMPLE, BASEMENT JAXX, MADNESS, THE VACCINES, BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB, BEN HOWARD, ELLIE GOULDING, THE MACABEES, JESSIE WARE, CAMERA OBSCURA and NEWTON FAULKNER.

Nas, Above & Beyond and more added to Balaton Sound

New acts are joining Balaton Sound next to the already confirmed all-stars. Here come New York hip-hop legend, Nas, the three trance superheroes, Above & Beyond, one of the most colorful drum’n’bass icons, DJ Friction and many more. This will all take place between 11-14 July by Lake Balaton at Zamárdi, Hungary.

Hip-hop icon from New York, Nas, has several Grammy nominations and millions of albums sold. The colorful and charismatic rapper belongs to the most influential elite of the genre. He’s been performing for twenty years now and he is considered the best MC and songwriter of our time. Among his eleven studio albums, he has released some of the best hip-hop albums of all times, like ‘Illmatic’ or ‘It was Written’ that lead the charts for weeks in the US, as well as ‘Life Is Good’ released last year, that was in the race for the Best Rap Album of the year at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Nas

The three trance superheroes, Above & Beyond, consists of Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki. They joined forces in 2000 and since then the trio have made several significant albums. Their tracks are built in by the biggest trance kings sets, while their latest album, ‘Group Therapy’, made it into the best ten on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list. Their label, Anjunabeats, released its 10th compilation album this year.

Friction is one of the most versatile and skilled DJs in the drum’n’bass world and his pioneer work and efforts were recognized by the most prestigious professional awards. He was selected into the group of the genre’s all-stars on the Drum & Bass Arena Awards in 2011.

Raffaele Manicone and Michele Colombo aka MiniCoolBoyz will definitely leave an impact by becoming the audience’s favorite with their minimal techno project, for the second time now at Balaton Sound. For their groundbreaking techno works, the Boyz use the genre’s Detroit roots and the latest results of the progressive tech house researches.

Modestep has a crushing dubstep reinforced with drums and guitar that does not leave a moment’s rest for our nerves and senses. Their tracks have reached impressive ranks on several British charts. The London-based quartet is the most ambitious and promising dubstep formation of our times.

Lead by Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, Slam, has been an important figure of the British techno scene for two decades now. Their fast and exciting sets do not only affect the party animals of the UK, but also the audience open for innovative techno productions. Now they will hit the stage at Balaton Sound!

Besides the international stars you could listen to some good Hungarian music, as Akkezdetphiai, Andro, Brains, Budai, Carbonfools, Chriss Ronson, Coyote, Dandy, Ganxsta Zolee és a Kartel, Hot X, Irie Maffia, Jay Lumen, Muzzaik, Naga & Beta, Nora Naughty & Rocha, Palotai & MC Fedora, Poli & Polarize, Sena, Sterbinszky, Vad Fruttik, Yvel & Tristan and many more!

SW4 2011 Review by Hannah Hassack

Arriving for the Saturday line-up at about 2pm the party had very much already started. The queues of people waiting to get in moved at good speed and there was just enough time to swig a cider or 2 before we were in the middle of the action. And the mud.

The majority of people arrived at the event between 12pm and 4pm, wanting to make the most of the excellent value line-up. At £40 for an early bird ticket, SW4 attendees couldn’t deny they were getting a good deal, with a very similar line up to Creamfield’s at nearly half the cost.

With it being the first of the 2 day event which spans the August Bank Holiday weekend, the grass was fairly green when we descended, the facilities were in good nick and spirit levels were high (in terms of both vodka and mood) The general atmosphere can be described as Creamfield’s meets Park Life, which is unsurprising given the line-up. Dance lovers paradise, this wasn’t an event for the faint hearted. Forget flowers and mellow swaying, think welly-stomping and glow-sticks!

The weather was predictably unpredictable; swinging between bouts of strong sunshine and bursts of rain, but people spirits weren’t dampened. As the fields became muddy and the poncho’s came on, it only seemed to spur people on and give them the energy to have a good time, all was embraced and a festival glow spread like jam and fuelled our fire as we danced the day away.

Things kicked off with Underworld on the Ministry of Sound’s Main Stage, with it being their exclusive appearance in London for 2011 crowds were strong. Their techno rock cocktail was a brilliant way to kick off the afternoon and as the throngs filtered in it was quite literally music to eager ears. The energy and excitement of Underworld's gig set the bar for the entire event, and what followed didn’t disappoint.

Underworld were followed by Laidback Luke, Zabiela and Pete Tong to name but a few legendary acts known for their energy and power to get the crowds going, while over in the Cocoon area, Sven Vath, Loco Dice and Josh Wink held their own.

A definite highlight was undoubtedly the rip-roaring response Above & Beyond received when they kicked things off in Group Therapy Arena. This entrancing trio have edged their way slowly but steadily onto the electro scene over the past few years and their fantastic catalogue of hits and lesser known tracks has made them a must-see and didn’t fail to wow us. Mixing it up with some Sirens of the Sea classics as well as some Group Therapy numbers of latter release, the ravers were more than satisfied.

For a bit of variety, Over in the Shake It! Arena, Tiga, M.A.N.D.Y. and Layo and Buschwacka did their thing. The line up in this arena offered some unique electro dance remixes that could really get you shaking and delivered an ever so slightly more toned down tunes to rave to. Following the aforementioned quirky acts and bringing in some underground house tunes to finish off was European DJ Spencer Parker.

Another highlight was Ferry Cortsen’s special appearance – a phenomenal way to close the Group Therapy Arena, the finale offering the same calibre with which the arena opened. The long standing globally celebrated trance hero sent ripples throughout the entire arena with his powerful and intoxicating beats. The energy of the event had not yet died and crowds were on fantastic form to appreciate it. Bringing out some classics from his extensive discography, as well as offering up some new mixes, the set was edgy, energetic and enchanting. The set ended all too soon, but this was definitely a case of quality over quantity, and the calibre of the entire set couldn’t be doubted.

Reports tell me the quality of Sunday’s event was just as a high, and despite the direct competition with Creamfield’s, Clapham Common absolutely held its own for the entire weekend. Each year the line-up for SW4 seems to get more captivating and with the outstanding shows from such globally acclaimed legends this year, the calibre of the line-up is bound to peak yet again next year! Get yours early, because this is a fantastically priced, superbly located event that promises to deliver.
