One Love Festival announce new acts

One Love Festival announce KING JAMMY (live set), and STONE LOVE (featuring Rory) MEETS SAXON

King Jammy

Lloyd James (born 1947, Montego Bay, Jamaica[1]), better known as Prince Jammy or King Jammy, is a dub mixer and record producer. He began his musical career as a dub master at King Tubby's recording studio. His dubs were known for their clear sound and use of effects.

He became one of the most influential producers of dancehall music. His biggest hit was 1985's "Under Me Sleng Teng" by Wayne Smith, with an entirely-digital rhythm hook. Many credit this song as being the first "Digital rhythm" in reggae, leading to the modern dancehall era. Jammy's productions and sound system dominated reggae music for the remainder of the 1980s and into the 1990s.He continues to work as a producer, working with some of today's top Jamaican artists,

Stone Love

Based in Kingston, Winston "Wee Pow" Powell built the Stone Love sound system in 1973. It became one of Jamaica's most popular sound systems, known for its superior sound quality, and maintained this position into the 21st century. It has also played overseas in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Stone Love is renowned for its exclusive dubplates, which have included sides by many of the artists which it helped to establish, including Buju Banton and Wayne Wonder, and Johnny Osbourne and Shabba Ranks, Sanchez, and Beenie Man.

In the 1990s, rivalry with the Killamanjaro sound system led to a series of 'sound clashes' being staged.

Rory is Stone Love’s longest serving member selector Rory has a musical knowledge that is unmatched, and his versatility takes him around the world. Still after 30 years with Stone Love, he stays current with the latest riddims, the “big tunes,” and the hype that surrounds the dancehall. He no longer spins records—everything is now on CD (“It makes the flight easier,” he says)—but when it comes to music, there is a certifiable fire in his eyes.

Headliners:

U-Roy

U-Roy revolutionized the musical style of Reggae in 1969 through Toasting. "toasting" rapping over "versions" of popular songs remixed by King Tubby. Considered one of Jamaica's first Deejay stars, "U-Roy raised the art of toasting to new heights. He didn't just spit a few phrases here and there, he rode the riddim from the starting gate to the last furlong". The instigator Rap in the world!! U-Roy working with Duke Reid created a "version" of the Paragons' "Wear You to the Ball" which became the first ever "toast" record to make an impact back in 1969!!  The Jamaican reggae living legend is back on the worldwide stage with a brand new album: Pray Fi Di People after 10 years of absence in the studios! This album confirms again the Jamaican toaster’s talent with a roots sound which followed his time and which is claiming peace respect and music’s universality.

Black Uhuru

Black Uhuru ft Iqualah Rastafari with Duckie Simpson , Andrew Bees and Kay Stahr. Black Uhuru is a probably best known for their hits “Shine Eye Gal”, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” “Sinsemilla,” “Solidarity,” and “What Is Life?”. They were the first group to win a Grammy in the reggae category when it was introduced in 1985. They originally formed as ‘Black Sounds Uhuru’ (the Kiswahili word for freedom).

More for Beach Break Live

Beach Break Live returns to its spiritual home of Cornwall this year and organisers will be ensuring that festival goers get to see all the area has to offer via local talent showcases and working closely with the local community. Beach Break Live will be championing a myriad of local musicians, including the reggae-funkatron sounds of Cornwalls' Backbeat Soundsystem, Devon bass-head Hidden Riddim and Newton Abbot's hotly tipped Alice Jemima who has already earned herself a strong following with plays on BBC Radio 1 and 6Music. Organisers have also set out to find the next big thing this year in the Battle to the Beach competition, which will give one lucky act the chance to perform on the first ever Fistral Beach Main Stage. Three finalists have already been picked, with Cumbria indie-rockers Missarioty, Hip Hop, Soul, Folk band Scott James & The Revolution and funk hip-hoppers Sounds Of Harlowe, who will all receive VIP passes to the festival to thrash it out in front of an industry judging panel. For regional discounted tickets visit beachbreaklive.com/cornwall

With Newquay hosting this year's game-changing event, festival organisers are keen to give back to the surf-town and local community. Beach Break Live will be working with over 30 local businesses including the local council, Newquay BID and the town's clubs and pubs. 2013 will see an estimated 2 million pounds put back into the community via food, drink and accommodation which is all being provided by Newquay's businesses; even production staff have been sourced from Cornwall ensuring that not a penny is overlooked when giving back to the area.

To get an idea of the scale of this years bash, Beach Break Live predicts that over 30,000 pasties will be eaten on-site, over 25,000 ice creams will be consumed and surfers will take to the waves a whopping 25,000 times!

Jane Hawkey, Fistral Beach Bar said: "Beach Break Live will be great for the town as it's happening within established premises, rather than out of town in a field. It's not just bars and clubs that will benefit either as people will be wanting a pasty, fish and chips, or a cup of coffee. We should welcome the festival with open arms."

Local Beach Breakers will be happy to hear that they can get half price tickets for the festival. Organisers are offering a 50% discount on Silver Tickets for anyone living in the Cornwall area – that's just £20 for the entire 4 days! Those with Sailors Card, Salt Card or Berties Card are also eligble for the discounted offer.

Today boffins reveal that there are more amazing things to do at Beach Break Live 2013 than there are stars in the universe, in fact there is 1259, a number which isn't even comprehendible to most! Festival goers will be a wash with things to do at the carnival style surf paradise takeover, from Kebab Shop light shows to cliff top choirs and more! Click below for all the different performers, arts and fun to be had at Beach Break Live this year.

Boardmasters 2013 Stages Announced

Boardmasters has already announced a host of incredible acts for the August 2013 line up, but the fun doesn’t stop there with house, electro, dubstep and drum n bass on the cards at the recently revealed Unleashed and Marley Point stages.

Next up in this already immense billing is bona fide legend, American hip-hop musician and DJ Grandmaster Flash. One of the pioneers of hip-hop and the inventor of the cross fader and the Quick Mix Theory, his Boardmasters performance is guaranteed to be like no other.

Set within Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle early Bird and kids tickets start from as little as £20 and are available from www.summercampfestival.co.uk. Summercamp is a small festival with big talent up close, boasting top acts such as Mount Kimbie, Martha Wainwright and Ghostpoet, world-class art courtesy of Liverpool Biennial and mouth-watering flavours curated by Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer, plus much more. A village fete meets a bloc party, the event will feature both outdoor and indoor stages woven throughout and around the unique host warehouse venue, Camp and Furnace. Family-friendly and catering for every type of culture-vulture Summercamp is a new jewel in the North West summer calendar. Full line-up and further information are available on the website.

FOOD

Summercamp is offering a feast of proportions suitable for a bank holiday, curated by Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch co-host and restaurateur Simon Rimmer alongside host venue Camp and Furnace’s own head chef Steven Burgess. The pair have enlisted Michelin Starred chef and Great British Menu finalist Glynn Purnell, who will create two gourmet menus that will be served during Summercamp as part of a programme of bespoke banquets. Tickets to sittings of these menus will be very limited and are due to go on sale to Summercamp wristband holders in the next month. Can Cook, in partnership with Guerilla Eats, are assembling the best of the North West’s street food. 15 traders will be cooking up an array of international cuisine in the street food style, the UK’s hottest dining trend of the moment.

MUSIC

Ghostpoet is amongst the first artists confirmed for Summercamp’s music strand. His addition follows the release of ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’, the follow-up to a Mercury-nominated debut album, which was has received glowing reviews. The singer and producer, aka Obaro Ejimiwe, will bring charmingly downbeat electronic sounds to Summercamp’s stage this summer. Warp records’ electronic duo, Mount Kimbie will also take to the stage for a set of their much-loved post-dubstep sounds. In addition, Summercamp will welcome Canadian-American singer songwriter Martha Wainwright, sure to deliver a vocally standout set adorned with her legendary turn of phrase. Last but by no means least heading to Liverpool will be folk trio The Staves and the gritty sounds of US rock outfit, Merchandise.

ART

Liverpool Biennial lend their art expertise to Summercamp via The Experimental Music School, a mind-expanding, family programme for all ages taking the form of workshops, games, experiments and performances. The first artist to be revealed is the Dutch luthier and musician Yuri Landman. His workshop will involve the building of bespoke instruments, Landman’s previous creations have been used by Sonic Youth amongst many others meaning the audience are in truly expert hands. Following the workshop there will be a performance of a new work using these newly created instruments with critically acclaimed Liverpool trio Ex-Easter Island Head. Summercamp will soon be announcing the details of its film programme in collaboration with the award-winning media arts centre FACT.

FAMILY

From urban fox hunts to teddy bear’s picnics and cardboard tree houses, the family programme, delivered jointly by Summercamp, Liverpool Biennial and Just So Festival (the boutique festival of creativity aimed at children, young people and their families), will include food, film, music, making and dressing up running from 11am to 7pm.

Summercamp Director Miles Falkingham comments: “We are thrilled to be bringing an event encompassing such a breadth of art and entertainment to the Baltic Triangle. The area is home to Liverpool’s brightest creativity and the city’s best, up and coming, homegrown entrepreneurial talent. Summercamp is all about reflecting and celebrating that brilliance, with something for everyone we’re hoping to make the August bank holiday a weekend to remember”.
