Blink 182 to headline Reading & Leeds Festival 2014

With amazing memories of this summer still fresh, Reading & Leeds Festivals are excited to reveal that the first Main Stage headliner for the 2014 events will be the legendary Blink-182 in their only UK show! Joining them will be Jake Bugg,DisclosureMetronomyOf Mice & MenWilkinson and I Am Legion, the first amazing names set to appear across the Festivals for an unforgettable August Bank Holiday Weekend. The award-winning Reading & Leeds are the natural home for music lovers seeking the best acts, with the best atmosphere, surrounded by like-minded fans.

Festival boss Melvin Benn comments:

“2013 was a year of exciting additions for Reading & Leeds Festivals, making them bigger and better than ever. With extra stages and genres at both sites, there was a new diversity for all our fans to enjoy. However the core essence of the festival hasn’t changed and I think the line-up for next year will most certainly reflect that.  I know our fans will be delighted to welcome back our first headliners, Blink-182, with what promises to be an amazing show, as well as the brilliant Jake Bugg stepping up to the Main Stage. I can’t wait to reveal the rest of our incredible line-up, so watch this space!”

Blink 182

Firm fan favourites, Blink-182 first played Reading & Leeds in 1999 and blew the Main Stage sky-high when they headlined in 2010. Mark, Tom and Travis return in 2014 to headline the Main Stage with their incendiary punk-pop anthems and you can be sure they’ll perform a set laden with hits such as ‘All The Small Things’, ‘Dammit’ and much more. The band will also be giving fans a debut airing of the much-anticipated forthcoming seventh studio album which will be released next summer, the first new material since their self-released EP in 2012, which featured ‘Dogs Eating Dogs’ and ‘Disaster.’ A band that never fails to deliver, this is a booking that will bring a smile to every ardent Reading & Leeds fan and will be the band’s only UK shows of 2014.

Mark Hoppus adds:

"I’m stoked to play Reading & Leeds 2014.  It’s our fourth time playing the festivals, and we’re very honoured.  The new year will see us in the studio preparing new music, getting ready to rock the fine people of the UK.  Prepare for the fury."

Jake Bugg is one of the biggest success stories of Reading & Leeds Festivals in recent years. Even before he released his first album he’d already made his debut on the Festival Republic Stage in 2012. Returning to the Festivals in 2013, having travelled the world and received numerous accolades, Jake moved further up the bill, and with a Number One debut album under his belt, drew huge crowds to enjoy a hit laden set. Now following the release of his brilliant second album 'Shangri La', produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, we can announce that Jake will make another significant step up this year, taking his deserved place on the Main Stage.

Commenting on his appearance Jake said:

"Reading & Leeds have become a bit of a regular feature of my summers lately, so it's amazing to be asked back again. I was just kind of starting out the first time I played and it was a really important gig for me. Playing this year was fun and seemed like lots more people knew the songs; it was great hearing everyone singing the words back at me. I'm sure playing on the Main Stage will be a different experience again, so it's exciting. I've got my new album out so there's plenty of time for people to learn the words. It should be pretty special."

Often an artist like Jake Bugg comes along, who is so relevant and whose music has created such a buzz that fans demand their return to the Festivals; it is only right that Reading & Leeds provide the platform to see these artists excel. Another great example of this is Disclosure, the most successful British dance act in a generation, who turned the genre on its head in 2013 and opened the door for a host of underground dance acts to flood the mainstream.  Throughout the year Disclosure soared to the top of the charts with their debut album ‘Settle’ and sold out venues across the world. Their set at last year’s Reading & Leeds was one of the stand out moments of the Festivals and the brothers return in 2014 with an arsenal of hit singles and a fearsome live reputation, this will be a headline performance in a packed arena.

Disclosure Reading Leeds 2014

Quintessentially English, modern pop act, Metronomy are one of the country’s most compelling live acts and make a welcome return to Reading & Leeds. New track 'I'm Aquarius' was launched by Zane Lowe as his Hottest Record In The World, had 120,000 SoundCloud plays in a matter of hours and went straight to Number One on Hype Machine.  There is a new album ‘Love Letters’, recorded at the legendary Toe Rag studios, due in March 2014 and it promises to translate brilliantly to the live show.

Reading & Leeds introduced the exclusively rock element as an extension of the Lock Up Stage for the first time in 2013, providing a dedicated destination for the Festivals’ legions of rock and metal fans.  Featuring memorable sets from Shikari Sound System, Funeral For A Friend and more, this was an extremely popular addition. Now for 2014 Reading & Leeds welcome Southern Californian metalcore quintet, Of Mice & Men. The band release their eagerly anticipated third album ‘Restoring Force’ in January 2014 via Rise Records, the follow up to breakthrough album 'The Flood'. Having received nothing but adulation across the rock media, and instantly selling out London’s Koko, these achievements are testament to where this band are going, and where they’re going is Reading & Leeds! Their exclusive festival performances in England & Wales will be ones not to miss.

2013 saw a three day stage for all things electronic headlined by Magnetic Man, Sub Focus and Knife Party, proving there is a huge thirst for dance amongst the Reading & Leeds faithful. Just confirmed for 2014 is Mark ‘Wilkinson’, now a household name thanks to the massive hit, and dance chart Number One ‘Afterglow’, taken from his debut longplayer ‘Lazers Not Included’. He’s managed to retain all his credibility thanks to his masterful production talents and skills as a DJ. He won ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ at the National D&B Awards, an accolade that is sure to be followed by many more.

All-new in 2013, an additional urban and hip-hop stage saw Wiley, Devlin and Wretch 32 heading up a cast of many of the Urban elite. This bass heavy stage was a great hit with fans and is guaranteed to be better than ever in 2014.  Combining grime, hip-hop, dubstep, drum and bass, and some stuff that’s yet to be defined, it’s safe to say that I Am Legion are in a league of their own. Their explosive self-titled collaborative album is the side project of Dutch record producers Noisia and Foreign Beggars rappers Metropolis and Orifice Vulgatron. This fresh and distinctive collective will bring a turbo-charged atmosphere with them to Reading & Leeds.

Global Gathering 2013 Review

Global Gathering set at Long Marston airfield in Stratford Upon Avon, Home to biggest UK Electronic music festival. Global Gathering is currently in its 13th year and holds some of the biggest names in both the UK Charts as well as world wide legends; such as the great Paul Oakenfold, Steve Aoki, John Digweed, Sasha, Chase and Status the list is endless, it also perfectly sets up new comers to the electronic world looking to get their big break with such a diverse range of sounds and people it is definitely not one to miss. Global Gathering was ranked best Dance Festival 2012 this year was another chance to let loose and set your energy levels to full power! This years main stage headliners include.. Example, Plan B, Rudimental, Disclosure, Katy B, Afro Jack, NERO, Delilah, NetSky.

This wholesomely delicious festival starts on Friday and ends Sunday morning so unlike most typical festivals doesn’t run through the whole weekend. The sheer amount of incredible names packed into this event means you hardly stop! going from tent to tent seeing all your favorite artists provides you with an all you can eat buffet of the best the electronic scene has to offer.

Global Gathering 2013

This years event provided the 35,000 people with some great stages along with some great home made stages like the Global Freight Deport which is made into a corridor of freight containers with a cutout for the DJ in the far end. The Bunker which is just as it sounds is a concrete shelter providing you with acts such as Kidnap Kid from Sheffield and many more. This stage is designed for those up and coming artists looking to project themselves to a perfect target audience with a fruitful mix of House, DnB and Dance.

With such a big crowd turn out, organization of this event is of the upmost importance. This year went very smoothly there were however a few bug bears around marshal presence when arriving and leaving the festival which would have made a lot of peoples journeys much quicker and stress free along with large queues at the water points which lacked signage. Other than that the facilities were very good, lots of toilets and food wagons with vast ranges of different delicacies. Girls with chairs offering massages near the main arena was wonderful idea if your sleeping without an airbed and wake up feeling a little stiff. For those who bought VIP Camping tickets had the option to use showers and had a closer water point. This also meant you are closer to the festival itself so if your not a fan of walking long distances from campsite to arena this is a must for 2014.

Along with the Global Freight Deport and the Bunker one very important stage I haven’t yet mentioned is the anticipated GodsKitchen Fusion Cube which was one of this years most anticipated of all the 9 Main tents. Covered in LED panels and equipped with all the best party weapons, Multiple CO2 Jets, confetti canons, multi coloured Laser systems it was one of the best places to be! Especially watching the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten and more the atmosphere at stages of every performance was so intense it makes your hair stand on end, and shivers run down your spine. With the beat running hard and fast it will burn the sensation of what it is to take part at Global Gathering into your mind forever.

Playing peak daytime on Friday only suited to a main stage were Disclosure in full glory of the rare British summer, the young but infinitely talented Brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence smashed an incredible set with a very energetic and endless crowd. Playing their electro-sweet sounds of ‘White Noise’ in current charts this year hitting number 2 UK Singles chart but then in Uk Dance hit number 1.

Friday nights performance from Plan B set the main stage and festival atmosphere to

an ever electric finale, making the best of the beautiful remains of the sun setting slowly over the hill at Long Marston Airfield illuminating the heads of the thousands gathered to watch the last main stage performance, before making their way to one of the other tents for the after party. Plan B played their Number 1 in 2011 for the R&B Charts UK ‘She Said’

Rita Ora performing on the 1Xtra stage Friday night, with some interesting props that included men dressed in what looked like gas masks with make shift ghost buster outfits firing CO2 from their pulse guns showered the crowds with a cool wind. While the beautiful Rita Ora dressed in a Pink leather body suit with a triangle hood singing her chart smashing collision with DJ Fresh who produced ‘Hot Right Now’ which reached number 1 in 2012.

Rita Ora @ Global Gathering 2013

Example hit the stage in poring rain bringing with them an ever impressive light show playing some of the new and some of the original work. Ending beautifully on ‘Changed the way you kiss me’ bringing with the final line a burst of pyrotechnics from the main stage illuminating the pooling field of die hard soaked fans.

I cannot wait for 2014 Global Gathering rain or shine will always put a smile on your face and give you some amazing memories. There are always such a great number of amazing artists its one of the biggest and best highlights of the year. There are alot of festivals out there that could learn a great deal from Global Gathering!

GlobalGathering 2013 lineup announced

With live headline shows from artists including Plan B, Example, Disclosure and special guest Rita Ora, sets from the World’s top DJ’s including Jamie Jones, Nicky Romero and Annie Mac, a brand new arena from BBC Radio 1Xtra, the welcome return of the likes of Carl Cox and UKF as arena hosts, plus major new production and site development, the organisers have put together a weekend of incredible music and an amazing overall festival experience.

We’re building on 2011’s redefining event and 2012’s bumper weekend of unrivalled partying, sunshine and beats, and continuing to set standards for UK dance festivals in 2013.

Plan BNot only are we widening the diversity of music on offer to ensure every electronic music fan’s taste is catered for, we’re elevating the new generation of headliners bringing together some of the world’s biggest superstars with critically acclaimed underground talent for you to discover in 2013. With two additional arenas yet to be announced and further investment on production inspired by our global travels, we’ve ensured we’ll give our crowds the best overall experience at any UK festival this summer.

This year, the most explosive outdoor stage at any major UK festival returns with headline performances from two London-born artists who’ve risen up the ranks from their underground beginnings. The man with more strings to his bow than the London Symphony Orchestra – Plan B, will showcase both sides of his persona when he brings the soulfully bitter-sweet story of Strickland Banks to life alongside the brutally honest hip-hop journey of Ill Manors.

His fellow Londoner and Main Stage headliner Example jumps straight to the top of the Global food chain in his debut performance at the festival. The crowds should expect nothing short of the most euphoric house beats and uplifting electro vibes, along with bassier elements of dubstep and hip-hop in the live show from the man who brought us the massive number one singles Changed the Way You Kissed Me and Stay Awake. Recent hits from his newest album The Evolution of Man will be joined by the classics Kickstarts, Watch the Sun Come Up and Won’t Go Quietly – all tunes that have firmly cemented their place in the collective psyche of the dance music masses.

Example said: “I've always wanted to play GlobalGathering – my music mates have told me all about the mental crowds and atmosphere. To be making my Global debut headlining the main stage is huge for me. I'll be bringing extra fire and lasers don't you worry!”

ExampleTwo chart storming titans of UK electronic music will bring their live shows to the Main Stage for the first time this year. First up are the UK’s hottest new EDM duo, Disclosure, whose most recent single White Noise with AlunaGeorge made it to number 2 in the official charts and who were included in the Hot Ten For 2013 by BBC Radio 1Xtra. DnB quartet Rudimental, whose number 1 smasher Feel the Love was one of the tunes of summer 2012 and was followed up by the anthemic Not Giving In ft Alex Clare, also play the Main Stage having graduated from their appearance on the smaller outdoor stage in 2012.

The crowds can expect UK garage, dubstep and R&B sounds from South London songstress Katy B in her Main Stage debut, following on from her appearance on the FWD Rinse stage alongside Geeneus & Tippa in 2010.

Katy B said: "Global Gathering was the first festival I played when Katy On A Mission came out and I felt so welcome straight away. I love that it celebrates all things rave culture and I'm really excited to play this year."

Katie BThe undisputed Queen of EDM and mistress of the mash-ups, Annie Mac will take to the GlobalGathering Main Stage for the first time since 2007, following appearances over the years across other arenas. Bringing full production with her for the first time, Annie is set to deliver a mind-blowing experience to the crowds that are sure to congregate to see her show.

Joining them on the Main Stage across the two days will be a live performance from Belgian liquid funk wunderkind Netsky – whose Global debut last year was one of the most talked about performances of the weekend and has earned him a spot alongside the big guns on the Main Stage for the first time. Plus genre-busting and bass blending Major Look, electronic rockers Modestep (Live) and sultry dub and trip-hop inspired songstress Delilah (Live) will also grace the Main Stage.

Across the rest of the festival site, the first arena hosts to be announced read like a who’s who of the industry today.

Kicking off with some big news, Global are excited to announce that the UK’s home of urban music, BBC Radio 1Xtra, will host an arena at this year’s festival. Global stalwart MistaJam, who will be joined by the Eskiboy and Godfather of Grime, Wiley plus special guests Roll Deep, will commandeer the 1Xtra Arena. Wiley, whose smash hit Heatwave reached number one in the UK last summer, and more recently, has found success with Can You Hear Me (Ayayaya) charting at number three in the UK. Pioneer of the UK underground scene, leader of Roll Deep and original member of Boy Better Know, he will certainly be causing a heatwave when he takes to the mic. Chart-topping Rita Ora, whose debut album Ora reached number one in the UK, spawning three number one singles, making her the artist with the most number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart in 2012, will be making a special guest appearance. In addition to this comes support in the form of Dot Rotten, K Koke (live), Futurebound and Matrix and Devolution as well as a very special headline artist yet to be announced!

Jason Carter, Event Director, BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra said: “It's great to return to GlobalGathering with 1Xtra. We look forward to being there and are excited to broadcast the fantastic sets to a wider audience.”

GlobalGathering are also very pleased to reveal that the legendary Carl Cox & Friends Arena will make an epic return to Long Marston Airfield in 2013. After taking a break in 2012, we couldn’t be more excited that Carl Cox & Friends will be back, bringing together a line-up spanning many genres of electronic music. The DJ, the producer, the man, the legend will be bringing the sounds of his classic night from the White Isle with sets from Chris Liebing, Cassy, Nina Kraviz, John Digweed and Circus Recordings boss Yousef, plus many more that are sure to create a summer Ibiza vibe. Welcome back Carl!

Carl Cox said: “GlobalGathering is one of the best dance music festivals around – I can’t wait to bring my arena back to those mental crowds again. It’s good to be back!”

Global are very excited to welcome Hot Creations head honcho Jamie Jones who will be hosting his very own arena for the first time – the Paradise Arena. Jamie has long been an Ibiza staple who launched his hugely popular Paradise resident night at DC10 in Ibiza last year and is set to launch Paradise Miami later this month. Offering up a Balearic atmosphere with the deeper sound of house, tech house, techno and minimal tech, the arena will showcase some of the best underground acts, with Art Department, Subb Ann and Infinity Ink on the bill alongside Damien Lazarus, and support from Richy Ahmed and Bicep.

The UKF Bass Culture Arena returns for a second year with DJ Fresh headlining the area with his incredible Fresh Live show. Pushing the boundaries of drum and bass and dubstep, Fresh Live combines the technique and hysteria of his DJ sets with the energy of a live instrumental performance. EDM prodigy and wonder kid Zedd will be making a special guest appearance. Rolling Stone named Zedd an ‘Artist to Watch’ for 2012, and more recently, MTV deemed him an ‘Artist to Watch’ for 2013. UK dubstep originator Benga will play alongside Flux Pavilion, plus Andy C & MC GQ and DnB pioneer and Digital Soundboy label owner Shy FX.

In its third year as a GlobalGathering arena host, event brand Metropolis will be introducing some of the hottest talent from the underground bass scene. Sub Focus will be bringing his live show to headline the arena and will deliver his earth shaking hybrid mix of drum and bass and dubstep. Joining Sub Focus will be reggae and dancehall master David 'Ram Jam' Rodigan (MBE) who has recently been added to BBC Radio 1Xtra’s weekly roster. Playing alongside them will be the mighty ninja Jaguar Skills as well as Friction (Ft. Scrufizzer, P Money & Arlissa), DJ Hype and MC IC3, with support from Dismantle & Breakage, B Traits, Monsta, and Killsonik, bringing the finest sounds of UK bass.

The Global Arena will this year showcase headliner and original party starter Steve Aoki, armed with his champagne, inflatable dinghy and birthday cake! As well as that, DJ Mag Top 100 #6 Dutch electro house superstar Hardwell and young French sensation Madeon. Porter Robinson, W&W, Arty, Mat Zo and GlobalGathering resident Paul Thomas hold up the rest of the bill, with a special guest performance from Garuda top dog Gareth Emery.

Steve Aoki

Returning for a third year to host an arena are Hospitality, the worldwide event promoters of top UK drum and bass imprint Hospital Records. After incredibly successful years at GlobalGathering in 2011 and 2012, they return with the best DnB line up anywhere in the UK this summer with another performance from Netsky (DJ set), plus High Contrast, Danny Byrd and Camo and Krooked, with a support from an exclusive back to back set from LTJ Bukem and Fabio alongside London Elektricity.

This year Global welcomes a brand new addition to the site – the Chibuku Arena. Headlining this arena are the inventors of mash-up genre, brothers David and Stephen Dewael, better known as – 2manydjs. Pushing the boundaries of house and techno the brothers are sure to get the party started. Next up is hotly tipped solo and highly colorful producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED), who will be setting the crowd alight with his electro beats. Founding father of dubstep Skream will be making a special guest appearance. The Croydon DJ/producer is constantly refreshing his sound, from laying down twisted house and techno, to disco sets. They will see support from Bristol based DJ/producer and firm festival favourite Redlight (Live) who will be performing a brand new live show! Joining them will be remix master Erol Alkan and electro producer Fake Blood, plus many more.

Godskitchen, one of the biggest dance brands on the planet, will once again be bringing the superstars of trance back to Global. No 7 on DJ Mag’s 2012 Top 100, Dash Berlin will be joined by Markus Schulz – recently voted the USA’s Best DJ, Ferry Corsten, ATB, and trance legend Paul Oakenfold, pioneer of importing the Balearic scene to Britain, who will be making a special guest appearance. Another special guest, infamous Israeli psy-trance duo Infected Mushroom will be presenting their live, mind blowing, visual show ‘Fungusamongus’. Twice ranked amongst the world’s ‘10 Best DJ’s’ on the notorious DJ Mag Top 100 Poll their sound draws from a plethora of styles – metal, electronica, dubstep, psytrance and everything in between. John O’Callaghan, Simon Patterson and Cosmic Gate all make a welcome return, plus many more, with cutting edge production and an explosive atmosphere that is sure to whip fans into an uncontrollable frenzy.

Dutch house producer Nicky Romero, fresh off the back of his number one UK hit single with Avicii – I Could be the One, is set to headline the return of the House Arena. He is joined by Dutch dance duo Bingo Players, architects of another UK number one single Get Up (Rattle), in collaboration with Far East Movement. Radio 1’s very own Dance Anthems supremo Danny Howard and Diffused Music’s Michael Woods bring up the rest of the bill with a special guest performance from Dutch trance and progressive house DJ Sander van Doorn.

The Digital Arena brings the sounds of the deep house and tech scene with a performance from Mixmag’s DJ of 2012 Solomun, alongside breakthrough artist Scuba playing a live set. The mighty Sasha, following the drop of his new mix album ‘INVOLV3R’, will make a special guest appearance, alongside Seth Troxler, Heidi and Maceo Plex, plus many more.

Gary Turner, Managing Director of GlobalGathering Group UK, said: “Following last year’s amazing and award winning festival will be no mean feat – but we’ve upped our game even further, building on the incredible feedback from 2012 and investing heavily in some of the world’s freshest and most exciting artists and the latest production from the international festival market.
