2000Trees announce Frightened Rabbit, Blood Red Shoes and more

Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit are back by popular demand to headline 2000trees Festival, describing it as “one of the best small festivals in Britain.” The band took centre stage at the award-winning Gloucestershire event in 2011 and since then have gone on to wider critically-acclaimed success.

Blood Red Shoes are also set to perform, along with America’s Trash Talk, EMPIRE, Gorgeous George, Sam ‘Get Cape’ Duckworth (solo), Little Matador, Delta Sleep, The St. Pierre Snake Invasion, Thrill Collins, Eugene Quell, The Common Tongues, I, the Lion and Wild Cat Strike.

Scott Hutchison, lead singer of Frightened Rabbit, said: “We are so excited to be returning to 2000trees this year. It was such a memorable show for us last time, the crowd was in fine voice and it was clear that everyone was there for the music. We hope for more of the same this summer – it truly is one of the best small festivals in Britain.”

Also set to play at Upcote Farm this July are Band of Skulls, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Public Service Broadcasting, The Bronx, Jamie Lenman, The Blackout, Wolf Alice, Kids In Glass Houses, Tall Ships, Cerebral Ballzy, and many many more.

2000trees organiser Andy Rea said Frightened Rabbit are a hugely popular choice and tickets are selling fast.

“When we ask fans which acts they love, a great many names are suggested, which shows they know and love new and underground music as much as we do – and one of the most popular requests is always for Frightened Rabbit to return to 2000trees, so we’re delighted to make that happen,” he said.

“The last time they performed the crowd reaction was immense and since then they have gone on to bigger things, so to have them back at 2000trees is a bit of a coup and we can’t wait to see them perform live at Upcote Farm.”

Digweed, Tong & Madeon + more announced for SW4 lineup

We are excited here at Summer Festival Guide HQ to bring you the phase 2 lineup for this years SW4 which adds the likes of Pete Tong, John Digweed, Madeon and more to its already massive lineup.

As one of the hottest electronic dance music producers to emerge in recent years, Madeon brings his live show to SW4 for the first time on Sunday 24th August. Aged just 19, Madeon has already had huge success with the singles 'Icarus', 'Finale' and 'The City', all pioneered by Radio 1's Pete TongAnnie Mac and Zane Lowe before becoming firm favourites on thestation's playlist. His astonishing talent has also been showcased at many of the world’s biggest festivals, cementing his position amongst electronic music’s biggest players.

John Digweed returns to South West Four this summer for the tenth consecutive year and his exclusive London festival performanceJohn’s philosophy embodies South West Four, whilst his ingenuity, dedication and all round ability to destroy dancefloors is why he is always welcomed him back to Clapham Common with open arms. Having headlined in 2009and hosted Bedrock arenas at SW4 in 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013, John takes to our mammoth 7,000 capacity indoor stage on Sunday 24th August, ably joined by many of the leading names in underground house and techno.

Pete Tong: the world’s undisputed ambassador for electronic music. It’s quite a title, but one that is whole heartily deserved. Having been broadcasting on BBC Radio 1 since 1991, he has become widely acclaimed across the world as the tastemaker for dance music. Pete has an astounding flair to break new talent; he’s helped kick start the careers of hundreds of artists, giving them the infamous ‘Pete Tong Push’. Now in 2014, with a global touring schedule to make your eyes water, not to mention single, remix and compilation releases abound, Pete has never been more important. A real favourite at the festival, we welcome him back to South West Four’s main stage for another essential performance!

Representing one of the most mouth-watering back-to-back sessions of 2014South West Four is delighted to exclusively present Bicep going head to head with Simian Mobile Disco. Playing SW4 for the first time, Bicep are the new kids on the block. Through their amalgamation of house, funk, disco and techno, the duo have formed a completely unique yetobscure approach and understanding of electronic music. Evident through their energetic and unpredictable soundtracksself-curated label and club night ‘Feel My Bicep’, a monthly show on Rinse FM plus further releases on AUS Music, Love Fever and KMS Records, the Bicep boys have established themselves as one of house music’s most sought-after acts. They will team up with the unmistakeable duo of James Ford and Jas Shaw aka Simian Mobile Disco to form one of the tastiest DJ battles SW4 has ever seen. With their collaboration‘Sacrifice’ marking a pivotal point in 2013Bicep and Simian Mobile Disco arrive for this mouth-watering battle of the beats as two of dance music’s most intriguing forces. We guarantee that this exclusive pairing will leave you begging for more.

Since the release of his artistically brilliant album ‘1977’ on Kompakt last June, the electronic world has been in admiration of one of its fastest rising stars, Kölsch. Following superb recent performances at the Bugged Out Weekender and Snowbombing, plus his inaugural headline UK tour, the Dane has set himself up to become one of 2014’s most exciting artists. Fittingly described as romantic techno, Kölsch’s melodic anthems have gained a vast amount of support from the world’s leading talent. Having kicked off the year in fine form by launching BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix Future Stars series, it’s clear that 2014 is the year of Kölsch.

Another artist that will join us at South West Four for the first time in 2014 is Shadow Child. Fully revelling in the limelight thanks to his recent onslaught of bass-heavy house joints that have raised the roof the world over, his meteoric rise to prominence stems from his 2012 debut in ‘String Thing’ through DirtyBird records. He has subsequently gone onto release tracks on Apollo Music and Moda Black and in the process has earned mass support from label owners as well as the likes of Eats Everything, Annie Mac and Pete Tong. In 2014Shadow Child released his debut album ‘Collected’, which fully showcases the breadth of his talent including hit originals to stunning remixes of the likes of London Grammar andAluna George. We cannot wait to see Shadow Child set SW4 alight with his stunning blend of pounding house beats.

As two of drum and bass’ greatest exportsSW4 Sunday will see the unmistakeable Marcus Intalex go head-to-head with Special Request for the very first time. Representing thesoulful side of drum and bass sounds, Marcus has honed his craft with residencies at both Fabric London and Soul:ution Manchester as well as heading up his Soul:R label. Having earned his reputation as drum and bass’ leading tastemaker, this unmissable battle promises to shake Clapham Common to its core. Inspired by the unruly conventions of UK pirate radio stationsSpecial Request captures the raw energy and diversity of the illegal airwaves that have been an immeasurable influence as his alter-ego Paul Woolford. After storming through the scene in 2013 with a mix of vinyl-only and limited edition releases including ‘Lolita’ and ‘Alone’, this uncompromising contest of heavy-hitting 160 BPM beats, promises to be remembered for years to come.

As one of the UK club music's most restless innovatorsBoddika makes his SW4 debut on Sunday 24th August. Whether it’s his terrific solo productions, incredible collaborationswith Joy Orbsion and Pearson Sound, as one half of the highly respected Instra:mental, or one third of Autonomic, Boddika’s hardcore techno workouts are a joy to behold. With notable releases such as ‘Soul What’, ‘Acid Jackson’ and ‘Steam’, the past few years have been non-stop for the Nonplus label head and we're very excited to be welcoming him toClapham Common.

Hailing from MiamiDanny Daze has championed his sound in recent years after uniquely fusing together elements of Detroit techno with Italian disco to make him one of the world’s most interesting underground talents. Making his long-awaited SW4 debut in 2014Danny has seen his profile grow ten-fold over the past twelve months by consistently delivering on the finest imprints of today including SavedHot CreationsDirtybirdFuture Classic and long-term friend Maceo Plex’s Ellum. With non-stop tours across the world, Danny’s technical prowess allows him to take musical risks that make him one of the most exciting acts to make the trip to South London on Sunday 24th August.

Bestival Red Bull Music Academy lineup announced

Taking its place among more than 20 stages in 10 fields of wonderment with mega soundsystems, non-stop parties and 24-hour escapism, Bestival are delighted to announce that Red Bull Music Academy will be returning to Robin Hill once again in 2014 with a mind-blowing new stage featuring a stunning altar dedicated to dance and a winged deity.

A takeover by Glaswegian electronic music Mafiosi Numbers, who return to Bestival for the fourth time, kicks things off on Thursday, with Jackmaster & Oneman Present Can U Danceshowcasing their four-deck manoeuvres, live sets from Redhino, and Kool Clap and Spencergoing back to back with Optimo.

Heavy looking forward to taking that to the next level with our 4 deck Can U Dance set and also welcoming two of our favourite DJs on the planet!”

Friday sees Harvey’s Discotheque taking charge, channelling the same wide-grinned disco as his sell-out UK comeback gig with RBMA in 2012. Techno DJ du jour Daniel Avery joins in, alongside stalwarts of the sunrise anthem Pachanga Boys, while Eric Duncan brings the party-throwing antics of his NYC outfit Rub N Tug to the fray, and the ever-charismatic Berlinite Hugo Capablanca goes maximal. The Red Bull Music Academy alumni corner is repped by Jolly Mare and Andre Laos, both from the 2013 edition in New York.

Speaking about his Red Bull Music Academy appearance at Bestival, Harvey said: “Having been a regular guest DJ at Rob’s original Sunday Best Party almost 20 years ago, it's a real treat to come full circle and curate my own Discotheque at Josie and Robby's Bestival, and what a theme! “We've put together a really great line-up of DJ's, some you will have heard and others that have blown my socks off when I've seen them DJ on my travels. It's an honour to play with them all for you all. I can't bloomin' wait”.

Saturday’s line-up comes packing some urban heat, headed up by Boy Better Know’s JME,Skepta, and ex-Kiss FM DJ Logan Sama. They’re joined by garage poster boy Preditah with regular collaborator C4, Rinse co-founder and “Godfather of Grime” Slimzee with Riko Dan, and dubstep pioneer and early FWD fave Plastician. Saturday’s special guest comes in the form of garage royalty DJ EZ, while RBMA alumni Elijah and Skilliam go b2b for an alumni hat-trick.

Bringing the weekend to a close, Sunday sees Diplo & friends take the headline slot, with appearances through the night from seasoned beatmaker Kaytranada, enigmatic remix artisteTrippy Turtle, dubstep originator Artwork and sublime selector Martelo. Rounding up Sunday’s roster, 2013 RBMA alumni DJ Slow and Sinjin Hawke weigh in.

Supplementing the music, the stage will be brought to life along a ‘dance temple’ design theme, complete with totem poles and resplendent tribal miscellanea inside and out – a fitting testament to the pantheon of talent on offer. Cranking out sermons of hip-swaying hedonism, the roster brings together acts from across the spectrum, giving Academy alumni the chance to share the bill with legends for a party to end all parties, at our Desert Island Disco.

Exit Festival Dance Arena Back to Back Grand Finale announced

One of the greatest duos in the history of dance and electronic music and winners of the highly coveted Grammy award, DEEP DISH, are reunited once more after six years apart, and one of their must-see gigs is happening at the Dance Arena! They last played EXIT together in 2008 and now Sharam and Dubfire grace us with their presence again. The Iranian-American duo won over the house scene from the moment they met in the ‘90s. They’ve been awarded the music industry’s hallowed Grammy for their remix of Dido’s “Thank You” and all their past work lead to this quote from the Rolling Stones: “There’s probably no greater DJ duo than Deep Dish!” We couldn’t agree more!

BETTER LOST THAN STUPID or more commonly known as Squillace-Buttrich-Tanzmann are the freshest heavy-weight collective that sprouted up from the lines of house and techno DJs and they’ve been playing as this unique back2back2back collective since 2010. As solo performers, these musicians had their hands play on turntables of the world’s top clubs and festivals, while their gigs as Better Lost Than Stupid are almost religiously exclusive and redefine the very definition of a DJ set, especially the way they flirt with “live” gigs supported by Buttrich’s rich experience with equipment for live electronic gigs and Squillace’s and Tanzmann’s studio wisdom.

Newcomers JAYMO & ANDY GEORGE have not only set into motion one of the most attractive British music labels, Moda, but have also thrown parties worldwide, had live gigs on BBC Radio 1, launched the Moda Black label, produced a cover CD for Mixmag, and held two of the most important residencies in the world: We Love… Space in Ibiza and Fabric in London. Publishing music by renowned artists like Maxxi Soundsystem and Eats Everything, Jaymo and Andy George achieved acclaim by discovering upcoming young talent like Hot Since 82, Mia Dora and Disclosure. They now are to make their debut on the Dance Arena Stage in a special Jaymo vs Andy George set.

Equally, after bonding over hamburgers at the end of 2011, WAZE & ODYSSEY went from an anonymous Soundcloud profile to one of the most exciting electro performers in 12 months. During that turbulent time they released plenty of critically acclaimed singles for Wolf Music, Disco Bloodbath and Throne of Blood; They remixed artists like Disclosure and T.E.E.D.; had gigs on all continents and became regulars in shows by Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Skream & Benga, with further support coming from numerous club DJs – from Ralph Lawson and Starslinger to Duke Dumont and Horse Meat Disco. Their sound resonates with what is popular all over the continent and having one of the most popular Ibiza smashes of last summer, the Dance Arena is pleased to welcome Waze vs Odyssey to kick off Sunday night proceedings.

The EXIT MAINSTAGE will also have electronic music fans dancing with delight as headliners Rudimental and Skrillex take to the stage. EXIT will once again be the 'Fortress of Bass' with a second year partnership with the world renowned bass music champions UKF who will once again be taking full responsibility for the Main Stage X Bass program from 1am right the way through to EXIT’s iconic fortress sunrise. Promising to blow up the EXIT backline are none other than Adventure Club, Andy C, Dimension, Dub FX, Fred V & Grafix feat MC Dynamite, Gorgon City, Jaguar Skills, Koven LIve, My Nu Leng, Pretty Lights live visuals show, Shadow Child, Sub Focus, TC and many more!

Hosting the Saturday is MAT REED. Born and Bred in Sunderland, the cheekily salacious Mackem charmer hosts a comedic cast that will ensure that most contagious of human functions fills the big blue tent during the comedy hours.

Tickling ribs on the Saturday are enemy of the righteous and champion of profanity FIN TAYLORALFIE BROWN, purveyor of socio-political alternative comedy (or SPAC as he likes to call it), the lighting-quick wit of UK improve troupe NOISE NEXT DOORJOHN HASTINGS, whose jokes revolve around his world travels, love of metal and what it’s like to look racist but not actually be racist, ANDREW O NEIL – the world’s favourite vegan-transvestite-occultist-metalhead (but-not-goth) comedian and JOHN ROBERTSON – showman, writer, singer, dancer, YouTube manipulator and grinning anarchist extraordinaire.

Splitting sides on the Sunday and hosted by SONISPHERE veteran ANDREW O NEIL are Chortle Best Newcomer nominee MATT REES, the surreal and absurd comedy of PAT CAHILL, “Well produced bullshit” specialist (his words, not ours) MAT EWINS, the one man rock/pop extravaganza that is ROB DEERING and “heavily tattooed idiot” (again, his words, not ours) JIM SMALLMAN

WRESTLING

Wrestlers To Choke Hold Knebworth

In honour of our Wrestling Fancy Dress Theme, we've invited some of the cream of British wrestling to perform at Sonisphere with the guys from professional wrestling outfit, Progress Wrestling, set to take to the ring at Knebworth. Prepare for a choke-slam as champions like Jimmy HavocRhia O’Reilly, Rampage Brown and Tommy End, who is the current WXW champion, descend on Knebworth.

Think Powerslams, think Facebusters, think Piledrivers, think Flying Clotheslines, think about trying to catch Boston Crabs. So dust off your lycra, don a mask (or at least pay extra attention to your hair), create some witty signs, learn some wrestling chants and get ready to watch some men in tighter pants than some of those appearing on the Main Stage.

See you in the ring!!

SILENT DISCO

Sshh…Silent Disco Returns To Sonisphere

We are extremely pleased to announce the return of Silent Arena’s hugely popular Silent Disco to Sonisphere this summer as part of the late-night entertainment. The Silent Disco will run on every night of the festival, including the Thursday, and will feature the Silent Arena resident DJs.
It'll also be a Jäger-fuelled affair, with Jägermeister hosting the Silent Disco in the Jägermeister tent, which includes its own bar. So grab a pair of cans, knock back a pint or (or some ice-cold Jäger) and sing to your heart's content with the added luxury of not being able to hear anyone else singing – or yourself for that matter.
