Play Fest is one of the new kids on the block in the UK festival scene. Coming back with a vengeance as a ‘terrible two’ on a mission, Play Fest has already been turning heads and gaining industry attention. Shortlisted for Best New Festival at the UK festival awards 2011, this is one little ‘un to keep any eye on and with the launch of their brand spanking new websitewww.playfest.co.uk, keep on top of all the upcoming announcements and news with line up additions to be revealed soon!
Taking place from Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd June, this baby gem co-insides with the diamond Jubilee and is all set to be the perfect setting for an alternative garden party this early summer bank holiday! Situated in the heart of Norfolk, Play Fest provides a mix of top acts, local artists, DJs & activities. With an organic ethos and close working relationship with local bands as well as the big-name headliners, Play Fest join forces with a select number of organisations to promote unsigned bands and aim to fill 30% of the slots with local talent over big names. Previous artists on the bill in 2011 included The Futureheads, Frank Turner, Darwin Dees and The King Blues, so with the line-up for 2012 to be released in the next couple of weeks, the excitement at Play Fest HQ is mounting to near combustion level!

Camping The campsite opens at 4pm on Friday 1st June 2012, and must be vacated by 2pm Monday 4th June 2012. The campsite provides toilets and the option to use showers.
Highlights include a great festival line-up, a laser display on the lake, street entertainers, arts and crafts workshops and of course the rinky dinks.
The bands selected are folky but also have the ability to really get people up dancing. The festival has been built on an open approach with a sense that everyone counts. Too many festivals these days have become generic and sterile. There aren’t many festivals where the organisers publish their mobile telephone numbers on the website and are available for all to call whenever…. Hence the organisers never want to grow their festival beyond 5000 people!!
The festival takes place on 18th and 19th May 2012 and more information can be found at www.lakefest.co.uk

Performing his unique brand of musical comedy, Tim will be wowing audiences on Thursday 12th July with his back catalogue of hilarious, scathing and often unsettlingly lovely songs.
Guaranteed to have audiences in stiches, Tim is well-known for his iconic dance moves, wildly teased hair, and enormous sense of occasion. A veteran comedian, he’s made appearances on TV shows such as the BBC’s Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Genius and Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, as well as BBC Radio 2’s comedy sitcom Strings and BBC Radio 4’s The Infinite Monkey Cage. Tim’s performed sell-out shows across the UK and recently toured with the 55-piece Heritage Orchestra performing his biggest live show ever, culminating at two sold-out nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Julia Safe, Co-Director of Larmer Tree Festival said: “We’re very excited to be welcoming Tim Minchin and his grand piano to the festival – he’s the biggest comedy headliner we’ve ever had! To celebrate this, and make sure the whole audience see him, Tim will be our first comedian to grace the Main Stage. This year’s festival is shaping up to be the best yet and we can’t wait for July.”
The stunning Victorian Larmer Tree Gardens also play host to an impressive and eclectic mix of music. Joining confirmed headlinersJools Holland (Wednesday 11th July) and Levellers (Friday 13th July), just booked music acts include Edward II, Vintage Trouble, Akala, The Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company, Shlomo, Otis Gibbs, Jason Ringenberg, Urban Folk Quartet, The Wave Pictures, Crowns, Rachel Sermanni, Keston Cobblers Club and Still Moving DJs. A firm favourite among regular Larmers, the legendary DJ Derek will also be back, ready to spin more reggae classics.
With an exciting programme of music, comedy and a huge timetable of over 150 free workshops, shows and activities, there really is something for everyone at this family-focused festival. Tickets include all entertainment, free parking and camping for tents, caravans and campervans, and under 5s go free so there are no additional costs.
A three day ticket costs £140 per adult but festival-goers can enjoy a four or five day weekend for only an extra £25 or £50 respectively.

The team behind the festival book bands they love, work with like-minded people, keep it chilled, don’t squeeze a thousand tents into a field the size of a postage stamp and don’t charge a fortune. Good old-fashioned hospitality and great bands. In the first of several announcements revealing plans for the bigger and bolder Deer Shed Festival 3, the team are thrilled to confirm the following acts for this July.
Villagers will headline the Main Stage on Saturday 21st July. The moniker for singer-songwriter Conor J. O’Brien and his cohorts, 2010 saw Villagers’ debut album released on Domino Records – a Mercury Prize nomination and Ivor Novello awards quickly followed. To say that their second album (due for a late summer release) is hotly anticipated is a massive understatement. Their first UK festival appearance of 2012, the Deer Shed Festival audience are in for a captivating performance of O’Brien’s beautifully crafted songs.
Cherry Ghost will close the festival on Sunday 22nd July but this is a Main Stage headline set with a difference – the band will take to the stage at 2.45pm. Sunday is Deer Shed Festival’s long goodbye – brunch, newspapers, crafts market and, for the first time, performances on the Main Stage before the arena closes late afternoon. A fitting finale to a weekend of fine music and good times, festival-goers will head home with Cherry Ghost’s acoustic performance and Simon Aldred’s glorious voice ringing in their ears.
Beth Jeans Houghton & The Hooves of Destiny’s debut album, ‘Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose’, was released this week and has been receiving plaudits left, right and centre. Deservedly so, Houghton has an imagination the size of the planet, her music is an inventive delight blending folk with psychedelia and glam rock and her performances brim with style and drama. The Main Stage will play home to the band on Saturday.
Dutch Uncles combine incredible musicianship, sharp hooks and insanely danceable time signatures into perfectly formed music that can only be described as ‘prog-pop’. Fronted by the intensely watchable, and very energetic, Duncan Wallis, this Manchester band will headline the In The Dock Stage on Friday night.
Treetop Flyers call their music “pure country soul”. A blend of folk, rock, country and soul, this five-piece, sepia-tinged band will play the Deer Shed Festival Main Stage on Saturday afternoon. Infused with the spirit of The Band, Neil Young and Crosby, Stills & Nash, the band will provide a perfect 1970’s feel soundtrack to a summer’s afternoon.
The first act to be announced for the brand new Lake Stage is Tupelo who will headline Friday night. Their music takes the fiddle-led acoustic approach of the Deep South and combines it with gutsy Irish folk. Joining them on the new stage will be Rachel Sermanniwho performs on Saturday; this Scottish singer-songwriter signed to the Communion collective has an incredibly compelling voice and a unique talent for earthy folk melodies and dextrous fingerpicking.
We Were Evergreen, an alternative indie-electro-pop band from France play the Main Stage on Sunday. Possessing a wide-eyed, child-like joie de vivre, this Gallic trio’s mellow yet uplifting choruses will provide a suitably lovely theme tune to the Deer Shed Festival long goodbye on the last day of the weekend.
Building on the success of two well received and sold-out festivals since it debuted in 2010 (including being shortlisted for the Best Family-Festival at the UK Festival Awards 2011), Deer Shed Festival is stretching its wings a little this year with a bigger line-up that includes Main Stage and In The Dock Stage performances on all three days and a brand new Lake Stage.
Further plans for this year will be unveiled soon – more acts including the Friday night headliner, details of the new site layout which has increased by a third, a cinema tent, especially commissioned theatre productions, expanded arts and activities programme and, of course, the all-important theme. Last year’s Sky at Night theme saw Professor Brian Cox levels of stargazing before it all got so trendy.
More additions to the line up will be released on Tuesday, February 14. The ninth Flow Festival will be organised in Helsinki's Suvilahti on 8–12 August 2012.
Leslie Feist (born 1976) rose to the forefront of modern pop music with her 2007 album "The Reminder". Both critics and fans lauded what was to become the talented artist's breakthrough record thanks to Feist's remarkable charisma, her sheer talent as a singer and songwriter, and the hit-filled album's depth as a musical achievement. Feist's 2011 LP "Metals" took things a step further, introducing a more organic sonic palette with added warmth, offering the perfect backdrop for one of the most talented vocalists in modern music.
On Sunday 12 August 2012, Feist will make her long overdue Finnish debut at Flow Festival.

Crowning the festival’s main stage on Saturday and Sunday respectively, these two artists lead the first line-up announcement for Parklife’s third annual party. The finest pop, indie, electronic and crossover sounds are represented throughout the bill, as much-loved familiar names join many fresh faces tipped for the top in 2012’s ‘Ones to Watch’ lists. Everything is poised for a fantastic year that could very well be Parklife’s third and ‘hat trick’ sell out.
Headliners across the festival’s other arenas include dubstep chart toppers Nero, Parisian duo Justice – Live, Mixmag’s ‘Breakthrough DJ of The Year 2011’ Maya Jane-Coles and raucous electronic Canadians Crystal Castles. The Parklife Weekender also welcomes a number of clubland’s most respected labels with Crosstown Rebels and Hospital Records sending a number of their roster to Platt Fields Park. Also pitching up for the weekend are some of the UK’s hottest promoters with Metropolis and Chibuku invited to host their own arenas.
Elsewhere the festival’s performers come from the cream of the recent music crop. The newest additions to major radio playlists, magazine cool lists and blogger best of lists, namely Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Azealia Banks, Django Django and Ghost Poet are all part of Parklife’s stand out line-up for this year.
Over 100 artists perform across two days on 7 arenas for only £64.50 making The Parklife Weekender what could be the best value festival on offer this year*.
2012 may only Parklife’s third year but already the festival is a huge draw, tickets to both 2010 and 2011’s events sold out at least eight weeks in advance. To avoid disappointment promoters strongly advise fans to act fast and ensure their place at the start to Manchester’s summer.

The first six to be announced are; MOBO award winner Alborosie, ska-punk supremo’s Reel Big Fish, legendary Jamaican Godfathers of ska The Skatalites, Jamaica’s number one female reggae artist Tanya Stephens, the indo-dub basslines of Asian Dub Foundation and the gypsy-punk global fusions of Balkan Beat Box. With a bounty of other heavy hitting, bass bashing, rock-n-romping acts firmly secured on the bill for Boomtown 2012, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what will be the maddest fair in the land!
With Alborosie topping the first of Boomtown’s line-up announcements, this is a sign of very good things to come! Knocking Damian Marley and Nas out of the running for the Best Reggae Act at the 2011 MOBO awards, Alborosie continues to go from strength to strength. First hitting the music scene back in the early 90’s with his band The Reggae National Tickets, this Sicilian born Rastafarian has won over critics and fans alike throughout his career, both as a band and later as a solo artist. His ascent to fame came with his debut album Soul Pirate which hosted some of his top hits including the mighty ‘Kingston Town’ and ‘Kingdom of Zion’. Revellers will need to strap-in as Alborosie’s set will be amplified by Boomtown’s legendary soundsystem where the bass will be ballistic and the lyrics lethal!
With their big hitting tunes ‘Sell Out’ and ‘I want your girlfriend to be my girlfriend’;Reel Big Fish were the heavy weights of the Ska-punk revival in the mid to late 90’s. Known for their hyperkinetic stage shows, mischievous humour and reworking of new-wave classics, Reel Big Fish won over underground and mainstream audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond. Boomtown is the perfect pond for Reel Big Fish, and the town centre has more than enough gusto to stage these larger than life showmen!
‘The Skatalites’ is a name that needs no introduction for ska and reggae fans. More than a band, The Skatalites were and are an institution, a collection of world class musicians who didn't just define the sound of Jamaica, they were the sound of Jamaica across the '50s and '60s. Reforming in the mid 80’s they have been touring and recording ever since. Favourites on the UK festival circuit, these stalwarts of Jamaican Ska are true professionals and put on an awe-inspiring show and spread sunshine at every gig.
Reggae songstress Tanya Stephens is one of the most popular female recording artists to come out of Jamaica in recent years. Bursting onto the dancehall scene with an arresting sound, she quickly proved she could more than handle herself within this predominantly male vocation. Over the years she’s grown into her position and delivered some of the most topical, insightful lyrics in reggae. With ‘It’s a Pity’ Tanya achieved international recognition as a leading reggae / dancehall artist. Boomtown cannot wait to get winding and grinding with this crowd-pleasing goddess of gutsy lyricism!
Asian Dub Foundation are all set to bring their unique blend of rapcore, dub, dancehall and raga with a hefty punk influence to the streets of Boomtown. Often hailed as the 90’s version of the Clash or Sex Pistols, ADF have always pioneered their political ideals through a heavy bassline and pounding drum. Also set to headline Boomtown 2012 is the whirling boundary-less sounds of Balkan Beat Box. This trio put a modern twist on Mediterranean folk music combing horns, reggae vocals and hip hop drums into one almightily energetic mix up of genre spanning funk!
In addition to these top names, there are loads more big hitting and underground gems booked for so far for Boomtown, please see below for a breakdown of all acts booked via genres…

Headliners include electronic pioneers Orbital, and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros who are fronted by the enigmatic IMA ROBOT Alex Ebert. Appropriately for the party’s anniversary year, the Gardeners are thrilled to welcome back KT Tunstall, whose last appearance at the Secret Garden Party was way back in 2004!! Other highlights include legendary Jamaican rocksteady singer Little Roy, Alexander (Alex Ebert's side project) and ear-busting garage rockers The Jim Jones Revue. Well known for championing new music over its 14 live music stages. the gardeners are already tipping Pearl And The Beard, Legendary Tigerman and Scanners for big things in 2012.
The real power of the party is not just about what you are watching or doing, but the fact that you are watching and doing it together. This summer, for the garden’s 10th birthday celebrations, gardeners can expect to be united under the theme ‘Standing on Ceremony’, with more collective celebration, interactive theatre, hypnotic ceremonies and breathtaking spectacles than ever before. The garden will once again play host to an abundance of new dramatic and innovative artworks by a huge range of rising installation artists from all over the world.

There will be even more radical action camps encouraging play and participation across the party. Over the last few years, the intellectual platforms in particular have grown very rapidly, developing handsomely to form an exciting area unique to The Secret Garden Party. Each space is lovingly programmed by fellow gardeners and together they offer a very alternative programme of talks, debates, discussions, science experiments, poetry, theatre, games and workshops. There are numerous camps where gardeners can go to be edified, enlightened and enthralled. This summer we can expect wild rituals and mind bending discussions led by some of the country’s finest experts in their fields.
Of course, delicious fine-dining cuisine will be on offer in the Soul Fire Restaurant and there are even more Boutique Camping luxuries to choose from this summer too.
