Introducing ground-breaking festival Orchestival

Set against the stunning lakeside backdrop of Bath and West Showground, Orchestival 2014 will embark on a musical journey that will change the perception of classical music forever. Across a weekend of remarkable collaborations, some of the world's leading musicians, including Squarepusher, The Unthanks, Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) and the UK's leading orchestra, The Philharmonia Orchestra, will blur the lines between genres to spectacular effect. As well as a host of other mind expanding events including a bulging Talk Tent programme, Creative Workshops plus the best of Somerset dining.

Charles Hazlewood's vision of making great symphonic music accessible to all is coming to life in 2014, Orchestival will defy conceptions of classical music with an unforgettable two days that will expand and evolve all expectations of the genre. Following the success of Orchestra In A Field, an event run to great success by Hazlewood in 2012, Orchestival is set to evolve this initial idea even further. Helping to make this possible will be one of the world's most revered and respected orchestras, The Philharmonia, who set the standard for performances across the weekend as the festival's resident orchestra.

Highlights include Mercury-nominated folk duo The Unthanks. Used to playing across genres, Becky and Rachel Unthank have written a slew of critically acclaimed albums that have earned them fans amongst the likes of Radiohead, Robert Wyatt and Portishead. On Saturday however, the sisters tread unexplored territory as they sing with a full orchestra for the first time. Later, as the sun sets over the lake and rolling hills of Somerset, the euphoric sounds of acid house are taken to new symphonic highs for The Third Summer Of Love: Acid House goes symphonic. Iconic anthems that captured a generation at the peak of the late 80s are revived and reimagined by cellist Matthew Barley and the Philharmonia for an incredible euphoric performance.

Continuing to re-imagine the iconic sounds of the past, Orchestival will play host to a vibrant theatre production of Benjamin Britten’s 1957 opera, Noye’s Fludde. Award-winning international theatre company Kneehigh are inviting members of the local community and festival-goers to take part in the opening performance of Orchestival which is set kick-off the two day extravaganza on a high. Given the recent devastation caused by severe weather in Somerset, Festival organisers have decided to support Flag, the Somerset Levels flood relief fund through the production.

The phenomenal British Paraorchestra, the world's first ever orchestra entirely consisting of virtuoso musicians with disability, will perform pieces from their brand new project ‘Other’ for the very first time, joined by several very special guests. For the classical lovers amongst the audience, The Philharmonia will take to the stage with high-octane performances of breathtakingly beautiful music by Mozart, Haydn, Wagner and Richard Strauss, including the latter's iconic Four Last Songs.

Already responsible for recording Hollywood blockbuster music for films such as Thor 2Iron Man 3 and Elysium, the Philharmonia will bring the world of video games to life in Score! on Sunday, as they fill stunning Somerset with nostalgic soundtracks from gaming classics. Charting earlier generations of retro gaming like Commodore 64 and Sonic the Hedgehog right through to modern day titles such as HaloFinal Fantasy and Call Of Duty, Score! will be a rare and unique opportunity to hear music normally confined to the console played live by a full symphony orchestra. Later Goldfrapp producer and keyboardist Will Gregory is set to blow minds, as he brings his ensemble of virtuousos armed with a cornucopia of retro Moog synthesisers to Orchestival; together they take on music by JS Bach live, in front of thousands of revellers.

Orchestival culminates on Sunday evening with a meeting of minds as Squarepusher and Charles Hazlewood join forces for Squarepusher's Orchestral Ufabulum. As Warp celebrates its 25th anniversary, one of the labels most successful and revered artists will take part in a collision of genres that will take both electronic and classical music to unfathomable new heights. Renowned for his incredible live shows and slew of ground breaking releases, Squarepusher's performance with the Philharmonia will be unmissable.

Some very special guests are still to be announced for Orchestival, which was founded by Charles Hazlewood, one of the most prominent figures in the classical world or as the Guardian would put it – 'what Heston Blumenthal is to food, Charles Hazlewood is to music'. A true pioneer, Charles has made it his goal to bring the genre to a wider audience and Orchestival will take him one step closer.

Speaking about the festival Charles says:
"Music is the most universal language we have, it lifts us up and it unites us. Given the horrendous experiences of so many in the Somerset community with the recent flooding, I see Orchestival as a wonderful piece of good news, a weekend of jaw-dropping music to bind us all together. I'm thrilled to welcome the Philharmonia Orchestra along with Squarepusher, The Unthanks, Kneehigh, the Paraorchestra, all the workshops and talks plus the amazing food! In my mind there is no other festival with this breadth of music, bring on July!

Liars, Kurt Vile, Panda Bear and more join Jabberwocky lineup

Mute Records’ Liars have, since their inception in 2000, spent over a decade honing their expertly executed electronic dance-punk. Their constant focus on rhythm and texture over more obvious elements is perhaps shown best on their recently released and already critically acclaimed seventh album ‘Mess’. They come to Jabberwocky for an exclusive UK set for 2014.

With last years slice of reflective slice of genius ‘Wakin’ on a Pretty Daze’ proving to be one of the undisputed highlights of 2013, Kurt Vile & The Violators return to the UK for a set of the warm slacker-pop that Kurt has perfected since his 2008 debut ‘Constant Hitmaker’. He is a perfect addition to the Jabberwocky lineup.

As a founding member of Animal Collective gone solo, Panda Bear’s experimental, reverb-soaked brand of heavily percussive and psychedelic dream pop has placed him as a heavily influential modern musician in a genre that can be far too lacking in originality. His upcoming studio album, tentatively titled ‘Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper’, is sure to be as progressive as ever.

Formed in Cleveland, Ohio Cloud Nothings have spent the last five years peddling their inventive and damn catchy brand of noisy indie-rock. With emphasis equally on melody and noise, upcoming Wichita Records album ‘Here and Nowhere Else’ is an early contender for highlight of the year.

Having produced remixes for an insanely eclectic lineup of acts including The XX, José James, Boys Noize, Moderat and even sometime Flaming Lips collaborator and pop starlet Ke$ha,Untold is a name that all should be familiar with. Full-length album ‘Black Light Spiral’ is ready to drop imminently and proves Untold to be one of the UK’s freshest and most interesting young producers.

LA feedback obsessed experimental rap trio clipping. fuse walls of static with a fierce sense of anti-everything wordplay that brings to mind fellow noise terrorists Death Grips. This is caustic, kneejerk hip-hop not to be overlooked.

Those with the foresight to catch Big Ups’ first trip to the UK earlier this year witnessed one of the most vital, snotty and visceral punk shows in recent years. Coming across as the bastard children of Fugazi and The Jesus Lizard, their debut album ‘Eighteen Hours Of Static’ throws the snarling observational lyrics of frontman Joe Galarraga together with the uneasy, tense backing of the rest of the group to create one of the most original albums of last year.

Probably best known as the guitarist for Dirty Three and his endeavors in the world of art, Australian musician Mick Turner’s distinctive style has seen him back up the likes of Cat Power and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. He will be returning to ATP having performed at the last Camber Sands weekender with last years ‘Don’t Tell The Driver’ album in tow.

Matthew Dear joins the Riverside Festival lineup

The Electric Frog & Pressure Riverside Festival have today revealed that dance music pioneer Matthew Dear will join the hugely diverse bill for the two day event this May Bank Holiday weekend.

The Electric Frog & Pressure Riverside Festival have already confirmed a dynamic line-up including 2ManyDJs, Jamie JonesAndrew Weatherall, Cajmere, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Felix Da Housecat, Francois K, Laurent Garnier, Lord of the Isles, Mash, Melting Pot, Moritz Von Oswald, notsosilentPan-Pot, DJ Sneak, Slam, Sunday Circus, Tiga, Visionquest and Vitalic (live).

Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound and has had remixes commissioned by The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service, and Chemical Brothers; he’s made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical’s Body Language. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none—and he’s just hitting his stride.

Matthew Dear is also know as his alter-ego Audion and alongside Tiga has produced the track of the year so far with ‘Let's Go Dancing’. Tiga and Dear have combined forces again on new single ‘Fever’; the hypnotic, percussion-fuelled track is said to serve as another taste of Tiga's forthcoming full-length album, which, as luck would have it, was co-produced by Dear.

Now increased to a two day event, the outdoor music festival takes place on the grounds of the iconic Riverside Museum and The Tall Ship, on the banks of the River Clyde over the May Bank Holiday weekend (3rd and 4th May).

Plus a host of cutting edge EDM and drum ‘n’ bass acts will bring the big club atmosphere straight to the heart of the Scottish countryside when they perform in the Slam Tent, including Joris Voorn, Robert Hood, Duke Dumont, Pretty Lights, Skream, Kerri Chandler, Tale of Us, Guy Gerber, Jackmaster, Alex Smoke, Factory Floor, Mark Henning and Clouds.

The Charlatans have been an inspirational force in British rock for more than two decades now. They remain as exciting and relevant now as when they first broke through to the immortal strains of The Only One I Know in 1990. The Manchester legends played the 2nd T in the Park back in 1995 and have been firm favourites with festival fans throughout the festival’s history. They’re sure to receive a warm welcome back when they take to the T in the Park stage for the first time since 2008.

Rising from London’s underground electronic scene in the mid-1990s, DJ Fresh is one of the most influential figures on the UK drum 'n' bass scene today, with 2 million record sales, two no.1 singles and a further two top 5 singles to his name. His single Louder became the first dubstep single to reach the top of the UK singles chart, before he returned to the no.1 spot with 2012’s Hot Right Nowfeaturing Rita Ora. His third record Nextlevelism featured collaborations with Dizzee Rascal and Juliette Lewis, with a fourth studio album set for release this year. His T in the Park performance will see him team up with the legendary Messy MC.

Reverend & The Makers were at the forefront of the resurgent Sheffield indie-rock scene in 2005/2006, smashing into the top ten with their debut single Heavyweight Champion of the World. The band’s appearances as part of the bill for Oasis’ now legendary final shows at Wembley Stadium bolstered their growing fanbase. They returned early this year with the release of their fourth albumThirtyTwo, much to the excitement of their loyal fans.

The Magic Numbers, known for their unique harmonies, melodic hooks, song writing craftsmanship and timeless sound, return to T in the Park having last played the festival 8 years ago. To date, the band have released three successful albums, including their Mercury Prize nominated 2005 self-titled debut, with many of their singles gracing the top 20 charts, resulting in over a million album sales worldwide.
Having self-released two albums in 2009 and 2011, Twenty One Pilots quickly attracted serious label attention. Known for their irrepressible on-stage energy, the duo have built an avid international following, with their debut studio album Vessel showcasing their distinctive fusion of piano-driven indie-rocktronica. They’ll make their T in the Park debut this summer.
Foxes’ soaring pop melodies are anchored by an edgy melancholia, as showcased on hit single Youthand on her Grammy-winning collaboration with Zedd, Clarity, which was the soundtrack of the summer in America last year, reaching the Billboard Top Ten.
Some of the most hotly tipped breakthrough acts of the year are also gearing up to play T in the Park for the first time this summer. Wolf Alice have won plaudits from the likes of BBC Radio 1, NMEand The Guardian after they released their debut EP Blush at the end of 2013. Drenge – aka brothers Rory and Eoin Loveless – will bring their raw grunge-inspired blues pop sound to the festival for the first time. Also appearing are Liverpool indie-pop four-piece Circa Waves who recently went down a storm at the NME Awards Tour 2014 –and Brighton blues rock duo Royal Blood, who were championed on the BBC’s Sound of 2014 list, and who have been invited to open for T in the Park headliners’ Arctic Monkeys when they play their Finsbury Park shows this year.

Since they walked away with the top prize on UK primetime TV talent show, When Will I Be Famous in 2007, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have fast become a global phenomenon, with their cover of Avicii’sWake Me Up surpassing 1 million YouTube views, and taking their signature 'Bagrock' sound to the masses. The band said:  “In 2004 we performed one song at T in the Park as special guests of The Darkness. For the past 10 years we have been working towards our ultimate ambition of coming back to T in our own right. There are just not enough words to describe how thrilled and honoured we are at being asked to play the Main Stage in 2014.  Bringing our special brand of 'Bagrock' to this world famous festival with a home crowd – it just doesn't get any better!”

Founding member of the legendary group Underground Resistance with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks & Jeff Mills,Robert Hood’s seminal works on Jeff Mill's Axis and his very own M-Plant imprint paved the way for a wave of stripped-down dance floor minimalism. He brings his influential minimal Detroit techno to the Slam line-up.

2014 looks set to be huge for the unstoppable Duke Dumont, who is currently sitting at the top of the charts with his irrepressible summer anthem I Got U feat Jax Jones. The British DJ and producer’s breakthrough hit, 2013’s Need U (100%) feat. A*M*E also reached no.1 and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.

Pretty Lights will bring his sample-based electro hip hop soul to the Slam Tent. His epic soundscapes have a vintage vibe – instead of sampling existing recordings, he has worked with everyone from the Harlem Gospel Choir to members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Treme Brass Band to create a unique sound. Already confirmed to headline Chicago’s Spring Awakening Festival and play at Sonar in Barcelona, Pretty Lights will bring the party atmosphere to Balado this July.

Kerri 'Kaoz' Chandler is a house legend – his fusions of heady bass-lines, synthesizers, and catchy choruses are sure to go down a storm at T in the Park. Also joining the Slam bill is Glasgow’s Alex Smoke, who blurs the boundaries between electronica, techno, classical and hip hop, melding European minimalism, pop structures and emotional strings to create a moody blend of melancholic electronica.
