She continued: “We will not quit or operate in fear. We won’t let this divide us. We won’t let hate win… Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.”
“Music is meant to heal us, to bring us together, to make us happy. So that is what it will continue to do for us. We will continue to honour the ones we lost, their loved ones, my fans and all affected by this tragedy. They will be on my mind and in my heart everyday and I will think of them with everything I do for the rest of my life.”

With past performances from artists as diverse as Rage Against the Machine, Blur, The Prodigy, Daft Punk, Placebo, James Brown, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Eminem and New Order, T in the Park 2011 was bound to be one of the best festivals in the UK this year, taking place in beautiful Kinross-shire, Scotland, with a capacity of 85,000 per day including 70,000 happy campers. As I arrive on Friday morning with a sea of euphoric festival goers of all ages and styles, the atmosphere is brilliant, the sun is shining, we’re all showered and clean and most importantly we have an amazing line up to look forward to. I say all ages because I managed to hitch a lift up to Scotland with my lovely mum and her friends.
It’s early in the evening and I head over to the main stage to watch Tom Jones. He tells the crowd about when he used to sing gospel songs with Elvis in Las Vegas. Tom comes on and belts out a gospel inspired repertoire of his greatest hits, no one can quite believe he can still sing like that. Then I head over to the Radio 1/NME stage to get a good spot for White Lies and Pendulum, where to my delight I discover Twin Atlantic, a Glaswegian alt rock band that I’m sure will be headlining T in the Park in the near future, ‘Crash Land’ –an absolutely brilliant song. Now time for White Lies and I’ve secured a comfortable place near the stage, the London three-piece play with precision and force, influenced by the likes of Talking Heads and Joy Division their music has a melancholic feel and dark undertone but is nevertheless very danceable, putting synthesizers to good use. They even get a bit of a mosh pit going from the third song ‘To Lose My Life’ whose lyrics: ‘that our dead love is buried beneath the mud’ are quite fitting for the occasion. Now its time for tonight’s Radio 1/NME stage headliners: Pendulum. I get as up front as possible, the mighty Aussies start off with ‘Salt In Wounds’ making the crowd go into a dancing frenzy but I end up paying the price for being in the front row when half an hour into Pendulum I feel a warm trickle down my leg, I turn around and see a lovely young man whose aim was terrible, peeing right behind me. Oh well, that wasn’t going to dampen my spirits or make me stop dancing. Pendulum kept the crowd dancing and moshing through the whole set. They were unquestionably one of the highlights at T in the Park, well-known for their electric live performances. The crowd was blown away with the sheer power of their flavourful fusion of heavy rock, drum and bass and electronica. One on the most unique, inventive and interesting bands to surface in recent years. If you were there and didn’t see them, you missed out big time.
The Scottish weather is holding up and people are beginning to swap their wellies for sunglasses. The first bands are just coming on around 12 and I wonder around the festival grounds to see what I find, surprisingly I come across fish pedicures and the Road Ink bus. A mobile top class tattoo studio. I had a chat with owner and tattoo artist Gary, who gives me the low-down on tattooing at festivals. The Road Ink bus was spotless and jam-packed with festival goers wanting to get something to remember this special occasion. Soon it was time to go over to the main stage to catch guitar-god Slash at work. He plays a few Guns n Roses classics with some Velvet Revolver songs thrown in but only the die-hard fans know the guy that’s singing, all in all not exactly what the festival goers were expecting from such a rock n roll legend. With the sun still shining I head to go and see The Strokes, one of the most influential indie-rock bands of the decade, the New Yorkers effortlessly play to musical perfection, the crowd is full of energy, mosh pits are going strong and we all thoroughly enjoy every single song they play. Over to the Slam tent for some good old electronica, two of my favourite DJs/producers the Parisian Vitalic and Canadian Tiga keep the people sweaty and dancing. Afterwards I manage to catch a bit of Primal Scream, who had some awesome visuals with ‘Screamadelica’ and manage to completely pack the King Tut tent, they even had my mum dancing. Coldplay bring Saturday night to an epic close, making even those that weren’t fans sing along to their catalogue of hits.
Mud bath Sunday started with a pretty special performance from legendary Blondie at the main stage, festival goers were well and truly preparing themselves for the last night, smiles and cider all around. Another one of the highlights at this year’s T in the Park were Weezer, who completely rocked the main stage right after Blondie, despite the rain. Their happy alt rock tunes got everyone singing and swaying, there was definitely an agreement between the festival goers that their performance was one of the best at this year’s T. Pure class. I had my doubts about the next band, the infamous My Chemical Romance, but they proved all the critics wrong and were completely awesome, frontman Gerard Way sung like there was no tomorrow, I can now say I’m a fan. Sunday made our lives quite complicated, it was too muddy and the line-up was just too good. I headed to the Slam tent for a bit of dancing, where American DJ and producer, Diplo had everyone partying hard. Then suddenly it was time for the Foo Fighters, fronted by the notoriously talented multi-instrumentalist musician Dave Grohl, former drummer of Nirvana. This was a performance that none of us will forget. ‘We’ve got a lot of fucking songs, we’re going to play as many as we can until they make us stop!’ exclaimed Grohl early on, and they did exactly that, ploughing through a total of twenty-three songs, including some new instant crowd pleasers from their brand new album, ‘Wasting Light’. Known for being one of the best live bands around, the Foo Fighters sure as hell lived up to their reputation as alt rock royalty. For the last part of the show, bassist Nate Mendel wore a kilt to the crowd’s delight and they brought the festival to an explosive end, covering the skies with fireworks and an epic performance of ‘Everlong’. No other band could have closed T in the Park 2011 better.

Here are the full lineup details!
Oxegen is back for 2011 and once again boasts a stellar bill crammed with the biggest and best musical talent on the planet, including some of the world’s most loved festival headliners. Fifty million album selling, Grammy and BRIT award winning band Coldplayjoin The Strokes, The Script, Deadmau5 and The National in today’s big announcement. They will appear at Oxegen alongside TheBlack Eyed Peas and Foo Fighters on a bill that also includes Arctic Monkeys and Paolo Nutini and an ultra-impressive bill of ‘must see’ acts at Punchestown Racecourse across the weekend of8-10th July 2011.
It’s an Oxegen festival first for Coldplay, who will delight their devoted army of fans with their renowned powerful performance at Punchestown. This is a band who are well used to packing out stadiums the world over and are also headlining Glastonbury this year, but they will be in for a treat when they play to a packed main stage crowd and experience the unrivalled and electric atmosphere at Oxegen. Coldplay are set to deliver a spine-tingling show that will undoubtedly be a seminal musical moment of the summer.
Following a long live break, The Strokes will bring their Stateside style to the musical centre of Ireland. Their 2001 debut album ‘Is This it’ was widely regarded by music critics and fans alike as one of the best indie rock albums in a decade and their forthcoming fourth album ‘Angels’ is the ultimate proof that these NYC music and style icons are still as strong. Demand to see them live is even stronger, they lead the line-up for California’s Coachella festival this year.
It’s been a rollercoaster ride for The Script, whose new No.1 album ‘Science & Faith’ and top five single ‘For The First Time’ has led to the announcement of a massive UK arena tour for 2011 and a highly anticipated set at Oxegen. The Script’s new album is the follow up to 2008’s 1.8 million selling self-titled, No.1, global smash of a debut. In their own words, “First and foremost we are a live band. We’re gonna give it everything, we just can’t wait!!”
Also from across the pond comes Deadmau5 - the 28 year old Canadian born electro house producer with a big difference. There’s the large cartoon mouse head costume of course, but there’s also the artist, the technical whizzkid, the Grammy Award nominee and the outstanding reputation for being the most forward thinking person in electronic music right now. Killer clubland tracks such
as ‘Ghosts N Stuff’ and ‘I Remember’ are sure to form part of a highly visual set that will go down in history. He’s so in demand he is now headlining his own super-shows and is due to play to 35,000 in London in June. The man has his finger on the pulse, he creates the pulse, he IS the pulse.
American supergroup The National have released some of the most important albums of modern times with huge hitters ‘Boxer’ and ‘Alligator’ making countless “album of the century” lists. Frontman Matt Berninger’s deep voice lends itself perfectly to raw, reflective lyrics, sending listeners on an epic journey with each track.
The phenomenal bill already includes rock gods Foo Fighters who are set to release their highly anticipated seventh studio album ‘Wasting Light.’ Frontman Dave Grohl (NME Godlike Genius 2011) recently revealed he wants to play it live at night in front of tens of thousands of people – “It’s a festival album because it f**king rocks!.” Grohl will do exactly that as the Foo Fighters put in yet another stadium calibre performance, debuting new material alongside anthems from their multi-platinum, multiple Grammy-winning catalogue, which includes the likes of The Pretender, Best of You, All My Life, Learn To Fly, Everlong and more. This will be the final chance for Foo’s fans to see their music heroes live and loud in Ireland for a long time, so must not be missed.
The Black Eyed Peas are back by huge public demand and will bring their spectacular stage show to Oxegen. The band have secured their reputation as one of the most popular, innovative and exciting live acts of the last decade and will arrive fresh from their all-conquering headline slot at the Wireless Festival in London. With huge dance infused beats and anthemic hit tracks, 2009’s album ‘The E.N.D’ pushed boundaries in pop music, selling more than 11 million copies worldwide and driving the group well ahead of the pop pack.
Also on the bill and top of festival fans’ wish lists for favourite festival acts are
Arctic Monkeys. They released their debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ in 2006 and haven’t looked back since. In 2009 ‘Humbug’ became their 3rd consecutive Number 1 LP and Oxegen fans will be in for a treat when they debut songs from forthcoming 4th studio album. Arctic Monkeys are a band of the people, totally in tune with a new generation of live music lovers. With two albums still in the top 40 in Ireland, Paolo Nutini’s return to Oxegen is also in much demand. The Scots troubadour now tops the bill at festivals all over the world.
It’s a ‘fans favourites’ feast of talent for 2011 – an overwhelming overload of the biggest established and best breakthrough bands, ONLY at Oxegen. With the fan input and experience firmly at the heart of the event, it seems only fitting that the announcement was made direct to the fans last night at 8pm, via the artists themselves at www.oxegen.ie.
John Probyn, Festival Director said: “I’m overwhelmed at the excitement from the bands who are playing Oxegen and very pleased to unveil the line up to the fans who helped us create it. We have pulled out all the stops to deliver this A List line-up. Some of these bands won’t be back playing Ireland for quite some time, which is going to make their appearances all the more special. We have decided to announce it direct to the fans this year via the artists themselves at oxegen.ie. To be part of a festival that unites the fans and the bands in this way is unique. With a line-up like this, I’m certain 2011 is going to be the most memorable Oxegen yet.”
The list of newly announced bands further proves that Oxegen is the must attend music event of 2011.
The infamous Swedish House Mafia are set to tear it up when they take to the Oxegen stage. Huge individually and riotous together, the superstar trio of DJ’s Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell take dance music to another level when performing as a collective. They stormed the charts with Tinie Tempah last year providing the unofficial soundtrack to the summer with dance floor anthem ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’.
Brandon Flowers will be wearing his solo hat for the first time at Oxegen this year. The charismatic frontman of rock and roll supergroup The Killers released his debut solo album ‘Flamingo’ to wide scale acclaim from critics and fans alike, with both album and hit single ‘Crossfire’ claiming UK number ones. A fashion icon, talented songwriter and performing genius, Ireland welcomes a legend in the making.
It’s raw rock’n’roll one minute, and classic pop the next from Beady Eye, as they confirm their appearance at this year’s Oxegen. Beady Eye will be performing songs from their debut album, released next week entitled “Different Gear, Still Speeding”. Beady Eye is the band formed by ex Oasis members Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy Bell.
Fresh from picking up two NME Awards for Best International Band and Best Video for ‘Na Na Na’, My Chemical Romance are currently on a massive UK and American tour with album ‘Danger Days’. Frontman Gerard Way has become the icon of the punk rock generation with legions of adoring fans. Renowned for soaring live performances and electrifying guitar riffs, their summer set in Ireland is sure to burst a few ear drums.
Influential multi-platinum, Grammy winning alternative rock band Weezer will wow the crowd at Oxegen with their series of hits and new tracks from their forthcoming album ‘Hurley’ – a return to their indie roots with a highly personal and sonically exploratory album guaranteed to delight their fans. It seems only fitting that one of the most accomplished and genre defining modern rock bands on the planet come to Punchestown.
Hailing from Perth, Australia, Pendulum already have two platinum albums already under their belt and they are back with their most enthralling work to date, with forthcoming third album ‘Immersion.’ They will quite literally immerse the Oxegen crowd in one of the most visceral and exhilarating live experiences on the planet when they play Punchestown.
BRIT award winner for British Solo Male Plan B and winner of British Single and British Breakthrough Artist Tinie Tempah are two of the UK’s biggest success stories and their respective performances at Oxegen are sure to show why. With the release of his multi-platinum selling second album ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’, dapper lyrical geniusPlan B proved he is the ultimate package and one of the most talented and versatile artists in UK music.
Tinie Tempah is breaking records and boundaries in British music and hit single ‘Pass Out’ was the smash hit of 2010, recently resulting in the BRIT award for British Single. He has also worked with the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Ellie Goulding and Kelly Rowland and will undoubtedly pass out all the hits and pull out all the stops at Punchestown.
With an extraordinary 26 year history Primal Scream have got all the stories and all the hits and this year, they will present one of their very biggest ‘Screamadlica’ to the Oxegen crowd in its entirety. For a man who’s been making music for over quarter of a century now, it’s reassuring that Bobby still has passion for what he does and for performing one of the most thrilling and important records of the modern era, live at Oxegen.
From some uber cool boys to one seriously hot girl, Oxegen will welcome a sizzling set from BRITs Critcs Choice award winner Jessie J – just one of the many other triumphant and talented acts confirmed for Oxegen 2011.
Fresh from their success scooping the Choice Music Award for Best Irish Album with ‘Tourist History’ Two Door Cinema Club take a deserved collective bow on their return this year.

The lineup for T in the Park 2011 was scheduled to be announced today at 11am, however possibly due to high traffic on the T in the Park website, nothing was revealed, however the lineup started showing up via Twitter.
We can let you know that Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters will be headlining.
Arctic Monkeys released their debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ in 2006. That same year, the phenomenal four-piece made another stunning debut on the Main Stage at TITP (T in the Park). They followed this with a headline slot in 2007 and released their 2nd LP ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’. In 2009 they released ‘Humbug’ their 3rd consecutive Number 1 LP. Arctic Monkeys are a band of the people, totally in tune with a new generation of live music lovers and top of festival fans’ wish lists for favourite festival headliners.
Coldplay made their TITP debut in the King Tut’s Wah Wah Tent in 2000 and returned to headline in 2003 when Chris Martin changed the lyrics of ‘God Put a Smile upon Your Face’ to “God gave you light and gave you dark, God gave you tickets for T in the Park”. 8 years later they are back as one of the biggest bands in the world. Having sold over 50 million records worldwide, Coldplay have been packing stadiums the world over, treating their army of fans to powerful performances and there’s another spine-tingling set instore when they take centre stage in Scotland.
Foo Fighters are set to release their highly anticipated seventh studio album and frontman Dave Grohl (NME Godlike Genius 2010) recently revealed he wants to play it live at night in front of tens of thousands of people – “It’s a festival album because it f**king rocks!.” Grohl will do exactly that as the Foo Fighters put in yet another stadium calibre performance at this year’s T in the Park, debuting new material from their forthcoming album alongside anthems from their multi-platinum, multiple Grammy-winning catalogue. The TITP crowd is sure to go home satisfied and exhausted, and nursing throats sore from singing along with the likes of The Pretender, Best of You, All My Life, Learn To Fly, Everlong and more.
Hailing from Southern California, pop punk trio blink-182 have notched up over 25 million worldwide album sales since forming in 1992. They released five studio albums including multi-platinum selling breakthrough album ‘Enema of the State (1999) between 1994 and 2005, before breaking away from the music scene. The 51st Grammy Awards in 2009 brought the band back together and with a new album planned for release in 2011, blink-182 will be at Balado for an unforgettable T in the Park 2011.
Pulp make a return to this year’s TITP for what is sure to be one of the musical events of the summer. The show will involve all the original members of the band (Nick Banks, Jarvis Cocker, Candida Doyle, Steve Mackey, Russell Senior and Mark Webber) and they will be playing songs from all periods of their career. They previously headlined TITP’s Main Stage in both 1996 and 1998 and played King Tut’s Wah Wah Tent at the inaugural TITP in 1994.
It’s been a rollercoaster ride for The Script, whose new No.1 album ‘Science & Faith’ and top five single ‘For The First Time’ has led to the announcement of a massive UK arena tour for 2011 and a highly anticipated set at TITP. The Script’s new album is the follow up to 2008’s 1.8 million selling self-titled, No.1, global smash of a debut. In their own words, “First and foremost we are a live band. We’re gonna give it everything, we just can’t wait!!”
BRIT award winner for British Solo Male Plan B and winner of British Single and British Breakthrough Artist Tinie Tempah are two of the UK’s biggest success stories and their respective performances at TITP are sure to show why. With the release of his multi-platinum selling second album ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’, dapper lyrical genius Plan B proved he is the ultimate package and one of the most talented and versatile artists in UK music.
Tinie Tempah is breaking records and boundaries in British music and hit single ‘Pass Out’ was the smash hit of 2010, recently resulting in the BRIT award for British Single. He has also worked with the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Ellie Goulding and Kelly Rowland and will undoubtedly be one of the biggest hits at T in the Park 2011.
It’s raw rock’n’roll one minute, and classic pop the next from Beady Eye, as they confirm their appearance at this year’s T in the Park Festival. Beady Eye will be performing songs from their debut album, released next week entitled “Different Gear, Still Speeding”. Beady Eye is the band formed by ex Oasis members Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy Bell.
The legend that is Tom Jones will also grace the green, green grass of Balado. During his 40 year career, Jones has sold in excess of 100 million records worldwide and collaborated with the likes of Chicane, Wyclef Jean, Stereophonics and Robbie Williams as well as unreleased material with Elvis Presley.
