The Blackdown Beer & Music Festival details

Expect lots of entertainment on Saturday afternoon to keep the kids happy while you enjoy music from local bands, the lovely, relaxed family atmosphere and beautiful scenery – and maybe the odd glass or two………

The money we raise goes to funding music in the local schools and community – essential in these days of crunches and cuts – so that the next generation don’t miss out on the fun and benefits of making music.

There is a camp site nearby so you don’t have to worry about driving home.

Vintage Festival takes over London’s Southbank Centre

Vintage at Southbank Centre is a sensual delight, a big dressing-up box, a collector’s dream and a joyous creative feast for all ages. For one glamorous weekend we celebrate the music, fashion, film, art, design and dance from the 1920s to the 1980s with 3 unique revue shows featuring soul legends Percy Sledge and Booker T, electronic pioneers Thomas Dolby and Alan Wilder, 60s icon Sandie Shaw and over 150 DJs celebrating club culture through the decades, including Andrew Weatherall, A Guy Called Gerald, Greg Wilson and Norman Jay.

Royal Festival Hall will transform into a multi-venue playground designed by Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway and the Hemingway Design team. Over 13 hours each day, pass holders can ‘learn the dances’, take in 70 live performances and 150 exclusive DJ sets across 8 decade specific nightclubs, enjoy catwalk shows hosted by Jo Wood and Pearl and Daisy Lowe, brilliantly conceived vintage food and cocktails, or take advantage of all the wonderful vintage shopping on offer in the Vintage Marketplace. Watch out for the Vintage ‘style hunters’ who roam the site to snap the most fashion-savvy festival goers and the `Best in Show Parades’ that reward all those who quite simply look fabulous… Will it be you?!

For the full lineup and information about each decade please follow the link below:

AREAS:

Massive In China
Like a rabbit in a raincoat in a box, Festibelly goers will be in for a surprise when they draw aside the curtains of the brand new Massive In China tent – a kaleidoscope of wrong cabaret and stand-up comedy, musically delightful soft to weird acoustic melodies, a bit of boombastic over to the light fantastic. Or get a bit vintage-crafty whilst watching circus performance and getting involved in a wonky gameshow or magic-not-magic act.

The Nest
A new treetop stage nestled amongst the giant oaks of the Festi-forest. Fear of Theydon will be curating a line-up that befits the mystical setting with luscious sounds of cosmic, disco and Balearic goodness pulsing through the trees.

Le Disco
Featuring everything from dubstep to disco, a full line-up of electronic acts will feature throughout the day and night. Taking it into the early hours Le Disco Silence will be catering for all the night owls.

Terrapin Station
An alternative to the main stage the Terrapin Station combines flavours of acoustic, folk, gypsy and jazz and is home to the notorious Festibelly Folk Off – the signer/songwriter competition where the discerning crowd will cast their vote and crown one lucky contestant Folk King/Queen, winning themselves an opening slot on the main stage for 2012.

Autumn Shift
Following up on their debut Festibelly appearance last year, Autumn Shift will be setting up to provide all manner of musical delights as well as their cosy café, live poetry, painting and massages should you be wanting to unwind after a hard day’s party.

Amazing Radio
Broadcasting live from the Festibelly site, the Amazing Radio team will be providing as-it-happens coverage of the festival, live sessions and interviews and all the latest news and info in the run up to the event.

Björk to headline Sunday at Bestival 2011

Rob da Bank says: ‘I honestly can’t believe Björk is coming to Bestival. Without a doubt one of the most iconic musicians of the last century, Björk is always one step ahead of the pack with her music and innovations and the new Biophilia show is jam-packed full of technology, great interpretations of her amazing catalogue of songs and some brand new corkers. The grand finale to Bestival 2011 just got better!’

BjorkBjörk’s unique vocal flare and experimental spark has made her one of the world’s greatest artistes and her spellbinding live shows have become the stuff of legend, so it’s a complete honour that she’s coming to our Isle of Wight shindig. In a worldwide outdoor festival exclusive, Björk will be playing a host of classic tracks, bringing things right up to date with her current hugely anticipated and inspirational musical project and album, ‘Biophilia’, which continues to push the boundaries of entertainment, combining music, apps, internet installations and live shows. Making it a sure fire guarantee that Bestivalites are in for a proper treat when it comes to this year’s closing set on the main stage.

Melt Festival add more acts

Fringe Events 2011
Last year, we attempted a first approach with a workshop held by Modeselektor. This year, we have even more to offer. From 16th to 17th July, free workshops (e.g. w/ Ostgut DJ Tobias Freund) and lectures (e.g. w/ Karhard Architektur, architects of Berlin’s Berghain as well as Bauhaus representative Burghard Duhm) take place, establishing a connection between electronic music, Melt!, Bauhaus, and art in general. In addition, Melt! festivalgoers have the opportunity to visit the Bauhaus exhibition for a reduced price of EUR 4. Signing up isn’t necessary. First come, first serve. Shuttle buses will be provided taking you to Dessau and back. To check out the entire programme, please go to our website. We will even extend our collaborations: Melt! Festival curates a stage at Farbfest Dessau, which takes place on the Bauhaus grounds as well as Dessau University. The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble is our first confirmed act for this event on 3rd September. We’re also looking forward to opening Intro Kneipe at Orangerie. From Friday to Sunday, the magazine will present all of its pop cultural facets. The perfect way to take a break in between acts. Besides interviews with performing artists and lectures, Intro’s editors picked out a variety of films and organised various book readings. For further info, click here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/intro_kneipe). Melt! also goes sport this year. Together with Elbufercamp, we have a bike as well as a dragon boat rental ready for you. For further info and to sign up, click here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/news/915459648/das-melt-wird-sportlich)

New Confirmations
For the third time, Editors will perform in Ferropolis. In 2005, the band performed in Ferropolis for the first time presenting their debut The Back Room in the sunny afternoon. Since then, their careers took off. In 2011, Editor are about to bring us all their hits from their debut to their 2009 album In This Light And On This Evening. We also have Architecture in Helsinki on board. With their playful synth sounds, and their unconventional use of instruments like glockenspiel, tuba, xylophone, recorder and tap dance shoes as a rhythmic element, Architecture in Helsinki truly stick out of the crowd. Also confirmed are Le Corps Mince de Françoise, the Icelandic combo Retro Stefson, the Australian DJ duo Bag Raiders as well as the London-based trio Is Tropical. Techno grandmaster Tobi Neumann, Andreas Dorau and Kuriose Naturale joined our line-up as well. Before and after Melt! acts conquer our various stages, we have our lovely changeover DJ and party posse ready for you: Fieber-Tanzparty, Revolver Club, Team Recorder, Fryzeit, Radio & Fernseh, Voodoohop, Karrera Klub, King Kong Kicks and Trashpop feat. Wolke und Timid Tiger. For further info on our changeover DJs, click here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/news/3207914128/die-changeover-und-party-posse). Unfortunately, some acts did cancel on us. Matt And Kim, Tom Vek, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros as well as Duchess Says won’t be able to attend this year’s Melt! Festival.

Running Order & Melt! App
Our running order is also ready, which can be downloaded right here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/acts) as well as our new and improved Melt! App 2011. Find all the Melt! info you need before and more importantly during Melt! Festival. So that you don’t have to use your mobile Internet connection too frequently, all data will be saved on your smart phone. Should there be any changes in our timetable, the app will inform you immediately. Of course, you are also able to put together your very own running order. Just mark the artists you want to see. To download the app, click here (http://itunes.apple.com/app/melt-2011/id445361830?mt=8). A new feature of our Melt! App 2011 is the friends finder. You receive an individual ID that you can give out to your friends to add. You will be able to see where your friends are at. In addition, we have our FAQs available for you when needed, a bus schedule as well as a map of the festival site and the camping area.

Jessie J cancels all her festival performances

Following the statement released by Jessie J regarding forthcoming Festival performance cancellations, including T in the Park, Festival Director Geoff Ellis comments: ‘I am  gutted. She was someone I was really looking forward to seeing and I’m sure a lot of T in the Parkers were too. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to welcome her next year.’

Due to a serious injury, having broken her foot in two places Jessie J has had to undergo emergency surgery. As a result of this, under strict orders from her doctor she will not be able to perform for a number of weeks so she can heal and recuperate properly. She is extremely upset and has sent a message to all her fans.
“Sorry doesn’t feel enough to say, I am devastated for my fans that I know have been waiting to see me and working hard for tickets. I was so excited about the summer and I’m as upset as you all are. But unfortunately these things happen. I have to remain positive and I promise I will make it up later in the year.”

Latitude Festival add more comedy to the lineup

Latitude is ecstatic to announce that the King of sardonic observational humour with a dry yet charming wit – the delightful Dylan Moran joins the Comedy line-up for Latitude this year. This Irish comedy legend rose to fame in the mid nineties – winning a string of awards – including the So You Think Your Funny Award at Edinburgh Festival and most notably becoming the youngest winner of the then titled Perrier Comedy Award in 1996. But it was in 2000 that he became a mainstream success when the sitcom Black Books first aired – his portrayal of the hilarious book shop owner Bernard Black as a miserable, unsociable, chain-smoking drunk – delivered this despicable character straight to our hearts.

His acting has also taken him to the big screen featuring alongside Simon Pegg in Shaun Of The Dead, Run, Fatboy, Run as well as a cameo in the film Notting Hill. But it’s his stand-up that sees Moran at his truly brilliant best. Voted Number 14 in Channel 4’s 100 Funniest People in 2010 – his shambolic persona yet precise articulation and fantastical imagery makes for a unique and frankly unmissable performance.  Moran will be joining Latitude on a high from his current UK tour ‘yeah, yeah’.

American comic, writer and actress Rita Rudner will be joining the all star line-up at Latitude’s Comedy Arena. Now a stalwart of the Vegas comedy scene Rudner has recorded several award-winning comedy specials including ‘Rita Rudner: Born to Be Mild’, ‘Rita Rudner: Married Without Children’ for HBO and ‘Rita Rudner: Live From Las Vegas’ for PBS. Rudner’s recent work includes her book, ‘I Still Have It… I Just Can’t Remember Where I Put It: Confessions of a Fifty something’ and her stand-up show, which since 2001, has been performed almost exclusively in Las Vegas, selling over one million tickets. With the show proving such a success it has recently been moved to a larger theatre (The Venetian)!

Unfortunately Greg Davies has had to cancel his appearance at Latitude this year.
Since its inception in 2006, Latitude has changed the face of festivals forever, with a passion only matched by its ambition. Encompassing all aspects of the art and music worlds Latitude is the only place that brings together the best in music, literature, comedy, poetry, film, theatre, cabaret, art, dance, opera and fashion for one spectacular weekend. With an unrivalled line-up taking shape, Latitude 2011 will be another exhilarating, scintillating and inspirational festival of fun.

Elsewhere throughout the weekend, festival goers can enjoy readings from leading poets and authors including Linton Kwesi Johnson, Louise Wener, Tim Key, Simon Armitage, Andrew Smith and Alexei Sayle; top comics Alan Carr and Omid Djalili and a festival debut of Never Mind The Buzzcocks; exciting theatre and dance productions presented by The Gate, Flawless, Sadler’s Wells and English National Ballet to name but a few, cabaret performances from David Schneider & Friends, Will Adamsdale, Idiots of Ants; BAFTA return to the Film & Music Arena with a fantastic programme of Q&As, discussions and workshops including comedy stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon discussing their hilarious work on Michael Winterbottom’s ‘The Trip’ and Tate Britain with Nigel Barrett and Louise Mari lead a visual feast inspired by Tate Britain’s Watercolour exhibition.

With DJs, The Winter’s Ball and late night parties found throughout the site, it is a unique and special weekend of fun, culture and entertainment. An intimate world away from reality waiting to be explored and enjoyed.
