First lineup announcement for Festibelly 2014

Reggae DJ icon David Rodigan is amongst the first names to be confirmed. For over 30 years David Rodigan has been the top dog in Britain’s reggae dance-halls. The key to his success has been an unsinkable passion for reggae music, which first took a hold of him as a schoolboy when he heard ska music in the early ’60s. His esteemed career has heard him broadcast from BBC Radio London, Capital Radio, Kiss 100 and most recently BBC Radio 2 and his weekly BBC 1Xtra show – with accolades including an MBE for his services to broadcasting, a Sony Radio Academy Gold Award and induction into the Sony Radio Academy Hall Of Fame.

Joining David Rodigan on the dub themed Saturday afternoon will be Bristol collective Jus Now and ‘Belly favourites Reggae Roast.Festibelly’s first announcement also includes hotly tipped Femme and Mighty Oaks and welcomes back raucous folk troubadours Skinny Lister and electronic-soul trio Dems.

Keen to feature artists before they break big (BastilleGhostpoet and Willie Moon have all graced the ‘Belly main stage in previous years), Festibelly tip MausiWild SmilesGinger & The Ghost and Lexy & The Kill as names you will soon hear a lot more from. Now in its sixth year, Festibelly has established itself as one of the UK’s most charming, intimate and grassroots festivals. A handful of lovingly crafted venues will play host to new and emerging musical talent alongside a kaleidoscope of theatre, comedy, fine food and interactive nonsense galore.

2014 sees the addition of a brand new bar stocked with fine festival tipples, from craft ales to decadent cocktails. A new dining experience will be offered for those wanting to get off their feet and indulge in an extravagant three course feast, prepared and hosted by some of our favourite New Forest foodie institutions, alongside culinary masterclasses and belly-rumbling bake offs. The Owlery, a space dedicated to wee Festi-critters, returns bigger and better in 2014 ensuring the future festi-goers are well looked after throughout the weekend.

On top of the festival’s two days and nights, Sunday morning will see the festival spring back to life for a final few hours before the journey home. A welcome distraction from that sore head will come in the form of a Great British Brunch, a New Forest farmers market, kids fancy dress finale, and most importantly the chance to put your feet up with a paper.

Smoked and Uncut Festival details

2014 sees Smoked & Uncut enter its third year.  This series of single-day music festivals in the grounds of beautiful country hotels attracts music enthusiasts from far and wide.  With the 2014 openings of THE PIG-near Bath and THE PIG-on the beach, Smoked & Uncut is now bigger and better than ever.

First up in June, THE PIG, Brockenhurst will host New Forest locals – Natives. Next, at sister hotel Lime Wood, are festival-circuit legends Nizlopi. For the inaugural PIG-on the Beach festival, the headliners are soulful pop-rock fourpiece The Milk. Lastly, wrapping up the series at THE PIG-near Bath, are indie-rock collective Raglans.

The original PIG is nestled in the New Forest between Beaulieu and Brockenhurst and is the venue for the opening Smoked & Uncut.  Along with Natives, it will also play host to Piney Gir, Bird To Beast and Eliza Shaddad, among others.

Lime Wood, a mere five miles from THE PIG, Brockenhurst, hosts the second installment. The fun happens in the hotel's green and lush gardens, making this festival feel like a glorified gathering of friends, with superb music from Matthew & Me, Bird Courage and Kate Daisy Grant & Nick Pynn and more!

THE PIG-on the beach’s Smoked & Uncut will be a festival like no other. Just off Studland Bay in Dorset, with the sound of the sea from the beach below, there will be wonderful support from New Street Adventure, Bristol Afrobeat and Kit Rice, with more to be confirmed.

THE PIG-near Bath closes this year’s Smoked & Uncut with a headline performance from one of the scene’s hottest bands of the moment in Raglans. They’ve also managed to cram Sudden Death Stars, Sienna and Eyes For Gertrude into the sensational line up.

Each festival has a maximum number of only 500 tickets, making these exciting festivals small and nicely intimate. At only £25 per person and, judging by previous years, these tickets won’t be available for long…

Throughout the day there will be a number of delicious food stalls to choose from: plenty of Piggy-style plates, plus a Chase vodka summer cocktail stall. There will also be a bar for those all-important drinks on the (fingers crossed) hot summer days.

Introducing Greenwich Music Time

This August sees the launch of Greenwich Music Time, the first event of its kind ever to be hosted at the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) at the heart of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Taking place across this summer’s August Bank Holiday weekend, the event will feature a unique series of concerts which will transform this breathtaking riverside locationinto the ultimate open-air concert venue.

Running in association with the ORNC Foundation, Greenwich Music Time will present four nights of world class concerts featuring visionary electropop outfit Goldfrapp, who will perform songs from their illustrious back catalogue, as well as from 2013’s acclaimed Tales Of Us. A major coup for the festival, this will be the duo’s only London show of 2014. Multi-million-selling English tenor Russell Watson will headline on Friday 22nd backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and featuring some very special guests, and drawing the festival to a close on Saturday 23rd is local boy Jools Holland, who brings his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra to Greenwich for a set that will feature special guest singers Marc Almond and Melanie C.

Alison Goldfrapp: “We can't wait to perform at the Greenwich Music Time Festival this summer. We'll be playing a selection of old and new songs in the stunning & beautiful grounds of the Old Royal Naval College. It’s our only London show this year so we look forward to seeing you there!”

In what is a truly stunning location, Greenwich Music Time’s stage will be situated in the heart of Sir Christopher Wren’s iconic twin-domed riverside masterpiece providing 5000 revellers a night with the opportunity to experience Greenwich’s unique historic landscape from an incredible perspective. With over 1.7 million annual visits, the ORNC is one of the most visited attractions in the UK and has provided the backdrop for countless movies including recent blockbusters Les Misérables, Skyfall and The King’s Speech.

The concert series will also showcase Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, with its students and recent graduates performing an opening set each night before the headline show. Based at the ORNC, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is the UK's only conservatoire of music and dance. Its innovative course provision, exciting performances and groundbreaking education, community and social inclusion work make Trinity Laban a leader in the advancement of elite and creative artistic practice.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson: "Greenwich Music Time will add to the unbeatable variety of great music events that London hosts throughout the year. Amidst the historic surroundings of the Old Royal Naval College, it promises to be a summertime treat and will be another reason to visit this increasingly exciting part of the capital. I am a passionate believer in high quality music education and opportunities for young musicians to play live, so I am delighted that Trinity Laban, who we are working with on one of our key education projects, are also involved."

Brendan McCarthy, CEO of the ORNC Foundation: “We are delighted to welcome the inaugural Greenwich Music Festival to the Old Royal Naval College this summer. Sir Christopher Wren’s architecture will provide a stunning backdrop for the concerts. We are particularly pleased that musicians from Trinity Laban, one of our site partners here at the ORNC, will be performing along with the great artists lined up for the Festival,” adds McCarthy. “It promises to be a fantastic four days of music.”

Set amongst one of the most important groups of historic buildings in London, and with a refreshingly eclectic programme, Greenwich Music Time is one of the most significant additions to the live music calendar for some time, providing music fans with a unique cultural experience while raising awareness and public support for the work started by the ORNC Foundation in 1997.

There is a priority booking period for local residents which will run from February 26th – 2nd March 2014. Seewww.greenwichmusictime/local for details. Tickets go on general sale from March 3rd 2014. An optional £2 donation to the ORNC Foundation will be applied to each ticket.

Action Bronson joins the Beacons Festival 2014 lineup

The festival news items continue to roll in as the Summer Festival Guide can now announce the special guests for this years Beacons Festival.

Beacons Festival are very pleased to reveal the special guests for 2014. Action Bronson will be joining headliners Darkside, Daughter,Jon Hopkins and The Fall. Other great acts added to the line-up include the slick R&B XXYYXX, Dam-Funk (part of the revered Stones Throw gang and Greg Wilson. Predictability is never a threat.

Even more artists added to Sonisphere UK lineup

As one of the UK's premier festival guide websites, we can report on the latest lineup additions for this years Sonisphere UK at Knebworth which include Bohemia, Atari Teenage Riot, Bo Ningen, Trash Talk, Canterbury, Lostalone, Bleed From Within, Dregen, TRC, Beastmilk and more!

After their late night trip down memory lane in 2010, million selling power trio Therapy?return to BOHEMIA, this time to perform their 1995 classic “Infernal Love”. Featuring chart topping hits such as “Stories”, “Loose” and “Diane”, “Infernal Love” went crashing into the top ten on its release. Now it comes alive again at SONISPHERE as Andy Cairns and co headline BOHEMIA’s Sunday. Says the man himself:

"Delighted to have been asked back to Sonisphere UK to perform "Infernal Love" in its entirety. Our "Troublegum" show there back in
2010 was a special night indeed and we are very much looking forward to playing our 1995 fan favourite at the UK’s premier rock festival. See you all July 6th on the Bohemia stage!"

It is with immense pride that SONISPHERE welcomes ATARI TEENAGE RIOT to the 2014 line up, for their first UK festival appearance since 2010. True pioneers, Alec Empire and crew have been spreading their message of political radicalism with mindblowing musical hybrids since 1992, blending everything from speed metal, acid and jungle with their techno base. So eclectic is their output, they have toured comfortably alongside Wu-Tang Clan, RATM, NIN, Ministry, Moby and Beck to name but a few, and will no doubt go down a storm amongst the veritable musical banquet on offer at Knebworth this July.

Despite being born in four separate cities in Japan, the members of BO NINGEN met and formed their band in the capital of England. Abandoning any conventional ideas of structure, the London-based four piece are lending a new definition to the word psychedelic, ignoring all the rules and doing things the BO NINGEN way. Given their proud unpredictability, setting expectations for their set in BOHEMIA would be redundant, save to say it is not to be missed.

Thrash-punk juggernaut TRASH TALK have a reputation for putting on highly energetic and wildly chaotic shows, making them a more than welcome addition to this year’s line up. Blending furious hardcore with the speediest of metal, their ceaseless touring across the world, from the US to Europe, Australia and Japan, has made them a formidable live act who never fail to deliver their loud, ugly goods.

Farnham four piece CANTERBURY make their SONISPHERE debut this year. Armed with huge songs and even bigger choruses, this promising young band have graced stages with The Automatic, Enter Shikari, Against Me, Twin Atlantic, You Me At Six and many more. Having released third album “Dark Days” earlier this year via the iconic Hassle Records label,CANTERBURY are on a sure and steady rise to the top.

Despite currently undergoing a headline tour of clubs in the UK, Rock-Pop trioLOSTALONE make songs destined for stadiums, and their increasingly rapid trajectory suggests that it won’t be too long before the prophecy made by the likes of Kerrang!, Classic Rock, NME and Rock Sound to name but a few comes to pass. Make sure you catch their set at BOHEMIA on the Friday and see why LOSTALONE’s live show earnt the fullKKKKK mark in this week’s Kerrang! Magazine.

"To be able to say that we're playing Sonisphere festival is one of the most perfectly beautiful sentences I'll ever speak.” Enthuses frontman Steven Battelle. “Knebworth being the scene of Freddie Mercury's last ever performance with Queen is a spiritual home for true rock fans. To join a bill with Metallica, The Prodigy and IRON MAIDEN is a privilege. We intend to construct our own little piece of history."

Glasgow’s BLEED FROM WITHIN are ready to show the world what a world class metal band sounds like in 2014 and SONISPHERE is delighted to give them the opportunity to do just that. Last year’s “Uprising” is an utterly monstrous piece of work, stuffed to the gills with infectious hooks, killer riffs and moments of atmospheric and dynamic euphoria. Add to that an aggression only the streets of Glasgow can breed and you have the recipe for a gloriously punishing performance at Knebworth.

Hellacopters and Backyard Babies co-founder DREGEN brings his solo project toSONISPHERE this year. Released last September, “Dregen” is the Swedish star’s modern take on an era when decadence and glamour weren’t dirty words, when heels and musicians were generally high and the commercial and the credible could sit side by side. He tells us:

"I'm really excited to play Sonisphere as this will be my first UK festival as a solo-artist! The UK tour I did in December was a lot of fun so I can't wait to get back to wake the Brits up, Swedish style, on the very last day of the Festival, Sunday July 6th."

Blending hardcore, metal and UK grime, TRC are one of a kind and a more than welcome addition to the SONISPHERE line up. Notorious for their dangerous live shows and outspoken nature, famous for their imaginative music that perfectly encapsulates the concrete jungle of inner city London that houses them, and with amazing videos that rely on imagination and creativity rather than big budgets, TRC are the real deal. Says frontman Chris Robson:

"Absolutely honoured to be playing Sonisphere. It's the first time we're getting a chance to play tracks off of Nation to such a large audience, and they were written for this kind of environment. I am well up for causing some havoc on the day and hopefully winning over some new fans. I'm also up for a bit of Slayer."

Apocalyptic post punks BEASTMILK have been described in many different ways, from “a gloomier Joy Division, an angrier Echo & The Bunnymen, a medicated Killing Joke” to “a secret recording from a psychedelic mass located stylistically between Roky Erickson, early Misfits and The Devils Blood”, with many other names dropped in between. The one thing everyone DOES seem to agree on is that BEASTMILK are awesome, and with Team Sonisphere concurring, a slot at KNEBWORTH seemed the right thing to do.

“We're honoured and privileged to be playing Sonisphere with such greats as Metallica. We're really looking forward to giving the crowd a glimpse back to Metallica's punk influences, throwing up a dose of our apocalyptic death rock and make some of those head bangers dance”

MALEFICE have being punching, kicking, choking and headbutting their way through the UK metal scene since the release of critically acclaimed debut “Entities” in 2007. Brutal, belligerent, bold and undeniably British, MALEFICE have never been about compromise, doing exactly what they felt was right for them, ignoring trends, fashions, and anything else that takes away from their backbone – the music. A very welcome addition to this year’s line up, brace yourselves as the furious five piece tear you a new one.

“We're really fucking proud to be playing this year!” says frontman Dale Butler. “With a new record out this year you can guarantee we'll be showcasing new material so be sure you come and party with us.”

Last up is Brighton four piece GLASS CITY VICE. These unsigned alt-rockers take their influences from bands such as Manchester Orchestra, Brand New and Biffy Clyro. Having made a name for themselves gigging the local scene and releasing a series of EPs, GLASS CITY VICE step up for their first major festival performance at SONISPHERE.

The War On Drugs, The Waterboys and more added to Green Man Festival lineup

The Summer Festival Guide can announce the latest additions to this years Green Man Festival lineup which includes The War On Drugs, The Waterboys and Neko Case.

Philadelphia indie rockers The War On Drugs have made arguably the record of the year with their third album, Lost In The Dream. It’s a tense and epic road trip through classic Americana that echoes the likes of Dylan, Springsteen and Arcade Fire. We can’t wait to see them headline the Far Out stage on Saturday night.

A ticket for #GreenMan14 also now gets you…

Celt-rock legends Mike Scott and The Waterboys who headline the Thursday night; Grammy-nominated alt-folk from Neko Case and psychedelic experimentalism from Panda Bear (also from Green Man 2009 headliner’s Animal Collective).

The Cribs set to headline LeeFest 2014

De La Soul, Imelda May and more added to Love Supreme Festival

A host of high profile acts have been added to the line-up for Jazz FM’s Love Supreme Jazz Festival including alternative hip hop pioneers De La Soul, who will play songs from their illustrious 25-year career as a full 10 piece live band, Irish rockabilly star Imelda May, showcasing music from her brand new album Tribal, and acid jazz legends Incognito, who will play a hit laden set to mark their 35th anniversary.

With a world-class programme that already boasts the likes of multi-million-selling Grammy and Golden Globe winner Jamie Cullum, double Brit Award nominee Laura Mvula, a special 25th anniversary show from legendary R&B outfit Soul II Soul, and man of the moment, the Grammy-winning Gregory Porter, the acclaimed 3-day event is standing out from the crowd with a uniquely varied selection of music from an incredible array of international stars.

Other additions to the bill include a string of highly regarded vocalists including the prodigious Nikki Yanofsky, who headlined the Montreal Jazz Festival when she was just 12 years old; James Tormé, Jazz FM presenter and son of legendary jazz singer Mel Tormé; and the MOBO-nominated Natalie Williams, who will be performing with both her jazz quartet and wildly popular Soul Family band.
