However, here at Camp Bestival HQ, we know that you discerning lot are also very fond of flexing your mind muscles and so we are thrilled to be presenting the latest news from our fantastically diverse programme of talks, discussions and spoken word offerings.

First up, we are bursting with excitement to announce one of the most prestigious live interviews we have ever had the honour to present at Camp Bestival… the legendary Nile Rodgers! He has very kindly agreed to treat us to a pre-gig live chat, complete with a meet and greet and a book signing! Nile will be sharing tales from his extraordinary life within the heart of the music scene and showing us how he created the sounds that defined the disco revolution. Totally unmissable.

Continuing our exclusive series of How To interviews in the East Lulworth Literary Institute tent, we are also delighted that one of our favourite actors Mathew Horne will be joining us to tell us How To Be A Little Bit Funny! And we’ll be hearing from BBC2’s award-winning food writer Stefan Gates, who will be sharing his tales and adventures from Cooking in the Danger Zone

Now, anyone out there who has kids (and we’re guessing that’s a lot of you!) will know how hard it can be sifting through the mountains of ‘advice’ about parenting. So you’ll be pleased to hear about Professor Tanya Bryon’s refreshing approach,How to Parent Your Own Way, helping you parent in a way that suits your own needs and your own kids.

For all you budding gardeners out there, the pioneering Richard Reynolds will be passing on his experience and expertise on How To Be A Guerrilla Gardener. And if you’re looking for love at Camp Bestival then drop into the Crap Dates Workshop with Rhodri Marsden to get some tips (and warnings!).

Jimmy Carr, Justin Robinson and more added to Camp Bestival 2012

Following last week’s mega Camp Bestival announcement featuring Hot Chip, Kool & The Gang, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, The Young British Foodies, Mr Tumble and more festi-holiday brilliance than you can shake a stick at, we are very pleased to be able to announce our comedy headliner for 2012 and even more ace live acts and DJs.

Rob da Bank says: 'Comedy and comedians are a huge draw at Camp Bestival and we've had most of the bigguns down there but none so mammoth as our very special guest for this year… Mr Jimmy Carr! Well pleased that Jimmy’s going to be making us wet our pants (and nappies) with laughter on the Sunday of Camp B. Music-wise we're delighted Rolf Harris will join the fun with his wobble board and didgeridoo as well as King Creosote and Jon Hopkins and legendary drum and bass DJ LTJ Bukem alongside new talent Lianne La Havas, Ren Harvieu and Netsky'.

That’s right, strap up your sides because one of the best comedians currently on the stand up circuit, Perrier Award Winner Jimmy Carr, will be headlining our comedy line-up with a crowning appearance on Sunday evening.  A deadpan  quip machine the likes of which has rarely been seen, Jimmy cemented his fame as the presenter of 8 Out of 10 Cats and the 10 O’Clock Show but his live set is renowned for his quick fire style and ever so risqué gags making him a definite must-see at this year’s Camp Bestival.

We are also deeply honoured to be able to announce that a very special guest, the legendary Rolf Harris, will be joining us at Lulworth Castle this July! The term legend gets bandied about by all and sundry but when it comes to Rolf it's completely on the money, he really is a living legend. A complete smash hit when he played Bestival, we can't wait for him to wow Camp Bestival with his amazing didgeridoo and wobble board-powered sing-alongs that are sure to get the Castle stage crowd jumping for joy!

Other new acts joining the bill include from King Creosote and Jon Hopkins who were nominated for the Mercury Prize for their sublime Diamond Mine long player and if their Bestival set is anything to go by Fence Collective founder King Creosote and sometime Brian Eno collaborator Jon Hopkins will captivate the crowd with ease. There will also be live appearances from BBC Sound of 2012 shortlist tip Lianne La Havas whose soul vibrations have won her an army of influential admirers, Belgian drum n basser Netsky who will be imparting his love of liquid funk, another BBC Sound of 2012 candidate Ren Harvieu whose voice needs to be heard to be believed and a very welcome return visit from another Fence Collective stalwart James Yorkston

We’ve got even more DJs on board to ensure the Jurassic coastline is jumping during Camp Bestival weekend including one of the dons of drum n bass LTJ Bukem and erstwhile Lionrock and Revtone kingpin Justin Robertson. Plus there will be leftfield disco love fromSoft Rocks and reggae mash-up madness from Nice Up’s own DJ Shepdog.

And don’t forget everyone who gets their tickets before February 8th will be entered into our spectacular Camp Bestival Tombola with 100 festi-tastic prizes to be won from a Luxury Furnished Tipi in our Boutique Campsite to lots of Sunday Best goodie bags – click here for more information: www.campbestival.net/#/news/early-bird-tickets-the-camp-bestival-tombola-100-festi-tastic-prizes-to-be-won

The first Persil Pass on the Love Picnic at Camp Bestival is a storming success

Jo WhileyDJ and mum-of-four Jo Whiley hosted the first ‘Persil Pass on the Love Picnic’ at Camp Bestival on the weekend. Mums and kids were encouraged to hold a picnic and bring newly washed soft toys for another child to love – for fun family picnic ideas and more visit www.netmums.com/persilpassonthelove
  • The traditional teddy bears picnic is set for a refresh this year thanks to Jo Whiley and Persil 2in1 with Comfort
  • We all know that kids quickly grow out of their teddies, so rather than throw them away, Jo is encouraging mums to bring their old (but clean!) soft toys and then pass them on for another child to love – either by swapping with a friend or donating them to charity partner Oxfam who will sell them on
Festival-lover Jo Whiley says “As a mum, I know how difficult it can be to find family activities over the summer, which is why I think the fresh take on once-retro teddy bear’s picnics is such an inspiring idea. Toys will not only be given a new lease of life but with Oxfam, they can be passed on for other children to enjoy. Please host your own ‘Persil Pass on the Love’ picnic with friends and family this summer and let us know how you get on!”

Camp Bestival – Dick and Dom to host main stage

There will be headline performances from BlondieMark Ronson and the Business INTL and Primal Scream and must—see sets from the likes of Laura Marling, House of Pain, ABC, Katy B, Beardyman, Ed Sheeran andThe Cuban Brothers.

Gearing up for another magical Camp Bestival weekend Rob da Bank said: “Whoop whoop it’s the sound of Camp Bestival! Three flipping weeks to go and I’m getting extremely excited. From Blondie and Screamadelica to underground restaurants, a sports park to whizz up and down on and, of course, our old chum Mr. Tumble, this is without a doubt our most psychedelic line-up yet. Who else could we add as the cherry on top but Dick and Dom, the funniest men in showbiz (if you’re about 8!)… The boys will be hosting the main stage on Saturday and generally larking about. Last chance for tickets so step up quick.”

In what can only be described as a proper coup, we’re ecstatic to announce that the incredible Dick and Dom will be hosting the main stage at Camp Bestival on Saturday 30th July! One of the greatest double acts to grace kids TV in the past decade, Dick and Dom In Da Bungalow is a stone cold classic that was enjoyed by kids of all ages and with their latest venture Dick and Dom’s Funny Business bringing them back to their rightful place on Saturday morning TV, there couldn’t be a better time for the dynamic duo to come to our festi-holiday paradise.

Persil Pass on the Love Picnic @ Camp Bestival

Jo WhileyWill you go down to the woods today? Or are memories of teddy bear picnics as distant as Stylophones, Space Hoppers and Rubik’s cubes? Well, happily the traditional teddy bears picnic is set for a refresh this year thanks to Jo Whiley and Persil 2in1 with Comfort.

This summer sees the launch of ‘Persil Pass on the Love’ picnics, where mums and their little ones are encouraged to get together with friends, bring along their once-loved-but-now-forgotten teddies  - newly washed – and swap them with other children to be cherished again!

We all know that kids quickly grow out of their teddies, so rather than throw them away, Jo is encouraging mums bring their old (but clean!) soft toys and then pass them on for another child to love – either by swapping with a friend or donating them to charity partner Oxfam.

To launch the campaign, Jo will be holding the first ever ‘Persil Pass on the Love Picnic’ at Camp Bestival on Saturday 30th July, providing a fun activity to keep the kids happy before the music gets started! At the award-winning kid-friendly festival, families will be able to see the DJ and TV Presenter take part, swap their newly-washed soft toys and join in on the first of this summer’s picnics.

Persil 2in1 with Comfort liquid detergent leaves laundry so soft that it can be used on even the most precious items, so that well-loved teddies stay clean, irresistibly soft, smelling gorgeous – and ready to attend a picnic!

For your chance to win a family ticket to the first ever ‘Persil Pass on the Love Picnic’ at Camp Bestival visit www.persil.co.uk/kids-activities/pass-on-the-love. Alternatively from July 25th hold your very own picnic by getting an exclusive Persil picnic pack at www.netmums.com/persilpassonthelove. Rob da Bank says: ‘Another ludicrously varied and tasty announcement to get your teeth into…literally, as we announce some of the hottest chefs and festival food coming to Camp Bestival plus a mega comedy line-up headed up by Jack Whitehall. Easy Star All Stars are one of my favourite festival acts with their reggae versions of Radiohead and Pink Floyd and will be joining us at Camp and perhaps most excitingly for the young at heart Shrek is comin’ to Dorset. Yee-haa!’

jack whitehallAs ever we have a cavalcade of high time hilarity in store at Camp Bestival with a side-splitting collection of the best comics on the circuit. I really want to see Beardyman, the things that he can do with his mouth are amazing! He is by far one of the best live acts around! Hopefully after you have seen as much comedy as you can muster, join me at the front of Beardyman for a mosh.’

Joining Jack on the comedy bill will be former Best Newcomer Perrier Award winner and Britain’s funniest Milton, Milton Jones whose recent 2011 show, The Lion Whisperer, sold out across the country, Argumental team captain and Radio 4 stalwart Marcus Brigstocke, Andrew Maxwell, who is no stranger to the Camp Bestival crowd, Canada’s Craig Campbellwho wowed crowds supporting former Camp Bestival comedy headliner Frankie Boyle on tour last year and erstwhile Cyderdelic eco-warrior Barry Castagnola. Camp Bestival never comes up short when it comes offering superb sustenance whatever your mood but this year we have some very special new additions to our vast array of gorgeous grub including Kerstin Rodgers’ The Underground Restaurant.  A super cool, supper club – brought to you by the foodie’s foodie and ex-NME photographer, Kerstin Rodgers – The Underground Restaurant will offer a set menu of unusual but hearty cookery for three sittings a day – lunch, dinner and a midnight feast – all served up with vintage mismatched crockery, glassware and table linen by waitresses in vintage French pinnies. The ‘Queen of Baked Goods’ and cake-maker to the stars, Lily Vanilli will be whipping up a very special recipe this year.  All Camp Bestival kids have the chance to design their very own Medieval cake and Lily will transform the winning idea into a giant, spectacular cake. Everyone who enters a drawing of their design into the competition will be invited to a special tea party on Sunday afternoon where the cake masterpiece will be revealed and you’ll get to try a slice!

Lily says: ‘I can’t wait to see all the Medieval cake designs from you guys – you can even tell me what sort of flavours you would like to taste and I’ll add them to the mix!’

Cake designs, along with your full contact details so we can invite you to the party, should be sent to the Bestival Office – Address: Lily Vanilli Cake Competition, Camp Bestival, 25 Denmark Street, London, WC2H 8NJ - before the end of June, so Lily can choose the best one. Primal Scream to headline Sunday Camp Bestival 2011

Rob da Bank says: “Screamadelica is undoubtedly in my top 5 albums of all time. It came out just as i was launching myself into raveland, soundtracked so many late nights and early mornings and is at heart one of the best combinations of dance, soul and rock n roll ever. Screamadelica and Primal Scream have stood the test of time better than most and I can’t wait for Camp Bestival-goers old and young to hear it either again or for the first time. Come together!”

One of the greatest albums to have emerged during the heady days of the 1990s, ‘Screamadelica’ is effortlessly timeless, so we’re truly ecstatic to announce that Primal Scream will be joining us at Camp Bestival headlining the Sunday night playing their seminal album in its entirety. From the sublime ‘Movin’ On Up’, through the blissful bass of ‘Don’t Fight It Feel It’ and the euphoric ‘Come Together’, Primal Scream presents Screamadelica is a cast-iron guarantee for an epic last night at Camp Bestival. But that’s not all because Bobby Gillespie and co have also agreed to perform their greatest hits too, making for a truly unmissable Sunday headline set!

We’ve already announced that the sensational English National Ballet will be joining us at Camp Bestival exclusively this year but we’ve got even more exciting news from them, as on Sunday afternoon we want everyone to go ball(et)istic in the Castle field when English National Ballet will get you plie-ing and pirouetting en masse in our first Camp Bestival Ballet Flashmob! With Rob da Bank on decks and English National Ballet showing you the moves, this is ballet fun on a grand scale. Don’t forget your legwarmers!

More melodious merriment throughout the weekend comes courtesy of BRIT nominated finger picking tour de force Newton Faulkner. With his purist’s love of music and a burning desire to share his songs with people, Newton will be playing the penultimate set in the Big Top on Saturday night. Hotly tipped fellow singer-songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich also joins the throng to wow the crowd with his diaphanous harmonies and enchanting guitar playing, while tongue in cheek country & western concerns are addressed by Clint Westwood who will be on hand with tales of round ups, rustlers and the 7.36 from Victoria.

BBC Sound of 2011 nominees Nero are set to take Camp Bestival even higher with their euphoric dubstep vibes. Weaving elements of old school house and trance into their low frequency oscillations Nero will blast the late night crowd into submission. Electro governor Doorly will be unleashing his dumbfounding deck manoeuvres cutting searing riffs and bass-quaking beats all with lashings of his trademark relentless energy. And the White Wedding crew will be making the trip to the Jurassic coast supplying classic tunes to fuel all the choas of the best wedding you’ve never been to including first dances, confetti-hurling, mother-in-law hats, bouquet tossing and more bad dad-dancing than you can handle.

Once again the East Lulworth Literary Institute will provide a wealth of erudite entertainment for you to lose yourself in, whiling away the hours listening to an array of fascinating musings, talks and literary offerings. The How To interview sessions will give you an insight in how to do loads of good stuff, with some well-known faces in our inspirational array of live and exclusive interview sessions. Confirmed talks include How to Make A Meal of It with Gizzi Erskine , the fabulous food writer, chef and presenter of Channel 4’s ‘Cook Yourself Thin’ will give us a host of tips on how to cook delicious grub for family and friends  sustainably and cheaply. Known as the ‘Damien Hirst of horticulture’ How to be a Gardener with Diarmund Gavin will see the revolutionary gardener share his best herbaceous tips and tricks about how to make your garden gorgeous. Renowned graphic designer Vaughan Oliver - famed for his 4AD connections, as well as his recent designs for David Lynch’s ‘Good Day Today’ on Sunday Best – will be giving insights into How To Design A Record Sleeve. The East Lulworth Literary Institute will also host a series of author readings from Marcus Brigstocke, Jon Ronson, Sam Leith, Simon Day, Joe Dunthorne, David Whitehouse and Laura Dockrill.

Some of the delights in the Dingly Dell this year will include Bane and Bane 2 featuring one man, 79 characters and a virtuoso live guitar soundtrack. Hired hand Bruce Bane works the mean streets of pulp fiction. As he goes about his shadowy business down back alleys and eerie sidewalks, he shoots from the hip and asks questions later. Inspired by hard-boiled detective stories, classic film noir and mainstream cinema, Bane and Bane 2 are hilarious one-man genre parodies. Bane 2 picked up a Fringe Guru Editors Choice award at Edinburgh Festival and has just been nominate for the London Festival Fringe Best Play award!

After their outstanding performance of La Boheme last year, OperaUpClose returns with ‘Wretched Bliss‘ a dark comedy about a corrosive relationship. Wretched Bliss shrugs off the operatic clichés – no innocent victims, no suicidal heroines, no silly costumes – it’s just a snapshot of life as we’ve all experienced it. With fantastic music and performances, Wretched Bliss is unlike any other contemporary opera around today.

Anyone looking for a an hour or so of chilled entertainment could do worse than catching one of six Classic Album Sundays performances: A Communal and Audiophile Listening Experience Classic Album Sundays is where music fans gather to fully listen to a classic album in its entirety on a Class A audiophile system. It elevates the listening experience to greater heights and takes the listener as close to the studio recording of the album as possible. Most people will never get the opportunity to experience music this way, never mind a generation brought up on low quality MP3s and headphones. Albums being played in their entirety will include Massive Attack’s ‘Blue Lines’, Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’, Primal Scream’s ‘Screamadelica’, Kate Bush’s ‘Hounds of Love’ and an as yet to be decided album as voted for by you, more details on how you can cast your vote soon.
