Damon Albarn is the musical superman of the 21st century, though perhaps it is not that noticeable. The reason for the description is probable his high productivity. The Brit does so much that it is hard to keep up: rock, opera, African music… It is always interesting and cool. Plus: Albarn is getting better as the years go by. He is known first and foremost as the frontman of Blur, the group which staged such a fantastic performance at Werchter last year. And he has already been here with The Good, The Bad and The Queen. His greatest commercial successes have been achieved with Gorillaz. The second album “Demon Days” (2005) has been doing well on both sides of the Atlantic. After more than 20 years in the frontline, Albarn is now releasing a first album under his own name. “Everyday Robots” (2014), he says, is a mix of folk and soul. Superman goes solo. Damon Albarn will headline KluB C on Thursday 3 July.

Officially kicking off the UK Festival season, Live At Leeds is the first to bring you the bands that are going to break in 2014. The festival has established a peerless reputation for picking the most exciting new artists who are just on the cusp of great things and programming them across Leeds for one joyous musical weekend.
More established acts compliment these bright young things as they unite for three days of musical mayhem with over 150 bands performing in over 20 stages across the city including the legendary Cockpit who will this year celebrate their 20thbirthday!
The lineup itself is as strong as ever and packed full of the UK’s hottest acts across multiple genres, BBC Sound Of 2014 Poll runner up Ella Eyre leads the charge with her soulful Pop/R&B along with fellow Sound Of Poll finalist Chlöe Howl. Joining her on the lineup are the UK’s current #1 singles artist Clean Bandit whose unique mix of modern dance music and live string instrumentation has marked them out as a key cross over act for 2014. The sardonic wit of Detroit hip-hop nativeLizzo and the ever arresting and constantly progressive electronic duo Fuck Buttons will also make highly anticipated appearances.
Indie fans need look no further than indie legend and The Strokes guitar hero Albert Hammond Jr. As well as this we have the addition of Pitchfork championed, jangly Welsh indie-pop sextet Los Campesinos! to the line-up as well as the ferocious, grungy pop songs of NME 2014 hopefuls Wolf Alice and Yuck’s Dinosaur Jr and Pavement influenced brand of fuzzy indie-rock.
Rock fans will also rejoice at the inclusion of Leeds’ noisiest sons and prime UK rock exports the chart- bothering Pulled Apart By Horses as well as fellow locals, the captivating I Like Trains.
As well as this the weekend features a separate set of eclectic, stand alone ‘Live At Leeds presents’ shows featuring Brighton’s alternative duo Blood Red Shoes, Dublin based 2013 breakthrough rockers Kodaline and post-metal titansNeurosis respectively.

Primavera Sound has just revealed the full line up of its fourteenth edition, distributed from Monday 26th May to Sunday 1st June, through their film “Line-Up”, that has just been released in cinemas and on Internet, having already announced the presence of the Canadian band Arcade Fire, Neutral Milk Hotel’s stage comeback and Frank Black’s band, Pixies. The latter are now joined by an extensive list of artists who will play on the multiple stages of the Parc del Fòrum from 29th to 31st May. Among all of these newly confirmed names Trent Reznor’s band Nine Inch Nails, the American band The National, the mythical desert rock formation Queens of the Stone Age, Justin Vernon’s new project (with Bon Iver) Volcano Choir, the Californian rapper Kendrick Lamar and the legendary and influential Brazilian singer songwriter Caetano Veloso really stand out.
The first festival shows for newly reformed British band Slowdive, house from the British band Disclosure, Television from New York playing their greatest album “Marquee Moon", math-pop from the powerful Foals, the presentation of the Scottish band Mogwai’s new album, electro pop from the highly successful Metronomy and Darkside, Nicolas Jaar’s new project, all join the line up of the Barcelona event.
A large number of the participants at this edition will be visiting Spain for the first time. This is the case for the hidden gem of feminine folk Linda Perhacs, The Julie Ruin (new band of Kathleen Hanna, former Bikini Kill member), the explosive cult band Chrome, the loud British band Loop and Body/Head, Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon’s new project.
Other cutting edge artists will come to Primavera Sound to present their most recent albums: From Australia Cut Copy and their dance pop, the funny and outrageous Black Lips, the British genius Blood Orange, regenerator of the most contemporary black music, the 90s rock veterans Superchunk, Drive-By Truckers and their classical rock and dance floor funk from the Duo Chromeo.
A multitude of musical styles will fill the stages of the Barcelona event: afrobeat by Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 and the New Yorkers Antibalas, cosmic jazz from Sun Ra Arkestra, post rock from The Canadians Godspeed You! Black Emperor, metal by Kvelertak and Deafheaven, noise from Wolf Eyes, the stunning electro pop of Helen Love, neo classical music by A Winged Victory For The Sullen and soul from Charles Bradley.
The national section is headed by Standstill who will perform their spectacle Cénit, the Granada band Grupo de Expertos Solynieve and the presentation of the Barcelona band Mishima’s new album, the consecration of El Petit De Cal Eril as one of the most robust groups in our country, the alliance between Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Raül Fernández Miró, the revelations of 2013 León Benavente and El Último Vecino, the Catalan singer songwriter Joana Serrat presenting her new album, the analogical-electro duo Svper and Oso Leone from Mallorca.
As for the electronic music programme, it will be headed by the world famous French DJ Laurent Garnier, who will be followed by a long and varied list of artists: the Germans Moderat (the union of Modeselektor and Apparat), the deep rhythms of SBTRKT, the revelation of electronic dance music Daniel Avery, Jamie xx from the UK (member of The xx), from Madrid comes Pional, Lasers from Barcelona with their impeccable live show, house by Julio Bashmore and the experimental sound of Demdike Stare and The Haxan Cloak.
Primavera a la Ciutat will flood the whole city of Barcelona with a series of complementary proposals in parallel with the main event. Among these the day of free concerts on Wednesday 28th May in the Parc del Fòrum stands out. On that day there will be concerts by Sky Ferreira, the Belgium revelation Stromae, the Argentinians Él Mató a un Policía Motorizado, the electro pop duo Holy Ghost!, the up and coming British band Temples and the Madrid band Fira Fem. During the week of the festival, clubs such as Apolo, BARTS and the Teatre Principal will host all types of performances amongst which Darren Hayman and the Trial Separation, Full Blast, Shellac, Angel Olsen, Juana Molina, Paus, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Har Mar Superstar and the showcases by the Catalan labels Bcore and La Castanya stand out. Els Vermuts del Primavera in Parc de la Ciutadella with concerts by bands such as Speedy Ortiz, Dum Dum Girls, Boogarins, The Mark Eitzel Ordeal and La Sera on the 31st May and 1st June, merit a special mention.

Friday’s Sophie stage headliners are Greek extreme metal overlords ROTTING CHRIST. Much revered, ROTTING CHRIST were one of the first black metal bands in the region, forming back in ‘87 and going on to create the genre’s Greek signature sound of the 90’s. The band are touring Japan and Thailand in early 2014, and are looking forward to headlining the Sophie stage at BLOODSTOCK, commenting “Proudly on the roster of one of Bloodiest festivals around! It will be an honour to perform for our English Metal brothers. Until then… KEEP THE TRUE METAL SPIRIT ALIVE!” Their eleventh album, ‘Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού’ is out now via Season of Mist.
Into female-fronted metal bands? Swedish metalheads SISTER SIN, led by the feisty Liv Jagrell, close out the Sophie stage on Saturday. The Gothenburg based band will be blasting out tunes from their best-selling third album, ‘Now And Forever’, which debuted on the Swedish album charts at #6, and have been honing their live chops touring with road dogs Motorhead, Otep, and Arch Enemy, among others.
Bloodstock is delighted to welcome Sunday’s Sophie headliners, the reunited classic NWOBHM shredders, SATAN. Be sure to check out their latest Listenable Records album ‘Life Sentence’. It’s been 26 years since their last release! The first headliners who confirmed their act for the 3rd edition of New Yorker Fresh Island Festival are Method Man & Redman. The legendary duo will perform on 24th of July 2014 in Croatia, at croatian fabulous Zrće Beach, where a three day festival will take place between July 23rd-25th.

Today also sees The Pretty Reckless, set to drop new album “Going to Hell” in March, join the 2014 line-up. The New York four-piece known for its swaggering grunge-pop is fronted by former Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen, who will sashay into Donington with filthy on-stage antics and filthier on-stage ensembles. The organisers of Download Festival are still awaiting the rider request for Duct tape.

The craziest genre-mutating ragga-metal party in the world, Skindred, will also be crashing ashore at Download 2014, where Donington devotees will get a first live taste of incredible new album Kill the Power which, in an outrageous twist of fate, is out today! (Monday January 27th)

South African grunge monsters Seether announced recently that they will be dropping a new album in 2014 and Download will be the UK’s first glimpse of the new material.
Adding a bit of dark wave theatricality to the line-up is gothic-metal-multimedia-storytelling-project, September Mourning, inaugurating a whole new art form into the hallowed Download canon.
Of course no Download announcement would be complete without its compliment of battle-hardened rock legends from across the pond; American Head Charge add to Donington’s already impressive Industrial roster, The Used ride in to the UK on a tsunami of soaring choruses, Joe Bonamassa will be shredding his soul-melting blues guitar for the first time at the festival, and 90’s firebrands Crazytown and Quicksand also make their Download debuts.
Another gracing Donington for the first time is classic metal supergroup Kill Devil Hillfeaturing Vinny Paul and Rex Brown of Pantera fame.
Getting even heavier, outspoken hardcore tyros Emmure and King 810 will also be raining down some good old fashioned American mayhem on Download, with Emmure’s Frankie Palmeri saying: Once again we have been invited to be a part of one of the most prestigious music festivals of all time. Showing these Download rookies the way will be sharp dressed Texan deathcore bruisers Upon A Burning Body who wowed crowds when they made their Donington debut in 2012. Fresh out the studio from recording album number 3, prepare to have your face melted when they once again take to the hallowed Donington stage.
Contrary to their name influential home grown Prog rockers Anathema will be welcomed back to Download with open arms fresh from recording their first studio album for three years in Norway, with the band looking forward to hooking up with their fellow Prog heavyweights:

Download 2014 will also play host to a wide range of the very hottest rock and metal from mainland Europe, including Dutch metal screamers and Donington rookies, The Charm, The Fury, Japanese berserkers Coldrain, Swedish power-metallers Sabaton and freewheeling Danish alt-rockers New Politics.

But Download isn’t just about being as culturally diverse as the British Museum’s Halloween Party, with local superstars of tomorrow Malevolence, Polar, Heart in Handand Lyger all appearing at this year’s festival.
Heart in Hand reflected on becoming part of a select group to make the transition from Download fan to performer: Having all been to the festival in our younger days, it's an amazing feeling for us to now be a part of the musicians making up the bill this year. Genuinely all very excited in our camp to play such a legendary festival and then enjoy the whole weekend once the pressure's off a bit!
