Electric Daisy Carnival returns for its third year to the UK in 2015

Today the world-famous dance music festival Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) announced that, for the third year in a row, it will return to the UK on Saturday 11 July, 2015.

A legendary venue, Milton Keynes Bowl provides the perfect setting for EDC UK, while the brightest stars in dance music will light up four breathtaking stages/arenas, each possessing their own unique vibe.  DJs will converge from the four corners of the world to celebrate the enduringly popular genre of techno at neonGARDEN, keeping it deep and dark from dawn to dusk. kineticFIELD presents an exciting mix of big arena electro-house artists, and circuitGROUNDS brings a seminal lineup of drum & bass pioneers who have progressively deconstructed the genre into the cutting-edge sounds and subgenres of today. At cosmicMEADOW, a stellar array of favorites has been assembled to transport Headliners straight to the stratosphere.

LINEUP SO FAR: Critically acclaimed Art Department is deep, dark and minimal. Los Angeles-based Carnage deftly fuses electro, hip-hop, pop and trap into an intoxicating brew that’s dirty, defiant, and diverse. Detroit-born Claude VonStroke, owner of Dirtybird Records and now living the life in Venice Beach, remixes everyone from Kenny Larkin to London Grammar. Cosmic Gate feed off one another’s turntable creativity to whip up a frenzied digital supernova. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have enjoyed a continuously upward trajectory from celebrated DJs to dominating figures in the electronic music industry. Dutch legend Ferry Corsten coaxes maximum emotional impact from his records, ensuring his place at the top of the electronic music Hall of Fame. Showing his masterful skills behind the decks, BBC Radio 1’s very own Friction will be mesmerizing Headliners on four decks with unreleased cuts. Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell won the DJ Mag Top 100 poll for the last two years. High Contrast will be joined by MC Wrec and Ilan Bluestone.

Jamie Jones, leader of the new sound of house, is renowned for his pioneering music, his cross-genre band Hot Natured, his groundbreaking Hot Creations label, and his world-famous event series, Paradise. In less than a decade, he has catapulted himself to stardom by shattering genres and breaking out of the confines of minimal techno. Jamie’s revolutionary sound is an instrumental part of his success, being both artistically innovative, yet easily accessible. Also appearing will be John O’Callaghan, Jordan Suckley B2B Bryan Kearney, Kove and Linguistics—as well as Marco Carola, widely regarded as one of techno’s true pioneers. From his stellar Ibiza residency each summer to his shows across the world, Carola and his Music On parties and record label have become synonymous with cutting-edge music. Markus Schulz is a regular at EDC events around the world and known affectionately by his fans as “the Unicorn Slayer.”

Matrix & Futurebound have defined a whole new era in drum & bass via their skillful fusion of epic, melodic soundscapes with heavyweight dancefloor production and original vocals. Rising star Miguel Campbell and BBC Radio 1’s Mistajam will be in attendance. The debonair Paul van Dyk—German DJ, musician, producer, Grammy winner and torch-bearer for the scene—had the longest unbroken run at #1 in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, was the first DJ ever to be voted as #1 in Mixmag, and boasts remix and production credits for the likes of U2, Depeche Mode and New Order.

This festival lineup wouldn’t be complete without drum & bass kingpins Pendulum (DJ set) with Verse. Raw and controversial, with momentous killer beats, they are not to be missed. One of the UK’s hottest new talents, Philip George, had the biggest breakout record of 2014 with “Wish You Were Mine.” PureNRG Live and Richy Ahmed will be performing live. Route 94 has quietly yet forcefully established himself as a distinctive young figure in the house music scene. For his latest album project, Cornerstone, Shy FX revisits old-school studio techniques and collaborates with a mouthwatering lineup of special guests. Drum & bass duo Sigma need little introduction; from early releases on labels such as Hospital and Viper Recordings, they have cemented themselves as an integral part of the scene. Steve Aoki head label Dim Mak, and Simon Patterson is a star of UK electro house. Sub Focus’ single releases span a plethora of electronic genres, from drum & bass and dubstep to house music and beyond. One of Holland’s most prized exports, DJ and producer Tiësto is a Grammy nominee and multiple winner of the celebrated DJ Mag poll. The band continue to reap recognition internationally, and fresh from an epic performance at SXSW, they are a hugely exciting addition to this year’s T in the Park line-up.

International chart toppers SIGMA’s early releases quickly marked them out as producers to watch, while remixes for Eric Prydz, Ellie Goulding, Stylo G and Sway began to take them to a wider audience. Their first number one single, Nobody To Love was followed up by another chart topper when their second single, Changing ft. Paloma Faith was released, and they’re sure to bring a party vibe to Strathallan Castle.

Marina & the Diamonds aka Marina Diamandis creates irresistible electro indie pop, and will make her long-awaited T in the Park debut this summer. The Welsh singer-songwriter has released her latest album Froot this month and is sure to showcase new material in her T in the Park set.

Since forming in 2002, The Cribs have won major plaudits including NME’s prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Music Award in 2013. The band return this month with a brand new album For All My Sisters, heralding an exciting new chapter in the upwards trajectory of the Jarman brothers. BigT in the Park favourites, they’re sure to go down a storm at Strathallan Castle.

Hailed “the undisputed queen of 2014” by Mixmag, Hannah Wants has validated herself as a world renowned DJ with some serious credentials. Last year alone she picked up the Best Breakthrough DJ title at the DJ Mag awards and became Mixmag’s Best Breakthrough DJ and Star Of The Year, and her set is not to be missed.

Scottish trio The Twilight Sad’s desolate, majestic and dense sound has earned them major plaudits since they formed in 2003. Their fourth studio album Nobody Wants To Be Here And Nobody Wants To Leave (released in October) was named Scottish Album of the Year by The Scotsman and Album of the Year by Drowned in Sound.

Another exciting band hot off the back of shows at SXSW, Palma Violets have been working with producer John Leckie (Radiohead, Stone Roses) on their new album Danger in the Club, due for release this May. The band recently went on the road for the NME Awards Tour and will bring their euphoric sound to T in the Park this summer.

In what’s sure to be a huge moment for band and fans alike, Prides will make T in the Parkhistory when they become the first band to play the Main Stage at the festival's new home, Strathallan Castle. Since they last appeared at Balado in 2013, they have played to a global audience at The Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony. Producing original synth-pop tracks with infectious lyrics and feel-good melodies, the Glasgow trio are sure to receive a local heroes’ when they open the Main Stage on the Friday.

Slaves aka Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman opened the NME Awards Tour’s 20th anniversary shows earlier this year. They count Arctic Monkeys amongst their many fans, and are set to make a hotly anticipated return to T in the Park after their incredible headline set on the BBC Introducing Stage last year.

Liverpudlian quartet Circa Waves are another band who dazzled crowds in Austin and who are hotly-tipped for a successful year. After making a big impression at last year’s T in the ParkCirca Waves have played sold-out shows around the country and are sure to delight fans with their energetic indie pop tracks at T in the Park in July.

Since forming in 2007, Lower Than Atlantis’ sound has evolved from hardcore punk to melodic indie rock. Their self-titled fourth record was released in October last year and was hailed album of the year by Rocksound.

Siblings Kitty, Daisy and Lewis’ musical references and skills are rooted in the old tradition where songs and music are handed down, played and enjoyed at gatherings of family and friends. They’ve built an impressive fan base and will showcase tunes from their exquisite second studio albumSmoking In Heaven.

Creating infectious rhythm and blues infused rock 'n' roll, Ireland’s The Strypes have in the past toured with the likes of Arctic Monkeys and are sure to get the T in the Park crowd rocking when they return to the festival this July.

Cambridge quintet Lonely The Brave are one of the most exciting live acts on the UK rock scene at the moment, with David Jakes’ goose-bump-inducing vocals as striking live as they are on record. They released their debut album The Day’s War to massive critical acclaim and a place at no. 14 in the UK album charts this past September.
Nottingham singer-songwriter Indiana released her critically acclaimed debut album No Romeo in February of this year. Featuring the hit single Solo Dancing, the record is a collection of moody electro pop gems.

Original party band, The LaFontaines had a belter of a year in 2014. Playing their first US headline shows, conquering Europe with Watsky and performing to a capacity crowd at T in the Park as well as headlining their biggest ever show at Glasgow’s O2 ABC. 2015 is the year they release their highly anticipated debut album ‘Class’ – produced by Matt O’Grady (You Me At Six, Don Broco, Deaf Havana), with an accompanying UK headline tour.

Bristol’s Coasts are creating a huge buzz around the UK and beyond. Recently on tour in America, their performance at this year’s T in the Park is sure to treat the crowd to a soaring performance full of indie rock tunes. Tracks including recent single Oceans have received support from the likes of Radio 1 alumni Zane Lowe and has resulted in festival slots at the likes of Coachella and Lollapalooza.

Also fresh from SXSW, Blossoms are one of Stockport’s finest musical exports. They combine psyche-pop riffs, vocal melodies, a film noir meets 60s aesthetic, a range of audible references from Arctic Monkeys via Abba to The Doors to incredible effect and are sure to be a big hit at T in the Park this July.

The start of 2014 saw Sunset Sons morph from surfers making music for fun into a band at the centre of an A&R scrum into a major label-signed, red hot tip to become arena-sized stars. Their irresistible sun-soaked pop rock anthems earned them a spot on the BBC’s Sound of 2015 longlist.

Bold, edgy, with an incredible vocal to boot, Ella Eyre’s buzz has grown exponentially. A casual songwriting session with Rudimental evolved into Ella writing two songs for their debut album, and she can be heard on the band’s Waiting All Night. Also featuring on DJ Fresh’s top 5 smash Gravity, she won the MOBO Award for Best Newcomer last year and releases her first studio album Feline in May.

The Beaches – named after the area of Toronto where they live – are proud pioneers of the new wave of fem-rock. Their sassy, saw-toothed alt-rock songs recall The Strokes, Elastica, The White Stripes, Metric and The Runaways, and they exude the kind of romantic defiance, youth rebellion and peer solidarity that makes them a formidable force for rock.

George the Poet blends poetry and rap to hypnotic effect. Having amassed more than half a million views for his poems on YouTube and Vimeo, he has brought poetry to a new generation, mixing social and political comment with humour, and featured at no.5 in the BBC’s Sound of 2015.

Fresh from a rapturous appearance at SXSW, Wolf Alice will release their debut album My Love Is Cool in June and will bring some of their rock-tinged new material to T in the Park the following month. The grungy London four-piece create a relentless sound fused with superfuzzed guitars and were named Breakthrough Act of the Year at the UK Festival Awards in December.

Walking on Cars are one of Ireland’s most exciting new acts. Signed to Virgin EMI Records, they’ve been taking their soaring rock anthems to an international audience including a packed show at SXSW earlier this month and will make their first appearance at T in the Park this July.

Songstress Lucy Rose, The Riptide Movement (who supported the Rolling Stones at their Hyde Park show in 2013), Fort Hope who combine earth shattering riffs with soaring melodies, Dublin’s boisterous rock outfit The Coronas, soulful New Orleans singer-songwriter Benjamin Booker, English rockers Young Guns, Ireland’s Choice Music Prize Award Winner for ‘Song Of The Year’Gavin James and London trio Vaults (who made a big impression when they supported Paolo Nutini on tour at the end of last year) also join the bill. As two-thirds of Manchester’s Doves, the Williams brothers Jez and Andy achieved major success with four hit albums, before forming their new band Black Rivers. They recently supported T in the Park headliners Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds on their UK tour, and will make their Strathallan Castle debut this July.

T in the Park and Slam are also delighted to confirm that Annie Mac, Claude VonStroke andMaceo Plex will play the Slam Tent this July. Annie Mac – who has recently taken over from the legendary Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 and who also plays a Main Stage set on Friday – has joined the bill for the Slam Tent on Saturday. Maceo Plex first gained popularity during the early 90s rave culture with his mixes of techno, electro, and house music, before incorporating a more funk and groove-based sound. He’s played some of the most prestigious clubs in the world such as Cocoon and Fabric, and headlines the Slam Tent at T in the Park on the Saturday night. San Francisco-based house and techno producer Claude VonStroke is another exciting addition to the Slam Tent line-up.

Skrillex and Mark Ronson lead The Port lineup at Bestival 2015

Our own king of the ones & twos Rob da Bank says: “The Port is one of our finest achievements at Bestival, with some pretty stiff competition from all the other inventive constructions that have gone down over the last 12 years. A massive ship seemingly anchored into the grass at Robin Hill complete with smoking funnels, rusty portholes and all topped off with a crazy crew of nautical nutters dancing day and night in laser beam ecstasy.

I cannot wait to see what Skrillex will pull out the bag for a Sunday finale. Sonny hasn’t been to Bestival for four years so a lot has changed for all of us, and I think The Port is gonna be very special that night. Especially because, as anyone who’s seen Mark Ronson DJ knows, they’re in for a massive treat, too – a sublime Sunday night double-header, even if I do say so myself. I love Annie Mac’s back to back extravaganza – great concept and some amazing talent, and our Friday techno and disco explosion will kick it all off nicely. All aboard for another insane party at The Port!

Making his return to Bestival, we are absolutely ecstatic to be able to announce the mighty Skrillex will be ramping up the late night action on Sunday. A trail blazer of electronic dance music, he’s a six-time Grammy award winner, and a global icon, so you can guarantee when he drops the magic, it’s gonna go off. Fierce beats and rib-smashing bass ahoy!

He might know a thing or two about ruling the pop charts but Mark Ronson has got fat beats flowing through his veins. A true master with a pair of turntables, his sets are consistently devastating, spanking dancefloors into submission worldwide. Add in a touch of HMS Bestival’s own special magic and you’re on course for some truly euphoric last night shenanigans. Not to be missed.

With Annie Mac taking the reins on Saturday showcasing a series of very special back to back rinses, and Seth Troxler large and in charge on Friday, we really could keep you dancing all weekend long. And we just might, with sets from Four Tet, Tale of Us, Guy Gerber, Jackmaster, David Rodigan MBE, Hannah Wants, Mistajam, Erol Alkan, Andrew Weatherall, Greg Wilson, Toddla T, High Contrast and London Elektricity.

We’ll also have the very welcome return of Croydon’s finest, Benga, plus Special Request, Horse Meat Disco, Monki, Mele, Wookie, Slimzee, Etherwood, Fred V & Grafix, Dynamite MC, The Heatwave, Kiwi, Low Steppa, Logan Sama, Mella Dee and Flava D.

It’s not just a dance stage, it’s a life changing experience. Make sure you get yourself to The Port this September for a blissful summer of love.

Download Festival 2015 add Pro Wrestling and more to its programme

With such a titanic line-up of bands set to hit Europe’s biggest rock and metal music festival this year it’s easy to forget that Download is also the home of some of the most varied, exhilarating, weird, wonderful and outrageous on site entertainment in the festival world.

This year’s dress-up theme is Pro-Wrestling so it is highly appropriate that additions to the programme this year include the country’s finest independent wrestlers, the mighty PROGRESS Wrestling, and the continuation of the beef between Champion Jimmy Havoc and our very own figurehead, Download Dog.

Other new on-site features include the Dog’s Bed Stage – the fully equipped open mic experience that allows YOU to follow in the footsteps of rocks pantheon by performing at Donnington, a Pop-Up Art GalleryLASER TAG – no explanation needed, the Hair of the Dog beer and real ale house, heavy metal mask making and circus skills WorkshopsKISS face painting (bring your own tongue) and speed dating hosted by Heavy Metal Dating.

And if all works out with the Heavy Metal Dating, you can practise tying the knot in Download’s Chapel of Love at the Inflatable Church. Alongside those wishing to get married (sadly not legally) there will be a host of other activities in the chapel – from the Morning Glory Rock Spandex Workout to Air Guitar Competitions and much more.

If that doesn’t get your motor revving then bear in mind that all of this insane entertainment comes to you in addition to Download favourites, The Doghouse – featuring such iconic rock club nights as Uprawr, Voodoo Rocks, Alpha, Face Down & Ultimate Power, as well as internet sensations and fast food-themedBlack Sabbath covers band Mac Sabbath – the big top Cinema, comedy and silent disco in the Side Splitter, medieval carnage courtesy of Demolition Download, and the instantly iconic Download Totem.

Away from the delirious awesomeness of the live music and the on-site entertainment Download continues to expand its amazing gastronomic offering with the likes of Goodness Gracious, Texas Smoker and Kwacker making mouths water this year, while the Seat of Luxury pass offers the cleanest, most refreshing high-tech festival toilet experience in the history of music festival toilets.

Remember that time Lord Somersby rocked Download? Well Lord Somersby has made his mark in many places, but never has he rocked out at Donington Park. This year, we are bringing his literal home, the Manor, including bar and DJ, to the spiritual home of rock. See you at the bar for a Somersby cider?

Some of rock’s biggest bands will grace the Zippo Encore stage, and the festival experience continues at the Zippo area where festival-goers can get their hands on the infamous limited edition Download Festival lighter, design their own Zippo lighters and take part in competitions to win side-of-stage experiences.

And then there’s the music…Download 2015 will be headlined by Slipknot, Muse and Kiss, with main support coming from Judas Priest, Faith No Moreand Motley Crue, with other musical beasts unleashed on the Donington faithful including Marilyn Manson, Slash, Enter Shikari, Black Veil Brides andBlack Stone Cherry.

Sugarhill Gang & The Furious Five lead latest lineup additions for Beat Herder 2015

2015, Northern England’s most cherished festival, Beat-Herder in Lancashire will celebrate their 10th birthday – a landmark anniversary that marks their journey from humble free party origins to an annual three-day 12,000 capacity bonanza with a legion of devout fans. Described by The Guardian as ‘wonderfully barmy and typically northern’, The Beat-Herder Festival is a rare find in today’s climate: a staunchly independent festival that stays true to its roots, completely shunning all corporate sponsorship or branding.

Over the last decade, Beat-Herder has come to be known for its unrivalled attention to detail when building the site. Built entirely from scratch by hand, the festival houses all manner of surprises at every twist and turn. Each year unexpected new areas magically appear for festival-goers to stumble upon. Last year’s new additions included a swimming pool in the woods, housed in a Scandinavian style wooden cabin, complete with changing rooms and lifeguards and The Ring, a huge earth mound with a Stonehenge-esque entrance.

This year Beat-Herder was crowned winner of the Extra Festival Activity Award at the UK Festival Awards, an award that recognises events that paid that extra bit of attention to detail that creates a magical and unforgettable festival experience.

Today, the second wave of names for the special 10th anniversary edition of the festival are announced, including founding fathers of hip hop, Sugarhill Gang & The Furious Five ft Melle Mel and Scorpio. Famed for ‘Rappers Delight’ the pioneering trio were responsible for introducing the genre to a generation. They are joined on the main stage by Beat-Herder favourites Dub Pistols, electronic group K-Klass, and the Freestylers who will bring their original dose of bass and breakbeats. Also appearing is long term Warp Records producer Nightmares on Wax, who helped define the early days of Warp with his experimental techno sound.

Joining the lineup are old Beat-Herder friends Mr Scruff & MC Kwasi, who’ll be performing in The Woods, alongside PBR Streetgang, and Paul Hartnoll, one half of the legendary Orbital, who will appear as new outfit 8:58.

Sam & The Womp will headline the much loved WMC (Working Men’s Club),Richard Norris of The Grid headlines The Perfumed Garden, The Mouse Outfitwill take to the main stage, as well as headlining the Smoky Tentacles. Eat Static, winner of 2 International Breakspoll Awards Marten Hørger and Orbital’s Phil Hartnoll will play The Fortress.

Radio 1 & 1Xtra favourite MistaJam will play in The Ring alongside Zion Train, Dutty Moonshine, Featurecast, and Loo & Placido.

Since its inception a couple of years back, The Maison D’Etre has been playing host to some of the most hotly tipped emerging artists and this year will prove to continue that tradition. Channelling a rural French peasant chic, with quaint shutters and washing lines, the Maison D’Etre will provide an intimate setting to see the next big things including Ghost Culture, Blaenavon, Port Isla, Boxed In, Telegraph, Miaoux Miaoux and more.

All these and dozens more will be joining Friday’s headliner Basement Jaxx, the dancefloor conquering duo whose prolific output over the last 10 years is responsible for shaping UK dance music as we know it today, gypsy swing kings and firm Beat-Herder favourite Parov Stelar Band and true Motown legends Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.
