On the northern banks of the Thames, right where the dirty old river begins to roll out of the city sits Fulham Palace. It’s a best-kept secret in a city that’s not got many unturned stones left; a shortcut to verdant green space just west of the metropolis. An idle ten minutes walk from the tube, it’s somewhere that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled out of the city and into the countryside with the very minimum of effort. It’s the perfect place to host a festival.
This August, Caught by the River Thames will do just that. A remarkable new festival celebrating the very best in music, arts and the natural world, it promises to bring together a truly inspirational gathering of bands and brewers, authors and artists, thinkers and drinkers. Part gig, part literary gathering, part nature symposium, part high-summer garden party, Caught by the River Thames promises to the most diverse and inspirational festival line-up in the capital this summer.
Brought together by the people behind the much-loved website Caught by the River and visionary promoters Robomagic, the festival will bridge the previously un-spanned gap between mind-bending psychedelic rock’n’roll shows and Wildlife TV. Over two days, it will unearth archival London audio-history; provide poetry in the total serenity of a Victorian chapel; play host to jump-up party music from the four corners of the world and hold a low-impact, locally sourced Ten Mile Beer Festival.
Headlining the Lawn Stage on Saturday 6th are legendary Minnesota trio Low. Their masterful use of dynamics and ear for a striking harmony – never more beautifully captured than on last year’s ‘Ones and Sixes’ LP – make them one of the most captivating live acts on the planet. Topping the line-up on Sunday 7th are the peerless Super Furry Animals. Having returned to the live stage last year for a series of ecstatically received reunion shows, the band will be bring the very best of Wales to the banks of the Thames for this one-off London show.
Joining Low and the Super Furries will an array of artists from across the globe including: Beth Orton, Mulatu Astatke, the Sun Ra Arkestra, BE performing the London premiere of the album ONE, Laura Cannell, Ryley Walker, Darren Hayman (playing songs from his ‘Thankful Villages’ project), Gwenno and Jonny Trunk.
Across all the stages of the festival there will be talks and readings. Leading the speakers are Kate Tempest (in conversation with Miranda Sawyer and reading from her forthcoming debut novel) and one of the UK’s best-loved naturalists, Wildlife TV Presenter presenter Chris Packham. Joining them will be many of Caught by the River’s regular contributors including author Amy Liptrot (reading from her hugely-acclaimed debut The Outrun); activist and author of ‘The Wake’, Paul Kingsnorth and genius audio-historian London Sound Survey.
Each day, the UK’s greatest independent publisher Faber & Faber will be presenting their own programme in the Faber Poetry Chapel. Florence and Virginia Astley will play rare live performances alongside readings from a selection of Faber New Poets and friends.
A full line-up for Caught by the River Thames will be announced in the coming weeks. This will include line-ups for stages from the Canal and River Trust, the IdlerAcademy, the Museum of British Folklore and the Caught by the RiverBookshop as well as brewers represented in the Ten Mile Beer Festival and stalls in the global food court.

As introduced back in 2012, all children under 12 can attend the festival for free (ticket is required).

Simon Ford Chagstock Festival organiser says, We are delighted that a band as huge as The Stranglers have agreed to perform at Chagstock this year, and we are very proud of the quality of the other acts announced so far as well…2016 really is set to be a vintage year for the festival. As always, you can rely on Chagstock for a non-corporate vibe, family friendly atmosphere and loads of great and varied music, food and entertainment

This summer Lunar Festival returns for its third year to the enchanting rural setting of Tanworth in Arden, resting place of Nick Drake, and now home to an established magical odyssey which likes to do things just a little bit differently.
Following on from 2015’s breakthrough year, this June’s Lunar is maturing into a wondrous experience across one weekend of magic, set in a rural idyll close to the beating heart of the Midlands yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of reality; inspiring, edifying and a little bit different, Lunar is a refreshing vision of what a festival should be like.
Featuring daytime bands, rousing evening shows and late night beats entwined with guitar driven sounds, there’s a mythical ethos to Lunar blooming from spiritual exploration and adventure. Lunar encapsulates a unique energy which pulsates from the stunning countryside location in which it is set, a sublime weekend which joins the dots across a soundscape of live artists and DJs, and the festival is incredibly proud to announce its first round of acts.
Lunar is bringing a wildly diverse range of artists to perform, from true legends and icons to the new wave of names set to shine. Since their Fuzzy Logic debut album 1996, the Welsh psychedelic rock and electronic experimentalists Super Furry Animals have carved a warped niche in the UK’s left-of-centre scene. And speaking of venerable, Mercury Rev have over a quarter of century of music behind them, their 90s rock finding its place in the present from the New York outfit. The band Television have a devout following worldwide and had a major effect on British post-punk rock as well as American indie rock. And Badly Drawn Boy, with his Mercury-prize winning debut ‘The Hour Of Bewilderbeast’, brings his raw lyrical power to Lunar, suffused with his Mancunian humour and charm.
The Zombies are a the Psych-oriented group that formed in St. Albans in 1961, and released their latest album Still Got That Hunger last year; with almost 50 years behind them, their cult following continues to this day and shows no sign of abating. Os Mutantes bring their own special cult Brazilian Tropicália and psych-pop to Lunar, whilst Matt Berry and The Maypoles weave their culturally eccentric prog-rock and folk together. Bentley Rhythm Ace are the iconic Birmingham electronic outfit crafting big beat to electro rock from the 90s era of dance floor magic.
Ibibio Sound Machine blend African and electronic elements inspired by the golden era of West-African funk & disco and modern post-punk & electro, whist Stealing Sheep’s eccentric electronica – with shades of Morris Dancing – are a quintessentially psychedelic Scouse pop band. Fellow Liverpudlian Bill Ryder Jones has been inspired by genius of Italo Calvino and is an ex member of The Coral; the Arctic Monkeys collaborator is a melancholic wordsmith and musician of great repute. And with her debut album set to drop this spring, Amber Arcade’s floating pop melodies will entrance Lunar.
Further guests revealed include Bangkok Paradise Molam International Band, Martin Carthy, Alessi’s Ark, The Mariachi’s, Josefin Orhn + The Liberation, Victories At Sea, Stick In The Wheel, Ashley Hutchings, Seeland, Table Scraps, Flamingods and The Good Water, Tales of HP Lovecraft and more to be revealed.
Lunar is musically diverse with something for all the family featuring a vibrant range of arts, crafts, activities and games complemented by delicious artisan food and drink from across the region. There is wide range of camping and accommodation options including Bell Tent and Tipi hire, gypsy bow top caravans and local hotels.

The band’s modern take on soul make them a perfect fit to perform ahead of Saturday night headliners LCD Soundsystem who are also known for their innovative interpretations of classic genres. Jungle have developed a reputation for being a formidable, hugely fun live act and as the sun sets on the Park they’ll provide an appropriately atmospheric soundtrack. Jungle say: “Lovebox is legendary and we feel so lucky to be a part of it this year. Nothing beats playing outdoors in your own city… See you in July!”
Some of the brightest singer-songwriters will be serenading the masses, from Australian electronic musician Chet Faker to the experimental, acclaimed Jamie Woon (live) via the folktronica sensation Jack Garratt.
East London’s own Kano will be performing tracks from his long-awaited new album Made in the Manor, as well as classic cuts from his back catalogue.
Some of the biggest names in dance will be spinning, including techno legend Ricardo Villalobos, tech house wizard Craig Richards and producer Terry Francis.
That’s not all – there’s anthemic electropop from duo Oh Wonder, hook-laden Swedish indie pop from Miike Snow, lush electronica from SG Lewis (live), beautifully minimal Icelandic techno from Kiasmos and electronica-tinged rock from Seattle duo Odesza.
Lovebox are honoured to play host to the legendary George Clinton and his funk, soul and rock collective Parliament Funkadelic. Their euphoric live shows are something to behold.
Barcelona party-starters Elrow will also be returning to the Park following several sold out London shows. Their trademark fun-loving theatrics will be reapplied this time in the style of Brazilian carnival for Elrow Presents Sambodromo do Brasil.
Vice music channels Noisey and Thump will return to Lovebox once more to curate their own forward-thinking, individual stages, as will Hackney’s NTS Radio, Soundcrash in association with Clash, Krankbrother and Corona Sunsets.
Kopparberg is set to bring a taste of scandi-cool to this summer’s Lovebox and Citadel with the arrival of the popular Kopparberg Urban Forest.
Carved into the forest will be a woodland bar serving up all kinds of refreshment from the independent Kopparberg brewery in Sweden, including its selection of delicious fruit ciders and the brand new Kopparberg Fruit Lager.
Kopparberg will also be supporting the very best in creative and imaginative live music, by hosting a series of pioneering artists and DJs on its renowned Urban Forest stage.
As well as a thrilling musical line-up, there is plenty to experience in the Park over the weekend. Shangri-La Superstar’s “Tropiskarnival” Bandstand boasts an eclectic programming of world music and dance programmed by Chris Tofu, with performances from the likes of United Vibrations, Temple Funk Collective and Cut Capers.
The Voicebox presented by Roundhouse and Apples and Snakes platforms emerging voices in spoken word and poetry, whilst revellers can spin around to DJ sets at the Bump Roller Disco, sample London’s tastiest street foods and browse the finest fashion and beauty boutiques.
With even more incredible talent still to be announced, this will go down as another unforgettable chapter in Lovebox’s rich history.
