Secret Garden Party will close it curtains for good in 2017

The multi award-winning Secret Garden Party, the event that set the creative benchmark for festivals in the UK and around the world, announced today that this year’s event, July 20-23, will be the final instalment in its illustrious 15-year tenure as one of the most celebrated events on the summer festival calendar.

From humble beginnings as a gathering with a few hundred friends the passionately independent Secret Garden Party has grown organically over the years. Its fun-loving friendly outlook, its much-loved eccentricity, and its meticulous attention to detail has inspired and enabled a generation of creative artists, musicians and performers to develop and thrive, whilst embracing the core values of friendship, participation and ownership with its audience. It has also been a major hub for leftfield, like-minded people who were eager to ‘escape to reality’ through the counter-culture. It can be proud of a legacy that inspired so much (and so many) as well as having been the setting for such a collection of wonderful memories and lifelong friendships.

There is never a perfect time to announce this as either too early or too late would have consequences for the loyal gardeners.

Founder and Head Gardener Freddie Fellowes says:

“15 years ago I started out with a set of ideas as to what makes a good party and the most perfect venue for it. But with no set idea of what the destination was for this venture the ‘festival’ was, at that time, the perfect medium through which to explore these ideas. But rather than getting too excited and telling you about the phoenix we are going to raise from all of this, it bears explaining why we are lighting the fire.

Much has changed since our first Garden Party, when there was nothing else like it in the UK: Facebook, YouTube and Twitter had yet to be invented and no one knew what a boutique festival was, let alone Glamping.

Since then the Garden Party has defined and redefined outdoor events in the UK; we have done so as a collective of truly independent outsiders.

We have never compromised our principles and we never will. SGP has always been a beacon of what you can do within those terms and, as imitation (being the sincerest form of flattery) proves, it has set the bar for everyone else going forward.

But it is exactly because of those principles, and the love of those who have made the Garden Party what it is, that we are committing this senseless act of beauty.

What better way to honour the love that has been given to this project and wholly demonstrate this principle than finishing now? This isn’t some principled self-immolation: this is opening up it for the future. So this summer will be the almighty send-off that the Garden Party deserves and whilst that is going to cause some tears to be shed, think of it more as ‘Dylan goes electric’ than our Altamont.

Because after all you can’t be avant-garde from within an institution and lest we forget: the frontier always moves.”

Come join us for the grande finale!

Bestival unveils even more acts for The Future!

As Bestival’s luminous dream world draws ever nearer, we have news of a host of amazing new live acts and DJs who will be dropping future sounds among the cosmic campfires, mindful escapism, intergalactic raves and Mexican wrestling when Bestival heads into The Future this coming 8-11 September at Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight.

Rob da Bank says: “As ever we aim to please at Bestival and cover all bases at our insane island party. So let’s head into The Future with one of my favourite electronic acts ever Leftfield, a-song-a-month sensation Oh Wonder and newbies Honne and Anne-Marie, plus jungle and house legend DJ Zinc and hardcore heroes Slipmatt, Billy Daniel Bunter and Altern-8!”

They’re one of the biggest and best live dance music acts ever, so we’re over the moon to announce that Leftfield will be tearing up the Big Top on Saturday night. Famed for their speaker smashing bass, and a truckload of anthems from Phat Planet and Release the Pressure to Swords and Universal Everything, they never fail to give the dancefloor a proper spanking. You don’t want to miss this one.

But that’s not all as we’ll have breathy synth duo Oh Wonder, electronic soul from Honne, Rudimental collaborator and winner of MTV’s Brand New list Anne-Marie, hotly tipped rapper Tiggs da Author. acoustic trance from The ShowHawk Duo, and post punk three-piece and Robert Smith faves The Twilight Sad.

There will be even more live music from London Music Awards’ Rising Star Espa, widescreen indie types New Desert Blues, Sunday Best’s own Alice Jemima and Xylaroo, high octane rhymesters Too Many T’s, and the incredible winner of our Isle of Wight bands competition Lauran Hibberd

Joining our future perfect fun on the ones and twos we have a host of forward-thinking crate diggers who’ll keep you dancing all night long including super sharp shooter DJ Zinc, the World of Rave & Music Mondays crew with History of Rave action from DJ Slipmatt going b2b with Billy Daniel Bunter and a DJ set from Altern-8, plus grime selector Sir Spyro, Radio 1’s Clara Amfo, freestyle femme fatale Amy Becker and woozy, psychedelic wunderkind Roosevelt.

We’ll also have pleasingly repetitive beats from Junk: Not Your Thing featuring Luca Pilato & Jordan Mckinlay, Bestival FM co-host and all round party phenomenon Goldierocks hosting the main stage, and dancefloor devastation from Ghettospheric, K2rah, Dr DJ, Joe Roberts Presents Ecstasy Garage Disco, Suspiciously Delicious, Bitr8 and Isle of Wight DJ competition winner Just Eden

Plus, there will be energetic pursuits from the amazing Reggaerobics who will be helping us blow away the cobwebs with some stirring morning manoeuvres.

There are still plenty of treats to be revealed for our Future paradise, including our Sunday night main stage headliners and much more, so head to www.Bestival.net, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram / Tumblr

New acts added to Field Day 2015 lineup

We are delighted to reveal the new line up additions that will be joining the likes of CaribouFKA Twigs,Django Django , Run The Jewels, Hudson Mohawke, Chet Faker and Nina Kraviz on the Field DaySaturday 6th June bill.

We are thrilled to welcome the supremely talented Rae Morris to Field Day 2015. Her stunning and critically acclaimed debut album ‘Unguarded’, released last month, has already garnered huge support across the industry, fans and press, making her one of the most relevant, exciting new artists to come out of the UK right now.
Also on board are Field Day alumni Spector, who will bring the modern pop noir sounds of their highly anticipated upcoming second album to Victoria Park; as well as the adventurous New York hip-hop trioRatking, who mix youthful hardcore energy, pure NY beats and rhymes with Cali punk rock and Detroit techno, whilst staying defiantly underground.

Also confirmed for Field Day Saturday are global electronic collective Future Brown with their time-bending, space shrinking, glossy post-human sound, whose highly anticipated new album is out this week on Warp Records; as well as Soundcloud-famous Worcestershire electro-crooner Astronomyy.

Meanwhile, We Are Shining, the British duo who have been in the studio with Kanye, collaborated with FKA Twigs and specialise in apocalyptic atmosphere with foreboding vocals, big beats and frantic electric guitar solos have also been confirmed, alongside hotly-tipped electronic band Hælos with their breathtaking vocal harmonies, and the brilliant radical funkateer Clarence Clarity, a kind of funky Ariel Pink.

We are thrilled to announce new sensational DJ additions to the Field Day Saturday line up. Joining the likes of Nina KravizMadlibBen Klock and Marcel Dettman are Norwegian producer Cashmere Cat; Night Slugs co-founder and ‘rhythm & grime’ producer Bok Bok, sublime bedroom composer-programmerMax Tundra, Swedish beatmaker Yung Gud, as well as London’s wildest new club soundtrackerMssingNo. Plus expect epic sets from DJ Barely LegalDanny L Harle, AG Cook and Shanti Celeste!

Already a Field Day tradition, we are honoured to welcome back the Farnborough Concert Band, who will be, once again, entertaining the Field Day crowds with their exceptional take on anything from Britney Spears to Adele and our very own Patti Smith! The brilliant Hackney Colliery Band, with their tongue-in-cheek nod to the great tradition of British brass bands, are also on board again, mixing rock, afro-beat, hip hop, Balkan beats and contemporary jazz and soul…we absolutely cannot wait to have these two great brass bands at Field Day again!

New confirmations for Field Day Sunday 7th June:

Gaz Coombes/ Eagulls/ Ex Hex/ Pale/ Gulf

 Previously announced:
– LIVE – RIDE/ Patti Smith and her band perform Horses (1975-2015)/ Mac DeMarco/ DIIV/ Savages/ Hookworms/ Viet Cong/ Baxter Dury/ Allah-Las/ Ducktails/ Outfit/ My Brightest Diamond/ Bad Breeding/ Jane Weaver… and many more TBA!

After confirming Gaz Coombes, the exuberant frontman of the boundlessly imaginative Brit-pop band Supergrass, last week, we are thrilled to announce more exciting additions to the Field Day Sunday line up, which so far includes newly reformed seminal shoe-gazers RIDE as headliners, as well as the iconicPatti Smith & her band (performing her 1975 groundbreaking album Horses), SavagesMac DeMarcoand many more.

Leeds punk quintet Eagulls have become synonymous with a discontented, disillusioned kind of anger reflected in their brilliant self-titled critically acclaimed 2014 debut album as well as their chaotic and confrontational live shows, going from early support slots with the likes of Iceage and Fucked up to Jesus and The Mary Chain, Suede, Manic Street Preachers, as well as extensive tours in their own right. We are very excited to have them at Field Day this year!

Also confirmed for Field Day Sunday are Washington DC power trio Ex Hex, who make bold and brash punk meets glam rock, power pop; enigmatic London duo Pale, who have been attracting global attention for their seductive melancholic sound, as well as Liverpudlian band Gulf, creators of a melting pot of pop, psychedelia, disco and anything in between.
