Slam Dunk 2017 – Who To Watch

This years Slam Dunk see’s hordes of new and returning acts, picking out the artists to watch is a task and obviously every band are ones to watch, however, there isn’t enough time in the day and as with all festivals, there are bound to be clashes so we’ve come up with some of our main ones we think you should go and see

Madina Lake’s reformation and first performances in the UK since the reformation, Enter Shikari’s headline set, the pop-punk kings of the old generation Bowling For Soup are definitely acts you should be going over to the stages to see.

WE ARE THE OCEAN

Sadly, this year’s Slam Dunk festival will see We Are The Ocean take to the main stage for their last ever performance before parting ways. Although the band have pulled out of the Hatfield date, those of you attending the North and The Midlands dates are in for a treat; as the band have said ‘this is one last chance to celebrate the past, the present and the future’. So, if you want to scream your lungs out to songs from Cutting Our Teeth, Go Now And Live, Maybe Today, Maybe Tomorrow, Ark and the Self-Titled EP one last time and celebrate their farewell you know where you need to be.

VUKOVI

This year’s line-up is full of pop-rock heavyweights and it’d be easy to forget about the exciting new acts gracing the smaller stages around the venue and one of those being Vukovi. Who have made themselves unavoidable after dropping their riotous debut album earlier this year!. The Glasgow bunch have been making quite a racket on and off the record. Armed with their heavy riffs, super-charged tempo and front woman Janine Shilstone’s sizzling vocals, the four-piece have been tearing up the UK’s live scene, setting a precedent for their first ever Slam Dunk set so make sure you’re there to witness it.

DEAF HAVANA

Deaf Havana have had it rough in the last few years. In the wake of their Old Souls record, the band were dropped from their record label, fell into debt, and even fell out of love with their craft.

Miraculously, the band have made their return with an momentous new album, All These Countless Nights, which was unveiled earlier this year. If their recent headline shows across the UK are anything to go by its proved the band have found a new lease of life both in their material, and in their live show.

Bowling for Soup, Bad Religion and more for Download Festival 2014

The Summer Festival Guide 2014 is excited to reveal the next additions to the Download Festival lineup including Bowling for Soup, Black Label Society, Opeth, Bad Religion and more!Bowling for Soup

Leading the armada are pop-punk legends Bowling for Soup, who have chosen to celebrate their 20th birthday at Donington, wisely putting faith in Europe’s biggest Rock Festival to bring the party.

Lead singer Jaret Reddick said: We are really stoked to be coming back to Download this year…first and foremost, our little band turns 20 this June, so what better way to celebrate! Music, beer and Portaloos! Also, it's a great opportunity to show our amazing UK fans that, although we don't have plans to tour any time soon, they will still get to see our pretty faces once in a while. Can. Not. Wait!

Celebratory Birthday circle pit, anyone…?

Elsewhere on site, two of this year’s most massively anticipated spring album releases will be followed with huge live performances; Black Label Society, led by notorious shredder Zakk Wylde, and Swedish prog-metal mad scientists Opeth will both bring never-before-seen sets to Download 2014, making the crowds at Donington amongst the first to experience the new material in the flesh.

Bad Religion @ Download Festival

Forming the L.A. regiment of today’s new Download battalion are Celtic-punk seven piece Flogging Molly and Download Festival virgins Bad Religion – making their Donington debut 35 years after they first started their melodic punk crusade against tyranny and hypocrisy.

Lead singer Greg Graffin was keen to acknowledge the UK, and in particular Donington’s place in music history: Our UK fans are among the most dedicated and appreciative audiences the world over. We consider every trip to the UK a special treat, and the tradition of Donington will make this appearance all the more special. Bad Religion is steeped in tradition, so we greatly look forward to it!

Also joining them will be PHA and the Illegals, the latest project from Pantera and Down Frontman, Phil Anselmo.

Powerman 5000 are another act who will receive their Download Festival baptism in 2014, with lead frontman Spider One joining big bro Rob Zombie at the coalface of Donington’s grizzly industrial underworld.

There will be less pond-crossing and more M1-gridlock-negotiating for the return of home grown Metalcore 5-piece Bury Tomorrow this June, in a set that will feature the likes of massive new single, Watcher and more great tracks yet to be revealed from impending album Runes, which lands on May 26th.

Vocalist Dani Winter-Bates commented: We're absolutely stoked to be invited back to play Download Festival. It was one of the staple points of last year for Bury Tomorrow! So we can't wait to get back to Donington and smash it!

The BossHoss, who have been purging pop songs of their innocence and churning out badass Country Trash Punk Rock for the past decade will also appear at Download 2014. Sascha Vollmer aka Hoss Power from The BossHoss said: We had a blast playing at Download in 2011 and the energy there totally blew our minds! We can always rely on a kick-ass party at our UK shows, so we're more than ready to come back and have another good old riot with you crazy bunch of rock and roll maniacs!

More? Ok, well listen up – today’s announcement also confirms another handful of awesome appearances from classic North American metal caballeros Skid Row, Tesla and Danger Danger as well as Jill Janus’ thrash-influenced Huntress, filthy blues-rockers The Graveltones and newcomers Anti-Mortem.

Huntress-in-chief, Jill Janus said: Huntress is honoured to play Download Festival again! We had a killer show last year, and will bring the fury to UK music fanatics once more.
Spread it, shred it, behead it!

Larado Romano of Anti-Mortem said of the announcement: Anti-Mortem is extremely excited and beyond ready to play Download this year, it will be the biggest festival we've played to date and our first as a group in the U.K. Watch out UK, we'll be kicking ass Oklahoma style and our rage is American made!

On his latest recruits, Download promoter Andy Copping said: This is shaping up to be the most diverse Download yet – a real tableau of the past, present and future of rock and metal. You can see that in our headliners; Aerosmith, Linkin Park andAvenged Sevenfold, and in today’s announcement where we combine such renowned acts as Bowling for Soup and Opeth withnewer acts like Bury Tomorrow.

The Jager Rock Truck returns to Download Festival

Back by popular demand for the third year running, the Jäger Rock Truck presents its very own acoustic stage in a converted ex-military 25 tonne beast of a truck with a line up not to be missed. Over the course of the weekend, acts including American pop-punk bowling for soupband Bowling For Soup, Brit hard-rockers SKIN, London’s own Slaves to Gravity, fiery four-piece Obsessive Compulsive, Aussie-rockers Verses and fresh from their UK tour, Heaven’s Basement will all take to the stage to warm up the crowds at Download.

They’re joined by critically acclaimed Hyro Da Hero, Swedish rockers Royal Republic, Irish five-piece Million $ Reload, Glam rockers The Morning After, Maiden United with a fantastic acoustic tribute to the legendary Iron Maiden, funk-rocker Dan Reed, rock five-piece The Dirty Youth, critically-acclaimed Voodoo Johnson and the fantastic Red, White & Blues. Crowds can also enjoy an Ice Cold Jäger shot from the amazing Jäger Ice truck, which with its sub zero bar is a great way to cool down after rocking out to some superb music.

Further additions to the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage have also been announced, including dubstep four-piece Modestep, straight from their UK tour Don Broco, grunge-metal heads Kill 21, London rockers Fighting Wolves, Sweden’s H.E.A.T and electro rap/rock band You And What Army.

Additionally, organisers are pleased to announce the return of Download FM, powered by the award-winning Rock Radio for the third year running. Rock Radio proved in 2009 & 2010, that they know how to put on a good show with Download FM; the radio station on an RSL (restricted service licence) that broadcasts to the hundreds of thousands of music fans descending on Donington for the legendary festival, listening worldwide to the service online and through apps.

This year Rock Jocks, Tom Russell, Paul Anthony, Father Ted, Moose, Phil McCracken, Rachel Houghton and special guests will be presenting on Download FM along with Rock Radio network shows during the festival, with interviews from many of the bands on this year’s impressive line-up.

Following on from last year’s successful competition to host your own show on Download FM, another festival goer will get the chance, this June, to take control of the mic and present their very own radio show with full details being made available on Download’s official site very soon.

Brand Manager for Rock Radio, Ciaran O’Toole said, “The whole team at Rock Radio are busy gearing up for our third year broadcasting on Download FM.  Getting the chance to work with the fantastic team at Live Nation and deliver some top class, quality radio to Download’s festival goers, is a real honour & the station will add to the overall festival experience with all the latest news & information wrapped around the music of the acts playing live at the festival.

“With two years’ experience under our belts, we are extremely well placed to broadcast Download FM for 2011, from one of the best Rock Music festivals in the world.  Rock Radio is proud to power Download FM.”

Once at Download, customers can also stay in touch at the Vodafone VIP phone recharge zone and use an exclusive VIP viewing platform – where they could get the chance to see one of their favourite acts perform.
