The omens are good, The Future is happening. WithBestival 2016’s Future theme unveiled, we can hurtle headlong into the good times, revealing three massive headliners and an incredible cast of musical pioneers, forward thinking funksters and precognitive pop stars, who will be journeying with us into Bestival’s glamourous machine age, where everlasting gobstoppers signal eternal bliss, this September 8-11, disembarking fromRobin Hill on the Isle of Wight.
Future swashbuckler Rob da Bank says: “So, here we go again, but this time we’re going far… far away… into the future. Prepare yourselves for a Bestival unlike any other with futuristic new stages, and as ever it’s a broad church of music from every decade and every genre. Saturday night headliners and one of my favourite bands ever, The Cure, played Bestival five years ago and almost had to be dragged off stage after a three-hour mammoth greatest hits set. Robert Smith popped down last year and we shook hands on it all happening again… bring it on!
“Friday honours go to Major Lazer who have killed it every time they’ve played, on a bigger stage each time – I remember going to see an exhausted, sweating Diplo after his last main stage show for us and he said ‘headline next time?’, so here we are!
“It’s not all about the headliners, as we know, so I’m super-pleased to have acts as diverse as Hot Chip, Years and Years, Animal Collective and Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, through to the hottest DJs Kurupt FM and the Black Madonna. This is just the start of the trip – see you in The Future!”
The Cure’s Robert Smith said: “We are very very happy to be back at our favourite festival; we can’t wait to play a special set to show the future IS what it used to be…”
Major Lazer commented: "We started at Bestival five years ago, and it was one of our favourite shows to date. Feels like home for us… Rugged and real music fans… Since then we finally impacted in England, and we can’t wait to do our new show and play all the records for the fans at one of the best festivals in the world!!”

One of Bestival HQs favourites and, frankly, one of the greatest bands of all time, The Cure will headline Saturday night when Bestival heads to The Future. From Three Imaginary Boys in 1979 to their most recent album 4:13 Dream, they’ve forged their own path, dragging everyone else in their wake. Covering the gamut of emotions that take in the heady pop of Boys Don’t Cry and Inbetween Days, the heartbreak of Pictures of You and Bloodflowers, the ferociousness of Give Me It and Fascination Street and the dreaminess of Underneath the Stars and Lovesong, their live shows are legendary, taking the crowd on a beautiful rollercoaster ride. So, we really can’t wait to welcome them back to the main stage at Robin Hill this September.
Ensuring that Friday night’s main stage behaviour goes off with the requisite bang that will fire us forward into the unknown, we’re ecstatic that Major Lazer are making their return in 2016. Their last appearance driving willing Bestivalites to the edge of abandon has passed into Bestival lore, making them one of the most incredible live spectacles we’ve ever witnessed. Powered by the inimitable ingenuity of Diplo and Jillionaire, Major Lazer’s Peace Is The Mission album ruled sound systems throughout 2015, producing one of the year’s anthems in Lean On, and launching the band into truly big leagues. Guaranteed to be a mindblower, you don’t want to miss our Friday night headliners.
They’re practically Bestival’s house band, having appeared with us at Robin Hill more times than almost anyone else, so we really couldn’t be happier that the incredible Hot Chip are very much a part of Bestival’s Future headlining Thursday night in the Big Top. From some truly impressive fancy dress action to trailblazing virtual reality band members they always pull out all the stops. Last year’s stripped back Why Make Sense? album was their sixth piece de resistance earning them universal acclaim, add to that their arsenal of kinetic electro-pop bangers and you have a nailed-on guarantee of good times, to help kick of our future adventures in stupendous style.
With one more headliner still to announce, we have a litany of musical treats, all presented in alphabetical order for your delectation, that will keep you reaching for the stars all weekend long, including Animal Collective, Aurora, Bastille, Beaty Heart, Benjamin Damage, Bicep, The Black Madonna, Bodhi presents ROOTS, Caravan Palace, Craig David’s TS5, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, and David Rodigan MBE presents Ram Jam.
Plus, we’ll have Eats Everything, Eskimo Dancefeaturing Wiley, Section Boyz, Chip, Big Narstie, Newham Generals, Frisco, P Money, Elf Kid, AJ Tracey, Jammz, Fekky, Logan Sama & Maximum, Ghostpoet, and Hospitality Presents: Camo & Krooked, London Elektricity, S.P.Y B2B Nu:Tone, Danny Byrd B2B Brookes Brothers, Maduk, Dynamite MC and Wrec.

Set to take our two-day metropolitan jamboree by storm, the Common People crew are delighted to announce that Duran Duran will headline Common People 2016, topping the bill at Oxford’s South Park on Saturday 28th May and then providing a fitting finale for our Southampton Common shindig on Sunday 29th May.

Common People head honcho Rob da Bank says: “So, we were already off to a flyer with Common People selling out last year, announcing a second site this year, with our beautiful South Park location in Oxford, overlooking the dreaming spires, and now we’re putting the cherry on top with the news that Duran Duran will be headlining a day in each city! Icons of the last four decades the boys are still churning out hits and absolutely smashed it at our mothership show Bestival last year. I’m also delighted to announce Katy B will be joining the party. See you in the fields”.
Commenting on their headline performance, Duran Duran’s John Taylor said: “We are very honoured to be a part of this year’s Common People festival, we had such an incredible time at Bestival last year. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend! See you all there”.
A universal highlight of Bestival’s Summer of Love, Duran Duran took it to the next level on the Isle of Wight last year, so team CP just couldn’t resist bringing them to South Park to headline the first day of Oxford’s inaugural Common People and to wrap up our sophomore Southampton outing. One of UK pop music’s most successful and enduring bands, Duran Duran have provided the soundtrack to the lives several generations, from their early days in Birmingham’s Rum Runner formulating the sound that would give us Planet Earth and Girls on Film to their latest acclaimed album, Paper Gods, that returned them to the top ten winning them a whole new audience in the process.
Also joining Common People’s line-up on Saturday in Oxford and Sunday in Southampton is dance music trailblazer Katy B. Firmly at the forefront of the most recent wave of chart invading beat fanatics, Katy’s armoury of pop-rave bangers saw her last album taking the top spot, and with follow up Honey poised to be the soundtrack of this summer, you can guarantee she’ll hit the mark.
Both acts will be joining previously announced performers Primal Scream, Craig David, Public Enemy, Gaz Coombes, Ghost Poet, Kurupt FM, Hospitality, Ram Jam, and many more, plus there’s still a whole raft of bands, DJs and outlandish action to announce. For more information and ticket details head to http://commonpeople.net/.
Joining our previously announced headliners Fatboy Slim, Tears for Fears and Jess Glynne, and Aliens Love Underpants, Dick and Dom and Mr Tumble, we’re over the moon to announce even more astronutters who will be joining Camp Bestival’s festi-holiday frolics at Space Camp Lulworth for a party that’s sure to be out of this world!
Rob da Bank says: “Prepare for lift-off my space brothers and sisters… we are T-minus 184 days and, whilst I’m busying packing dried food and spare pants for the trip to outer space, I’ve also been booking a load more bands and DJs. From Katy B and KT Tunstall, to London legends Squeeze, hip-hop royalty in the form of Arrested Development and the incredible afro beat of Seun Kuti, it’s a veritable smorgasbord of styles from around the world… and outer space! Can’t wait to see you at the launch pad!
We’re super-excited to welcome the queen of rave pop, Katy B, to Lulworth castle! A chart invading trailblazer, Katy’s beat-driven vignettes laid the foundations for a whole host of recent chart stars, and with brand new album Honey – the follow up to chart topper Little Red – set to soundtrack the summer, she’s a dead cert to blast us into outer space! We’ll also have stratospheric action from Scottish chanteuse KT Tunstall, London’s finest post-punk hit-machine Squeeze, enduring hip-hop troubadours Arrested Development, keepers of the Afrobeat flame Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, the UK’s most successful girl band ever Bananarama, turntable wizard DJ Yoda, singer-songwriter Jamie Lawson, chill out specialists Turin Brakes, acid jazz innovators Brand New Heavies, confessional rapper Loyle Carner, reggae queen Dawn Penn, Havana’s greatest gift to humanity The Cuban Brothers, and hobo-chic originator Duke Special.

And there will be plenty more intergalactic joys with Louis Berry, Rob da Bank & Tayo’s Prince tribute, Purple Rave, Sound of the Sirens, The Demon Barbers XL, Sound and Vision: A Celebration of David Bowie presented by Rob da Bank, Lizzie Ball and the Classical Kicks Orchestra, The Scorsese Agreement, Delilah Sisters, The Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, Circus Raj and Folk Idol.

Chinese Man, carried by the French Chinese Man Records label will bring the sound of hip-hop, funk, dub, reggae and jazz to Love Saves The Day Sunday, in addition to the renowned remixer Mad Professor, and bass player and producer specialising in digital reggae Manu Digital.
