Boomtown Fair headliners announced

Gogol Bordello are an internationally acclaimed band that take the audience on an exhilarating rollercoaster journey with their performance. Fusing the heritage of front man Eugene Hütz’s nomadic journey from Ukraine to New York where he teamed up with the rest of the band, their unique sound and bizarre stage shows were born. The group’s early gigs involved playing straight gypsy music at Russian weddings, but their music soon developed into the hyper-kinetic explosion that earned them a solid following amongst New York’s downtown hipsters. Having performed at some of the world’s leading festivals and venues Gogol Bordello have become renowned as one of the best live acts on the circuit.

Caravan Palace are a French electro swing band that use an energetic blend of violins and accordions to create morish melodies. The band’s influences include Django Reinhardt, Vitalic, Lionel Hampton and Daft Punk. The band released their début studio album, Caravan Palace, on the Wagram label in October 2008. The record charted in Switzerland, Belgium and France, where it reached a peak position of #11. Not only do Caravan Palace combine classic electro with swing perfectly, but the catchy We Can Dance, Bambous and Je m’amuse will have you dancing for days.

Next on the Main Stage bill are icons of late 1970’s, early 1980’s ska revival scene The Selecter. With the full line up reuniting in summer of 2010, Pauline Black rejoining with Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson as The Selecter for the 30th Anniversary of their no. 5 UK album “Too Much Pressure”. Get ready for hits such as Gangsters vs. The Selecter, On My Radio and the ska anthem Three Minute Hero to be blasted out through the biggest bass pumping sound system to be seen at any festival!

[dunkelbunt] aka Ulf Lindemann, born in 1979 in Hamburg, lives and works as a DJ, composer, producer, radio editor and mixer of spices in Vienna since 2001. The name [dunkelbunt] represents diversity and the ongoing search for ever new musical fusions and styles. His list of collaborations seems to be as extensive as the musical waters he crosses. A gifted piano player [dunkelbunt] redevelops his own distinctive style and musical sense with every musical influence and every ethnic group he comes across. Dunkelbrunt presents a mix of Electro Swing, Mestizo, Balkan Beats, Oriental Dub, Tarantella, Gipsy Jungle and much more inviting you to a musical journey around the Mediterranean Sea from the beach to the dancefloor…

The Godfathers of American Ska, The Toasters are the longest active ska band in the United States; they have released nine studio albums, most of them on Moon Ska Records. The Toasters experienced a small degree of commercial success in the late 1990s due to the popularity of third wave ska in North America. Their song “Two-Tone Army” is also the theme song for the Nickelodeon show KaBlam! (credited as the Moon Ska Stompers).

Welsh rap satirists, Goldie Lookin Chain; coming straight outta Newport, with a mysterious background shrouded in a fog of herbal cigarette smoke, Goldie Lookin’ Chain broke through to the mainstream in 2003. Best known for their hit song Guns Don’t Kill People, Rappers Do, which went straight in at number three and established the GLC as a cultural force to be reckoned with. They will be showcasing their much loved singles Your Mother’s Got A Penis and You Knows I Loves You, as well as new material that with their reputation for holding no punches in terms of lyrical controversy they are guaranteed to entertain the masses!

Accompanying these heavyweights are; the infectious and playful funk of The Apples, the political infusion of ska, punk, dub and reggae of The Kings Blues, Bristol ska and funk maestros Babyhead bringing their hyper-interactive anarchic live show back to their motherland and fellow Bristolian’s the 10 piece Smerins Anti Social Club with their raw ingredients of ska, funk, dub, drum’n’bass and swing will all be on hand to steer the Boomtowners through an odyssey of the best ska, funk, reggae and dub on the circuit today!

With Super Early Bird and Early Bird tickets selling out in record time the full weekend camping ticket is still only £93 and includes; 4 days and nights of unadulterated fun spread out over 22 inventive stages and areas in a perfect setting! Bring on the Bass…

You Me At Six, All Time Low, Sum 41 and more for Sonisphere Knebworth 2011

Surrey superstars YOU ME AT SIX make their SONISPHERE debut at KNEBWORTH this year.

“We are really excited to play Sonisphere!”
says frontman Josh Franceschi. “It’s going to be a lot of fun performing at such a great rock festival.”

In just a few short years, Josh, Chris, Dan, Matt and Max have gone from hitching low-fare rides on the megabus to get to their shows up and down the UK, to traveling across the globe in tour buses supporting the likes of Angels & Airwaves, Fall Out Boy and Paramore in huge arenas, as well as packing out clubs and theatres at their own headline shows, including two sold out nights at the Hammersmith Apollo. When debut “Take Off Your Colours” was released in 2008, the album propelled YOU ME AT SIX into the UK Top 30 (number 25). That their second album peaked at number 5 just two years later is testament to the band’s meteoric ascent, which shows no sign of slowing down on the road to SONISPHERE, where we look forward to fan faves such as “Save It For The Bedroom”, “Finders Keepers” and “Underdog”.

Baltimore, Maryland’s ALL TIME LOW join the SONISPHERE festivities, bringing with them a bag of hook-laden, guitar driven party tricks. ALL TIME LOW has emerged as one of the most popular new bands in recent memory, beloved by an increasingly fervent fan following for their fast-paced and fizzy brand of pop-punk. Currently on a sold out tour of the UK, the ALL TIME LOW of 2011 pay little resemblance to the covers band that formed in high school, with a catalogue of their own hits such as “Weightless”, “Lost In Stereo” and “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t)” with which to dazzle the revelers at KNEBWORTH.

Canadian alt-punks SUM 41 make their way from Ajax, Ontario to deliver a plethora of infectiously catchy pop-laden punk. Having spent nearly all of last year on the road, including their 4th headlining run on the 2010 US Vans Warped Tour, SUM 41 are gearing up to release the most long-awaited new studio album of their career, “Screaming Bloody Murder”, at the end of March. If the first single of the same name is anything to go by, fans are in for a treat, as the multi-platinum, multi-million selling four-piece showcase brand new songs to UK festival goers for the first time this summer at SONISPHERE, as well as old favourites like “Fat Lip”, “In Too Deep”, “Still Waiting” and their homage to metal, “Pain For Pleasure”.

Reforming in celebration of their 20 year anniversary, it is with great excitement that SONISPHERE welcomes HOUSE OF PAIN to 2011’s event, as part of a worldwide reunion tour. It’s hard to believe that the rowdy Irish Americans got started way back in 1991, but for the past 20 years the group has maintained a high profile – topping the Billboard charts as a group and with solo efforts. It was the turn of a new decade when HOUSE OF PAIN changed the face of hip-hop with their self-titled debut album, going multi-platinum and launching one of the most memorable songs in hip-hop history with “Jump Around”. Now, Everlast and Danny Boy bring their fiery live show to get the masses at KNEBWORTH to jump up and get down, with hits like “Shamrocks & Shenanigans”, “Top O’ The Morning To Ta”, and, of course, THAT song.

Also joining the 2011 line up are melodic extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY, one of the leading lights of the death metal scene. Starting life as something of a side-project, in their 15 years ARCH ENEMY have battled their way out of the underground to become one of extreme metal’s most prolific acts, achieving numerous chart positions across the globe, including the prestigious US Billboard charts. High profile tours and festival appearances showcasing incredible musicianship and fiercely aggressive live shows have made ARCH ENEMY a favourite amongst fans at the heavier end of the music spectrum, who can expect an shred-tastically impressive set at SONISPHERE.

PERIPHERY has set the metal world alight with their self-styled “Djent” metal, injecting a new sense of excitement around this buzzing new sub-genre. Combining the complex atypical rhythms and technical precision of math rock with the sensational brutality of progressive metal, PERIPHERY is a band that is constantly pushing the envelope, and are bound to impressive any who witness what will be a stunning display of musical and technical mastery. Says the band:
“To say that we are pumped to play Sonisphere in the UK is an understatement.  Not only do we get to come back and play for some of the best fans anywhere, but we get to do it at the UK’s premier summer music festival!”

Australian alternative-rockers GRINSPOON announce their inclusion at SONISPHERE 2011, hot off the back of their UK tour which ended in London this last weekend. With no less than 13 Australian Recording Industry Association awards nominations – including a win – to their name, as well as numerous platinum records in their home country, find out what the fuss is about at their SONISPHERE debut this summer.

Wrestling and rock have a long history together, a natural partnership that led to pro-wrestler Chris Jericho teaming up with Stuck Mojo guitarist Rich Ward to create FOZZY, who join this year’s cast. Existing solely to rock hard, be that playing popular metal classics or their own material, FOZZY’s reputation for powerful and energetic live shows make their appearance at SONISPHERE 2011 one that promises to be a fun-packed celebration of good old heavy metal.

Camp Bestival announce special guest Laura Marling

It’s all go at Camp Bestival HQ! Having announced a barnstorming first round of acts last week, including two of our headliners, Blondie and Mark Ronson & the Business Intl plus some sumptuous festival exclusives from The Gruffalo (live), Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s RIVER COTTAGE CAFÉ, Gavin Turk’s House of Fairy Tales and The English National Ballet, we are jumping for joy that we can announce a very special guest appearance from multi-award winner Laura Marling at our four-day festi-holiday.

Rob da Bank says: ”Laura Marling has been a Bestival and Camp Bestival favourite from the start of her amazingly fruitful career! We absolutely can’t say enough good things about her song writing and incredible live shows, so I’m chuffed she’s coming back to Camp Bestival for a rare festival show headlining the Big Top”.

Currently enjoying an enviable winning streak, Laura Marling’s mantelpiece must be straining under the weight of her music industry backed BRIT for Best Female Solo Artist and her public-voted Shockwaves NME Award for Best Solo Artist.  Her beguiling set in the shadow of Lulworth Castle in 2009 was one of the event’s highlights, so we can’t wait for Laura to return to Camp Bestival for a rare festival appearance headlining the Big Top on Saturday night following Mark Ronson and Business Intl’s main stage show.

We’re also very excited to confirm that Labrinth will be making an appearance at this year’s Camp Bestival. The man behindTinie Tempah’s ‘Pass Out’ and ‘Frisky’, Labrinth is just about the hottest producer on the block right now, getting the likes of Simon Cowell so hot under the collar that Labrinth was the first non-talent show act signed to Syco in six years. Nine-piece skank masters Gentlemmen’s Dub Club have a history of tearing up crowds making their sublime journey through ska and reggae adding a large dose of soul along the way. Definitely a band not to miss. DJ and Singer-Songwriter Yasmin is also confirmed, having hit the charts collaborating with Devlin on his Top 20 hit ‘Runaway’ and caused a critical stir with her debut single ‘On My Own’ big things are expected of Yasmin. Six minds playing music to best portray the thoughts of Jean Jacques Rousseau using the medium of pop music, Yaaks will be making their Camp Bestival debut, Modestep will make your brain wobble with their speaker smashing live dubstep action and Jaguar Skills will rock the ones and twos bringing his revenge of the ninja flavour.

The success of people power at last year’s Bestival and Camp Bestival continues this year not only with the previously announced Camp Bestival Allstars but also with the Camp Bestival Family Talent Show who are looking for you and your family’s good old fashioned raw Hi de Hi Talent – sign up onsite at the Little Big Top before Saturday Lunch time and you will get a 3 minute slot in our Family Talent Show – to be judged by old fashioned celebrity Talent on Sunday – with the winners receiving lunch at River Cottage Cafe and a £200 merchandising voucher!

Other amazing attractions will include Amoeba To Zebra written and performed by Being 747 a natural history musical 4.6billion years in the making, Heavenly Healing Camp Bestival’s amazing massage & therapy sanctuary, the Come Dancing classes in the Black Dahlia Tent in Magic Meadow. The Flying Seagulls Charity Tent will have clowns and entertainers on hand to help, guide and keep everyone laughing. In keeping with our Medieval fancy dress theme theKnights of Lulworth Castle with be performing death-defying Jousting, there will be stunning stunts at the Freestyle Sports Park, the fantastic Insect Circus, plus giving parents a chance for a break the wonderful Boutique Babysitting will return to Camp Bestival.  The weekend will be rounded off by an amazing firework spectacular accompanied by a special Rob da Bank set that will be beyond jaw dropping.

With our amazing Sunday night headliner still to announce and lots more fun and games in the pipeline remember to checkwww.campbestival.net for more details and the most up-to-the-minute news.

Pendulum, Paolo Nutini, The Stranglers and more for FIB 2011

The Stranglers
Formed in 1974, The Stranglers suffered an initial alienation from the press just as other pub-rock classic bands such as Eddie & The Hot Rods or the Tom Robinson Band were. However, their approach was different and they proved it with the publication of their first two albums: ‘Rattus Norvegicus’ and ‘No More Heroes’. Two virtuous punk-rock classics with a progressive touch thanks to the personal and virtuous solos and riffs of Dave Greenfield’s keyboard. From that moment on, the band developed a notorious discography full of great classics and great moments such as the mentioned albums and the essential ‘La Folie’.

pendumlumPendulum
Drum ‘n’ Bass and an electronic Rock shape up the Australian band– although currently based in the UK – Pendulum. The band came together in 2002 in Perth thanks to Rob Swire and Gareth McGillen but also counting with DJ Paul ‘El Hornet’ Harding’s help. Their frenetic discography started with the single ‘Trail of Sevens’ in 2003 and, from that moment on, have published 20 singles, a live album – ‘Live at Brixton Academy’ (2009) and three studio albums, the last one being ‘Inmersion’ (2010). Their flaming live shows have placed them among the best electronic shows of the moment.

Paolo Nutini
Scottish singer and songwriter Paolo Nutini energetically burst into the British Pop scene thanks to his harsh and subtle voice and a bunch of great compositions that made up his debut album ‘These Streets’. ‘Jenny Don’t be Hasty’, ‘Last Request’ and ‘These Streets’ show his pop-rock excellencies. In 2009 he published ‘Sunny Side Up’, album which confirms Nutini as one of the most promising British soloists.

The Juan MacLean
The Juan McLean is the artistic name of North American John McLean, whose career in DFA Records started a while after having finished with his band Six Finger Satellite, thanks to the insistence of James Murphy – LCD Soundsystem. McLean published his first album, ‘Less Than Human’ back in 2005.

Congotronics Vs Rockers
Name under which a first class lineup with international projection is hosted, Congotronics Vs Rockers have universal representation from Congo to Sweden. For FIB 2011, they’ll present a proposal that unites tradition and vanguard on equal quantities. Formed by Konono No.1 (DR of Congo), Deerhoof (US), Kasai Allstars (DR of Congo), Juana Molina (Arg), Wildbirds & Peacedrums (Swe) and Skeletons (US).

Professor Greenprofessor green
Stephen Paul Maderson, aka MC Professor Green got Mike Skinner’s (The Streets) attention thanks to his disrespectful lyrics. The Beast – Skinner’s label – launched his first works becoming part of the label’s payroll until it had to close in 2008. In 2010 he published his first album ‘Alive Till I’m Dead’.

Atom Rhumba
Bilbao band Atom Rhumba will debut in FIB with their recently published album ‘Gargantuan Melee’. Rober!’s band now returns after a break induced by all sorts of difficulties, to give continuity to the great ‘Backbone ritmo’ and rock’n’roll influenced by Tony Joe, The Gun Club or The Scientists.

The Morning Benders
California based The Morning Benders – and particularly the main composer, guitarist and Singer, Chris Chu – have Phil Spector and The Beach Boys engraved in their bones transmitting beach, sun, sand and ‘echo’ in every beat. The title of their second album ‘Big Echo’ is a declaration of intentions in which the outstanding ‘Excuses’ shines with a light of its own. A final mention dedicated to those passionate for the ‘Wall of Sound’; the unbeatable ‘Delicatessen’.

Jack Beats
Jack Beats is British duo Niall Dailly (also in The Scratch Perverts) and Ben Geffin (The Mixologists). From the moment they came together back in 2007, they’ve become a must see of the British club scene.

Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club
Singer Gerard Whelan led, during part of the 90’s, Dublin’s band An Emotional Fish; who saw their first two single published by Mother, label owned by U2. In 2002, Gerard formed Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club. A project in which pop, jazz and lounge cohabit in a natural way. They’ve published two albums: ‘Be Yourself’ in 2002 and ‘The Beautiful Untrue’ in 2009.

Zombie Zombie
The French electronic duo and fans of first generation analog keyboards and horror movies, Zombie Zombie, is formed by Etienne Jaumet (keyboard) and Cosmic Neman (drums). They debuted in 2006 with the EP ‘Zombie Zombie’ and had their first album, ‘A Land for Renegades’ published by 2008. Their last album up-to-date ‘Plays John Carpenter’ includes 5 tracks for five classic moments of American director and creator of “Halloween”, among which ‘Halloween’ and ‘The Thing’ stand out.

O Emperor
Are a quintet from Waterford (Ireland) whose debut album, and the only one they’ve published up to date, ‘Hither Thither’ (2010) was placed among the first places in sales in their country. As the band says, this album could’ve been recorded in California back in 1968, although there are nu-folk, post-rock and ‘indie’ elements in it that give their contemporary influences away. From our point of view, ‘Hither Thither’ is a marvel that includes jewels such as ‘Don’t Mind Me’, in which Feet Foxes and Grizzly Bear blend together naturally.

Spectrals
Young Louis Jones is the name behind the Spectrals and ‘Extended Play’ (2010), title of his only published work up to date. Reverberating and crystalline guitars with a 60’s vocation and joyous pop melodies are the main ingredients of Jones’ magical recipe. Tracks such as ‘Peppermint’ or ‘7th Date’ won’t leave any good pop music lover indifferent.

And So I Watch You From Afar
Irish quartet based in Belfast And So I Watch from Afar, came together in 2005 and between 2007 and 2009 they published 3 EP’s and a homonymous album. Jonathan Adger (The Bearded Dragon), Rory Friers (The Chip), Tony Wright (The Grounded Pounder) and Chris Wee (The Big) create, an intense, instrumental rock somewhere between post-rock, hardcore and metal.

The 1945
The 1945, previously known as Three Times Daily, is a young pop-rock combo from the south of London that is currently working on publishing their second album ‘I Know’.

NME Award Winners 2011 announced

My Chemical Romance have been crowned this year’s biggest winners at the Shockwaves NME Awards, picking up two awards, for Best International Band (supported by T4) and Best Video(supported by NMETV) for ‘Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)’.  The New Jersey alt. rockers opened the star-studded ceremony – hosted by Angelos Epithemiou at O2 Academy Brixton – with a bang before returning to the stage to collect their reader-voted honours.
The music calendar’s most credible awards saw NME readers casting over three and a half million votes during the second stage of voting. Muse beat off stiff competition from Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro to land the prestigious Best British Band Award (supported by Shockwaves), adding yet another accolade in an impressive four-year run of triumphs at the Shockwaves NME Awards.
Singer-songwriter (and NME Cool List number one for 2010) Laura Marling accepted the award forBest Solo Artist. Outshining the likes of Kanye West in one of the year’s most hotly contested categories, Marling caps an incredible year in which her acclaimed second album ‘I Speak Because I Can’ has cemented her reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting acts.  Biffy Clyro, who jetted in from the United States – where they are currently touring – to attend the event, displaced perennial winners Muse to claim the coveted Best Live Band (supported by Carling).
Hurts, who performed their world-wide hit ‘Wonderful Life’ accompanied by a gothic-style dance troupe, were awarded Best New Band (supported by Boxfresh) – joining a long line of distinguished winners including Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons and MGMT.
Arcade Fire – who were unable to attend the awards – accepted the Best Album Award for their hugely powerful third album ‘The Suburbs’ via a jazz-inspired pre-recorded message.  Oxford quintet Foals secured the illustrious Best Track Award (supported by NME Radio) for ‘Spanish Sahara’, seeing off Cee-Lo Green, Gorillaz, Janelle Monae and Mark Ronson in the process.
With winners covering the musical gamut, the NME audience’s eclectic tastes also saw gongs awarded to Professor Green whose ‘Jungle’ single picked up Best Dancefloor Filler; Glastonbury, which won Best Festival for the third year in a row; and Channel 4’s Skins which was awarded theBest TV Show for the first time. The Naked and Famous were this year’s recipients of the Philip Hall Radar Award, named in honour of the late Manic Street Preachers manager to celebrate new talent and chosen by the NME editorial team. And Crystal Castles, who recently headlined the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour, accepted the John Peel Award For Innovation, presented by last year’s host Jarvis Cocker and his co-host Alexa Chung.
PJ Harvey performed tracks from her recently released ‘Let England Shake’ album after being presented with the Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution To Music award. And the highest honour of the evening, the Godlike Genius accolade, was awarded to Dave Grohl who fronted the Foo Fighters to close another incredible Shockwaves NME Awards night with a jubilant full set, including  classics and songs from their much anticipated forthcoming album, ‘Wasting Light’.
