Jimmy Carr, Justin Robinson and more added to Camp Bestival 2012

Following last week’s mega Camp Bestival announcement featuring Hot Chip, Kool & The Gang, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, The Young British Foodies, Mr Tumble and more festi-holiday brilliance than you can shake a stick at, we are very pleased to be able to announce our comedy headliner for 2012 and even more ace live acts and DJs.

Rob da Bank says: 'Comedy and comedians are a huge draw at Camp Bestival and we've had most of the bigguns down there but none so mammoth as our very special guest for this year… Mr Jimmy Carr! Well pleased that Jimmy’s going to be making us wet our pants (and nappies) with laughter on the Sunday of Camp B. Music-wise we're delighted Rolf Harris will join the fun with his wobble board and didgeridoo as well as King Creosote and Jon Hopkins and legendary drum and bass DJ LTJ Bukem alongside new talent Lianne La Havas, Ren Harvieu and Netsky'.

That’s right, strap up your sides because one of the best comedians currently on the stand up circuit, Perrier Award Winner Jimmy Carr, will be headlining our comedy line-up with a crowning appearance on Sunday evening.  A deadpan  quip machine the likes of which has rarely been seen, Jimmy cemented his fame as the presenter of 8 Out of 10 Cats and the 10 O’Clock Show but his live set is renowned for his quick fire style and ever so risqué gags making him a definite must-see at this year’s Camp Bestival.

We are also deeply honoured to be able to announce that a very special guest, the legendary Rolf Harris, will be joining us at Lulworth Castle this July! The term legend gets bandied about by all and sundry but when it comes to Rolf it's completely on the money, he really is a living legend. A complete smash hit when he played Bestival, we can't wait for him to wow Camp Bestival with his amazing didgeridoo and wobble board-powered sing-alongs that are sure to get the Castle stage crowd jumping for joy!

Other new acts joining the bill include from King Creosote and Jon Hopkins who were nominated for the Mercury Prize for their sublime Diamond Mine long player and if their Bestival set is anything to go by Fence Collective founder King Creosote and sometime Brian Eno collaborator Jon Hopkins will captivate the crowd with ease. There will also be live appearances from BBC Sound of 2012 shortlist tip Lianne La Havas whose soul vibrations have won her an army of influential admirers, Belgian drum n basser Netsky who will be imparting his love of liquid funk, another BBC Sound of 2012 candidate Ren Harvieu whose voice needs to be heard to be believed and a very welcome return visit from another Fence Collective stalwart James Yorkston

We’ve got even more DJs on board to ensure the Jurassic coastline is jumping during Camp Bestival weekend including one of the dons of drum n bass LTJ Bukem and erstwhile Lionrock and Revtone kingpin Justin Robertson. Plus there will be leftfield disco love fromSoft Rocks and reggae mash-up madness from Nice Up’s own DJ Shepdog.

And don’t forget everyone who gets their tickets before February 8th will be entered into our spectacular Camp Bestival Tombola with 100 festi-tastic prizes to be won from a Luxury Furnished Tipi in our Boutique Campsite to lots of Sunday Best goodie bags – click here for more information: www.campbestival.net/#/news/early-bird-tickets-the-camp-bestival-tombola-100-festi-tastic-prizes-to-be-won

Bestival announce theme and first acts for 2012

OrbitalWith some rather handsome Bestival announcements on the horizon, the mighty Rob da Bank and the Bestival crew are so excited that we just can’t contain ourselves! So, with that in mind, we’re going to ‘leak’ a few choice nuggets of loveliness for your delectation with12 new things for Bestival 2012 including our untamed fancy dress theme and a tantalising touch of live news.

Rob da Bank says: "I’ve never been pestered so much on Twitter and even in clubs and on the street about who’s playing Bestival this year so we thought we'd better start the proceedings. Legendary brothers of rave Paul and Phil Hartnoll aka Orbital are the first act who have self-announced themselves today…and what a classic to kick off on. As ever the theme of Bestival is a hotly debated topic – this year its Wildlife – so maybe you're thinking foxes, badgers or flamingos or go a bit more lateral and think of wild men and women, hedonists and crazy people? It’s an open book as ever. More news very soon!”

So, without further ado, here’s what’s brand new this year!

1) The theme for Bestival 2012 is Wildlife…We want you to unleash the party beast from the hinterlands of your imagination, covering Robin Hill with some properly wild things, from fantastic fauna, kings of the jungle and even organisms aplenty to just the outrageously wild… The sky is far from the limit of what can happen when you get amongst the wildlife….And we will also be launching our very own Insect Museum and Animal Tug of War.

2) Barter for Bestival – can’t afford a ticket? Then barter yourself to us for a few hours to help with an IOW charity legacy project in exchange for a free Bestival ticket! 50 people from far and wide will get the opportunity to help create a community allotment space working with Natural Enterprise.  Applications will open on 20th February when full details are announced so watch this space.?

3) Film is coming to Bestival in 2012 – new for 2012 are the Lost Picture Show – a vintage cinema to take you back to the golden age of movie going, plus Rob da Bank will be rescoring the 1930s original of King Kong at the brand new Amphitheatre performance space in the Woods with more film collaborations to be announced soon.

4) Soul Park – our new and expanded Healing Area will feature unique spaces for yoga, massage, relaxation, hammocks and meditation with the David Lynch Foundation plus wood-burning Scandinavian hot tubs and a sauna area.  Perfectly calm for when you just need to relax a little and refresh to get your positive energy recharged.?

5) Arcadia Mechanical Cabaret – not content with having invented the crazy mechanical spider that spits flames and has scared the living pants off us at the last few Bestis, Arcadia have now trawled the world for brand new structures and insane fire art to wow us with, much of it from Burning Man.

6) Young British Foodies – We’ve got the country’s finest young chefs, street food vendors, bakers and mixologists all under one roof! Winners of the nationwide search for the most talented Young British Foodies will be joined by the YBF all-star foodie judges to create a never-been-done-before, spectacular eating experience.

7) The Bollywood Bar is having a complete Josie da Bank makeover – with an old London bus being transformed into a Bollywood chill out bar in full Indian colours and the inside getting a cinematic Bollywood lick of paint.

8) Grand Palace of Entertainment – roll up roll up, we’ve cranked up the fun factor with this new venue! Expect twisted cabaret, raucous games and quizzes, dancing-lycra-clad-bearded trannies and multicolored, glitter strewn, late night parties. ?

9) More camping space – yes we may not be expanding on capacity onsite cos we know we’re the right size but we will be creating much more space for you… check out this aerial picture showing you all the new land we’ve taken.

10) Create a bloco for the Bestival Carnival – Your chance to unite with other festi-goers and get creative! We are inviting you to form your own bloco and be part of ourcarnival parade on Saturday afternoon. From fabulous costumes, to drumming, dancing and giant puppets, we can’t wait to see what delights you come up with! Details of how to enter coming soon.

11) Cycle To Bestival – emulate mighty Mark Cavendish with a truly Olympic effort to ride almost 100miles from Central London to Bestival…and raise cash for charity. More details will be available at the end of the month but you can get in training now if sounds like fun to you… on yer bike Bestivalites. ?

12) Rob da Bank’s Music Club – Are you a rock star in the making? Head to Rob da Bank’s Music Club to find out! This project, set up in partnership with the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, is coming to Robin Hill to offer up a brilliant selection music and arts workshops.

As well as all the brand spanking fresh stuff there’s going to be a healthy dose of unbridled joy on the dancefloor too, as Bestival are overjoyed to declare that dance music legends Orbital will be crossing the Solent to join us for an epicurean adventure, or as we used to call it a proper rave up, headlining the Big Top on Sunday night! Renowned for their festival annihilating brilliance and a dashing line in torch specs, the brothers Hartnoll are true pioneers of dance music and with a brand new album, ‘Wonky’ currently getting the critics all giddy, you can expect nothing less than a legendary set!

With many more acts to announce for Bestival 2012 and to build just a touch of anticipation for our headline announcements, Rob da Bank will be taking to his trusty Twitter announcing an act a day until mid-February when we’ll be announcing some headliner news. Until then, make sure you check the Twitter feed for news on some of the many acts that will be gracing Bestival 2012 with their presence.

GLADE STAGE

Featuring the best electronic talent around, the cross-genre Glade Stage is headlined by German techno-legend Sven Vath. Having enjoyed a hugely successful worldwide career spanning over 30 years, Sven is one of the founders of German techno and a driving force behind electronic dance music with his infamous Cocoon label, parties and nightclub. Famous for his marathon club-sets at Berlin’s notorious Dorian Grey to weekly parties in Ibiza to a non-stop global tour schedule, we are very pleased to welcome Sven to Glade.

Sven Vath said of performing: ‘I'm really looking forward to performing at this year's Glade Festival! I've heard a lot about this event, that it is a serious music lovers' festival with a great line up and most of all I'm looking forward to DJing in the great English countryside.’

Joint headlining is Drum & Bass hero Andy C who presents his jaw-dropping Alive stage show. Having spear-headed the scene since the early 90’s, Andy and his Ram Records label have been at the forefront of this UK dance explosion. His Alive show will see a unique audio / visual extravaganza closing the festival on Sunday. Joining these two prolific artists and rounding off our headliners is French techno don Vitalic, a man who has been decimating dance floors across the globe since the late 90s with his unique brand of electronic funk on labels such as International DJ Gigalo and PIAS.

Elsewhere on the line up we see a quality mixture of proper electronic music taking in the progressive from the sublime Robert Babicz, techno from German scene-leaders Marc Romboy and Extrawelt. Drum n Bass is represented by UK duo Drumsound and Bassline Smith whilst Rusko brings the Dubstep and Radio 1 DJ and Sheffield’s pin up Toddla T joins Don Letts for a dub, reggae and beyond set on Sunday.

The Glade Stage also represents live music with US sensation Pretty Lights performing alongside festival stalwarts The Dub Pistols and British hip-hop, grime and dubstep super group Foreign Beggars.

With plenty more talent performing and another exclusive headliner yet to be announced, expect nothing but the best, whatever the genre – all weekend.

PSYCHEDELIC VILLAGE

The Glade is proud to call itself the UK’s spiritual home of psychedelic culture and the Psychedelic Village is a celebration of this. With the mighty Origin Stage at the heart of this area playing host to Nano Records 10th Birthday Party and much more powered by glorious Funktion 1, this stage will be banging come rain or shine. This year we are more than chuffed to welcome back the Liquid Stage, which will run from dusk til dawn in our beautiful new forest area (more on that below…) and playing host to the cream of the UK scene. Providing respite from the onslaught of EDM no Glade would be complete without InSpiral who this year focus on chillout with a superb line up to make your journey complete.

This year we also welcome the team that built the incredible Ozora festival over the past seven years to join us. They will be helping with the décor and production throughout the Village and much more.

Elsewhere expect healing areas, a psychedelic cinema, World Shift, talks, art, food and so much more… Come and join us. This is going to be proper… it really is.

NEW WOODED AREA!

That’s right… we’ve got a lovely wooded area for you to play in this year! The wooded area will play host to two stages; the Liquid Stage and our new open-air dance floor The Meteor that lies in a crater inside the forest. More on that to follow in future announcements! Elsewhere expect hot tubs, spas and many more treats.

Drake, Wiz Khalifa and Example added Barclaycard Wireless Festival 2012

DrakeUK superstar Example, Pennsylvanian rap lyricist Wiz Khalifa (this will be his only UK show of 2012) and London rap star Professor Green will also join the bill. With Rihanna already confirmed to headline Sunday 8 July, Barclaycard Wireless Festival is set to be an unmissable weekend in London’s iconic Hyde Park.

Canadian born rapper Drake is a bona fide superstar. His recent critically acclaimed album ‘Take Care’, released late last year, debuted atop the Billboard Top 100 chart whilst in the UK it went in at number five with the biggest first week sales figure of any US hip hop artist in the UK last year. His spring UK arena tour also sold out in an incredible 24 hours, shifting more than 100,000 tickets in the process! A dynamic and passionate performer renowned for his energetic performances and creative stage designs, Drake’s Barclaycard Wireless Festival performance is sure to be a powerful and visual spectacle.

Example will be back in full force this summer, hitting Barclaycard Wireless Festival for his forth year in a row. His latest studio album ‘Playing in the Shadows’ released in September last year, debuted at number one on the UK Album Charts and has already spawned two number one singles – ‘Changed The Way You Kiss Me’ and ‘Stay Awake’.  Example says:

"This will be my 4th year in a row at Wireless. We must be doing something right! I feel like part of the furniture now. Over the years I've moved up from stage to stage and played bigger slots but I can honestly say every one of them was equally epic. Whether it was opening the main stage or closing one of the smaller tents the crowd was always packed and buzzing with energy. The backdrop of Hyde Park adds a certain air of heritage and great tradition to the whole event. I can't wait."

Wiz KhalifaPittsburgh’s hottest export, rap lyricist Wiz Khalifa, will bring his East Coast hip-hop to Hyde Park, this will be his only UK performance of 2012.  A rising star with a young bravado and a charismatic execution of rhymes.  His smash hit single ‘Black and Yellow’, taken from his debut album ‘Rolling Papers’, went top five in the UK last year and hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Professor Green will make a return to the Barclaycard Wireless Festival stage in 2012. The Hackney rapper’s debut album ‘Alive Til I’m Dead’, went to number two on the UK charts and included the smashes ‘I Need You Tonight’ and ‘Just Be Good To Green’. His latest album ‘At Your Inconvenience’ was released late last year with the recent single ‘Read All About It’ hitting number one, cementing him as a bonafide weapon in the UK music scene. Professor Green said:

"I'm really excited to be performing at Wireless again. Wireless 2010 was a real highlight of that year. The tent was a roadblock and it was lively. I'm confident that this year it will be bigger and better and I can't wait to get back on that stage in Hyde Park. Roll on the summer…"

Over on the Fusion Stage, through the cobbled streets and ramparts Portuguese world music sensation Buraka Som Sistema make a welcome return to EXIT. Effortless blending techno beats with the African kuduro genre, Buraka Som Sistema are renowned for their energetic and explosive troupe of dancers and MCs. Pushing cutting edge new talent and tipping its hat to the old school, the music in the arena never disappoints and the experience of dancing with 20,000 people as the sun rises over the fortress walls is truly mind blowing!  2012 is set to be another year of unadulterated electronic music of the highest calibre and these names are a taster of what’s to come.

Swiss-Chilean DJ and producer Luciano who worked his way up the ranks alongside many of the initiators of the Latin Merican electronic music scene. Now living in Switzerland his mixed Chilean and Swiss identity shows in his music with a mystical blend of deep techno and electro and a colourful splash of rhythms alongside his trademark groovy and minimal beats. Reboot is another returning artist to look forward to, with another awe inspiring live performance from the German musician whose DJ sets incorporate the whole spectrum from deep minimal sounds to driving electronic-tech vibes and old school house. Kenny Larkin is one of the world leaders of Detroit techno in the electronic music industry and has mesmerized crowds across the globe for nearly twenty years with his music and he will do the same the summer in the EXIT Dance Arena. Hailing as one of Beatportals’ artists to watch in 2009 Robert Dietz has honed his musical prowess on the Frankfurt club scene to create his own hypnotic, sexy, nuanced take on electronic music. And last but by no means least is Maayan, whose global upbringing has resulted in the creation of a diverse sound that includes an ass friendly sense of the groove and a bubbling sense of funk with a wooly low end and crystalline highs.
