Magda, Redshape and more added to Croatia’s Echo Festival

The new festival site in Kanegra is situated near the picturesque town of Umag and boasts an idyllic location for an intimate festival soiree. Set on one of the most beautiful bays in Istria, immersed in Mediterranean vegetation and surrounded by deep woodland, Echo Festival will present a 4 days and 4 nights of perfectly programmed electronic frequencies, spanning multiple genres and generations of artists.

Echo are delighted to reveal their second wave of artists for 2013, they include the former first lady of M_nus – a driving force behind twenty-first century Techno, and a trio of some of the world’s most remarkable live performance DJs.

Magda is an artist who can never be pinned down, no matter the timeframe or time signature. Any one of the Detroit-raised artist’s sets or productions breed a rare feel of mystique and discovery.  Her accidental entry into Detroit’s underground party scene as a teenager was the kick-start she needed for a lifelong love affair. In 1998, she joined M_nus and began touring the world as Richie Hawtin’s sole opener. Stylistically, Magda grooves through opposition – creating sets that are emotion-led yet clinical, having profound expertise with analogue and digital technology. Her sound is otherworldly but visceral; dark with a warm sense of beauty and grace. Magda’s DJing style has been encapsulated on her mix for London club Fabric ‘Fabric 49′ (a mix CD with as much artistry and vision as an original album). Magda’s label, ‘Items & Things’, always pinpoints the off-kilter and the uncommon, seeking out new artists and sounds that push boundaries.

We would tell you all about Redshape, but no one knows who he actually is. He hides his real identity behind a red mask at all times, even wearing it onstage at his club dates around Europe, which of late there have been many. We do know the man behind the mask lives in Berlin, he does a rocking live act and he's released half a dozen tracks over the last year or so on labels such as Delsin and Music Man. We also can reveal he has studied a lot of old Detroit techno records: His sound is a new update on old school templates, and it's getting a thorough rinsing by DJs as diverse as Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Âme and Cassy.

John Roberts creates music that is meticulous and loose, evocative and innovative. Raised in the so-called heart of America, John's parents exposed him to classical and jazz music at an early age and encouraged his fifteen-year training on drums and violin. As he began to gain interest in contemporary European house and techno, John began working with analog synthesizers, antiquated sequencing software, and reel-to-reel tape machines. In 2008 Roberts was asked by Carsten Jost, Pantha Du Prince, and Lawrence to be the first American artist on their influential Dial Records imprint. The 2010 release of his debut album, “Glass Eights”, cemented his position as one of electronic music’s top innovators. 2013 will see the release of his second album, “Fences”.

Joining them will be Toi Toi featuring: Audio WernerVoigtmann and Lamache. Audio Werner has made a great contribution to underground electronic music not only as a producer and DJ, but also as a live performer. During the past year he has been concentrating on his new live set that he performed for the first time at ‘Get Perlonized’ at Panorama Bar in November 2012 proving to be a huge success. He will debut this highly regarded live performance at Echo Festival 2013 this summer.

Kendrick Lamar added to Flow Festival lineup

Kendrick Lamar, whose debut album Good Kid, m.A.A.d City went to the top of the U.S. album chart and pleased both fans and critics, will be performing at the Flow Festival in August. He has been praised for his live shows and these days the championship belt of West Coast rap rests comfortably around this 25-year-old's waist. Lamar's raps and sounds have also been endorsed by rap-royalty such as his label boss Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

Kendrick Lamar

Flow will also feature two hotly tipped newcomers as California-based Haim and London-based AlunaGeorge join the lineup. With their fresh blend of r'n'b and indie pop, Haim's group of sisters were voted to the top of BBC's Sound of 2013 list. It makes the band's debut eagerly expected. The top of the BBC ranking also featured AlunaGeorge, whose hits Your Drums, Your Love and You Know You Like It have made their mark with a marriage of electro-pop and swaying r'n'b. Their debut, Body Music, is also one of the summer's most anticipated debuts.

Earlier, artists such as Kraftwerk, The Knife, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Azealia Banks, Of Monsters & Men and Solange have been announced in the lineup.

The tenth Flow Festival will be held 7–11 August 2013 in Suvilahti, Helsinki.

Soundwave Festival Croatia announce full lineup

Bringing together a list of artists to surpass all that has gone before – from stunning live acts to truly talented producers and the very best sound systems – Soundwave Festival Croatia hosts three stages (and a boat) over five days, as revellers are invited to enjoy the finest boutique festival experience in the ultimate sun-drenched location.

Having curated an intelligent selection of acts that sit at the forefront of their genres, Soundwave Festival Croatia is proud to announce it plays host to Bonobo, DOOM (MF DOOM), Quantic live with Ondatropica and Robert Glasper Experiment as their very special guests. Joining them on the bill are Alice Russell, Ghostpoet, Submotion Orchestra, Riot Jazz, Craig Charles, Com Truise and Channel One Sound System and a whole list of others, making a trip to Soundwave a priority stop on the summer music festival calendar.

Soundwave Festival Croatia’s prominent live aspect ensures a veritable feast of first-class performers. Bonobo brings forward-thinking electronica, with a full live band promising an unforgettable experience. His is one of UK electronica’s most enigmatic live shows. Creating a new sound, Quantic live with Ondatropica reinterprets the tropical musical heritage of Columbia; cheerful collision of styles, there’s everything here from cumbia dance to salsa, and the rhythms of gaita, ska, hip hop, dub and, most of all, fun.

MF DOOM is one of the biggest names in hip hop with slick beats, eccentric wordplay and a unique, sample-heavy production style that is recognised the world over. Robert Glasper Experiment explores fusions of jazz and hip hop. Boldly staking out new musical territory, they transcend genres, drawing from jazz, hip-hop, R&B and rock.

Alice Russell – a British favourite and a true talent who has collaborated with the likes of Fatboy Slim and Mr Scruff – ranges from samba-infused Latin with tinges of uplifting jazz and funk to a more laidback, hip hop and soul-inspired sound. Mercury Prize nominee Ghostpoet brings his innovative mix of rap and musicality – exciting things from this singer and producer who promises a new album in the spring. Submotion Orchestra is one of the UK’s most interesting and original outfits; drawing upon dubstep, soul, ambient electronica, jazz and dub, their unique music is atmospheric but firmly rooted.

Channel One Soundsystem add the roots and culture flavour from one of the best soundsystems in the world. Com Truise is a true synth enthusiast – a musician whose striking album ‘Galactic Melt’ received praise across the board. Craig Charles – whose Funk and Soul show on BBC Radio 6 Music has a cult following – brings a soulful vibe.

Anchorsong, Kidkanevil and Kelpe deliver their mind-blowing displays of live electronic music including atmospheric favourites, reinterpreted dubstep and slick hip hop samples. Riot Jazz go big and brass. Eliphino had an amazing year in 2012 dabbling in the UK house and garage sound, which he brings to Soundwave. High-energy DJ sets come from the likes of Tempo Clash favourite Om Unit, underground name Kutmah, the inimitable Flako and Jonny Dub, who will get the party moving as they lay down their experimental beats.

Acclaimed British hip hop producer Mr Thing joins the fray. And quality hip hop productions will be championed by the likes of the hotly tipped New Yorker Homeboy Sandman and Chicago-via-Detroit sample-smith Tall Black Guy. Hoya:Hoya’s Jon K and Illum Sphere make an appearance, as do soul and funk connoisseurs Scrimshire, and futuristic sampler Memory9. Ghostly’s prolific one-to-watch Shigeto brings his ambient and explorational production, and Ninja Tune’s dynamic duo Letherette bring their dreamy beats and unique blend of hip hop, R&B and soulful house live. And there’s lots more.

Soundwave Festival Croatia is the place to let loose, unwind and party to quality hip hop, reggae, soul and funk this summer. Set in a secret cove at the heart of Tisno and right on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, The Garden is an utterly beautiful backdrop to one of Europe’s finest boutique festivals. Whether you stay on-site, camp close to the action, or hire an apartment or villa – the site is just a short walk from the small town of Tisno in this idyllic part of Croatia, which sits between Zadar and Split airports. Beady Eye & Laurent Garnier added to T in the Park lineup

Music lovers can get their hands on the ultimate festival ticket of the summer fromwww.tinthepark.com or www.ticketmaster.co.uk or call 08444 999 990.

Beady Eye

With an international line-up of chart toppers, Grammy winners, pioneering trailblazers, rising stars and Scotland’s finest home-grown heroes, the T in the Park 2013 bill is off to a roaring start, with yet more top acts added today.

Liam Gallagher played the first ever T in the Park with Oasis back in 1994, and returns for the 20th year with new outfit Beady Eye. Also featuring former Oasis members Gem Archer and Andy Bell, plus drummer Chris Sharrock, Beady Eye are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album, the follow-up to the acclaimed Different Gear, Still Speeding.

Pioneering DJ Laurent Garnier is one of the leading lights in French dance music. A multi-faceted artist whose impact on the music scene is far-reaching, the turntable connoisseur's incredible sets use Techno from Detroit and beyond, with hints of jazz, disco, house, African grooves, and jungle and dubstep basslines.

On the strength of just two EPs, His Young Heart and The Wild YouthDaughter have amassed themselves a dedicated following. The London-based trio of Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella release their debut album If You Leave in March.

Camden’s Tribes were christened “the future of rock’n'roll” by The Mystery Jets, a sentiment chimed by everyone from NME to Radio 1′s Huw Stephens and Zane Lowe, the latter of whom named their debut single Sappho Hottest Record In The World. Their second album Wish To Scream is set to be released in May.

The Prodigy, Calvin Harris, Wu Tang Clan and more for Balaton Sound

The Prodigy is a must-have star for any festival main stage, after 25 million sold albums and an amazing popularity through the years. Probably the most successful British electronic formation has surprised the fans with a concert album two years ago. Besides their big hits, we will hear new songs from their new album ’How to Steal a Jet Fighter’.

Calvin Harris is one of the biggest names today in the mainstream electronic music scene. Last year he had a massive show in Zamárdi and this year his track ’We Found Love’, in collaboration with Rihanna, received a Grammy. The Scottish DJ makes perfect party songs with a hint of electro house sound and this year he arrives with a brand new program to the event.

One of the most important hip-hop formations, Wu Tang Clan, truly belongs to music history. The New York clan was formed in 1993, so this year they are celebrating their 20th jubilee with a gigantic tour. They are working on a new album and in Zamárdi all the eight founding members will perform, except ODB, on the biggest stage of Balaton Sound.

Armin van Buuren has closed last year’s Balaton Sound with some fireworks and an uplifting, energetic, massive set. This year he comes back with his ‘A State of Trance 2013’ collection to remind the fans of what quality trance really means. The collection is based on his radio show that is close to the 600th episode, reaching out to twenty-five million fans. Based on these numbers it is quite possible that his show will be the biggest among all.

He is easily recognizable for his unique eclectic house sets, Jamie Jones, has become a prominent icon of the industry at the late 2000s. He made the mix for the 59th album of the Fabric series and worked with the Cocoon label of Sven Väth, but based on his success for three years now he has his own label, Hot Creation. He is unstoppable, last year he has conquered the British charts with ’Benediction’ and this year Jamie can prove his talent at his European tour.

Italian music background and Swedish pop hits have influenced the songs of Alesso, a Stockholm-born Italian DJ. Accordingly, he doesn’t have close ties with the Italian, but the Swedish House Mafia and with his easy-going, monumental dance music he had several sold-out parties.

The abstract and enchanted songs of Crystal Castles are closer to the noise and art rock bands of the 80s new wave than to the parties of the 2000s. However, they made one of the most important albums of the decade in 2008. Since, they became popular on the dance floor with their song ‘Not in Love’ in 2010, a collaboration with Robert Smith from Cure, and this year the crowd can enjoy their strange music in Zamárdi.

You cannot organize an electronic music festival in 2013 without the show of one of the members of Swedish House Mafia. This year out of the trio, Axwell, is definitely coming to Lake Balaton. Moreover, he is the most influential character of the music mafia as there were hardly any electronic pop music recordings from Sweden that he did not assist to. While Swedish is usually gold and a world-success in pop music; Axwell as well plays in the biggest parties on the biggest stages with the best tracks.

Henrik Schwarz is a music gourmand, without any overstatement. One of the iconic DJs of the Berlin clubs not only makes gigantic parties in the most popular clubs in Berlin but also works together with jazz bands at jazz festivals too. His sophisticated but melodic sets will definitely make the crowd dance in Zamárdi. The fans can take it for granted that they will party to one of the most interesting music projects of the German capital by the Lake.

The name of The Advent means the arrival of another icon to Zamárdi. For a decade now the duo became a one-man project, being revolutionary in techno music. The Portuguese Cisco Ferreira is not only known as a London DJ, but for being a sound engineer as well. He is constantly working on new sounds and he is a pioneer in electronic live acts with making all of his shows a real and unique experience.

In the Anglo-Saxon world it is pretty well-known what hip-hop is all about and it’s positive that the Australian Iggy Azaela will be “Die Antwoord” of 2013. The cool blond MC is easy-going and in herself a real hip-hop production, laughing at the iconic characteristics and gestures of the genre. Born in Sydney, living in LA, the MC lady made a huge success with her video Pu$$y. Her self-confidence could not be more declared than the title of her new album ‘The New Classic’.

The name of Belzebass promises massive bass sounds and the two crazy Italians, Michele and Riccardo, won’t let the audience down. Anything that comes in their way, from metal through techno, hardcore to nu rave, they collect everything and use it for some hard-core electro trash party.

Berlin-based Swedish DJ, Jan Blomqvist, merges Swedish pop style with the German capitals minimal sets. The former bass-guitarist for Hexenhaus and songwriter DJ plays with his audience as he wants: by knowing everything needed for a good party and making it happen. So stay tuned for Jan Blomqvist live at Balaton Sound!

The Canadian Fairmont, originally Jake Fairley, is a fan of the electronic sounds and apparatus of the 70s and 80s. No surprise, he invites the two decades and modern electro and techno music to meet each other in his sets. Fairmont makes music with special atmosphere and an exciting taste.

Paloma Faith & The Vaccines to headline Evolution Festival

Paloma Faith is the queen of retro soul and sassy pop and this this complete (and petite!) performer commands the stage with her rabble rousing shows.

Performing tracks from her two highly acclaimed albums ‘Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful’ and ‘Fall To Grace’ Paloma has been nominated for Best Female Solo Artist and Best British Album at the Brit Awards.

Paloma Faith

The Vaccines are arguably the best live band in the country and have been nominated as one of the best live acts at the Brit Awards.  The band are also shortlisted in the Best British Band and Best Album categories at the upcoming NME Awards.  Their ‘Come Of Age’ album entered the chart at number 1 and they continue to spearhead the UK’s garage / indie rock movement

Jake Bugg has taken the music world by storm over the last 12 months, seemingly appearing from nowhere to becoming one of the most acclaimed artists in the country.  His eponymous debut album reached number 1 in the charts and has been a permanent fixture in the top 10 ever since.  This 18 year old somehow manages to sound retro and yet absolutely modern and his set is sure to be one of the defining Evolution moments.

One of the UK’s most singular and compelling songwriters Ellie Goulding has found international acclaim with her albums ‘Lights’ and ‘Halcyon’.  Halcyon saw Ellie laying her emotions bare, a journey out of heartbreak and into hope.  Back on track her live performances earned rave reviews in 2012 and this is the first opportunity to catch Ellie at a festival in 2013.

Rudimental are the new drum & bass dons, tearing up clubs where ever they perform and this is a rare chance to catch them live as they bring the sound of the dance floor to Evolution.  Bastille have been cited as the most exciting thing to happen in indie for a long time.  Fronted by Dan Smith the band quietly built a fan base before releasing their debut album Bad Blood which has spawned a number of big radio records over the past few months.

London based duo, AlunaGeorge are the name on all the critics lips in 2013.  Having been together for barely a year, this talented duo’s infectious mixes are immersed in sweet harmonies and electronic charm.  Nominated for both the BBC Sound of 2013 and the Brits Critics Choice award, catch them at Evolution before they go stratospheric.

The Strypes are undoubtedly the hottest band in the world right now.  This four piece rhythm and blues band from Ireland viciously hammer out their no-nonsense blues repertoire and have already met with critical acclaim from greats such as Jeff Beck and Paul Weller for their outstanding live shows.  This is a must not miss performance at Evolution.

Headlining the dance stage are two of the most gargantuan names in electronic music Sub Focus and Modestep both of whom will be performing live.

Sub Focus is one of the superstars of bass music, a production obsessive whose attention to detail is matched only by the raw spectacle of his incredible live show.  A bone fide cross over artist Sub Focus is that rare thing in dance
music, someone who can keep one foot in the underground and still have credible radio hits all of which he will be performing for the Evolution crowd.

Modestep fused dubstep and electronic rock to devastating effect on their debut album ‘Evolution Theory’.  Their sound is a hybrid of heavy rock riffs, brutal synths and bludgeoning synth breaks, all connected together by soulful pop led vocal melodies.  Modestep slay audiences wherever they play.

Other acts confirmed for Evolution include the 21st century soul of rising local star Lulu James, Nas protégé Arlissa, the haunting acoustic indie and folk of Sunderland’s The Lake Poets, Grime superstar Lethal Bizzle, Radio 1 and 1xtra supremo MistaJam and drum & bass / breakstep overlord Zinc.

T in the Park 20th Anniversary Launch Event Review

Swap the wellies for high heels and replace the poncho's for shirts and you have the launch night of T in the Park. With artificial grass, wooden picnic tables and fairy lights the venue had been turned in to T in the Park, with a roof. The opening act was Fatherson (http://www.facebook.com/fathersonband ) who have played at T in the Park the last two years and opened for the likes of Panic! at the Disco, Feeder and Twin Atlantic. Ross Leighton, vocals of the band has a soft controlled voice that captures the room and with songs that don't contain awful cliché lyrics like a lot of bands, it was a pleasant breath of fresh air.

The next band on the stage were Vigo Thieves who were gracefully in sync with one another and had such an effortless presence that demanded your attention. After listening to some of their songs on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/vigothieves) I would say their recorded tracks do their live performance no justice. After selling out one of their dates for their ep launch in King Tuts Glasgow I can tell they'll definitely have a warm welcome from their fan base at this years T in the Park.

Geoff Ellis, one of the founders of T in the Park explained that last year when many UK festivals were shut down due to bad weather conditions, that T in the Park was never at such a risk thanks to the hard work and determination of all staff sorting out the grounds. It's possible for this reason, among the amazing line ups and crowds that gather year after year that T in the Park for crowned "International festival of the year" at the Pollstar Awards in LA earlier this month. With 2013 being T in the Park's 20th anniversary you can expect it to be even bigger than last, but will you be there? Tickets go on sale on Friday 22nd of February at 9am. Make sure you don't miss out.
