New Super-Club Launches in the North East: The Loft, Pete Tong to headline the launch

The biggest club launch that the North East has seen in a decade is set for August bank holiday weekend featuring one of the most iconic names in dance music.

BBC Radio 1 legend Pete Tong and Horse Meat Disco open the venue on Friday 27th with support from Charlie Hedges, Mighty Mouse and Natasha Kitty Katt.

Local resident DJs John Dance, Jonny Burn and Kev Cannon will be on support duties all weekend.

There are few individuals in the world of dance music who can claim the kind of influence Pete Tong has had over the last twenty years.

As the voice of BBC Radio 1’s prestigious dance programming, Pete has held a commanding presence over the industry for more than two decades  With an unparalleled ear for new talent, Tong has become the leading tastemaker of the electronic generation.  Quite simply, an industry icon.

Also appearing on Friday night are the UK’s finest disco collective, Horse Meat Disco.

The four-strong DJ collective of Jim Stanton, James Hillard, Luke Howard and Severino Panzetta have become a mainstay of leading festival stages and with monthly residencies in London, New York, Berlin and Lisbon they have established themselves as one of the world’s most successful disco club brands.

Behind this exciting new project are John Dance, Marty Smith and Rob Seaman. With over 30 years experience in the music industry Marty has key local knowledge in the North East’s nightlife scene, working at some of the region’s most famous venues.

Directors behind The Lofts l-r Rob Seaman, John Dance, Marty Smith

Rob has worked in the Balearic Islands since the early 90s.  During his time there he was Director of the world famous Café Mambo where he was instrumental in bringing BBC Radio 1’s weekly broadcasts to the venue. He also worked with Pete Tong on his Wonderland nights and the Swedish House Mafia during their inaugural year at Pacha.

He then moved to Mallorca, working as VIP Director for Ibiza Rocks before launching the groundbreaking youth concept hotel BH Mallorca with its 7,000 capacity live events venue and festival level production.

Rob brings with him an incredible wealth of experience, expertise and a network of talent that would be hard to match.

Says Rob:

‘Our aim is to build on the excellent reputation Newcastle already has and raise its profile still further. We are booking international artists from different genres and can mix up the styles on the same night in the different rooms. We will have something to offer everyone at The Lofts and look forward to welcoming music fans not just from the local area but from throughout the UK’.

Glam Shoreditch unveils new opening dates and announces David Morales as exclusive resident

Amand Van Helden, Louie Vega, Jeremy Underground, Bellaire and more to join Morales in playing the opening weeks at the premium club

Opening Date: 24th July

Tickets & Info: https://www.glamshoreditch.com/

Glam Shoreditch is a brand new and standout club that brings light, love, colour and charisma back to the fore. After a postponement due to the latest Coronavirus-restrictions, the game-changing space will offer luxury indulgence with high-end design and an authentic, heartfelt house soundtrack as soon as it opens on July 24th. Playing that historic party will be the carefully selected team of residents Natasha Kitty Katt, Neil Pearce, Ceri, The Mendenez Brothers, Smiggy Smalls and Bhavik, while brand new resident and globally acclaimed house icon David Morales plays the 31st and then every two weeks after whilst house superstars that are Louis Vegas and vocalist Anane play August 7th

Impressive new resident David Morales has done it all, from winning Grammy Awards to remixing Bjork, Kylie Minogue, Janet Jackson and tens more. He has always defined his own unique brand of house while headlining every major club and festival in the world. He is one of the genre’s most pioneering figures and someone who plays with infectious passion and rare knowledge each and every time. He has released on the world’s most iconic labels and is a living legend who is exactly the right fit for Glam and is sure to light up the club each and every time. What a signing!

As well as Morales, the first few months at Glam offer plenty of mouth-watering treats. It all kicks off with the talented residents who are a mix of assured talents and red hot up and comers – Matasha Kitty Katt, Neil Pearce, Ceri, The Mendenez Brothers, Smiggy Smalls and Bhavik. Then brand new resident David Morales plays the 31st and then every two weeks after, and Louis Vegas – a studio wizard and one half of Masters At Work – and vocalist Anane play August 7th. On August 28th, Parisian hero, famously obsessive record collector and passionate selector Jeremy underground brings his eclectic bag of US house with Bellaire, with many more headliners to come.

Glam Shoreditch is a new project from old friends Paul Nelson and Carl McCormick. For years, Carl was deeply entrenched in the London scene of the 90s. He was hosting parties with the likes of Masters At Work, Miguel Migs, Dave Lee and Eric Prydz at legendary venues including The Arches on Southwalk Street, and even locked in Danny Rampling as resident in 1995 at Aquarium. Paul, meanwhile, was the first person to ever get a legal rave license for his legendary Raindance events. As such, this scene runs deep in their soul.

They first met at Carl’s Masters at Work party in Arches in 1992 when he was a student about to graduate from his Fashion PR degree at University Of Arts. They then launched Aquarium in 1995, a hugely influential venue that ushered in the clubbing revolution that took hold in Shoreditch in the ensuing years. Back then, way ahead of their time, the promoters focused on dressing up the venue in luxury fabrics, with exotic lighting and premium clientele who liked to dress up to get down. The club was famously inclusive and welcoming to all. A place where every race, gender and sexuality came together as one. Many modern dance floors now strive for this mix. But it has always come naturally to this pair, and will very much define the latest chapter in their ongoing love story with clubland.

Says Carl,“I cut my teeth at the always beautifully designed and luxuriant Renaissance with its world-class DJs, and I’m not gunna lie, it’s a huge inspiration for what we are doing with Glam Shoreditch. The club is just what everyone needs right now – something that’s high-end, super special in every way, but never too stuffy or elitist. We’re proudly going against the grain and redefining the glossy glam of the 90s with a contemporary soundtrack.”

Each weekend, the fully renovated club will stimulate your every sense with plush drapes, dangling chandeliers, warming backlights and a host of wild characters, from drag queens to burlesque dancers. It will be flamboyant and full of the disco dazzle that made the likes of Puscha, Malibu Staceys, Velvet Underground, Milk Club, Georgie Parties such a cult spot, but always with a no-nonsense, proper house soundtrack.

The utterly sensual Glam Shoreditch offers three unique spaces. The famous pool has gone and been replaced with the VIP Phoenix Lounge in partnership with Ciroc. There is also the mid-sized main room for headliner action, and the magnificent Salon Privé, a cocktail lounge serving contemporary fusion food, with live, cosy, unplugged soul and jazz shows in a stylish art deco setting reminiscent of the roaring twenties.

Glam Shoreditch promises something truly different. Make sure you’re a part of the story.

BSH Island Announces Full Line up as Croatia Drops all Travel and Event Restrictions on July 1st

Jamie Jones, Ilario Alicante, Paco Osuna, Richy Ahmed

Marco Faraone, Dennis Cruz and Sidney Charles all play

The long wait is nearly over and the final countdown can begin to this year’s much anticipated, bigger than ever BSH Island from July 1st – 5th. Following the safe and successful pre-party with Dennis Cruz’s that took place this weekend in Zagreb, the stunning open-air weekender brings a real taste of Ibiza to Croatia with legendary White Isle nightclub Amnesia hosting a very special Sunset Session party at a spectacular 17th-century Fortress on Friday July 2nd. Musically, every shade of upfront house and techno is covered with style and depth thanks to agenda-stetting headliners across the weekend like Ibiza favourites Jamie Jones and Marco Faraone playing the Fortress, and Ilario Alicante, plus Spanish techno titan Paco Osuna, UK house sensation Richy Ahmed, Spanish hitmaker Dennis Cruz and fellow underground tastemaker Sidney Charles all playing Noa Beach Club, one of the most impressive and stylish venues in the Adriatic region boasting epic views of the crystal blue sea. Tickets are now available for the BSH Island program from https://www.festicket.com/festivals/bsh-island-festival

The Amnesia Fortress lineup has just got bigger! Due to circumstances out of our control they have had to change the lineup but….. Amnesia have pulled it right out of the bag and now confirmed is Jamie Jones from Paradise, Marco Faraone from Pyramid and Amnesia resident Luca Donzelli soundtracking what’s sure to be a party of epic proportions.  This magical off-location sunset showcase has been confirmed to take place at the spectacular Fortress of Pa on Friday July 2nd from 4pm to 11pm on the island of Pag as the highlight of the BSH Island music weekender at this truly unforgettable setting.

Just in time to save the Croatia summer season, the beautiful country will be welcoming visitors on July 1 as long as they provide a negative test result, are fully vaccinated with proof or have recovered from the virus. This also means that events will have no restrictions for those who are in possession of an EU Digital Covid certificate, which is great news not only for people wanting to party again but also for the events sector in Croatia.

Amnesia’s Fortress party is part of the vast offerings across the full weekender, which will go down at an iconic 17th century fortress. Meanwhile, cutting-edge brands like Do Not Sleep, Under No Illusion Recordings and Pablo’s House are all set to host stages with after- hours sessions at the equally essential Kalypso Club.

As if that wasn’t enough, there will also be an Amnesia Fortress afterparty on board the Queen Elegenza. It is a beautifully crafted cruise ship with a gorgeous sun deck fitted with sun loungers and a Croatian crew who will provide warm hospitality and service as you gaze out to sea and soak up some rays in a luxury setting. There will also be some private parties with headline DJs to be announced as the yacht cruises from the Fortress back to Noa Beach Club for the rest of the program on Friday 2nd of July. There will also be an additional afterparty on 3rd of July after Noa Beach Club and an unmissable Yacht Sunset Session on 4th of July.

Or, you can enjoy a premium paradise experience with a Yacht package staying in one of 18 plush cabins featuring wardrobes, flat-screen TVs, dressing tables, en suite bathroom and twin or double beds. The package includes 4 nights on a yacht stationed at Noa Beach Club, BSH Island Yacht parties and afterparties, a backstage festival pass cruise to Amnesia Fortress from Noa and cruise from the fortress back to Noa with breakfast and dinner included.

BSH Island is famous for organising one of the very few European events that went ahead on the famous Zrce beach last summer “Keep The Distance”. It successfully followed all epidemic rules and safety measures in the famous location which usually hosts the likes of Sonus and Hideout. Now it has evolved into a huge open-air weekender with a reputation to match. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to dance in a historic setting during the much anticipated main BSH Island in July.

1. Gonçalo & Anna Tur – Caught in the Club

2. Gonçalo & Anna Tur – Caught in the Club (Spartaque remix)

3. Gonçalo & Anna Tur – Kap Evening

LOWLITA Records was born from the union of the set of values, connections and experiences of its creators: Gonçalo Miranda, Anna Tur and Hosse. A label with an identity and foundations based on the groove of house music and its fusion with techno and industrial forcefulness. Their first release is by Gonçalo and Anna Tur, who in recent years have reached a perfect understanding on an artistic level. An extraordinary synergy that can be perceived both in their multiple performances together as well as in joint projects and in the studio. And the proof of this is in the two original tracks that make up the EP “Caught in the Club”. The homonymous track “Caught in the Club” opens the EP, an intense track with vocals that manage to lift the listener. The rhythmic base and the bass give off bursts of energy that maintain the tension throughout its more than seven minutes. The small melodic touches of the synth bring freshness to the track that will not go unnoticed in any set.

The EP continues with a remix by Spartaque that is 100% forcefulness from the first second. There is no room for respite, the acid bassline and the inclusion of the vocals support the leitmotif of the original track. The upward drop midway through the composition really blows up the track, marking a before and after in a set. The appearance of the syncopated and epic synth is as surprising as it is unforgettable, making “Caught in the Club” an essential track, perfect for the most climactic moment of the night. And finally, the second original track closes the EP: “KAP Evening”, a track that moves in areas closer to tech house. The bass line stands out, in charge of making the dancefloor move. In some parts, the synth creates clear industrial reminiscences, closer to techno. We cant forget to mention the drop which is intense and effective, resulting in another perfect tool to move the audience in any club or festival. The artwork also deserves a special mention, as it is an original piece by LUIO ONASSIS DEL ZAU, a Portuguese graphic artist who will be in charge of all the label’s visual creativities.

On arrival at the gorgeous site, transformed into a mini wonderland for the weekend, you’ll meet your fellow revellers, an intimate crowd with a friendly and personal vibe. It is a festival all about musical discovery as well as making new friendships, having unique experiences and a time you will not forget.

The stages include the Barn Stage, a large open sided cow shed with bales of hay to relax and chill on, as well as sound systems throughout the site that are guaranteed to knock your festival wellies off. Camping options include super stylish bell tents with some added luxuries, while the whole festival is a rich, colourful affair thanks to the creativity of the visual art collective who dress and design the whole event.

There is plenty to look forward to musically across the many stages including sure to be spectacular headline sets from game changing hip hop legends Naughty By Nature and globally renowned, chart topping dance innovators Basemement Jaxx, a dub and reggae masterclass from the influential David Rodigan, disco dazzlers from Scandi-king Todd Terje, all shades of house from Graeme Park to a live performance from K Klass as well as the usual eclectic thrills and spills from firm Moovin favs like Craig Charles , Freestylers , DMC champion  DJ Woody, The Mouse Outfit, Honeyfeet and many more covering House ,funk, afro, disco, soul, dub hip hop, brass, drum & bass and everything in between. Unum Festival, First Unrestricted Festival Happened Last Weekend in Europe

Thousand of Revellers Attend First Festival in Albania – Backed by Albanian Government

Albania’s Unum Festival took place this last week as the first unrestricted festival in Europe with no hiccups and just pure joy coming from all the clubbers. The whole festival was supported by the Albanian Government through the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and Ministry of Health.
Over the whole event, close to 14,000 people turned up from all over England, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and even Israel, the USA, with 3,300 people from Kosovo,2,600 from Albania and 2,050 from other Balkan places such as Montenegro, Serbia, Romania and Macedonia. The country of Albania dropped all restrictions because of the low overall contagion rate in the country, recording only two new infections on Saturday. At the event, 100% of staff – both local and overseas – were fully vaccinated. Gloves and masks where mandatory for the cleaning team and toilets and mass-access areas were disinfected regularly. As a result, so far everyone who had to do a PCR test on their way back home has tested negative.
The happy smiling faces at the event were a thing to behold – everyone in attendance was beaming from ear to ear, delighted to be hugging each other and in close, cuddly proximity to other dancers. After such a long time away from the communal experience that is a dance music festival, many people were literally hopping with joy as things got underway. People climbed on each others shoulders, high-fived and made new friendships quickly and freely right from the first beat.
Says the Director of UNUM Festival, Kushtrim Sahiti, “In the wake of one of the worse years for the music industry, UNUM Festival came as ship of hope in the sea of don’t and do’s for Festivals and events of this size. It was a huge success and we’re exhausted but glad that we managed to give music back to the people. And even better, it sure was hella good music!”
After debuting in 2019 and missing 2020, Unum finally got to build on its impressive early momentum with heady techno sounds, a gorgeous setting on the Albanian Riviera and a crowd so up for it they’d have dance for a week let alone a weekend. After some warm up sets for those who arrived on the Thursday, Friday really finds the festival hit its stride. There are three stages in all with music on the Main Stage, the Pine Stage and on the Beach Stage all playing late into the night. Each one is a mass of writing bodies, dancing energetically from the first to the last beat.

The beautiful Pine Stage, set amongst the tall, sweet smelling trees was a real standout and is fast becoming one of the most iconic in the European scene. The music runs on for 24 hours straight with standout performances from Frenchman Dyed Soundorom who played a deep, groovy set of house music that was as warm and balmy as the sun kissed day time had been. Raresh also lit up the place with a solo set before he went back to back with Praslea as Pralesh which was one of the festival highlights for five hot and unforgettable hours later on the Sunday morning. It is fitting that such a special stage was brought to a close by a suitably special DJ with the one and only Ricardo Villalobos closing it down with a left of centre masterclass on Monday morning. The world class underground sounds were in fine flow for the whole weekend, with master minimalists Cap, John Dimas, Digby and Cesare Merveille all getting particularly good crowd reactions as they waved their way through slick, stripped back sounds, the odd playful party classic and plenty of deeply dug out delights.
The crowd is made up of eager locals and few people from various spots around Europe who had navigate restrictions to make their way here. They were in loud voice on the Main Stage when techno titan and Cocoon chief Sven Vath drew the biggest crowd and really served up a huge set on Friday and Saturday. Berghain’s Ben Klock also brought his heavyweight techno sounds on Friday and Saturday next to party-ready cuts from Leon. The Beach Stage was a great place to hang during the day. The views out to sea are epic, the open beaches inviting and the soundtrack first class from the likes of Jamie Roy and Traumer who really found a perfect musical sweet spot to match the atmospheric vibe.
All in all this was a fantastic first dance back for many people after so long away.
