Skrillex to headline South West Four (SW4) 2012

Chase & Status, Carl Cox, Erick Morillo, John Digweed. Not only does this read like a ‘who’s who’ of the elite electronic music fraternity, these influential names also form the backbone of our SW4 Saturday lineup. It’s no wonder tickets have been flying, with Saturday sales up 40% on this time last year. But with Sunday feeling left out, we shift our focus to its headline act. So big, no one superlative does him justice. Sunday is no longer the day of rest…

SkrillexA warm Clapham welcome for Skrillex, his complex bass orientated sound set to rumble the hotly anticipated UKF Bass Culture main stage. Londoners are already familiar with his mystical melange, following two recent sell-out shows at the iconic Brixton Academy. The rousing reaction of ten thousand electronic enthusiasts meant Skrillex for SW4 became an absolute necessity. Hence making this even more mouth watering, an EXCLUSIVE London festival appearance! A real musical coup for Clapham, continuing South West Four’s heritage of showcasing the most revolutionary DJs. Scheduled to close Sunday’s alfresco action, Skrillex’s set will be a frenetic homage to cutting edge dubstep, electro, glitch and grime.

Endorsements of Skrillex have come from the industry’s toughest critics. They don’t come much bigger than America’s ‘National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences’, purveyor’s of the coveted Grammys. An inextricable link to these awards and world domination signifies Skrillex’s recent Grammy hat trick as even more astounding. A haul of ‘Best Remixed Recording, Non Classical,’ ‘Best Dance/Electronica Album’ and ‘Best Dance Recording,’ is testament to a skill which stretches far beyond the DJ booth.  Affirming an unrivalled ability to create penetrating rhythms, unrestricted by one specific genre, Skrillex’s devastating industrial bass is now influencing artists on all sides of the electronic spectrum.

“If you’re going to see one DJ this year, make it this one.” From Stateside to domestic praise, equally as compelling from London’s own Evening Standard. Also chipping in, the Financial Times! “A stupidly enjoyable experience… not since the Prodigy has dance music been so madcap.” With the FT rooted far away from club land, such glowing praise earmarks Skillex as being revered by all music lovers. Especially when his immersive overlay of house, pop and R&B samples, serves to make Skrillex adored and accessible to the masses.

Techno legend Richie Hawtin keeps the appreciation coming. In February’s Mixmag Richie describes Skrillex as “the man of the moment” and as having “an energy that is extreme and undeniably engaging.”  Sentiments shared by The Prodigy, voted this publication’s ‘greatest dance act of all time.’ Hosting their ‘Warrior Dance Festival’ in Belgrade the month after SW4, the trio have handpicked none other than Skrillex as their special guest, recognising him as “the hottest act on the planet today.”

Expect the obligatory heart thumping bass lines, trashing the traditional 4/4 rhythm with a mesmeric array of stutters and stops. Plus huge gut wrenching breakdowns and chaotic riffs, complete this incapacitating package.  Set to pummel Clapham Common into submission, this is a performance guaranteed to go down as one of the greatest in SW4 history. You have been warned.

Corey Taylor and 21 more acts announced for Download 2012

They join The Prodigy, Metallica and Black Sabbath for the greatest weekend in the rock calendar on 8-10June 2012.

One of metal’s modern heroes, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor is confirmed for his first solo acoustic performance at Download. Following the release of his acclaimed book Seven Deadly Sins, and a one off address at the Oxford Union, Corey has emerged  as one of rock’s most engaging ambassadors.

Hardcore punk/Celtic folk band Dropkick Murphys also join the bill. The critically-acclaimed band’s set will mix old and new songs to inspire fist pumping madness in the moshpit. And proving that loud, gritty and ranting punk rock is very much alive, Cancer Bats are confirmed for their third appearance at the mighty Download Festival.

London-based metalcore group Rise To Remain, fronted by son of legendary Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, are also confirmed, joined by multi-million selling UK heavy metallers Saxon who are welcomedback for their fifth appearance at ‘the spiritual home of rock’.

Other exciting additions to the 10th anniversary line-up include Glaswegian rockers Gun, best known for their cover of Cameo’s ‘Word Up!’, Heaven’s Basement with their extreme energy live show and James Cleaver Quintet with their mix of soulful punk rock and post-hardcore.

Irish trio Kopek, who have been out on tour with Papa Roach and Stone Temple Pilots also join the bill, as well as classic rockers The Quireboys, probably best known for their hit album ‘A Bit of What You Fancy’ which reached Number Two in the UK charts. They’re joined by critically acclaimed UK metallers Sylosis, shock-rockers Butcher Babies, London metallers The Defiled, American metal-rockers Fozzy and former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach – returning to Donington for his first solo performance, although he was a surprise guest during Guns ‘N’ Roses’ headline performance at Download 2006.

Chicago’s Soil will be flying in for their fourth appearance at Download, joined by Red, White & Blues featuring lead guitarist from Skin, Myke Gray, and US metallers Upon A Burning Body, mixing brutal breakdowns with catchy two steps and heavy blast beats.

Last but certainly not least, hardcore mob While She Sleeps are added to the bill, as well as post-hardcore group We Are The Ocean, fresh from the recording with legendary producer Pete Miles, 18 year old classic rockers The Treatment and the hotly tipped Marmozets.

Full lineup announced for Glade Festival 2012

This enchanted wooded and open parkland site at Houghton Hall (which has not been used for any other music festival), is without a doubt the perfect permanent home for Glade. Behind the scenes the award-winning Secret Productions team (promoter of the year in the 2011 Festival Awards) will be taking care of the production and contributing that extra-special SGP twist to proceedings.  Expect a mouth-watering four days of fun-fuelled mayhem. Bardcore – The merry pranksters Feast of Fools, a long standing collective who feature at The Secret Garden Party every year, will be bringing not only their mead bar, but also their merry band of players, performers and misfits, who will lead the late night fireside story telling.  A beautiful, inclusive and entertaining bunch of characters, expect a mead fueled party of old until the wee hours…

Artful Badger –Another collective from the Garden joining us at glade this year, we welcome the Artful Badgers, feral disco denizens where the party always gets as weird and surreal as it does down right rude and dirty.  If you’ve not seen these guys in action, you’re in for a treat…

Extended Licensing – There’s some great news for all those who really love to party.  This year, we’ll be opening the doors on the festival at MIDDAY on Thursday, and will have music on a number of stages until MIDNIGHT. We’re also very pleased to announce that a number of our stages will be running until 6am and one until 8am on Saturday and Sunday morning, giving you a proper session.

New Sanctuary – This year, the Sanctuary is evolving.  There will of course still be an incredible healing area, with therapists skilled in all the holistic arts – from reiki to massage, acupuncture to reflexology, gong therapy, holistic therapy and all that’s in between. We’re also introducing a spa, consisting of hot tubs, saunas, sweat lodges, changing rooms and more.  All brought together in a beautiful area in and out of the trees.  This will be a place to relax, indulge yourself and get seriously clean, both inside and out.

Lana del Rey set for Sonar Barcelona 2012

The young New Yorker, whose rocketing career has converted her into a global icon, will present her debut album ‘Born to Die’ live, after having topped the charts in north America, the UK and other parts of the world.

Lana del Rey

Lana Del Rey possesses a carefully groomed style evoking images of the Hollywood hey-day, impeccable videos (“Video Games”, “Born To Die”, “Blue Jeans”) seen over the internet by thousands of viewers throughout the world in a short space of time and achieving millions of hits, and songs that stand out for their contemporary sound, accurate melodies, high doses of glamour and influences of pop, from the 50’s to the 90’s.

Lana herself cites Elvis Presley, Britney Spears, Nina Simone, Nirvana, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and Antony and the Johnsons amongst her principle references and defines herself as a “Nancy Sinatra in a gangster-rap key”. Moreover, Lana knows how to move in the right circles, currently mixing with the most interesting producers and artists of the moment, her songs have already been remixed by the likes of Balam Acab, Joy Orbison, Clams Casino, Jamie Woon, Odd Future and not forgetting Damon Albarn.

Lana Del Rey joins the Sónar 2012 Barcelona line-up already formed by The Roots, Modeselektor, Hot Chip, James Blake dj, Fatboy Slim, Richie Hawtin, Amon Tobin with his show ISAM, Squarepusher, Deadmau5, Nicolas Jaar, Luciano, Azari & III, Jacques Lu Cont, Friendly Fires, Metronomy, John Talabot, Mouse On Mars and the showcases by Hyperdub, Brainfeeder and 100% Silk, among others.

Beverley Festival headliners confirmed

The festival has always managed to provide a top rate programme of artists, with a varied range of musical genres to suit all tastes.  2012 looks set to demonstrate that this success story is to continue.

The festival kicks off on Friday (15th June) with folk-rock legends Steeleye Span with a career that has taken in an astounding six decades, with hit records “All Round My Hat” and “Gaudete”. The band are not just a legendary name in British music but also a link to the classic days of rock and folk music. Contemporaries of the likes of Led Zeppelin and Fairport Convention, they have gone on to change the face of folk music forever, taking it from small clubs and festivals into the world of chart topping albums and international tours

Saturday sees a night of dance with Scottish band quoted as being the “Future of Celtic Dance music” The Peatbog Faeries.  Nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Live Act, the band have performed at leading festivals all around the world, and will be returning to Beverley on the Saturday to headline a mid-summer dance night, with support from Denmark’s award winning young band Habadekuk.

The finale night at the festival will see two great bands from two different generations.

Premier rock ‘n’ roll legend Joe Brown will be headlining the main concert.   His ‘Very Best Of’ album achieved a Gold Record for a massive 120,000 sales and was on the UK charts for eight weeks staying four weeks in the Top 20. Recently he received MOJO magazine’s coveted Outstanding Contribution To Music Award as well as a much deserved MBE.

He performed on Later With Jools Holland and played his part closing the show at the Concert for George Harrison.  At the festival Joe will be bringing his five piece band including his son and record producer Pete Brown, and the musical styles incorporated into his new show break more boundaries and are as unique as the man himself. Packed with timeless classics, rockabilly, gospel, country, folk, and rock ‘n’ roll, all interwoven with Joe’s effervescent delivery and humorous reminiscences this sensational show is a musical journey not to be missed.

For the younger generation, and those young at heart, the Sunday night will finish in style with the young band tipped to be the Mumford and Sons, ahab.  Returning to the festival after their huge success at it last year, the band play alternative country music and have received rave reviews across the board.  Simon Mayo, of BBC Radio said “ahab is the real deal – top-notch UK Americana featuring tight four-piece harmonies.”

In addition the festival has some of the best American acts around from the UK and overseas with the dynamicAbigail Washburn with Kai Welch and Furnace Mountain visiting from the USA, and UK based The Carrivick Sisters and The Toy Hearts, along with Yorkshire’s very own Tom Townsend Band. Some great blues, bluegrass and country music will be heard over the weekend, with some excellent sessions to join in with.

Other artists include, Martin Carthy, Chumbawamba, Cooper Boyes & Simpson, Henry Priestman, Eduardo Niebla, author of DI Banks series of books as featured on ITV with Stephen Peter Robinson, and poet extraordinaire Ian McMillan and Luke Carver-Goss.

The growing and increasingly popular Area2 Youth programme is also hosting some of this countries top young artists. Run by young people it offers the chance for the rising stars of the future to shine in a festival atmosphere, and encourages young people to get involved  and participate in the event.

A wide range of concerts and activities for those attending the event, with a special emphasis on families and children, makes the event a perfect weekend for all.  With tickets selling fast and special rates available until the 31st March
