Shambala joins forces with Tree Aid

Every year the Sahara desert grows by 270,000 square km – that’s an area the size of New Zealand stripped of trees every single year. Despite the creeping sand more than 350million people live on the southern fringes of this desert in a daily battle to survive. This is where TREE AID works, and why Shambala Festival-goers have chosen to join TREE AID’s Tree Revolution, to help plant and protect 1 million trees in 2011.

Each year Shambala reduces even more of the environmental impact of their small and lively festival, including offering their visitors the chance to offset the carbon they create by travelling to and from the festival. This year, TREE AID was one of three organisations put to the carbon vote – and 47% of punters chose to join TREE AID’s Tree Revolution by donating £1907 to help rural families in Africa’s drylands to plant and protect trees.

A fun-filled four days of creativity, music, theatre and cabaret all topped off with mouth watering food from around the globe, Shambala also has an eco focus. Having recently been the first ever festival to win the maximum 3 stars in the Industry Green Award, Shambala is officially the UK’s greenest festival, and since 2010 Shambala have reduced their carbon footprint per person by 50%, making them the ideal festival to team up with TREE AID to help some of the poorest people in the world cope with to the increasing effects of climate change.

Especially because for African families living in the drylands, trees do more than just absorb carbon. Trees mean shade from the searing 40ºC heat of the West African sun. Trees mean food for families when other crops fail. Trees mean a poor woman can lift her family out of poverty by selling tree products like shea butter, dried mango and honey.  Trees mean families can stay together, that children can go to school and that teenagers are not driven to find dangerous work in the city slums.

Ultimately, trees mean life. For families in Africa, as well as for families here in the UK.

This year’s Shambala Festival is once again set to be full of unexpected surprises, with ticket holders being asked to vote for the bands they want to play over the weekend, plus the legendary Saturday night fancy dress carnival – all 99% powered by solar, wind and recycled veggie oil! You can find out more about TREE AID’s Tree Revolution at the Festival, or at www.treerevolution.org.uk.

It costs £1 for a family to plant a tree in Africa. Join the Tree Revolution today: text TREES to 81400 to donate £3 and plant 3 trees.

Sziget Festival lineup almost complete

One of the most successful and coolest electronic music acts of the past twenty years, Prodigy is playing on the Main Stage of Sziget Festival again. No need to tell you anything else, a great show is guaranteed, so just make sure you arrive in time to get your place in the crowd. Another new feature of the Main Stage line-up is Kate Nash, a charismatic and already well-known singer from Great Britain. Kate is proud owner of a BRIT music award, which says a lot of her wonderful skills. And still talking about the Main Stage program: Kaiser Chiefs are coming to play the new songs of their freshly released album. The Chiefs are growing to become an emblematic band of present times, gaining inspiration from the punk and new wave movement of the turn of the seventies and eighties, and without doubt they are one of the most authentic and well-received indie rock bands of the United Kingdom.

The program of the Sziget Main Stage is now complete and you can view the detailed list of performers at the program section of szigetfestival.com.

Last but not least, another great piece of news: the most colourful music act of Australia, Empire of the Sun is playing at Sziget Party Arena, presenting their spectacular show, inspired by science-fiction and sometimes similar to a fashion-gala. But it’s surely not just the visuals: make sure you sing along with them while listening to hits like Walking on a Dream, or We’re the People.

Sziget is ready for you, so make sure you are ready for Sziget. Forgot something? Sure, you will need your tickets. More information: www.szigetfestival.com.

More comedy acts announced for Green Man Festival

Grab yourself a cider in our magnificent marquee of merriment as some of the best stand-ups in the business take the mike from 7pm to 2am daily!

There’s so more to Green Man than the fantastic music – we’ve got three nights of brilliant comedy lined-up from an amazing array of acts including:

Tom Wrigglesworth – the national have-a-go-hero who rescued a little old lady from the jaws of Virgin train bureaucracy, only to be arrested for begging. The resulting sell-out show bagged him a prestigious Chortle award and his own BBC Radio 4 series.

Tony Law - an Edinburgh Festival favourite whose self-styled “acid-casualty” approach to stand-up is as laid-back as it is hilarious. The Canadian’s scorching jokes and incisive wit made him the perfect choice to support Stewart Lee on his recent UK tour.

Trevor Lock – among the most intelligent, original and exciting acts in comedy today. His ability to improvise whole routines with cleverly crafted wordplay and stream of consciousness ad-libbing has gained him a worldwide cult following.

Alistair Barrie – one of the most in-demand MCs on the international circuit. He hosted and helped organise Bye George, the comedians farewell to George W. Bush at London’s Southbank Centre, alongside Rory Bremner, Mark Thomas and Marcus Brigstocke.

Gary Delaney – a razor sharp comedian widely regarded as being the most quotable stand-ups on the circuit. His high-volume, high quality one-liners have left audiences reeling, from rowdy clubs to bizarre corporate gigs at the Labour Party Conference.
Ben Clark and Tom Parry – the two tallest members of acclaimed sketch group Pappy’s. Their unique brand of silly comedy has won rave reviews at Edinburgh, a Chortle award for Best Sketch Act and slots on BBC Radio 4 and Channel 4.

PLUS sets from Mike Wozniak, Helen Arney, Maeve Higgins, Mark Olver, Bec Hill, Tom Bell, Terry Saunders and many, many more yet to be announced.

Parklife Weekender 2011 Review

From Piccadilly station, across the city centre, and over to Fallowfield, a buzz of anticipation spread across town, as Manchester geared up for the return of Parklife Festival. Only in its second year, Parklife has a growing reputation for a party that you won’t soon forget. If waking up in a soggy sleeping bag isn’t your style, then this urban festival offers the best of both worlds; a weekend crammed with great music, without the pain of figuring out how to set up a tent. Relatively small, with only seven venues over two days, Parklife does all it can to pack as much as possible into that short time.  From the relentless beats of the Chibuku tent on Saturday, to the best sounds coming out of Manchester in the Now Wave venue on Sunday, not to mention, the massive acts lighting up the main stage; Parklife may look small, but it’s one big weekend.

Parklife

Following the crowds pouring into the park on Saturday afternoon, we were welcomed by Everything Everything, giving it their all up on the main stage, to an already pumped up crowd.  As we explored the rest of the park, walking past the Chibuku tent, whose heavy bass already had the place packed out, we came across the secret garden; fabric art installations by Donna Jevens and the Elephant collective, as well as bath tubs to sit in and watch as spoken word acts, and buskers perform on their own stage.  This slightly surreal, dreamscape installation was alive with people enjoying a rest from the unyielding party that continued on just around the corner. If that wasn’t already enough to spark our curiosity, past the spoken word, circus acts and tunnels of love, we came across the Truly Treemendous Treehouse Stage, which housed silent disco DJ’s in a tree, as well as a dance floor and some giant vegetable seating for everyone else to enjoy.

Back to the main stage, and Beardyman had replaced Everything Everything, enchanting crowds with his almost unbelievable beat boxing skills, cross over to the Now Wave tent to catch Jamie XX start off his set, and as the audience throw themselves into the rhythms, it was hard to believe that it was only six o’clock. Katy B’s clear vocals cut across the park, and drew the crowd back to watch her perform tracks like Broken Record and Perfect Stranger, with a completely different feel to her recorded work.  Live band, coupled with a small brass section gave the set a more soulful feel than her latest album allowed for.

Katy B

With the sun setting over the festival main stage, and the carnival atmosphere continuing, before we knew it, debut festival headliners Two Door Cinema Club, began their electrifying set.  Playing tracks from their album, Tourist History, as well as new materiel with an infectious beat, they left the crowd screaming for more. As the throng poured out of the park and into numerous after parties, we were left to wonder, how could tomorrow top a night like this?

Day two broke with the sun rising over the city, but soon gave way to a more traditional UK festival climate. The rain transformed green grass pathways into mud planes, and we rejoiced as mudslides and wrestling commenced and the multitude turned from an array of colour to slimy brown. It was inevitable really, and nothing was going to get in the way of a great line up for day two.

In the Juicy tent, rammed all the way to the entrance, one of our Parklife highlights was Riot Jazz, a ten piece brass band, who pumped out a combination of punchy jazz, hip-hop, and funk beats, in true style.  Making it impossible for anyone to be standing still, as tune after high energy tune blasted out in ecstasy before the rain drenched audience. The energy was astounding and just as we thought the crowd couldn’t dance any longer Broke n English took over to prove us wrong. Torn between staying to watch the set, and catching Labrinth’s debut festival appearance, we pulled ourselves away to head to the main stage, but before making it there, we crossed paths with a samba band and crowds dancing behind them.

Parklife

The rain had stopped, but the mud was rising with Labrinth’s opening song to his first ever festival crowd. And after a bass heavy set from Skream & Benga, two thirds of legendary magnetic man, the air was heavy with anticipation as the crowds waited expectantly for day two main stage headliners, Chase & Status.  With pounding rhythms, and heavy bass, soaring melodies, and awesome visuals, not one person was standing still as the main stage lit up for the final act of the year. And though sweat poured down their mud caked faces, the audience were swept away by a performance that kept getting better. Before leaving we popped into Now Wave to find a crowd of dancers falling in love with the crushed harmonies, and catchy melodies of Mystery Jets. And as our tired legs left Platt Field Park for the final time, we couldn’t help but think that Parklife, will only keep getting better.

Festival Republic Stage announced for Reading and Leeds Festival

Friday 26th August at Reading Festival / Saturday 27th August at Leeds Festival

THE HORRORS will take to the Festival Republic Stage as our headliners for what is sure to be two very special shows. After forming in the summer of 2005, the band quickly gained notoriety around London for their look, sound and brief but frantic live shows. Mixing shoegazing, post-punk and goth influences, expect The Horrorsto deliver one of those iconic Festival Republic Stage moments.

With a long awaited new album ready to drop on 20th June, DIGITALISM are all set to perform at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festival. The German duo make electronic music that everyone can rock to. Over the past few years, they have been the go-to men for indie remixes, having reworked the Klaxons, Futureheads and Cut Copy. With the new album featuring a track co-written with The Strokes front man Julian Casablancas, the record is sure to drag the indie kids back to their electronic party.

Five years on from his acclaimed debut album, TOM VEK is back.   Vek spontaneously released his first album just as the digital age was dawning, then disappeared. Now he returns with his second album ‘Leisure Seizure’, released on 6th June on Island Records.   An artist with a unique and singular vision, these sets are not to be missed.

Genre hopping four piece, WHITE DENIM, head to the Festival Republic Stage off the back of their critically acclaimed new album, ‘D’. Fiercely experimental and talented, The Guardian were moved to say “they cram more radical change into single songs than many bands managed in entire lifespans”.

One of the most talked about artists of 2011, ANNA CALVI is set for her first visit to Reading & Leeds.   After a nomination in the BBC Sounds poll in January, Anna has since released her debut album through Domino Records, with The Evening Standard declaring that “her raw talent is undeniable: 2011 is Calvi’s for the taking”.
www.annacalvi.com

THE ANTLERS is Peter Silberman, Darby Cicci and Michael Lerner.   With a new expansive sound on recent album ‘Burst Apart’, released via our Alternative Stage friends Transgressive Records, the plaudits are piling up and The Antlers look set to become one of the names of the festival.

FOSTER THE PEOPLE are “a band with greatness absolutely within their grasp” according to The Sunday Times. The three piece, who recently played their first UK shows, are now readying their debut album ‘Torches’ which is due out later this month.

New York punks CEREBRAL BALLZY have a reputation for being one of the most exciting bands on the circuit. With a sound compared to the likes of Black Flag, Minor Threat and early Beastie Boys this is a group that never disappoints live.

DRY THE RIVER  are one of the one’s to watch at this year’s festival. After building momentum in 2010, 2011 has seen the band play rapturously received shows at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas (hailed by NME as one of the highlights of the week) and begin recording debut album, due for release later this year, with Peter Katis (The National, Interpol).

Knoxville’s ROYAL BANGS released their debut album in 2008 through Audio Eye Records, an independent label founded by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys.   Trading instruments and production duties, band members Chris Rusk, Ryan Schaefer and Sam Stratton are now back with new album ‘Flux Outside’.

Exeter’s THE COMPUTERS released their debut full length album ‘This Is The Computers’ last month. There is no ambiguity or airs of pretension here.   The Computers play sartorially-snappy supersonic rhythm and blues with larynx-shredding vocals.   Rock Sound summed it up by declaring their sound as “50’s fuelled riffery and scream along gang vocals with an intensity that would make Chuck Berry roll in his grave”.

ISLET are liquid, rotating between instruments, singing, howling.   Drum-duo breakdowns, splashes of guitar, searing organs.   Playing music for the joy of the moment. Their second mini-album, ‘Wimmy’ was released in October 2010 and was recorded and mixed themselves in Cardiff, and affirms Islet to be one of the most exciting new bands that the UK has seen for a long time.

On a break from Queens of the Stone Age, Michael Shuman joined forces with long time friends Tyler Parkford and Zach Dawes to create MINI MANSIONS.   Josh Homme describes the band’s sound as “genuinely psychedelic with huge hooks… after listening to Mini Mansions just once, you won’t be able to get it out of your head”. Be sure to get in the arena early to witness these sets.

Hailing from the blistering valley of Los Angeles and touted as rock’s new generation is CHERRI BOMB, a badass all girl rock band who have already shared the stage with such bands as Filter, the super group Camp Freddy and toured with the Smashing Pumpkins.

Saturday 27th August at Reading Festival / Sunday 28th August at Leeds Festival

After drawing one of the weekend’s biggest crowds last year, THE MIDNIGHT BEAST return as our Festival Republic Stage headliners. The internet sensations sent YouTube into meltdown last year with their cover of Ke$ha’s ‘Tik Tok’. If you haven’t seen them live yet, think of them as a musical version of the characters of The Inbetweeners, and be sure to catch them this summer at Reading & Leeds Festival.

NYC’s RIVAL SCHOOLS will remind us just what we’ve been missing when they return to the UK this summer. Since reforming in 2008 after nearly eight years away the band has been touring the US and Europe relentlessly, including a UK co-headline tour with…The Trail Of Dead. The pioneers of Post-Hardcore will certainly appeal to a whole new generation of fans now they’ve released their much anticipated third album ‘Pedals’.

Known for their unrelenting tours that has seen them play over 300 gigs since the start of 2009 Belfast’s finest AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR (ASIWYFA to their fans) are still going strong. From appearances at festivals around the world to a support slot for rock supergroup ‘Them Crooked Vultures’, we can look forward to the instrumental quartet’s subtle rhythms on the Festival Republic Stage

Since Forming in 2007 Chicago’s five-piece Indie rockers SMITH WESTERNS have managed to tour both the USand Europe while supporting the likes of MGMT, Florence and The Machine and Passion Pit, now they arrive at this year’s Reading & Leedssure to perform a storming set.

From being awarded with the critically acclaimed Australian Music Award to a personal request to support Foo Fighters, Australian four-piece CLOUD CONTROL are now set to unleash their collection of quirky, harmonic psyche-pop at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festival. Drowned In Sound declared “They have made a tremendously enjoyable album”.   A tremendously enjoyable set is nigh.

Recently signing to Lily Allen’s Sony imprint label ITNO, new rising talents in the shape of Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin make up the mystery and intrigue that lies behind CULTS. The duo have enjoyed huge critical acclaim for their eponymous album released this summer and have quickly gained the tag as a band not to miss live … so don’t!
www.cults.bandcamp.com

MARIARCHI EL BRONX, the Alter ego of LA rockersThe Bronx have released material under both identities previously and have recently announced a tour with Foo Fighters later in the year. The band always receive a rapturous response to their Mariachi-style performances and we expect nothing less this year.
www.mariachielbronx.com

Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi are the inspirations behind GROUPLOVE.   After a US tour opening for Florence and the Machine and a debut album to be released later this year, we can certainly expect greater things to come from these US indie rockers, including a thrilling set at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festival.
www.grouplovemusic.com

Camden’s TRIBES described by fanboys The Mystery Jets as “The future of rock’n roll”; a sentiment chimed by everyone from NME to Radio 1’s Huw Stephens. Their debut EP ‘We Were Children’ also gained Zane Lowe’s coveted ‘Hottest Record in the World’ status. The 4 piece will be coming straight back at us with their debut album later this year not to mention a rip-roaring set on the Festival Republic Stage.
www.myspace.com/tribesband

BIG DEAL were recently the NME Radar band of the week and they described them as “Armed with just an acoustic and electric guitar, the set-up may be sparse, but its bittersweet soundtrack certainly packs a punch”.   This London duo are building a reputation as ones to watch so don’t miss their Big Star/Velvets/ woozy, sexy pop classicism inspired sound.
www.myspace.com/weareabigdeal

YOUNG THE GIANT completed their first UK tour in 2010 now the Californian quintet’s return to the UK is imminent as they prepare for a full-on set at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festival. Thanks to early radio support across the UK including Radio 1 and NME radio the band certainly have fans, including Morrissey who stated recently “I will be kneeling with gratitude on a hardwood floor for many years to come”
www.youngthegiant.com

Compared to The White Stripes and Cat Power, Brooklyn’s Blues rock partnership, Jessica Larrabee and Andy Laplant are the talented duo behind SHE KEEPS BEES. Their fiery, soulful sounds are sure to keep us wanting more when they perform.
www.shekeepsbees.com

www.edsheeran.com

THE TWILIGHT SINGERS arrive at Reading & Leeds on the back of the band’s critically acclaimed new album ‘Dynamite Steps’. Clearly the next chapter in an already long and stellar career for lead singer Greg Dulli, Dynamite Steps has been one of the best-reviewed albums of his lengthy career on both sides of the Atlantic and he will no doubt convert yet more disciples to his broad church. www.thetwilightsingers.com

We welcome COCKNBULLKID, aka, 25 year old Hackney resident Anita Blay. Having released her debut single back in 2008, she has been earning accolades ever since and in possession of one the most interesting, credible pop record of the year in ‘Adulthood’ which has seen her reach out to more fans worldwide.
www.cocknbullkid.com

Rising stars TWIN ATLANTIC released their debut album ‘Free’ earlier this year. The Glasgow rockers won rave reviews for the record, and with anthems from the Lostprophets and My Chemical Romance school of rock, be sure to get down the front for these sets.

Formed in 2006 Dublin’s FIGHT LIKE APES (FLA) have since toured the UK with The Ting Tings, The Prodigy and Kasabian. Their 2010 release ‘The Body of Christ and the Legs of Tina Turner’ won the Irish album of the year and they claim their influences to include B-movies, computer games, kung-fu and wrestling – don’t miss their ‘trademark twin-synth attack’.
www.fightlikeapesmusic.com

One of the UK’s brightest talents, BENJAMIN FRANCIS LEFTWICH, released his debut EP ‘A Million Miles Out’ at the end of 2010 and quickly garnered praise across the board. Radio 1 DJ’s Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton were vocal supporters, whilst Jo Whiley made ‘Atlas Hands’ one of her tracks of 2010. With his debut album out next month, be sure to catch this very special act this August.

Hailing from Manchester DUTCH UNCLES met at primary school and released their debut album ‘Cadenza’ for Memphis Industries earlier this year. Described by the band as “definitely pop music but hopefully with a little bit more for the listener to scratch beneath the surface” the group have mixed pop and indie and added something very special to the mix.

From the horse’s mouth – ‘NIGHTBOX believe the invention of the drum kit has improved humanity’s standard of living more dramatically than penicillin, sliced bread, and the wheel combined. The five band members have dedicated their life’s work to the primal bliss that rhythm brings, and their labours have consistently borne joyous, funky fruit’. Get your dancing shoes ready for these Canadian boys.

Sinister speed-punks FLATS yank together the spirit of every raucous punk band that’s come before them but give it their own inedible and thrilling spin. Their live reputation has been earned by continual visceral live shows and they are sure to wake up the day.

ROMANCE are a three-piece post punk group from London. After forming in 2008, the band are starting to make waves in all the right places. With influences such as Bauhaus and Siouxsie And The Banshees, they create a fresh reworking of the seventies Goth sound. See for yourself over the weekend.

Jelly Festival 2011 update

Dubbed ‘a family-friendly Secret Garden Party’ by the media, for the first time the Jelly Festival will be opening its doors to campers a day early so people can get settled for the fun that lies ahead. With fantastic acts such as The Freestylers, The Egg, Concrete Disco and bands from as far afield as Cuba confirmed to perform and a host of surreal sights to experience, this year’s Jelly Festival is set to be the best yet!

Fantastic music lies at the heart of Jelly Festival and the aim of the organisers is to bring to Norfolk acts you already know as well as up and coming talent who you will be adding to your summer playlist as soon as the festival is over!

Real love and care has also gone into making Jelly Festival a surreal flight of fantasy served for your delectation on a wobbling plate that will be enjoyed by all ages; the festival stages are even styled on the fun concept of them being different rooms within a house!

The main ‘Living Room’ stage is modelled on a bizarre dream-like living room with sofas, lamps and plants and will play host to an eclectic range of music beginning with folk, Gypsy Jazz, and world music before hosting Indie, funk bands as the day goes on and dance music in the evening.

On the other ‘Bedroom Bar’ stage will be the cream of local talent until 12 midnight then, when the Living Room stage closes, the party carries on into the small hours as the bedroom bar dance party, playing the freshest electronic beats, while the Circus Big Top ‘Bedroom Bar’ is modelled on a set of Pyjamas with a blue and red striped pattern and comfortable and relaxing décor. The music runs from 12 noon to 4 am Saturday night.

The Jelly Festival’s three bars stock the very best booze including delicious European lagers, wholesome local ales and fruity Pimms all at local pub prices. The cider bar meanwhile will provide festival-friendly litre bottles of quaffable cider, sourced from a farm just a bike ride down the road, while in the Cocktail bar Arthur and his team will be playing out the Tom Cruise role in the classic 80’s hit movie as Mojitos, slammers and other explosive concoctions will be flying over the bar!
A big part of the Jelly Festival ethos is to operate along ethical and environmentally friendly lines and support and promote the wonderful local family-run businesses of North Norfolk.

With this in mind, the ‘Kitchen’ brings together a wonderful selection of local food and drink stalls selling true gourmet grub at amazing prices. From Arthur Howell’s award winning burgers and sausages, Mandarin café from Banham selling Indian treats and Compton hog roast from the farm to Thai food from Fakenham, Norfolk cider, stone baked pizza from Norwich and Charcoal-grilled Cypriot food from Hunstanton there is guaranteed to be food to suit every taste and palette.

On ‘the Garden Path’ there are arts and crafts stalls and demonstrations while kids will have the time of their lives in the custom-designed ‘Play Room’ with everything from bouncy and wobbly inflatables, climbables and ridables to interactive workshops so they can come away with some extra life skills. Throughout the festival, the family friendly vibe means kids can also just hang out with mum and dad and enjoy the music and when the day draws to a close, there is even a separate campsite for families to have their own world of peaceful bliss.

As the name suggests, the Jelly Festival is one big, glistening homage to all things Jelly and tonnes of the wobbly stuff will be served throughout the day including jelly cocktails and softer jelly treats for the kids with all donations going to Anglia Air Ambulance.

From the youngest sprog to the young at heart, more mature lover of great music and everyone else in between, Jelly Festival is a real melting pot with people milling about, dancing, laughing, making friends, and it’s one of the few places on earth you can see teenagers out with Mum and Dad, but not feeling embarrassed!

So why not wobble your way down to Jelly Festival this Summer? Because from the hottest new singer-songwriters and bands to world- renowned DJs, the Jelly Festival breaks the mould!

L.E.D presents deadmau5 Live Review

As we head well and truely into the festival season, L.E.D returned for its second installment at Victoria Park in London with L.E.D presents deadmau5 Live.

After selling out shows all over the world and more recently becoming the first electronic artist to sell out London’s Earls Court in December 2010, we expected a mammoth crowd to grace the grounds of Victoria Park to see the DJ who doesnt like to be called a DJ, deadmau5.

We stroll into Victoria Park around 3pm to the sounds of Retro/Grade who have taken to the Main Stage.  Immediately we head to the Let’s Go Crazy Arena to check out one of D&B’s finest acts Netsky and MC:AD.  If its was ear ringing D&B you wanted to hear, then this was the arena for you!  The speakers were smashing out the sounds from  Netsky, Skrillex, Modestep, DJ Hype and all the other DJ’s in this arena.  As we walked around the crowd, the amount of energy in this arena was insane, the D&B massive was definetly representing.

SkrillexAs 4pm approached, we headed back to the main stage to see Skrillex, label mate of deadmau5 on mau5trap records.  An extremely talented young man, Skrillex is a electro / dub-step producer, he is welcomed to the stage with large applause from the crowd.  His DJ set is full of head banging tunes, and with microphone in hand, Skrillex announces that “London is my second home and I f*ckin love it here

With the sun well and truely shining, the grass crisp and dry, Radio 1’s Zane Lowe is next to send the main stage crowd into euphoria.  Zane has a massive presence on the stage, his DJ skills and crowd pleasing ability is second to none and he plays a huge mix of music in his sets.  Zane really does know how to whip a crowd into shape!

Having just released his new single Bounce, Calvin Harris is next to take to the main stage before the main event.  Calvin takes it straight to the L.E.D crowd with his massive hands in the air anthem I’m Not Alone.  Everytime I have seen Calvin he never disappoints, his sets are consistently brilliant with the right amount of electo-pop numbers to please the crowd, a number of them his own productions!

For those that do not know, deadmau5 is full on techie, his shows and music are created using cutting edge technology and are constantly pushing the boundries.  His current setup consists of a mind-blowing led cube and his iconic led mousehead.  Being a tech-head myself, its amazing to see how Joel brings his show together using the latest tech.

deadmau5

With the Lets Go Crazy arena closed, the main stage area packs out with about 25,000 fans who have been here most of the day to see deadmau5.  As the music fades, deadmau5 runs to the front of the stage in a ghost outfit before taking his place at the top of the famous cube structure that has been a part of his shows for about a year now.

Starting out with the uplifting “Some Chords”, deadmau5 knows how to gear up the crowd, and we expected the next 90 minutes would follow suit.

Moving out of sight for a minute, deadmau5 returns to the Cube with his famous LED mousehead!  As he takes us through his musical journey, his mouse head lights up with all sorts of images.  The visual spectical of deadmau5’s shows are amazing, with a massive L.E.D backdrop as well as the full blown cube and mouse head, no expense is spared when it comes to putting on this production.

deadmau5

Needing no introduction onto the stage, we hear the build up of one of the tunes I was most waiting to hear, “Sofi Needs a Ladder” starts to arise from within the speakers, and as the beat kicks, Sofi comes out and there is a massive roar in the crowd.  Struting her dance moves in front of the cube, Sofi makes her way down the catwalk to take it to the waiting crowd.  Sofi sounds just as good live as she does on the album!

deadmau5’s live shows never disappoint, and as with last year at Earls Court, this was another stormer of a show, once again showcasing why deadmau5 is one of the most in-demand electronic artists in the world.  I dont suspect it will take long to see him back in London again very soon.

We very much look forward to see what L.E.D has in store for us next summer!
