This includes the incredible Loco Dice who over the past few years has seen his stature rise to become one of the most devastating and respected DJs on the planet. Adding a live element to proceedings we’re delighted to welcome Tiefschwarz. Whether it’s in the studio or in the club, this duo constantly turn heads with timeless productions, remixes and live performances. Also playing live is Guy Gerber. The Israeli tech-house star is no stranger to the world’s biggest events, so the green grass of Clapham Common will suit him down to the ground. Shake It! residents Layo & Bushwacka! will be joined by our favourite Frenchman Mr Laurent Garnier who headlines proceedings, bringing with him his mindblowing LBS showcase alongside Benjamin Rippert and Stephane ‘Scan X’ Dri. Garnier himself explains that while L.B.S. officially stands for Live Booth Sessions, a more fitting name would be Loud Bass and Samples and this exclusive performance is sure to be as thrilling as it is ground breaking. Tiga returns to Clapham Common this summer having previously performed at Get Loaded in the Park. On SW4 duty this time round, we’re delighted to add the Canadian’s electronic sounds to a hugely impressive Shake It! showcase. The king of Ibiza’s legendary Space terrace, Steve has been on We Love line-ups for as long as we can remember. A We Love party wouldn’t be complete without their residents Simian Mobile Disco and Joris Voorn. Simian make their long awaited SW4 debut this year, whilst Joris returns to the Common having played a storming set in John Digweed’s Bedrock arena in 2010. Completing the line-up we welcome Berlin’s Bpitch Control label boss Ellen Allien for her SW4 debut, alongside the newly solo, tech-house vibes of Technasia and British sensation Mat Playford.

The uber techno lord will be joined by VERY special guest and fellow Swede Eric Prydz, playing under his Cirez D guise for the very first time. Legendary UK techno duo Slam have travelled far and wide in the past but debut at SW4 this summer with a live performance that is sure to get the pulses racing. The techno showcase continues with the brilliant Paul Ritch. His DJ sets and production have seen his popularity rise the world over, much like Ben Sims who also plays. The ‘3 deck master’ is one of the UK’s biggest techno exports and we’re delighted to have him flying the flag. Drumcode’s very own Alan Fitzpatrick also joins the line-up with a much anticipated live performance, whilst Ida Engberg completes the bill bringing her relentless passion to South West London.

South West Four Arena Host’s announced

Past hosts have included Carl Cox & Friends, Bedrock, The Gallery, Boys Noize Records, Toolroom Knights and Global Underground. In 2011 we have accumulated our strongest arena hosts to date, all dedicated to showcasing the world’s greatest DJs and live electronic acts. How does one of the planet’s biggest records labels sound? Or how about two of Ibiza’s most legendary club nights? Here goes…

COCOON
Sven Vath’s legendary Cocoon label is the leading techno imprint on the planet. Since its creation in 2000, the label has thrown some of the most mind blowing parties club land has ever witnessed. This includes huge events the world over, astounding nights at the label’s own venue in Frankfurt and that’s all before we get to the antics that take place every Monday evening on a certain White Isle… Without doubt Ibiza’s biggest night, Cocoon at Amnesia has seen Pappa Sven and his cohorts change the electronic landscape and help bring techno to the masses. Only the unexpected can be expected when the Cocoon juggernaut hits Clapham Common this summer for its SW4 debut.

ANJUNABEATS presents GROUP THERAPY
As part of the global tour for their much anticipated second artist album, worldwide trance sensation and SW4 favourites Above & Beyond will be hosting a number of ‘Group Therapy’ stages at the biggest dance festivals in Europe this summer. Handpicking their favourite DJs and artists, Above & Beyond will also be playing extended sets at each event – showcasing the cutting-edge sounds of their ‘Group Therapy’ album. This includes Dance Valley, Tomorrowlands, Global Gathering and as the final piece to the puzzle at South West Four. Boasting an arena full of the biggest names in trance, we’re in for a treat as Above & Beyond bring some power packed melody and euphoria to South West Four.

SHAKE IT!
Arguably London’s finest underground house night, SW4 is delighted to welcome back Shake It! In 2009 the club night debuted on the Common, with residents Layo & Bushwacka! starring alongside Richie Hawtin, Steve Lawler, Timo Maas and Dubfire. Since then Shake It! has continued to host a succession of sell out parties which have taken London’s most discerning clubbers to the most impressive spaces imaginable. Attracting names such as Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier, Shake It! has become an institution in a very short space of time. Bringing the underground sounds to the great outdoors of Clapham Common for the second time, please welcome Shake It! to SW4.

WE LOVE…
We Love… is the greatest Sunday clubbing experience on the planet. Throughout the summer over 8,000 clubbers pack into Space Ibiza every week for a multi-room, mini-festival that is simply one of a kind. With an agenda focussed on showcasing cutting edge music from across the dance spectrum, We Love… are the perfect arena hosts for Sunday at SW4. At South West Four the much loved clubbing institution has curated the biggest lineup it has ever presented in London. With residents of the calibre of Simian Mobile Disco, Joris Voorn and James Zabiela, We Love… are associated with only the very best names in the business and this is what can be expected when We Love… arrives at South West Four.

TOGETHER
Together returns to Clapham Common this August after its unforgettable arena at last year’s South West Four. In 2010 Together welcomed an incredible selection of acts to the festival including Skream & Benga, Andy C, Jack Beats and Caspa. Since then the night has gone onto host a mammoth New Years Eve at the O2 Academy Brixton with Mark Ronson, Annie Mac, Katy B, Fake Blood, Hervé and Zinc. In 2011 Together returns to SW4, this time to take control of the larger 5,000 capacity arena with an even bigger lineup. Keep your ears open for this exciting announcement coming your way.

DRUMCODE
One of the most respected and seminal record labels in the industry, it is a great honour that Adam Beyer has chosen South West Four to host the next instalment of Drumcode in the capital. In 2010 the label took over the Ewer Street Car Park in London for a massive sell out event and a lineup featuring the likes of Chris Liebing, Paul Ritch, Cari Lekebusch, Alan Fitzpatrick and Beyer himself. The label’s uncompromising musical vision has also been welcomed across the four corners of the globe with the label’s annual pilgrimage to the Berghain in Berlin now part of techno folklore. With demand for Drumcode’s return to the Capital at an all time high, we’re delighted to welcome the underground heavyweight to South West Four for the label’s only London festival appearance this year.

Magentic Man to join SW4 Sunday 28th August 2011

magnetic man

Playing a London Festival Exclusive, this is what Magentic Man had to say:

SW4 is an important gig for us! It’s on our home turf, the atmosphere is always incredible and we can get a taxi home at the end. We can’t wait to tear it up in front of our friends and family. This will also be the only chance to catch us in the great outdoors, in the capital this year. So it’s going to be very special indeed – see you there!” (Skream)

magentic manAfter pioneering the dubstep sound from their Big Apple Records HQ in Croydon, Skream, Benga and Artwork formed Magnetic Man. As with many a superhero, their lair no longer exists. But the trio have moved onto bigger conquests, creating an inimitable dark and bassy sound that has rumbled its way to core gigs worldwide. Having played Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds and Manchester’s Parklife last year, they were handpicked by Deadmau5 to support his sell out UK tour – with mind bending shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Coventry and London’s Earls Court.

Studio wise, Magnetic Man are a dominant force. Debut release ‘I Need Air’ was followed up by massive collaborations with Katy B, Ms Dynamite and John Legend – affirming their creative nous and versatility. With October’s debut album released to rave reviews, they have earned a reputation amongst the production elite. With ongoing support from names such as Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Mistajam and Pete Tong, Magnetic Man’s live show is simply devastating. Set to destroy SW4 2011 with their brand of mutant basslines, don’t miss the magnificent Magnetic Man as they blow up our Main Stage this summer.

Underworld to headline SW4 2011 Saturday

underworld sw4 2011Karl Hyde and Rick Smith aka Underworld are the undisputed heavyweights of the electronic world. Famed for their spine-tingling techno/rock fusion, their sound has been widely acclaimed in both commercial and underground domains for over 20 years. ‘Born Slippy’ smashed both, the perfect marriage of house, techno, drum & bass and pop. Those chords forming arguably the greatest dance track ever, it was included in the film Trainspotting and sold over 750 000 copies in the process. Such epic crossovers have been a sturdy platform for success, having released six monstrous albums – including the best selling ‘Oblivion With Bells On’ and the most recent ‘Barking.’

Into the live arena and rocking stadium sized crowds is second nature having headlined the likes of the Glastonbury, Glade and the legendary Love Parade. Not to mention last year’s sell out concerts in London, Manchester and Glasgow. In the process these broke new ground with stunning visuals and incredible sound engineering. No superlative can do justice to undoubtedly one of the most influential acts of the past three decades. With the duo snapped up to soundtrack Danny Boyle’s recent production of ‘Frankenstein’ at the National Theatre what more proof do you need?

Jetting into the capital for a huge homecoming fresh from headlining Ultra, Sonar and Exit, we’re delighted to finally welcome Underworld – rounding off their festival season in true style. Do not miss it!

London is our town and we love to play in front of a home crowd. SW4 is going to be amazing this year and we can’t wait to play there. It’s a party in the sun for London’s night people. See you there”. Karl Hyde (Underworld)

For nine years, Pendulum have fused ideas from a plethora of musical genres. Pendulum’s main draw is their live showJaw dropping manipulation of beats, which became folklore of Glastonbury, Leeds, Reading, Pukkelpop, Monegros, Bestival, Ultra and and T in the Park. However, last year’s performance alongside Prodigy at MK Bowl – superseded all that went before. Pure genius that succeeded in uniting all EDM lovers as one.

South West Four 2010 Review

SW4Saturday 28th August had finally arrived and it was the first day of the SOLD OUT South West Four weekender. Extended to a two day festival this year we were delighted to see the sun shining after a week of rain.

Pete Tong SW4We made our way to the infamous Clapham Common, home to SW4 for many a year. As we picked up our passes and walked in, we manage to catch the end of Alex Metric finishing up his live set on the main stage.
We make our way to the front of the main stage to see Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong. A regular at SW4 he was to kick things off in typical Tongy fashion, busting out massive track after track and showcasing why he is still one of the most in-demand DJ’s in the world. Dropping the massive Swedish House Mafia “One” brings the crowds running into the main stage area in their hundreds, by far one of the biggest tunes of the year.
Over to the other side of the park to catch Gareth Emery in the TimeOut Gallery Arena who is playing a nice selection of uplifting trance to an already very busy tent.   The Gallery Arena has been one of the most popular tents at SW4 and with a lineup including Judge Jules, Sander Van Doorn and Paul Oakenfold it was bound to be packed like a sardine can!
We quickly head over to the DJ Mag Bedrock Arena to see Mutant Clan (Timo Maas and Santos) who are busy on their setup of 8 CDJ’s and 2 mixers. They seem to work seamlessly together to blend track after track.
Moving onto the Toolroom Knights arena, we catch Dirty South who has had another productive year in the studio releasing the popular “Phazing” which is doing the damage around clubland. Sticking to his electro / uplifting house style he rocks the crowd in one of the tents that I quite enjoyed throughout the day. We also catch Funkagenda in the Toolroom Knights arena and he rocks the crowd with a massive set.
As the sun continues to shine on through the afternoon, the crowd was building up to its maximum 20,000 capacity. We see smiles all around us as we walk through the crowd back to the main stage to catch Laidback Luke, one of the busiest DJ’s / Producers in the business. Pumping out track after track we were very excited to see him for our first time. His style is a mix of uplifting / progressive house and electro. His blend of tracks at SW4 gathers a massive crowd in the main stage area.
Erick MorilloErick Morillo as energetic as always teases the crowd with a great intro track and then busts into his unique style of Latin / Miami style house music. It’s been a while since I last saw Erick on a big stage and he always plays with a high amount of energy, constantly dancing and grooving behind the decks. By the end of his set, there is a mass of friends and colleagues gathered on the stage partying with Mr Morillo.
As we mill about the press area we catch a glimpse of Paul Oakenfold and Tall Paul having a chat before Oakey heads off to the Gallery Arena, quite the site to see the two legends together.
Sasha takes to the decks as the crowds begin to darken as a few rain drops being to fall. With his progressive style Sasha starts off slow and slowly builds the journey up to a style that only Sasha is capable of. A couple tracks in and the rain beings to come down, however this doesn’t affect the crowd, they are more up for it than ever! A few umbrella’s go up and jackets go on, some of the crowd try and pack into the tents but the majority enjoy the rainfall which lasts only 20 or 30 minutes.
We head back to the Bedrock Arena to catch John Digweed who to my surprise is playing a rocking set to a fully packed out tent. Playing a more uplifting set than I expected I quite enjoyed seeing Digweed back here again.
With a muddy ground and nite falling, headliner on the Main Stage Armin takes to the decks to massive applause, most of the crowd have been waiting for him and they have their dancing shoes ready. Armin gets right into the stride and the hands are up in the air from the very first beat. The world’s number one DJ never disappoints and his set is typically Armin, a journey through some of the biggest trance tunes of the moment and a selection of Armin classics.
Armin Van Buuren SW4
We leave before the end of Armin’s set to avoid the mass exodus, having enjoyed quite an awesome day at SW4. With most of the day quite pleasant before the rain, a great lineup and crowd to suit, SW4 once again shows why it is one of the most popular dance music based festivals in the UK.
You can see more photos here in our Facebook album.
