Beat-Herder turns 10 with Basement Jaxx and more

Over the last decade, Beat-Herder has come to be known for its unrivalled attention to detail when building the site. Built entirely from scratch by hand, the festival houses all manner of surprises at every twist and turn. Each year unexpected new areas magically appear for festival-goers to stumble upon. Last year’s new additions included a swimming pool in the woods, housed in a Scandinavian style wooden cabin, complete with changing rooms and lifeguards and The Ring, a huge earth mound with a Stonehenge-esque entrance.

This year Beat-Herder was crowned winner of the Extra Festival Activity Award at the UK Festival Awards, an award that recognises events that paid that extra bit of attention to detail that creates a magical and unforgettable festival experience.

Today, the first names for the special 10th anniversary edition of the festival are announced. Headlining the festival on Friday will be Basement Jaxx, the dancefloor conquering duo whose prolific output over the last 10 years is responsible for shaping UK dance music as we know it today. Considered by many to be national treasures, their back catalogue contains hit after hit and they were among the first to bring dance music to the mainstream with their progressive yet accessible sound.

Joining them are Saturday headliners, electro swing kings the Parov Stelar Band.Beat-Herder was the very first UK festival to debut the beloved Austrian pioneer of the electro swing movement, Parov Stelar, back in 2012 and the crowds have been crying out for his infectious and incendiary show with full live band ever since.

Also confirmed are true Motown legends Martha and the Vandellas, who are playing a rare UK date following a worldwide tour last year in honour of the 50th anniversary of their signature track Dancing in the Street. The traditionally dance-focussed Toil Treesstage will play host to the likes of legendary DJs like Andrew Weatherall and PaulWoolford, Krysko and Dirtybird stalwarts Catz 'n Dogz and emerging star Shiba San. Old friends and original headliners of the very first Beat-Herder Festival, dub legends Dreadzone are also confirmed to return a decade later for the tenth anniversary.

Everywhere Festival 2014 Review

Like Christmas for electronic music lovers, dollop's sold-out Everywhere Festival returned for its biggest Nottingham event, offering an eclectic range of 53 acts across six city venues.

Tourist's blend of building house beats on Together and the added soulful vocals of Lianne La Havas on Patterns drew a large crowd to Stealth early on. Later, Jamie xx-like percussion is added to the pitch-shifted vocals of Haim's The Wire.

Over in the Rescue Rooms, an increasing crowd awaits hotly-tipped producer Lxury. Playing Disclosure co-produced, J.A.W.S, the punchy synths and house beats flow before The Mechanism – Disclosure's house collaboration with Friend Within.

It's not all just bass and flashing lights, as the upstairs Red Room holds a secret cinema showing classic cult films.

Meanwhile in Stealth, American future-R&B singer, Kelela, who later joins Hudson Mohawke onstage during his set, showcases her effortless vocals which skitter over forward-thinking bassy trap beats in Bank Head and Enemy. Dressed in a black jumpsuit, she glides across the front of the stage during Floor Show and Go All Night before appreciatively thanking the crowd and ending with blog-favorite track, Cut For Me.

Back in Rescue Rooms, chilled electronica comes in the form of Bondax-esque duo, Snakehips, who impress early on with an edit of Amerie's, 2005 hit, One Thing before their own funky production, On My Own. Eponymous visuals flash throughout their breezy remix of The Weeknd's Wanderlust before the energetic trap beats of Make It.

Over in Rock City, the Skreamizm party is in full swing, with Artwork and Skream, respectively dropping techno and house tracks including a remix of Crystal Waters' classic Gypsy Woman before Skream follows with a remix of Fatboy Slim's Song For Shelter.

Meanwhile, Birmingham producer Hannah Wants bought her bassy house tracks, like, Dappy and Rudeboy, to a full Walkabout crowd.

House legend Mark Kinchen consistently impresses with a two-hour set of back-to-back remixes. He opens strongly by playing his remix of My Head Is A Jungle which is later followed by his edit of Rudimental's, Powerless, with Becky Hills' vocals tweaked to fit the house beat. Remixes of Paloma Faith and Duke Dumont follow suit, before Aluna Francis' vocals on White Noise are mixed seemlessly into his number one hit, Look Right Through.

Paul Woolford closes Rock City, taking the packed crowd on a journey of techno and piano-house, including late 5am highlight, Erotic Discourse.

With London counterpart, Elsewhere Festival, also held over the weekend, dollop's parties are continuing to attract the biggest names in the world of electronic music.

A series of ten events marking dollop's tenth birthday are currently taking place.

Disclosure bring Wild Life concept to Exit Dance Arena

The world-renowned EXIT Festival Dance Arena is the place to be this summer, presenting the most exclusive concepts in the electronic music scene. First up on Thursday, July 10th DISCLOSURE are bringing their special WILD LIFE show to Serbia. Also being announced is the first names of Part II of Exit’s fifteen years in Dance back to back specials. If you were there for the Decade of Dance in 2009 you will remember the groundbreaking performances. Get ready for another set of surprises!

Revealed to the world just a few days ago, WILD LIFE, is a conceptual night presented by Disclosure showcasing performers they love. Featuring alongside DISCLOSURE's LIVE set, will be exclusive b2b performances including; CARL CRAIG vs GREEN VELVET, DUSKY vs PAUL WOOLFORD and JACKMASTER & ONEMAN present Can U Dance!

Playing at EXIT for the first time will be the unstoppable British duo DISCLOSURE, who set new foundations when it comes to electronic music, proving that alternative electronic music can succeed in the commercial music world with no compromise whatsoever. Brothers Guy (22) and Howard (19) Lawrence already have a name to themselves, proven by sold-out performances and chart-topping tracks, as well as a significant change in the British electronic music scene which opens doors to many new underground talents. This year, they released their debut album Settle which has already reached number one at the UK Album Chart, and was also nominated for the Best Album at the Mercury Awards 2013 and Best Dance/Electronica Album at the Grammy Awards 2014. For the upcoming Brit Awards, Disclosure are nominated in four categories: MasterCard British Album of the Year, British Single, British Group, as well as British Breakthrough Act, also announcing a special performance at the awards featuring one of the hottest new names, the New Zealand singer Lorde. They are coming to EXIT Festival with their live set, which is praised as one of the best live performances in the world of electronic music.

Celebrating the 15th Edition in true EXIT style, the iconic Dance Arena will do the second part of their infamous back to back sets revered in 2009 for their 10th Edition. This year sees another selection of DJs performing in battle and it’s going to be another memorable year.

First up is Carl Craig vs Green Velvet. Electronic music visionary and the creative magnate, Carl Craig, owner of the eponymous label Planet E is going to shake the Dance Arena once again, and joined by Green Velvet will be here to elevate partying to the fullest! An eccentric Chicagoan, musician and producer best known for his cyberpunk hairstyles and numerous house music hits, going under the name Green Velvet, is already considered a favorite by Dance Arena’s visitors since his closing of the EXIT festival in 2009 together with Carl Cox. This year, in a special b2b session with Carl Craig, he is ready to pump up EXIT’s Dance Arena!

Next up is Dusky vs Paul Woolford. The London duo Dusky have proven very productive and imaginative when it comes to writing elegant orchestral grooves and piano themes, as well as creating heavier house and techno rhythms, and this is exactly what defines their genre – composing electronic music with a significant touch of depth, soul and originality. After several joint gigs, a special chemistry arose between them and Paul Woolford, also known as Special Request, a man who built his flourishing career as a DJ, producer, label owner, remixer, collaborator and experimentalist.

And finally introducing Jackmaster & Oneman presents Can U Dance, a new show being showcased at only a handful of shows this summer, which promises a great party on four turntables! Oneman is a synonym for Rinse FM, a very well known radio station, a brand and a subculture. Jackmaster not only is a co-founder of the highly influential label Numbers, but is also an amazing DJ – he simply lives to play people records, which is enormously felt in his eclectic sets, containing a wide span of music, from forgotten classics to some of the hottest dance floor hits. Together, they will present a concept that surpasses the idea of b2b without great manifesto or conceptual nonsense, no masks or go-go dancers, it's all about what comes out of those speakers. Yes, U Can Dance.

Joining the already announced Skrillex, Rudimental, Dub Fx And Koven the 15th edition of EXIT Festival will be marked with the sign of EXIT ADVENTURE, which will take us to EXIT, held from July 10th to 13th at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, continuing at SEA DANCE FESTIVAL, held from July 15 to 17 at the beautiful Adriatic Jaz Beach in Montenegro. Get ready for an unforgettable road trip and enjoy a diverse range of artists, for seven unforgettable nights spent with your best mates in the sizzling hot Balkan sunshine. Sounds good? It’s time for EXIT ADVENTURE!
