Boomtown is the UK’s premier ska and reggae festival in Hampshire and it returns for its fourth year over the weekend 9th-12th August 2012.
Boomtown Fair
The 2011 event saw the festival sell out for a third time in its three year history with the festival goers bringing as much of the entertainment to the show as the organisers.
With so much packed into the small town, last year’s highlights included; majestic headliner Gogol Bordello, late night shenanigans from the Arcadia crew in their custom built roaming ‘Bug’ stage, dance-offs, marriages and body shaking bass round the clock from Bassline Circus and The Lions Den!
Year-on-year Boomtown Fair receives thousands of requests from unsigned acts from around the region (as one of the premier festivals in Hampshire) and across the UK applying to play at the festival, but spaces are always limited. So, for the first time, the Hampshire Festival has joined forces with the Live and Unsigned competition to give festival gigs to at least two acts to perform at the award winning festival! The lucky winners will be chosen from the Live Showcase Finals, to play a slot at Boomtown Fair.

Cotton Steadman of Boomtown Fair says; ‘Here at Boomtown we are excited to be working alongside Live and Unsigned. As a grassroots festival it's all about supporting up and coming artists and new music and keeping the scene new and fresh. We are really looking forward to discovering some new talent!’

So it's almost the end of 2011 and what better way to ring out the year then to the sounds of one of the best bands of the year; The Horrors. Their third album 'Skying' has enjoyed a healthy critical and commercial (No.5 in the UK album charts) response and it was brilliantly showcased at the Fred Perry Subsonic night at the Garage in Islington.
The Horrors were not the only impressive aspect of the night as their support came from Toy. A new band that helped create an atmosphere that would pulsate through the night. With a similar style to The Horrors, I'm sure many of The Horrors fans in attendance will be left curious by Toy as it's rare that support band leaves such a strong impression; a great advert for them.
The Horrors came out and frontman Faris Badwan explained that he hadn't been feeling too well recently, even having to cancel several recent performances. Faris would therefore be restricted to sit on a stool throughout the gig. This was not really an inconvenience and even seemed to compliment the raspy modest vocals that Faris contributes to The Horrors. Opener 'Changing the Rain' was a great indicator of things to come and songs such as 'Still Life' and 'Sea Within a Sea' kept the mood ticking brilliantly. The Horrors set however came to a close with 'Skying' Centre piece and set highlight; 'Moving Further Away'. This elongated version saw guitarist Joshua Hayward showing his raw ability before the songs epic conclusion, leaving everyone wanting more. However, that was it from The Horrors as a band, with the rest of the night being taken care of by guest DJ's (one being Horrors bassist Rhys Webb)
All in all it was a fantastic night at The Garage and the people at Fred Perry Subsonic will be hoping that this great success will continue throughout 2012.
Also joining the line up on Sunday 24th are alternative rock band Band of Skulls and award winning singer and guitarist Joan Armatrading.
For the first time, on Friday 22nd June the Isle of Wight Festival 2012 will host a dance night in the atmospheric Big Top and headlining are the unique Groove Armada present Red Light who will bring their 4-deck, multi F-X, audiovisual DJ experience to the Festival. Watch this space, as more top acts will be announced in the New Year. Sunday 24th June sees the loud guitars and larger than life drumming of Black Stone Cherry, Spector, Zulu Winter, The Milk and Switchfoot turn up the heat.
Appearing on the Garden Stage will be festival favourites the Brit Floyd who are headlining on Thursday 21st June. The exceptional Crystal Castles will headline on Friday 22nd June withPenguin Prison. Headlining on Saturday 23rd June will be The Charlatans, an inspirational force in British music who will be performing their iconic album Tellin’ Stories in full. American punk rock band X and singer-songwriter Terry Reid also join the line-up.

We will also be raising funds for a brilliant local charity 'Artshape' who work with individuals, communities and organisations to combat exclusion from the arts, with a particular focus on working with adults facing barriers to participation.
The Hullabaloo Festival will be a sustainable festival, maximising the use of reusable/recyclable/bio- degradable products wherever possible. Recycling waste wherever possible, disposing of non-recyclable waste in a responsible way and encouraging visitors, performers and contractors to do the same. Norfolk’s newest music festival is held at the Norfolk Showground over the course of two days towards the end of the summer, and since its debut last year has already began to rival some of the bigger, more established festivals.

The Stone Roses were one of the pioneers of British guitar pop’s ‘Madchester’ era, ruling the scene of the late 80’s and early 90’s. Their comeback was announced in October 2011 and quickly hit major music media headlines with the plan of their forthcoming world tour. The first triple-gig of the tour is set for Heaton Park in Manchester, with the initial 2 nights selling out in less than 15 minutes. Not a bad sign, considering the capacity of 150.000. Another revealing piece of data: The Stone Roses record sales grew with an unbelievable 1000% after announcing the reunion.
Rumor has it that the band is already thinking about recording a new album, so you better prepare for a total conquest of The Stone Roses, peaking at the 20th Sziget Festival.
