Bloodstock 2015 Ticket Update

Just five short weeks ‘til they open the gates at Catton Park and the metal hoardes flood on to the hallowed turf for BLOODSTOCK 2015!

In celebration, BLOODSTOCK are releasing their day tickets at 9am on Wednesday 1st July.  Tickets are priced at £60 each, plus booking fee and are available from http://www.seetickets.com/event/bloodstock-2015/catton-park/809956.  If you can’t make it for the whole weekend, come join the metal party for just one day and catch one of 2015’s headliners, TRIVIUM, WITHIN TEMPTATION or ROB ZOMBIE, plus much, much more.

Following the success of 2014’s debut outing, BLOODSTOCK is delighted to announce that the Rock and Metal (RAM) Gallery will once again be part of the festival’s on-site attractions.

Showcasing a selection of art and memorabilia, the exhibition will expand on last year’s event and will feature work by BLOODSTOCK co-founder Paul Raymond Gregory, himself an acclaimed artist with an extensive body of work which includes many famous album sleeves and monolithic pieces inspired by the writings of JRR Tolkien.

Returning again this year is the amazing guitar maker/luthier, Cynosure.  Working to re-define the guitar not just as a functional instrument, but as a working, playable piece of art, he will present several of his unique creations including the brand new RAM Guitar, specially commissioned by Paul Raymond Gregory.  Click for more info at www.cynosureguitars.com/ or www.facebook.com/CynosureGuitars.

Renowned artist Mark Wilkinson will also have works on display.  Mark is the mastermind behind many iconic albums sleeves for Marillion, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and The Darkness, amongst others.  2015 marks the 30th anniversary of Marillion’s iconic third album, ‘Misplaced Childhood’, so Mark’s inclusion in the gallery is especially timely.  More of Mark’s work can be viewed at his website, www.the-masque.com.

Emphasizing the link between music, imagery and the written word, the exhibition will also feature the work of photographers and authors.  Fiaz Farrelly and Alison Richards will both be displaying a selection of their dynamic rock photography, while Ramon Martos, author of ‘…And Justice For Art – Stories About Heavy Metal Album Covers’ and Alex Lewis, author of ‘J.R.R.Tolkien: Codemaker, Spy-master, Hero’, will also be represented.  Ramon’s book tells the tales behind some of metal’s best-known album sleeves, while Alex’s work on Tolkien brings together Paul Raymond Gregory’s own Tolkien-inspired creations and the enormous influence that The Lord Of The Rings and Tolkien’s other writings have had on metal music.

More information on exhibitors is available at Paul’s website, www.studio54.co.uk.

Professionally hung, lit and housed in a specially constructed space, the exhibition marks a step in the long term goal of establishing a new permanent rock venue, with Paul returning to his roots as an artist & gallery owner in support of both art and music. The proposed venue in Derbyshire would include a live music space with bar, rehearsal and recording facilities, and a permanent exhibition space.  A true hub for British rock and metal in the heart of the Midlands, the true birthplace of metal.  Check out more on Paul’s idea here: www.studio54.co.uk/index.php/rock-and-metal-museum/

If you’re travelling to BLOODSTOCK by train, don’t forget to book your Big Green Coach shuttle bus tickets to get you & your camping gear from Lichfield City rail station to the festival site.  There’s still time to book coach travel from 26 different locations around the country or a coach & festival ticket package.  Check out all the info & ticket options at http://goo.gl/23pfik.

Drake closes Wireless Festival’s 10th anniversary with a bang

Canadian rapper Drake finally made it back to London's Wireless Festival after a cancellation last year and it was well worth the wait!  With the sun shining down on London's Finsbury Park and the crowd at full capacity, Drake wastes no time in getting into his new single Legend off his latest album 'If You're Reading This It's Too Late' and instantly reminded the crowd what they were missing.  With vocals in full swing and the crowd bopping up and down, Drake trawls through his massive catalogue of tunes including, Trophies, We Made It, Crew Love, Tuesday, The Motto, Hold On Were Going Home, Started From the Bottom, Take Care, Energy and more!

In full swag mode and working the crowd into the palm of his hand, Drake connects with the fans by constantly reminding them of his love for London, his second home he pronounces.  Covering the stage floor and giving the entire crowd love, Drake's showmanship is like no other!  There is no ego, and its plain to see that he is as happy to be here as is the adorning crowd.  With a set full of pyrotechnics and the stage transforming to a Jungle midway through, Drake is clearly in his element commanding the stage solo for the majority of his 80 minute performance.

All in all, it was quite a fitting end to what was brilliant day at the 10th anniversary of Wireless Festival, with Rita Ora, Katy B, Chance the Rapper & Public Enemy all playing amazing performances.

Citadel full creative lineup announced for 2015

Citadel is London's brightest new festival, a day which looks set to encapsulate the perfect summer Sunday afternoon – bursting to the seams with live music, fine dining, debates, comedy, dancing, arts, craft, boutiques and much more.

From the creators of the award-winning multi-arts Wilderness Festival, Citadel boasts an impressive musical programming headlined by Ben Howard and Bombay Bicycle Club…however, the event looks set to offer much more than your standard music festival.

In between performances from the likes of Nick Mulvey and Neneh Cherry, duck in to the Sunday Papers Live, grab a Bloody Mary and nestle into a comfy sofa to listen to talks and debates from some of the UK's finest minds. Politician Tessa Jowell, activist Maajid Nawaaz, satirist Jolyon Rubinstein and journalist Ben Judah are amongst the speakers at the special edition of this much-loved gathering.

It wouldn't be the ultimate summer Sunday without a lazy lunch. Richard Turner (of Hawksmoor, Meatopia, Pitt Cue Co. fame) will host a series of lovingly crafted long table banquets with slow roast shoulder of lamb, chocolate tarts and crudités all on offer.

London's finest dining institutions will also be onsite to satisfy stomachs, and there's some-thing for everyone – from Le Bun's French-American cuisine to Constancia On The Road's Argentinian steaks – via Voodoo Ray's tasty pizzas. Wash it all down with cold beers from Meantime Brewery and Kozel.

For some comic relief, head over to the Comedy Tent, which is presented by none other than Underbelly – a fixture both in the city and at the Edinburgh festival. Some of the best London comedians on the circuit will feature on the billing – from rising acts to esteemed performers. Expect to witness some real gems ahead of their Edinburgh performances as well as handpicked upcoming acts. You chuckled at them here first…

Make sure you pay a visit to the Park Bandstand, hosted by Continental Drifts and Global Local, which will feature a melting pot of traditional music, from folk ceilidhs to hoedowns. It's set to be an incredibly lively pocket of Citadel, with swing dancing, brass bands and sets from bands such as Perhaps Contraption, The Brass Funkeys and Cut A Shine.

Dust yourself off and get stuck into our Sunday Sports Day, which features nostalgic fa-vourites with a twist…think Musical Sack Races, Disco Dodgeball and Rum Relay Rac-es complete with cheerleaders, mascots and spoof medal ceremonies. You can also gath-er your friends and register for The Ultimate Victoria Park Volleyball Championships. Be warned, this is not your usual Sports Day…expect the unexpected, from theatrical pitch invasions to inebriated referees.

If you prefer your games more leisurely than lively, take in a spot of croquet, badminton and Giant Jenga whilst you sip a cocktail. It's the taking part that counts…

Your little ones are welcome at Citadel too…arrive early in the afternoon to make the most of family-friendly games in the Park. From 12-2, the Rock ’N Roller Disco will host a Kid’s Disco, and from 12-2 the brilliant Arcola Theatre will host a Kid’s Sports Day, with sack races, space hoppers and much more. There’ll also be a child-friendly activities in-cluding Giant Jenga, face painting and dance workshops throughout the day to keep the young ‘uns entertained.

Elsewhere, explore your creative side at the Citadel Art Studio in partnership with The Indytute, with classes including Get Rich or Tie Dying, Origami Masterclass and Fight-er Kite Making. There’s also something for the little ones, with an Indytute Kids teacher and illustrator Sophie Ward running art classes all afternoon.

Meanwhile, our Dance Workshops will ensure you can become a master in the likes of capoeira, body percussion, swing dance, hoop hop and more.

Bust a move and try out your new dance moves to the soundtrack of blues, soul and rock ’n roll at the Rock ’N Roller Disco, hosted by legendary Camden club night Cherry Cola.

For the sartorially-inclined, there’s plenty of fashion and beauty stalls to transform yourself. Sift through beautiful clothing and accessories at Dancing Leopard, OOTO Clothing, Vi-olet’s Box, The Wick Market, Gypsy East, Mystic Moon and Tallulah Minxy, then re-ceive a makeover from experts of all things glamour Miss Lippy, In Your Dreams and Glint & Glory Tattoo Bar.

Citadel will be the day when the city comes together and takes a collective breath. If only every Sunday could be like this…

Bestival announces Sunday headliner: MISSY ELLIOT!

SUNDAY NIGHT HEADLINER REVEALED

MISSY ELLIOTT

GETS HER ISLAND FREAK ON

(EUROPEAN FESTIVAL EXCLUSIVE)

www.Bestival.net / Facebook  / Twitter / Instagram /  Tumblr

#Bestival15 / #SummerofLove

She’s the best around with the crazy style and her music makes us lose control, so we’re unutterably excited to announce that the incredible Missy Elliott will be headlining Sunday night at our Summer of Love in a European festival exclusive. One of the greatest artists of all time, and a true musical innovator, we couldn’t be more ecstatic that she’s coming to Robin Hill for her first UK show in nine years, and what is destined to be one of the most epic Bestival finales of all time. Ever.

Commenting on her headline appearance, Missy Elliott said: “I'm very excited to be performing at Bestival this year! I can't wait to see all my fans I haven't seen in some time… new ones and my day one fans! We are gonna have a blast together! Bring your dancing outfits and kicks!

Bestival b-boy Rob da Bank says: “So, putting the final pieces together for the world’s most intricate jigsaw puzzle that is Bestival, I’m mighty proud to announce our Sunday headliner Missy Elliott. Needing no introduction Missy is the epitome of hip-hop royalty, the first lady of party-starting club bangers and a downright legend. I cannot wait to watch the most successful female rap artist ever to Work It at Bestival 2015!

Hailing from Portsmouth (calm down Pompey crew, not that one) in Virginia, Missy Elliott is one of music’s most successful MCs, songwriters, and producers. She’s racked up five Grammy awards, one double platinum and four platinum albums, and over 166 awards from VMAs to MOBOs and beyond, but more importantly she drops bombs. With tight beats and sick flows, Missy is a one-woman hit machine, who has had pop music’s greats including Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Beyoncé queueing up to work with her.

Her production innovation has had a huge impact on music globally, firing out guilt edged monsters by the truckload from The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly), Hot Boyz and Get Ur Freak On to Work It, Pass The Dutch and Lose Control the stamp of her influence can be heard loud and clear to this day. Her surprise guest appearance at this year’s Super Bowl was mind-shatteringly amazing and blew us all completely away, proving that she’s just as vital right now as she ever has been, and you know she really is gonna work it for the final Bestival main stage set of the year. Joining Underworld, Duran Duran and the Chemical Brothers to complete 2015s set of headliners, Missy’s not just big in the game she’s unparalleled, and we really couldn’t be more ridiculously overjoyed that she’s coming to Bestival. So don’t you dare go home early, this is gonna be legendary.

Best Kept Secret Festival 2015 Review

This weekend took me to Beekse Bergen, a safari park in Hilvarenbeek in the Netherlands for the third installment of Best Kept Secret Festival. As far as festivals go, it’s still a baby, but with what it has to offer it seems the Dutch have it down. From gourmet food and wooden floors, to wristbands that double as wallets and a keep it green recycling policy, there’s not much more you could want from a three day event. Not to mention its stages hosted acts such as the Libertines, Balthazar, A$AP Rocky, Earl Sweatshirt, Royal Blood, Noel Gallagher and Alt-J, with well thought out schedules which means hardly any clashes.

But that’s not all, for example, the whole festival is cashless. Some UK and other European festivals have started operating a token system when it comes to drinks, but BKS tooks things even further. On your wristband there’s a little plastic chip, which you top up (up to 150 euros a time) and anything you buy whilst inside is done via the balance on your chip. No more scrambling for change, so more losing tokens or paper tickets, your wallet has relocated to your wrist. Which is an even better thing when you realise that the food lineup is almost as good as the music one. Wood fired pizza, smokers that boast delicious pulled pork, vegan friendly cheesecake and stuffed meatballs, it really doesn’t get much better. There’s also a massive tent run by ethically sound TOMS, where for every cup of coffee sold they donate to wateraid, complete with a lounging area that where you can sit, relax, and look out over the huge lake that sits just right of the main stage.

With such entertainment and tents as this, it’s relatively easy to forget why i’ve made it all the way to Holland in the first place, but remembering the line up quickly bring me back.

MUSIC // FRIDAY

Friday saw the likes of two-piece rockers Drenge and the scouse Circa Waves take to the main stage, entertaining crowds with their own version of indie rock, with Stage Two boasting Earl Sweatshirt, who although rocked his set, would probably have been better suited to a later show, but all in good time, as The Jesus and Mary Chain worked the second stage when it came to their set. The evening brought with it stylised folk in the shape of The Tallest Man on Earth, but The Libertines, the ones it seemed everyone was waiting for eventually took to the stage at 10:30pm.

Pete and Carl rocked up, hats and all, and as per usual they did not disappoint. If anyone was wondering what ever did become of the likely lads, I can tell you that they are back and definitely not going anywhere soon. Though last year saw them play a few shows throughout the UK and Europe, their first show of 2015 has meant that they have firmly rooted themselves as rock gods once again. Even standing in the crowd you could feel the energy radiating. With a set list as strong as it could be, including new track Gunga Gin, it was an exciting time for anyone who dare call themselves a fan of the boys in the band.

MUSIC // SATURDAY

Friday came and went and Saturday rolled on through, and with it a tiny bit of sunshine. Vibing up Stage Five were spanish rock quartet Hinds, not yet well known, but ones to watch who kept the energy high and created plenty of fun for the crowd. Belgian blues rockers Balthazar tore up the main stage, lulling us all with melodic riffs, followed shortly by The Vaccines, who are set to cement themselves in the music hall of fame with the *impending release of English Graffiti, and the legend himself Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds ending the day on Stage One with his own brand of British indie charm, not to mention a couple of Oasis tracks thrown in for good measure. But Saturday for me was all about Stage two and A$AP Rocky. Not knowing what to expect, I crammed myself into the packed tent ready and waiting for what he had to offer, and though he seemed to not pay much attention to the scheduled stage time (fifteen minutes late) he definitely put on a show, using the backdrop to play self curated clips and images that was set to the music and the whole performance. Something a little different from a hip hop show that was much appreciated.

SUNDAY // MUSIC

By the time sunday came around, the hope for sunshine had definitely evaporated as we seemed to start the day with a heavy downfall, but a bit of torrential rain never stopped me at a festival before and I wasn’t going to let it this time either. With plenty to see, the day kicked off with Wolf Alice, a london group reeling in the excitement of releasing their debut album My Love Is Cool on that day tore up the stage, swiftly followed by Gengahr and then back to the mainstage for some melodic tunes by First Aid Kit. One of the highlights of the day for me however were Royal Blood, who came on complete with extra speakers and stadium lights, just in case anyone had any doubts about the ability of the two piece to put on a show. After getting the crowd a little riled up (must say there’s been a few mixed reviews on their attitude) they ended up putting on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, and the moshers in the middle seemed to agree. But coming to a Dutch festival, especially one with the vibe of Best Kept Secret, it’s clear the winners of the weekend were Sunday Headliners Alt-J. Paying back to their Dutch fans – they were bigger in Holland than they were in the UK at the beginning of their indie rock reign – the bond became apparent as they ended the festival on a massive high.

Overall, Best Kept Secret has a lot to offer. I must admit the vibe is incredibly different to anything I’ve ever been to before. A bit politer, and a lot more ‘high-end’ its perfect for anyone who likes to listen to some good bands, eat some yummy food surrounded by scenic views and a stunning lake, and lets face it, who doesn’t?
