Chic ft Nile Rodgers performing at Ibiza Rocks

In less than one month Jake Bugg will kick off another phenomenal summer of live gigs under the stars at the Rocks Hotels.  The countdown is on, the poolside stage is in place and the best bill in the Balearics is complete. Bonifide festival favourites Biffy Clyro, Beady Eye, The Courteeners, AlunaGeorge and Professor Green will play headline shows and Rocks will also welcome a living legend to the White Isle when Chic featuring Nile Rodgers bring disco fever to Ibiza.

As well as huge festival headliners, global selling artists and music icons, Rocks proudly presents a platform for the best breaking talent. Findlay, Amplify Dot, London Grammar and Temples join previously announced supports Palma Violets, The Other Tribe, Jagwar Ma and Redlight to showcase the best in new music.

This year, Ibiza Rocks will celebrate it’s eighth birthday whilst Mallorca Rocks turns three and what better band to bring in for the best parties in the Balearics than Beady Eye, with Liam Gallagher – icon to the Rocks generation – swaggering centre stage and debuting tracks from their hugely anticipated second album BE. Part of the Rocks family and master of new music Zane Lowe will also play, with support coming from Temples to complete a stellar birthday bill.

It’s a Rocks debut for Beady Eye but festival giants Biffy Clyro are responsible for some standout Rocks shows, having played the opening party in 2010 and headlining the 6th birthday party in 2011. The boys and are back, bigger than ever, to rock Mallorca and Ibiza to their core once more in July.

Back by popular demand is fans favourite Professor Green who will also return with new material for massive shows in both resorts in July and is clearly happy about it, saying, “Very, very excited to be back at Ibiza and Mallorca Rocks, can't wait to perform some of the new album! Let's f@ckin' 'ave it!

In August, it’s a Rocks debut for AlunaGeorge who have exploded onto the scene and featured on one of the biggest tracks of the year ‘White Noise’ with Disclosure. Nominated for the BRITs Critics Choice Award and BBC’s Sound of 2013 and with debut album ‘Body Music’ out in July, this will be one seriously hot summer set.

September will see a music legend at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel as Chic feat. Nile Rodgers perform huge hit after hit, live under the stars. From Madness, to The Specials to New Order, every year Rocks books a band that have shaped the music scene and influenced generations after them.  Nile Rodgers is one of the most influential producers of all time, forming CHIC in the 70’s with tracks such as ‘Le Freak,’ ‘I Want Your Love,’ ‘Everybody Dance’ and ‘Good Times’ propelling disco back in the day and still dance classics now. From CHIC’s own hits to Rodgers producing massive tracks like ‘We Are Family’ and ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’ for Sister Sledge, ‘Upside Down’ and ‘I'm Coming Out’ for Diana Ross, producing David Bowie's biggest selling album ‘Let's Dance’ and Madonna's blockbuster album ‘Like a Virgin’ – Nile Rodgers is ‘The Hitmaker’.  Add to that working with Jeff Beck, The Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, and most recently Daft Punk, giving them their biggest hit to date with No.1 single ‘Get Lucky’ – the soundtrack of the summer.  The Ibiza Rocks crowd will certainly get lucky in September as a true dance music pioneer takes centre stage.

Whilst Foals head up the Ibiza Rocks Closing Party, it’s Manchester lads The Courteeners that will take to the stage for this coveted Closing Party slot at Mallorca Rocks Hotel in September (17/09).

Shane Murray, Promoter said“We’re incredibly proud of this year's line up, the mix feels just right. I don't think you will see Biffy Clyro or Foals doing anything as intimate as our Rocks shows this year. Bringing two genuine music icons in Liam Gallagher with Beady Eye and Nile Rodgers with Chic to perform will be big highlights. Liam is an icon of the Rocks generation and Nile has inspired and influenced music beyond recognition – especially in Ibiza. At the same time brilliant new talent like Jake Bugg and AlunaGeorge are coming through as headliners. It’s an exciting time. We’re in for another brilliant summer in the Balearics”

Beat Herder Festival completes its lineup for 2013

The Beat-Herder Festival is delighted to announce its final acts for 2013, including Saturday night headliners and Portuguese party starters Buraka Som Sistema with their inimitable brand of African kuduro infused beats, and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, who are newly confirmed alongside previously announced headliners Groove Armada and Jimmy Cliff. Undisputed godfathers of disco, Chic have been making waves this year thanks to Nile Rogers’ involvement in one of the most anticipated releases of the year, Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. True pioneers of the disco sound, and one of the most influential bands to emerge from and continually endure the last four decades, they are certain to deliver an incendiary live set packed full of classics such as Le Freak, Good Times, Everybody Dance and I Want Your Love.

Nile Rodgers

Joining them will be Moda collective head honcho Tom Starr, French five-piece and Bella Union/Cooperative signings Concrete Knives, whose charming and exuberant indie-pop tunes are perfect for the summer, local York electro-sixpiece Grinny Grandad, world champion beatboxer THePETEBOX, Cardiff based electro-punk band Sicknote, and Belgian DJ/producer duo Mumbai Science, whose tracks such as Ancova and Gold have been played the world over by the likes of Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, Tiga and 2 Many DJs.

What to expect for 2013:
Built entirely and lovingly by hand over 12 months, Beat-herder is quite literally a world like no other. Nestled in a beautiful valley in the heart of Lancashire, the site encompasses rolling hills, stone circles, fire pits, a network of secret underground tunnels accessed through telephone boxes, a working men’s club (complete with a troupe of Bette Lynch esque ‘ladies’), 10 feet high wicker foxes, giant lizards made from hollowed out old fighter planes and dozens of stages and soundsystems – some where you least expect them.
At the heart of the site lies a copse known as the Toil Trees, inside which all manner of surprises and curiosities await. Winding through the trees is a built-to-scale, fully functioning Victorian Street housing a sweetshop, a record shop, an Irish pub, the Hotel California saloon bar and a 50 X 30 ft solid wood parish church complete with pews and altar, whose regular services are less about prayer and repentance and more about good times, disco and debauchery.
Venture deeper into the woods, past the vintage car converted into a DJ booth where anyone is welcome to come and spin vinyl, and the trees open up into a magical woodland clearing in which an impressive tulip lipped stage sits, and where DJs play day and night.
By building everything from the sign posts to the bars from scratch, incredible care is taken and an unrivalled attention to detail is paid, creating a true alternate reality where ‘beats and barminess’ are the only order of the day, for three blissful days. And with the Beat-Herder team having been plotting and scheming throughout the winter, watch this space for more details on two new areas and many more spectacular surprises to come.

Chic ft Nile Rodgers and more for Festival No 6

The award-winning Festival No. 6 has announced Chic ft. Nile Rodgers and a second raft of stellar line-up additions, ahead of revealing their final announcements in May. Festival No.6 is a pioneering festival concept bringing together music, arts and culture in the most incredible festival site you will ever see. Festival No.6 takes place over the weekend of 13-15 September, 2013 in the eccentric surrounds of Portmeirion, Wales, home of the cult TV series The Prisoner.

Chic have sold over 100 million records including huge worldwide hits 'Good Times', 'Everybody Dance' and 'Le Freak'. Nile has worked with a staggering list of true music legends, including Michael Jackson, Madonna, David Bowie, Diana Ross, Prince, Mick Jagger and, most recently, Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams on current single 'Get Lucky'.

Nile Rodgers said:

"I've never been to Portmeirion but it looks like a truly magical place. Chic always love to play somewhere unique and special, especially if we've never played there before, so we're really looking forward to Festival No.6.

"It's another big year for Chic and myself, with my collaboration with Daft Punk and lots of other exciting things planned, and Festival No.6 looks like being one of the highlights. We're looking forward to showing Portmeirion that there ain't no party like a disco party!"

Nile Rodgers

Also newly confirmed is Super Furry Animal frontman Gruff Rhys’s and producer Boom Bip’s acclaimed collaborative project Neon Neon, along with soul songstress Lianne La Havas and lyrical virtuoso Tricky.

Daughter, Wire, London Grammar, Leisure Society, Money, Melt Yourself Down, Mary Epworth, Dan Croll, Wave Machines, Sivu, Islet and Sam Airey also join the carefully curated line-up that already includes The Manic Street Preachers, James Blake andEverything Everything, I am Kloot, AlunaGeorge and Laura Mvula amongst others.

The DJ line-up has also expanded to welcome the legendary Daddy G and founding member of Massive Attack, Horse Meat Disco, Will Sergent of Echo & the Bunnymen, Crazy P, Psychemagik, Sancho Panza, Pete Herbert, Low Life, Heavenly Social DJ's, Jagz Kooner, Dicky Trisco, AOR Disco, Guy Williams, Sophie Lloyd, Richard Hector-Jones, Bernie Connor, Nadia Ksabia and Neal Schtuum.

Music is just one part of Festival No.6. During the festival the village and the surrounding woods come alive as a unique series of inspiring venues which will come alive with intimate talks, debates, film screenings, comedy, art trails through the woods, pop up theatre and much more.

So far Punk poet John Cooper Clarke, award-winning novelist Caitlin Moran, author and Review Show critic Paul Morley and Man Booker Prize winner DBC Pierre, amongst others, have already been added to the arts and culture line-up.

Other cultural highlights include talks and readings from Tracey Thorn (Everything but the Girl), John Niven (Kill Your Friends), Bob Stanley (Saint Etienne) and Michael Smith (The Culture Show) as well as the return of the wonderful Jan Morris, one of the highlights of last year’s No.6.

A second wave of speakers, as well as a whole host of prolific comedians and cultural happenings will soon be announced – so watch this space as this year’s offering looks set to raise the bar even higher than last year.

The acts will perform across the entire site, from the historic town hall to the Colonnade gardens, to the picturesque Estuary Stage and the promenade along the river, against a back drop of neo-classical architecture, sandy beaches and palm trees.

The sleepy, Welsh fantasyland is famous for being the set of cult 60’s TV show ‘The Prisoner. The village is a wonderfully bizarre and elaborate interpretation of a Mediterranean villa, couched in the waters, mountains and forests of North Wales.
