Chase & Status, Example and more for Cornwall’s Summer Break

Annie MacManus aka Radio 1 icon, Annie Mac will be on hand to make sure Summer Break-goers will be dancing into the early hours as she pumps out her usual hard hitting electronic mixes, while Sub Focus, fresh from touring with Pendulum, will be treating the Summer Break thousands to some stunningly mixed deep beats and drum ‘n’ bass melodies.

 
Described as “one of the world’s most energetic and entertaining DJs” (Mixmag) there is no wonder that music fans travel the world to hear Kissy Sell Out perform and he will be taking to the stage this year at Summer Break. After storming onto the UK charts with “Original Nuttah” in 1994, Shy FX has gone from strength to strength, attracting fans across the continents and Summer Break welcomes the star to this year’s party.

Elliot John Gleave otherwise known as Example will be adding another dimension to the Summer Break line-up, with another great album expected this year to follow the pleasing “Won’t Go Quietly”. The dancefloor sensation, Freestylers, will be bringing their fast moving, electro-rocking monster to example2011s Summer Break, while Brighton-based Krafty Kuts will be heading down to Cornwall this summer, offering yet more phenomenal sounds through his unique blend of breakbeat, funk and hip-hop. UK Chart success, Nero, completes the current line up for Summer Break, bringing the hugely successful dubstep tunes to the Newquay beach. With more acts to be announced this 96 hour party is the only beach to be on this festival season.

Summer Break is the only way to celebrate the end of exams and the official start of the summer. Having provided the perfect setting and line-up since 2005, 2011 is set to be the best yet. Providing 96 hours of party time for UK students and set on a private beach in Cornwall offering a private student village of caravans, Summer Break is the ultimate party destination for students across the nation.

kelisThe Parklife Weekender throws open its gates this coming June to officially start the summer. Saturday 11th June at Platt Fields park welcomes pop chameleon Kelis to The Parklife Weekender main stage. Having successfully turned her hand to pop tinged with everything from hip hop to rock, Kelis’ latest offerings have been produced by dance king pin David Guetta and spurred the top five hit Acapella. With the ever expanding popularity of the dubstep scene Katy B has been well know for her collaborations with the likes of Magnetic Man, her appearance on The Parklife Weekender’s main stage is part of her rapidly rising profile as an artist within her own right. Laying on a set of glittering soulful electro will be Fenech Soler, preceded by up and coming Manchester locals Dutch Uncles. katy bThe very much in demand DJs and Moda promoters, Jaymo & Andy George and Warehouse Project resident DJ Krysko also perform. Saturday’s main stage headliner will be announced very soon.

The first of seven arenas, each hosted by Parklife’s many club land friends over the weekend will be ‘Chibuku presents’. Headlined by Berlin’s Electro DJ extraordinaire and label boss; Boys Noize, the arena also sees a live set from Fake Blood who returns to Manchester following a standout set at last year’s event. Experimental glitch outfit Modeselektor join forces with internationally renowned design collective Pfadfinderei for what promises to be a truly unique offering. Expect extra sass and attitude from electro duo Spank Rock and Amanda Blank. DJ Medhi and Riton’s Chicago House loving double act; Carte Blanche, DJs Doorly and James Rand complete the Chibuku offerings.

In an all-new 1,500 capacity arena, Simian Mobile Disco’s Delicatessen in association with Resident Advisor sets up shop in Platt Fields. The arena plays host to a headline set by Swedish techno frontrunner Adam Beyer and naturally the SMD boys take to the decks too, for what will no doubt be a typically pleasingly diverse set. Also on the Delicatessen counter will be acclaimed minimal techno DJ James Holden and old school tinged house/jazz hybrid producer Moodymann. Completing the SMD lead arena will be a live set of minimal techno, this time on a very new school trip courtesy of Irish duo; Psycatron and original Simian member Alex Mac’s Magnets.

Crosstown & Friends will enjoy an increased capacity arena for 2011’s festival. The electronic music empire brings three of its own artists to the table in Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus and Art Department, representing some of the finest house and minimal techno around. Crosstown invite friends Seth Troxler, Robert James and Clive Henry to the decks for more of the best sub genres of house and techno be it deep, tribal or underground.

Now Wave also have the benefit of a roomier arena for 2011. Headlined by NYC’s masked rapper DOOM the arena sees a set by disco troupe Hercules & Love Affair. Following a number of appearances as a Warehouse Project resident DJ in 2010, Jamie xx is one of the most recognised remixing artists of the moment and joins The Parklife Weekender line up. Offering up a slice of ambient and downbeat dubstep for the Now Wave arena will be duo Mount Kimbie, plus one of independent music’s most supportive DJs, Rob Da Bank. More dupstep will be on offer from DJ and label boss Kode 9 alongside vocalist Spaceape and Matthew Dear who will present a glittering live set of electro with hints of his glitchy techno roots. Now Wave’s line up is completed by Space Dimension Controller and Chad Valley as well as a DJ set from the Now Wave boys themselves.

Offering the best in hip hop, old skool, breaks and drum ‘n’ bass, Ape x Metropolis join forces for what could be Saturday’s most banging arena. Having remixed The Prodigy, Dizzie Rascal and Pendulum, Sub Focus headline with a live set. Joining them will be dubstep duo Nero, fresh from their nomination for the BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll. Ape x Metropolis also welcomes one of the underground’s finest DJs, Caspa & Rod Azlan, Breakage live featuring Jess Mills and the dancehall addicted Toddla T with MC DRS. Full to bursting, Ape x Metropolis also lays on Digital Soundboy Soundsystem featuring Shy FX, Donnaeo, Roses Gabor and Btraits. The arena is completed by 1Xtra’s Mista Jam, Jackwob, Riot Jazz, Silver & Prophecy plus Rich Reason.

Last but by no mean least for The Parklife Weekener’s Saturday, Hospital records’ ‘Hospitality’ arena will be headlined by RAM Recording Studio co-founder Andy C alongside MC GQ. Hospital’s own High Contrast brings his liquid funk sound into the fold followed closely by label mates London Elektricity. DJ Fresh goes back to back with The Brookes Brothers and also taking to the decks will be Belgian DnB producer Netsky. The Hospitality arena also features their very own Danny Byrd whose track ‘Ill Behaviour’ was on heavy rotation on Radio 1 towards the end of 2010. Completing Hospitality are Alix Perez, Nu:Tone featuring Natalie Williams, duo Camo & Krooked and MCs Wrec and Tonn Piper.

Saturday will also feature Adandon Silence, Gold Teeth, Belly Of The Beast, Bigger Than Barry, Dawn Raid, Good Vibrations, Knee Deep, Missionary DJs, Murkage DJs, Revolver, Selectivehearing, Zutekh and many more.

chase & statusThe Parklife Weekender’s main stage headliners on Sunday 12th June are Chase & Status; one of 2010’s most successful dance to mainstream cross over stories. Tracks from the drum ‘n’ bass duo’s album, featuring the likes of Plan B, are now staples of daytime radio. Their live set is sure to get Platt Fields park moving. Similarly enjoying cross over success, Skream and Benga, the latest additions to the BBC’s In New Music We Trust output, take to the main stage for a set of the finest dubstep. With a gig history that includes some of the most exclusive celebrity parties and fashion launches, as well as two critically acclaimed albums under his belt, Mark Ronson returns to Manchester following his Warehouse Project NYE set. Annie Mac, the maestro of all things mash-up has championed many of the Parklife Weekender’s line up through her radio show, tours and mix CDs. Her party starting set is not one to be missed. Also up on the main stage will be Labrinth, recently honoured with a BRIT award via his production work on Tinnie Tempah’s ‘Pass Out’, and hip hop loving DJ and singer Yasmin.

The Big Top arena on Sunday is crowned by a DJ set from mash-up kings David and Stephen Dewaele otherwise known as 2manydjs and the figureheads of Soulwax, a duo who have shaped the sound of electronic and cross-over music throughout the noughties. Also taking to the Big Top decks will be Erol Alkan, the force behind the much loved Trash club night Alkan’s career has exploded since the Trash days seeing his electro sets play out internationally alongside dance music’s biggest names. Next up straddling the decks, as well as a menagerie of other DJ trickery, James Zabiela will spin a set of breaks and tech house preceded by tech house DJ and rising fixture on the dance music scene; Riva Starr. Jack Beats, one part Beni G (Mixologists) and one part Plus One (Scratch Perverts), are a duo at the forefront of the wobble centric British House new wave. They complete Sunday’s Big Top along with italio duo Retro/Grade and DJ Greg Lord.

A key figure in the experimental hip hop sounds of the nineties, DJ Shadow’s live set headlines Sunday’s Thrasher arena in association with DataTransmission. Next up will be Warp Record’s young face of turntablism Hudson Mohawke and Bristolian grime merchant Joker. RinseFM’s Roska and grime/garage expert Emalkay also step up to the Thrasher stage. Bass heavy sounds come courtesy of L-vis1990 whilst ex-UK Garage MC Roska arrives at The Parklife Weekender with his afro-beat inspired record box. Also joining line up will be a collaboration between dubstep’s SBTRKT and Sampha as well as Ikonika & Optimum. Machester’s own ‘out there’ producer Illum:Sphere and Hoya:Hoya co-promoter Jonny Dub take to the decks to complete the Thrasher arena.

Also back for seconds on Sunday is the Now Wave arena presenting a headline set from indie’s cheeriest outfit, Mystery Jets. Angular electropop four piece Metronomy, indie art rock NYC residents Darwin Deez, and spacey organic club producers D/R/U/G/S make up more of the exciting offerings. Playing their synth lead indie on home turf will be Egyptian Hip Hop whilst Star Slinger blends fragile electronic sounds over vintage RnB samples. Imaginatively names boy/girl duo Keep Shelly in Athens, Warehouse Project resident DJ, Will Tramp completes the Now Wave arena to make up a hugely exciting bill of genre boundary blurring offerings.

neroReturning for second helping and teaming up with DJ E.A.S.E’s label (Nightmares on Wax), Metropolis x Ape arena offers up rising dubstep trio Nero, LA’s fidget house DJ Skrillex as well as Brazilian drum ‘n’ bass innovator DJ Marky. Similarly highly regarded in drum ‘n’ bass circles DJ Hype joins the bill as will hotly tipped DnB duo Loadstar will play alongside DnB figurehead Friction and take to the decks. The arena’s line up is rounded off by resident DJs Citizen and Mak.

They’ve hosted some of the most popular stages at Glastonbury and Lovebox so Horse Meat Disco are a welcome addition to The Parklife Weekender 2011. Tensnake, a DJ currently enjoying mainstream success with his take on 80s Italo disco boogie headlines the arena with a live set. Birmingham based Mark E brings his distinctive take on house to the table and Cutloose DJs leave The Roadhouse home armed with their well respected party throwing credentials. Naturally the HMD boys also take to the deck as will Warehouse Project resident DJ, Krysko.

Manchester’s weekly hip hop bash set up a temporary home in Platt Fields on Sunday in the Juicy & Friends arena. Headlined by pioneer and indeed legend Grandmaster Flash the Juicy arena also plays host to the energetic collective Riot Jazz and Manchester’s own alternative hip-hop crew Broke n English. Juicy DJs preside over the arena which features Jonny Dub’s second set of the weekend alongside sets from fellow promoters Taste the Diff’rence and Hot Milk.

Sunday will also feature Audio Farm, Content, Drop The Mustard, Dub Smugglers, Eat My Beat, Heavy Rain, Low Down and Dirty, Miami, Micron Pogo, Take The Whole Cake, Total Garage and many more.

This includes the incredible Loco Dice who over the past few years has seen his stature rise to become one of the most devastating and respected DJs on the planet. Adding a live element to proceedings we’re delighted to welcome Tiefschwarz. Whether it’s in the studio or in the club, this duo constantly turn heads with timeless productions, remixes and live performances. Also playing live is Guy Gerber. The Israeli tech-house star is no stranger to the world’s biggest events, so the green grass of Clapham Common will suit him down to the ground. The legendary Josh Wink returns to the Common this summer after his sensational performance at last year’s SW4. He is joined by Cocoon’s very own Tobi Neumann and the UK’s hottest rising underground house star Tim Green. We can’t wait.
 
above and beyondGlobal trance sensations Above & Beyond are set to take their Group Therapy album showcase across Europe this summer with festival appearances across the continent. But none get the juices flowing more than their arena at SW4 2011. The trio will be joined by fellow trance giant Ferry Corsten. A mainstay in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll over the past ten years, Ferry is a true international DJ having worked with and played with, the biggest talent on the planet. He’ll be joined by Radio 1’s Judge Jules who is no stranger to SW4 having played on numerous occasions. Arguably London’s finest underground house night, we are delighted to welcome Shake It! back to SW4 for the first time since 2009. Shake It! residents Layo & Bushwacka! will be joined by our favourite Frenchman Mr Laurent Garnier who headlines proceedings, bringing with him his mindblowing LBS showcase alongside Benjamin Rippert and Stephane ‘Scan X’ Dri. Garnier himself explains that while L.B.S. officially stands for Live Booth Sessions, a more fitting name would be Loud Bass and Samples and this exclusive performance is sure to be as thrilling as it is ground breaking. Tiga returns to Clapham Common this summer having previously performed at Get Loaded in the Park. On SW4 duty this time round, we’re delighted to add the Canadian’s electronic sounds to a hugely impressive Shake It! showcase. German duo M.A.N.D.Y. return to South West Four having played alongside Carl Cox at last year’s event. One of the stand out performers last summer, expect the ‘Body Language’ pioneers to be back with a bang. Completing the line-up we’re delighted to welcome Spencer Parker. One of Europe’s leading house DJs, his unique style is in major demand so we’re delighted to have secured his services this summer.

Sunday’s main stage line-up focuses on the more alternative side of the dance music spectrum. The musical juggernaut that is Pendulum will close this year’s South West Four with their only London show of the year. Having fused ideas from a plethora of musical genres, we’re delighted to welcome them to the Common for a full live performance that will certainly get the rave juices flowing. In yet another London festival exclusive, Magnetic Man will act as main support. One of the most talked about electronic acts of the past two years, all eyes are on dubstep’s most loved trio. The first lady of BBC Radio 1, Annie Mac, has this year continued to take her ‘Annie Mac presents’ tour across the world with monstrous parties that have turned many a head. Add to that her hugely successful weekly radio show and you’re looking at one of the most talked about DJs of our time. As the leader of the Digital Soundboy System, Shy FX leads a tight-knit team of like-minded Soundboy soldiers. This includes the prestigious Breakage, one of the world’s premier female DJs B.Traits with MC Donaeo, DJ Marky’s MC of choice Stamina and one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic vocal talents, Youngman. Adding more live music to the Sunday Main Stage lineup, London’s grime sensation Wretch 32 has recently shot to fame after the release of his debut smash hit ‘Traktor’. Having toured the UK extensively this year to rave reviews, we’re delighted to add him to the SW4 line-up. It’s not often you see a life sized dinosaur play electro but this is what can be expected from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Beginning her music career as a DJ in London just two years ago, Yasmin has already founded her own successful club night, spun around the world for N.E.R.D., Taio Cruz and Eve and played storming sets at Glastonbury and Ibiza Rocks. Established as a world-class spinner, Yasmin is now ready to make her mark as a fully-fledged artist, singer and songwriter in her own right. Her next stop? SW4.
 
richie hawtinTogether returns to Clapham Common this August after its unforgettable arena at last year’s South West Four. Heading proceeding is a man that needs no introduction, M_Nus label boss Richie Hawtin. One of the leading pioneers of the techno scene across the world over the past twenty years, it’s no wonder that this man is recognised as one of the greatest electronic artists of all time. Modeselektor bring their widely diverse sound to the Together arena, as they wow the SW4 crowd with a number of genres all compressed into a style that is all of their own. Another leading name in the electronic world, SW4 welcomes Gaiser, one of the most revered artists in Richie Hawtin’s Minus collective. Sub Focus will bring his everything goes mantra to SW4 along with his usual blend of air-punching, dancefloor dismantling drum & bass. Andy C, another stand out performer at last year’s SW4, plays under the Together banner once again and the Ram Records boss will be joined by dubstep star Joker and the brain child of Drums of Death and Mumdance, Mums of Death.
 
We Love is the greatest Sunday clubbing experience on the planet. Flying the flag for the Ibiza institution is none other Sasha. One of the undisputed kings of dance music, Sasha returns to SW4 having smashed last year’s Main Stage to pieces. Sasha will be joined by Viva Record boss Steve Lawler. The king of Ibiza’s legendary Space terrace, Steve has been on We Love line-ups for as long as we can remember. A We Love party wouldn’t be complete without their residents Simian Mobile Disco and Joris Voorn. Simian make their long awaited SW4 debut this year, whilst Joris returns to the Common having played a storming set in John Digweed’s Bedrock arena in 2010. Completing the line-up we welcome Berlin’s Bpitch Control label boss Ellen Allien for her SW4 debut, alongside the newly solo, tech-house vibes of Technasia and British sensation Mat Playford.
 

cirex dOne of the most respected and seminal record labels in the industry, it is a great honour that Adam Beyer has chosen South West Four to host the next instalment of Drumcode in the capital. The uber techno lord will be joined by VERY special guest and fellow Swede Eric Prydz, playing under his Cirez D guise for the very first time. Legendary UK techno duo Slam have travelled far and wide in the past but debut at SW4 this summer with a live performance that is sure to get the pulses racing. The techno showcase continues with the brilliant Paul Ritch. His DJ sets and production have seen his popularity rise the world over, much like Ben Sims who also plays. The ‘3 deck master’ is one of the UK’s biggest techno exports and we’re delighted to have him flying the flag. Drumcode’s very own Alan Fitzpatrick also joins the line-up with a much anticipated live performance, whilst Ida Engberg completes the bill bringing her relentless passion to South West London.

laidback lukeIn addition to a London festival exclusive live performance from the undisputed kings of electronic music Underworld, SW4 welcomes a huge lineup of world class DJs to Saturday’s main stage lineup. Having graced the green grass of Clapham Common on six consecutive occasions, with hisBedrock arena one of the highlights of last year, John Digweed is back. Following his sell out Brixton Academy show back in October and an intimate Bedrock event at London’s Arcadia over Easter, expect John to end the summer in style. Laidback Luke made his very successful debut at last year’s South West Four with a performance that had the Common rocking under the August sun. Continuing to produce some of the biggest tracks to hit our airwaves, not to mention selling out clubs and events the world over, we’re delight to welcome Luke back to SW4. 2011 represents 20 years of Pete Tong hosting his BBC Radio 1 show. He has a massive summer ahead with many huge performances celebrating this milestone and a much anticipated return to Pacha Ibiza for an all new residency. Having rocked the main stage in 2010 we’re delighted to welcome Pete back to his home town for another memorable appearance.
 
James Zabiela’s last SW4 performance came back in 2009. After having two years away from the Common it was time to welcome the technical whiz kid back. A hugely popular figure and a a stellar addition to any line-up, we’re very excited about what to expect. One of the world’s great DJs Argentina’sHernan Cattaneo debuts at SW4 in 2011. Revered as the blueprint for a 21st century club night – secret but fun, exciting but underground, Union has gained a ferociously loyal following in a very short time. With an insane and hedonistic crowd and awe inspiring production, Union is an example of what can be achieved when you tear up the rulebook! 2011 marks the fifth anniversary of Union’s residency at the legendary Fabric in London and their hosting of the main stage on Sunday 28th August at SW4 is one of a series of non-secret events to celebrate.
 
Alongside the musical juggernaut that is Pendulum and dubstep’s most loved trio Magnetic Man, Sunday’s main stage line-up focuses on the more alternative side of the dance music spectrum. The first lady of BBC Radio 1, Annie Mac, has this year continued to take her‘Annie Mac presents’ tour across the world with monstrous parties that have turned many a head. Add to that her hugely successful weekly radio show and you’re looking at one of the most talked about DJs of our time. As the leader of the Digital Soundboy SystemShy FXleads a tight-knit team of like-minded Soundboy soldiers. This includes the prestigious Breakage, one of the world’s premier female DJs B.Traits with MC Donaeo, DJ Marky’s MC of choice Stamina and one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic vocal talents, Youngman.Adding more live music to the Sunday Main Stage lineup, London’s grime sensation Wretch 32 has recently shot to fame after the release of his debut smash hit ‘Traktor’. Having toured the UK extensively this year to rave reviews, we’re delighted to add him to the SW4 line-up. It’s not often you see a life sized dinosaur play electro but this is what can be expected fromTotally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Beginning her music career as a DJ in London just two years ago, Yasmin has already founded her own successful club night, spun around the world for N.E.R.D., Taio Cruz and Eve and played storming sets at Glastonbury and Ibiza Rocks. Established as a world-class spinner, Yasmin is now ready to make her mark as a fully-fledged artist, singer and songwriter in her own right. Her next stop? SW4.

Example, Annie Mac and more join We The People lineup

In support of band-of-the-moment, Chase and Status and poet laureate of geezer rap Mike Skinner, playing his final shows as The Streets is Example who in keeping with his breakthrough album definitely ‘Won’t Go Quietly’. Multi talented DJ and singer, Yasmin will display her R n’ B and hip-hop, party cuts as she performs live and Radio 1’s queen of dance music Annie Mac will drop clubland’s freshest beats.  Local Bristol boy Redlight will navigate the unnamed airspace between house, breakbeat and dubstep while Dot Rotten is a purveyor of emotionally driven beats and insightful lyrics.
 
The most potent voice in British hip-hop Roots Manuva takes to the stage whilst Giggs, king of the mixtape and purveyor of rugged home truths tells it how it is.  Master of sound and ruler of beats, Beardyman is a perennial festival favourite
 
We The People can hardly contain their excitement at securing east coast hip hop don and enigmatic recluse, Doom for a rare UK performance while L.A’s Gaslamp Killer showcases his unique take on dub-step and hip hop with some remarkable turntablism.  Hip hop legends the Ultramagnetic MC’s will perform some stone cold classics to a rapturous crowd.  Dubstep Dandy High Rankin never fails to cause a riot on the dance floor while Modestep take the genre into new territory and are one of the hottest new acts on the live music scene.  Engine Earz prove why they have been described as Massive Attack for the dubstep generation.
 
Local promoters and club nights are firmly represented and those bringing the sounds of the South West and beyond include Bed,BlastSub Loaded and Blowpop.
