More acts announced for Exit Festival 2011

grinderman exit festival 2011Grinderman  will be electrifying the fortress with their growling formidable rock beast of a band! Formed by the suave Nick Cave and featuring the members of The Bad Seeds but ‘badder’, we expect no less than a rampage of strutting and swaggering “mixing horror and black humour with barely tamed musical malevolence” (The Guardian, September 2010).

Through the cobbled streets and into to the Dance Arena, Fedde Le Grand will put his hands up for his first ever performance at Exit Festival. DJ and producer extraordinaire, the Dutch deckmanship is set to set alight the moat with his variety of underground, credible and chart topping tracks with a few classics thrown in for good measure. Another young Dutchman will be performing on the Dance Arena this year in the form of Joris Voorn. Having sealed his place as techno glitterati many moons ago, his production is in every top djs’ record box and he will be bringing his fresh techno,

joachim garraud

breaks and house sound to the arena. Whilst the Grammy award nominee Frenchman Joachim Garraud will be performing his Invasion show, and

if you’ve seen clips already on youtube you will see how much fun it is. Joachim has produced for the finest DJs such as David Guetta, Deep Dish, Moby and even Kylie so you can be sure his show will be nothing short of spectacular. They will be joining already announced Tiga, James Zabiela, and Gramophonedzie. We certainly can’t wait!

EXIT 2011 plays host to a variety of 400 performances on 20 stages connected by cobbled streets, ramparts and tunnels – a walk through the mystical fortress is like a trip through a magical wonderland. Music ranges from rock, dance, indie, Latino, reggae, electronica, chill out and regional music, so there is no better festival in the world that brings you so much value and so much variety! EXIT is still the coolest, most adventurous and best value for money festival experience in Europe for the discerning festival goer. Offering more entertainment, easier and cheaper travel options, stunning weather and an atmosphere unlike any other festival, ensure it’s on your list of things to do 2011!

2011 will also see pre and post EXIT events happening in the city of Novi Sad and Belgrade, so festival go-ers can spend longer in Serbia experiencing the warmth of the Serbian people whilst having fun and seeing new sights and cities. It’s an adventure and festival in one! No mud and lots of wonderful experiences, it’s a golden ticket for summer 2011.

New additions to the SOS 4.8 Festival 2011

Editors, who will be releasing their new album ‘Unedited’ at the end of this month, will perform their new material at the festival. These New Puritans will take their show ‘Hidden Live’ to the festival’s Auditorium, an intimate indoors space for special projects; the band will be joined by a 15 piece orchestra and chorus.

Having already confirmed Suede, White Lies, Everything Everything, !!!, Two Door Cinema Club and We have Band, this year’s SOS 4.8 festival offers one of the strongest line-ups across the European festival circuit. In addition to music, the festival also offers a space for Contemporary Art Exhibitions, Conferences and Workshops.

Under the names ‘Art’ and ‘Voices’, this year the sections will look at Dance Culture. Contemporary artists will explore the relationship between music, sex, drugs, night life, money, beauty and youth through their work. In a conference, Jeremy Gilbert and Ewan Pearson, authors of ‘Dance, Music, Culture and the Politics of Sound’, will analyse the basic elements of Dance Culture, its derivations and current state.

More exciting bands, events and activities will be announced soon!

SOS 4.8 is an urban festival that takes place in city of Murcia, South East Spain. Previous editions sold out and have included acts such as Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip, The Horrors, PJ Harvey, The Prodigy, Peaches and 2ManyDJs.

The festival takes the name from its commitment to sustainability. The 2010 edition was awarded with a ‘Green and Clean Award’ from ‘A Greener Festival’, an independent body that assesses the green credentials of major music events.

The 30,000 capacity two day festival offers two day tickets and accommodation packages through their website. To book visit: http://www.sos48.com

After the success of singles including ‘Skinny Genes’ and ‘Rollerblades’, Eliza Doolittle is yet another starlet to grace the Big Top on Friday 10th June.

Imelda May has not only caught peoples attention musically, her striking style is unmistakably cool and quirky, a perfect match for one of the most fashionable Festivals going. Joining her will be Diana Vickers, who has shot to fame as a star of song, screen and stage. Her unique voice shone through on her bold yet fragile single ‘Once’, and is another great addition to the Festival.

One of the most hotly tipped names for 2011 is girl group Parade, bringing much needed excitement and glamour to the Big Top and are definitely ones to watch! I am Kloot announced for Deer Shed Festival

A music, arts and kids summer festival set just a few miles from the A1(M), Deer Shed Festival debuted in July 2010 and returns this summer to build on the huge success. Having quickly sold out all 2000 tickets and receiving a nomination for the Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards last year, the organisers have set the bar very high for 2011 including increasing the capacity to 5000 and developing their format of differently focussed days to include a Friday night programme. Instead of a weekend of wall-to-wall music, the festival offers three varied days to keep attendees of all ages happy.

The Deer Shed Festival gates will open on Friday 22nd July for an evening of cabaret including circus and comedy performances in a big top tent. Taking place on the first weekend of the school summer holidays, families can make a weekend of it and settle into the picturesque surroundings of Baldersby Park before Saturday’s programme of music across three stages. Culminating in what will no doubt be an exquisite performance by the wonderful I Am Kloot headlining the Main Stage, festival organisers will be announcing further acts for the day of music shortly. Sunday is the Deer Shed Festival ‘long goodbye’ – chilled music, coffee, newspapers, organised kids sports, nature trails and a Sunday morning market. A perfect end to a perfect weekend.

Run by organisers and husband-and-wife team Oliver and Kate Jones, the Deer Shed Festival was originally born out of the frustration that no good value-for-money family music festivals existed in the North of England with compelling line-ups. Oliver explains:

“The festival team are massive fans of contemporary music and arts in general and we all have kids. Over the years we’ve got increasingly fed up with paying a small fortune to get our families into various festivals only to be disappointed in the music or in the entertainment, facilities or vibe for the children. The Deer Shed Festival is our long considered response to this. It won’t cost you an arm and a leg to come and kids are not second class citizens. Saying this, we will not compromise on what’s on just because we are ‘family-focussed’. If you don’t have kids, you will still find a lovely chilled atmosphere in which to enjoy a weekend of high quality entertainment.”

With over 96% of the surveyed 2010 audience saying that they would consider returning to the event in 2011, the Deer Shed Festival promises to yet again be great value for money with all the kids activities and workshops free of charge and children under five going free*. Tickets are available now through www.deershedfestival.com/tickets, prices as follows:

Adult (16+) weekend ticket (Fri-Sun) £59
Adult (16+) Saturday & Sunday only ticket £45
Child (6+) weekend ticket £15
Weekend campervan & caravan pass £15

* Please note children under five will require a FOC ticket obtained through the ticket sales outlet.

Weezer, Airbourne & Architects set for Sonisphere 2011

Flying in from Los Angeles, California, Alt-Rock Superstars WEEZER make their KNEBWORTH debut at SONISPHERE this summer. WEEZER are one of the biggest, most popular bands to emerge from the alternative rock scene of the 90s, with more Gold, Platinum and Silver (records) under their belts than Fort Knox, a string of notable awards nominations – including the prestigious Grammy – and an impressive list of chart positions. All this will come as no surprise to anyone who has had the pleasure of hearing frighteningly infectious power-pop classics like “Buddy Holly”, “Hash Pipe”, “Undone – The Sweater Song”, “Beverly Hills” and “Pork and Beans”, and it is with great excitement that we look forward to hearing these at WEEZER’s only English festival appearance of 2011.

Next up, coming in from Warrnambool, Australia, AIRBOURNE return to KNEBWORTH to deliver a raucous set of potent rock and roll fury. “We love playing the Sonisphere festivals!” States Frontman Joel O’Keeffe. “It’s always a great line up of bands and it’s always a great crowd!

He should know; in 2009, AIRBOURNE tore SONISPHERE a proverbial “new one”, running wild and free across the SATURN stage, even scaling it at one point so Joel could hammer out a lead on the scaffolding. One can only wonder what AIRBOURNE’s only UK festival performance of 2011 holds in store as they belt out fist-pumping anthems such as “Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast”, “Diamond In The Rough” and “No Way But The Hard Way”.

Making the somewhat shorter journey from Brighton, homegrown heroes ARCHITECTS make their first festival appearance in this country in support of new album “The Here And Now”, which was released one week ago today. Never has an album been more aptly titled, with the band currently on the cover of Metal Hammer magazine while their latest single enjoys daytime play on national radio, and the album receives rave reviews across the rock media, earning it a top 75 chart position (57) in its first week. Frontman Sam Carter enthuses:

“UK festivals are always a massive deal for us because it’s basically the biggest gathering of Architects fans we can play to, and this year you know it’s going to be special because the line up for Sonisphere is INSANE. It’s also a big deal because it’ll be our first UK festival since our new record ‘The Here And Now’ came out and that record was built for festivals! We’ll see everyone at Sonisphere 2011!!!”

Last, but by no means least, heavy metal pioneers DIAMOND HEAD come to KNEBWORTH for the biggest and most exciting show of their thirty-five year career. Hugely influential, to the point that it’s doubtful there would be a BIG 4 without them, DIAMOND HEAD’s appearance will be a special one. When METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX made metal history at SONISPHERE BULGARIA last year summer, they chose DIAMOND HEAD’s “Am I Evil” to jam with all seventeen members, a testament to what a unifying force their music is. Founding member and guitarist Brian Tatler says of the upcoming appearance:

“Diamond Head have been given the fantastic opportunity of opening for the BIG 4 at this years Sonisphere festival, Knebworth Friday 8th July. This will be Diamond Head’s biggest ever show and myself and the other band members are very excited and looking forward to what will be an historic event. Knebworth is one of those venues you only dream of playing. I saw Led Zeppelin there in 1979 and never imagined that one day I would be on that stage, it proves the saying ‘anything is possible’! It also means I get to see my friends in Metallica and Megadeth once again which is always fun; I owe both Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine a beer.”

SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH takes place 8th – 10th July 2011 at KNEBWORTH HOUSE. For tickets and more info go to www.sonispherefestivals.com

Napalm Death and Nevermore announced for Bloodstock 2011

First up, grindcore innovators and legends NAPALM DEATH return to BLOODSTOCK for their only outdoor appearance in the UK this year. A band that need no introduction, NAPALM DEATH are as close to a British Institution the extreme metal scene is ever likely to have, with the brutal Brummies one of the few household names the scene has spawned. Bursting out of the midlands in the 80s, NAPALM DEATH forced people to take note with their angry, politically charged grind making them a name synonymous with the extremities of metal, and nearly thirty years later they show no sign of slowing down, lowering the volume or resting content. Bassplayer Shane Embury comments.

We are really looking forward to playing Bloodstock this year as it always a fun day especially seeing as our friends At the Gates are playing who we toured with many years ago. It’s going to be our only UK show of 2011 as well and we will play a song or 2 from our new album so it’s gonna be a seriously heavy day!

Joining them will be Seattle metallers NEVERMORE. Formed from the ashes of Santuary in the early 90s by vocalist Warrel Dane and guitarist Jeff Loomis, NEVERMORE were a rarity in the early 90s Seattle scene. Turning their backs on the grunge music that had put their hometown on the musical map, NEVERMORE stayed true to their metal roots, signing with Century Media who released their debut self-titled EP and the following debut album “The Politics Of Ecstasy”. A perfect balance of aggression and progression, melody and heaviness, NEVERMORE soon became a leading name in true metal, with subsequent albums only reinforcing their position. Guitarist Jeff Loomis enthuses on the band’s return to the England:

We’re absolutely stoked to return to the UK again to play the mighty Bloodstock Festival! We had such a good time in the UK on our tour and even filmed the “Emptiness Unobstructed” clip during our show in London so we know we got some die hard fans over there. We look forward to see you all again!

Returning to Catton Hall after a four year absence, BLOODSTOCK is in for a treat as one of metal’s finest deliver huge metal anthems such as “Next In Line”, “Enemies Of Reality”, “The Heart Collector” and “Final Product”.

With a host of exclusive performances already confirmed – including headliners IMMORTAL, plus MORBID ANGEL, THERION, AT THE GATES and many more, across three stages of music, plus comedy, fairground rides and a real ale bar, BOA 2011 is an essential date in the metal calendar. Tickets are on sale now at www.bloodstock.uk.com

Revisiting the rougher end of Brit Pop are Brother whose self titled ‘Grit Pop’ has seen them compared to Oasis and their anthemic indie rock proves guitar bands will still have a big say in the charts this year.

Pulp set to play Germany’s Melt Festival

After Pulp had announced their reunion, fans on and off the British isles were ecstatic. So were we since the boys and girls from Sheffield are about to play their only gig in Germany at this year’s Melt! as part of just a few festival performances worldwide. Entertainment galore awaits us: Pulp will play their greatest hits only.

Last year, hit machine Robyn’s been busy as well producing one album after the other. The Swedish pop icon pulled an album trilogy out of the hat as if it were the easiest thing in the world. With all her new songs in tow, Robyn will conquer Ferropolis in no time.

Where there’s Melt!, there’s definitely the Kalkbrenners. Since he started djing, Paul Kalkbrenner has been part of the Big Wheel Stage line-up. At last year’s Melt! Picknick, he even performed together with his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner. At Melt!’s 14th edition, both happily continue their liaison with Melt! Mike Skinner and Melt! also have a mutual history which will be continued when The Streets arrive at Ferropolis this summer. Speaking of traditions, Markus Kavka’s opening slot at Big Wheel Stage is definitely part of this year’s festival madness again as well as Ellen Allien crossing the finish line at Sleepless Floor on Monday morning.

Regarding the festival’s stages: Melt!Selektor Stage at Desperados Beach will be part of the festival line-up again. Like last year, the stage will be curated by Modeselektor. Also the Big Wheel Stage will see performances by a variety of DJs on Sunday as well.

Pulp

Melt! Festival’s eagerly awaiting the reunion of the year! Pulp are back and ready to rock. Since Jarvis Cocker and his band mates split in 2002, many fans have been waiting for this moment. After many discussions, vague promises, vigorous denial from the band, we can finally stop worrying. The boys and girls from Sheffield are about to conquer Melt! Festival’s main stage in their original line-up: Nick Banks, Jarvis Cocker, Candida Dayle, Steve Mackey, Russell Senior and Mark Webber. From “Common People” to “This Is Harcore”, the band will perform a best of set that will definitely make your summer. Pulp is only playing a few festivals this summer. This exclusive German show is a one-off deal that you don’t want to miss this year.

Robyn

2010 was all about Robyn. The Swedish dance pop diva not only released one but three mini albums, Body Talk I-III. She pulled dance floor fillers like “Dancing on My Own” or “Hang With Me” out of her hat in between gigs and press conferences to successfully hold her ground in the music biz. After the peroxide blonde bundle of energy toured the globe last year, Robyn’s going to present the complete Body Talk works to the Melt! crowd. Enjoy!

Paul Kalkbrenner

Pauly and Melt! Festival – mates for life. At the beginning of his career, Berlin Calling and packed arenas were still far away, the DJ already rocked Big Wheel Stage in Ferropolis. In 2009, he was part of the Bpitch Special. In 2010, Kalkbrenner curated Melt! Picknick, put together a formidable line-up at Melt! beach and entertained more than 5,000 fans. This year, he’s going to top it all: in 2011, Paul Kalkbrenner will play main stage for the first time to bring you “Sky and Sand.”
