Sziget Festival announces more acts

The CEE focus has 3 main attractions on this year’s Sziget: the well known Roma Tent, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and new venues like the Europe Stage and the Central Eastern European Travelling Funfair.

Lineup
Pop-Rock Main Stage

la rouxAlready announced names for the Pop-Rock Main Stage include Pulp, Kasabian, The Chemical Brothers, Amy Winehouse, Dizzee Rascal, Interpol, Rise Against, Good Charlotte, Smash Mouth, Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly, Maccabees and so much more. The newest list of confirmations is also a strong selection. It will surely please fans of quality guitar music, as they get to see Great Britain’s trendiest indie band White Lies. Other new additions to the line-up include La Roux – nominated for nearly all prestigious awards – and Manic Street Preachers presenting their 2010 album – Postcards From A Young Man –  and hopefully giving us a taste of their new LP, scheduled for this November. Few people would think that members of a hardcore punk band also have modest and sensitive sides, but that’s exactly the case with Mariachi El Bronx, formed from the members of the uncompromising Californian punk band The Bronx. New-Zealand’s exciting musical export item, Batucada Sound Machine will be here as well, while fans can also meet up with one of the most important aspirants of the future soul-generation, Ben l’Onlce Soul.

World Music Main Stage

Some of the names already announced for the World Music Main Stage are AfroCubism, Gotan Project, Goran Bregovic Wedding And Funeral Band, Ojos de Brujo and Rotfront. Besides them, Oi Va Voi is also happy to return to Sziget, while psychedelic rock-country-blues band Cowboy Junkies will play in Hungary for the first time. The line-up will include Sly & Robbie feat. Jr. Reid and Slovenian Magnifico and Shtetl Superstars – only gaining popularity this year, but strong contenders to become one of the big shots of the decade. LaBrassBanda appeared three years ago in Munich and the leather-pants combo immediately made the Bavarian beer festival atmosphere their trademark. Ska Cubano is already considered to be a frequent player of prestigious world music festivals, so it is almost needless to say that they must visit Sziget, too. And we shouldn’t forget about world class Hungarian acts: Csík Zenekar, Lajkó Félix and Muzsikás will once again present their unique shows in front of a passionate world music fanbase.

Rock-Metal Main Stage

lost prophetsA great new open-air venue is ready to welcome fans of harder genres. Rock-Metal Main Stage will be, among many others, a home to legends like Judas Priest and Motörhead, but also Within Temptation, Deftones, Lostprophets and Sonata Arctica will make those heads bang in the moshpit. More to come soon.

A38-Wan2 Stage

It has already been announced that Christal Castle, Peter Bjorn and John, Marina and the Diamonds and Hurts will play at A38-Wan2 Stage. Among the new names a strong British presence is evident: Bomb The Bass, Kode9, Digital Mystikz and Gaslamp Killer will give their best for Sziget fans. Suicidal Tendencies and Xiu Xiu will be representatives of the United States and there are also three Dutch artists in the line-up: De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, DeWolff and Kees van Hondt. Besides them A38-Wan2 Stage will be happy to host Mitch & Mitch (PL), Selah Sue (B), Terry Poison (ISR) and Buraka Som Systema Live (P), too.

Party Arena

above & beyondSome of the names performing at Party Arena have already been announced: The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77 and Kid Cudi will definitely come to do a set. New additions include Trentemoller and Zombie Nation and finally there are also news on the late evening acts. 2manydjs led by the Dawaele brothers is planning to give all fans a spectacular and crazy night at Party Arena. The coolest trance-collective of Great Britain, Above & Beyond will not only focus on their classic tracks, but will also make you dance like crazy with their new album Group Therapy, to be released in June. The most popular and versatile techno-musician of Spain, Cristian Varela will be here and the oustanding dj, producer and remixer Dubfire will also arrive to this year’s Sziget in the company of Carlo Lio. Another guest of the Party Arena will be Richie Hawtin, one of the most outstanding features of the minimal techno scene, living in Berlin for a long time. And Technasia will play again for party faces open for a special and exotic techno experience.

Europe Stage

Europe Stage is fresh and open-air, a venue where bands from several European countries present their skills. These bands are all extremely popular in their home countries, but still waiting for an international breakthrough. Now they have the chance to prove in front of an enthusiastic Sziget crowd. The already confirmed Europe Stage line-up includes Go Back To The Zoo from Holland, Triggerfinger and Wallace Vanborn from Belgium, Verdena from Italy, Söhne Mannheims from Germany, Ismo Alanko & Teho from Finland, For a Minor Reflection from Iceland, Elvis Jackson from Slovenia, Puding Pani Elvisovej from Slovakia, Skyline from the Czech Republic, Gravity Co. from Bulgaria, Francis International Airport from Austria, and The Mono Jacks from Romania.

DRUMCODE feat. ADAM BEYER,
SLAM, PAUL RICH (LIVE) & JOSEPH CAPRIATI

Saturday night is all about techno and we’ve handed the keys over to Drumcode Records to bring us a monster line up featuring label boss Adam Beyer, Scottish techno legends SLAM, Paul Rich live and Joseph Capriati. Adam has had prolific releases on labels such as Plus-8, NovaMute and Cocoon before establishing his own imprints. Headlining festivals and clubs across the globe, Adam embodies all that is exciting about techno. SLAM define UK techno – from their infamous Friday night residency at The Sub Club in Glasgow – to delivering hits such as Positive Education, Eterna and Lifetimes. They set up the Soma imprint in 1991 which still runs as one of the most seminal labels in its electronic music. French techno artist Paul Rich delivers a live showcase of his music whilst Jospeh Capriati from Italy rounds things off nicely.

GLOBAL COMMUNICATION (DJ SET)

Global Communication AKA Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard can be cited as one of the UK’s most prolific production duos. With more production aliases than any other electronic artist (…probably) the South-West based duo form GC in 1991 after Tom’s work with Aphex Twin and Mark enjoyed chart success with a dodgy rave-rework of kids TV show ‘Rhubarb & Custard’ Their debut album 76:14 is one of the most acclaimed ambient albums from the early 90’s. Having taken a break briefly in 1997 to focus on a plethora of other projects the duo have reformed and back to deliver what looks set to be one of the highlights of the weekend, starting off with ambient soundscapes building up to dancefloor beats, closing the Glade Stage on Sunday evening.

ANDREW WEATHERALL

Andrew Weatherall co-founded UK-underground fanzine Boys Own in the late 80’s which documented the Acid House boom. His productionwork included the remix Hallelujah by Happy Mondays and World In Motion by New Order. After leaving Boys Own he formed The Sabres Of Paradise, Two Lone Swordsmen and Rotters Golf Club. He has gone on to produce Beth Orton, Primal Scream and remix Bjork, The Orb, FSOL, Manic Street Preachers and many more.

PHOTEK (LIVE)

UK drum n bass pioneer Photek is set to perform live at this summers Glade and anyone who’s experessed even a vague interest in the scene since the mid 90’s will know we’re in for a real treat. Rupert ‘Photek’ Parkes has been instrumental in shaping the mid 90’s experimental d’n’b sound with seminal releases including ‘The Water Margin’, ‘Into The 90’s’ and ‘Mine To Give’ (featuring Robert Owens) With new music out, Radio 1 support and a whole lot of hype surrounding his new live show, we extremely excited to have this man at our event.

AND THE REST…

Over the weekend we’re pleased to welcome performances from a whole host of talent – from festival favourites such as Dreadzone, Dub Pistols, Krafty Kuts, Hybrid and Dirty Vegas - to the superfresh, bass-heavy sounds of SkrillexEngine Earz Experiment andDirtyphonics, without a doubt three of the most exciting artists around. Add to this a very special performance from UK beatbox / vocalist Dub FX and The Flower Fairy (not to be missed) alongside Glade veteran DJs Ben & Lex and with more announcements to come, this years Glade Stage is looking pretty tasty.

ORIGIN STAGE:

The UK’s spiritual home of psychedelic trance, this amazing and colourful outdoor arena welcomes the biggest and best names in the scene. Featuring UK psy trance pioneers TristanDicksterMan With No Name and Prometheus alongside a whole host of fresh live acts and DJs from across the globe including Headroom Room and The Commercial Hippies (South Africa) Logica (Brazil)Edoardo (Italy) and Emok (Denamrk?) representing all spectrums of the psy trance scene as well as a special live performances fromAtmos and UK electro and dubstep outfit Atomic Drop

If you like your beats more left of centre then ladies and gentlemen, step right up. Headline Live acts include three very rare UK performances from Richard DevineEprom and Eskmo, three producers from the USA all of which are considered geniuses within their own field. Wrong Music main man Shitmat makes a welcome return alongside new talent in the form of Young Montana?, Loops Haunt, Baconhead and many more melting the parameters of music and sound.

INSPIRAL

We can’t do a festival without these wonderful and creative people. Their Chill Out Lounge has been a firm fixture at the Glade since we launched providing a wonderfully relaxed environment for festival-goers to sit, relax and recharge with the best in organic sustenance wrapped up in their own warm and friendly style. This year the lounge morphs into its own arena with all the usual fine trappings and provding a space to chill by day but as the evening progesses as does the music featuring grooving techno and progressive treats. Highlights include Guadi live and DJs sets from Dick Trevor, George Barker and Naked Nick.
