Kendal Calling announce family entertainment and cinema lineup

With the summer on our doorstep and festival season fast approaching, it’s nearly time for festival goers to descend on Lowther Deer Park in the beautiful Lake District for the sold out Kendal Calling 2015!

With the huge music lineup including headliners Elbow, Snoop Dogg, Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines and James, the festival is pleased to announce its family and kids programme for the year. With an ever-present focus on fun for all ages this year there is plenty to do for the whole family.

Kids Calling 2015 presents The Little Bugs Hub! The 2015 kid's theme is BUGS and Kendal is buzzing to bring festival goers the biggest and best kid's offering for Kendal Calling's 10th birthday. Kendal kids are invited to the BUG BIRTHDAY BASH and all festival long families can expect a hive of activity including games, creative performance, madcap mayhem, chill out zones and critter craft activities to decorate your little bugs and The Little Bugs Hub!

A huge array of other performance art, theatre and entertainment will be happening over the weekend. Marie Celestial is a very special commissioned performance including a mixture of aerial, circus, acrobatics, dance and theatre where you can explore curiosity with child like wonder. Walkabout pirate crew and all round loveable rogues Desperate Men will also be thrilling festival goers as will the interactive puppetry of Flying Buttresses Present: Hodman Dodmariott and Sally Forth.

Although jam-packed with entertainment, Kids Calling is a welcoming beautiful area for families with children from 0 – 10, shaded by lovely teepees and activity bell-tents for under 3's, where parents and little ones can relax and take time out from the crowds.

Kids’ TV favourite Alex Winters from CBeebies will be hosting the ever-popular kids’ version of Tim Burgess’ on site café, Tiny Tim Peaks. Full of hula hoops, temporary tattoos, giant jenga and face painting too. Other activities include a cartoon workshop with Tony Husband, incredible crafts class ‘Hey Ho, Let’s Sew’ and Andy Hunt’s DJ;ing masterclass for the teenage future DJs on site.

This year the cinema returns by popular demand with its own all day venue for any festival goers looking for a breather or just to enjoy one of their favourites in great company. Film fans of all ages can enjoy music docs, blockbusters, kids favourites and cult classics like Levellers: A Curious Life, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Happy Gilmour, Big Hero 6, The Big Lebowski, Ghostbusters, Mr Nice, Indiana Jones, Aliens, Terminator 2 and The Thing.

James and Bananarama added to Splendour Festival lineup

Continuing the strong line up on the main stage as special guests are the legendary James, perhaps best known for anthemic hits such as ‘Sit Down’, ‘She’s A Star’ and ‘Laid’. With all seven band members coming back to reform in 2007, the Manchester band released their 13th studio album La Petite Mort last year to critical acclaim and showed the unique James magic is still firmly in place with engaging powerful songs that demand to be heard live.

One of the best all female pop bands of all time, Bananarama joins the bill for Splendour headlining the Confetti Stage. The band already share history with The Specials lead singer Terry Hall who tracked the girls down to perform with Fun Boy Three, the trio he formed with two other bandmates, for the single 'It Ain't What You Do It's The Way That You Do It'. Will Splendour see the girls join Terry and co on stage?

With 32 Top 40 UK hits, they went on to support everyone from Iggy Pop to Paul Weller. For the next ten years the girls were everywhere and so were their hits, all penned by the girls themselves. As their biography says 'Bananarama were not a manufactured band but three friends who came from the London Club scene with a Punk attitude and were always in control of their own destiny.'

Singer of the moment Jess Glynne, best known for featuring on Clean Bandit's 'Rather Be', which made number one in the UK and can also be heard on the current M&S food advertising campaign, as well as debut single, 'Right Here', will be bringing her distinctive voice to the main stage.

With their latest single Roads out in May and an eagerly anticipated album due out later this year, pop rockers Lawson will have plenty of fresh material to excite the crowd alongside songs from their debut album Chapman Square and their six top 20 hit singles including Juliet and When She Was Mine. Joining them on the main stage and described as ‘the voice of urban Britain’ by The Times, MOBO award winner, vocalist and rapper Roots Manuva, best known for the hit single ‘Witness The Fitness’, will be bringing his UK hip hop style to Wollaton’s lush fields.

The full main stage line up is The Specials, James, Jess Glynne, Lawson, Roots Manuva, Amber Run and To Kill A King and the day will be opened by the winner of the Future Sound of Nottingham competition.

It is with great delight that the festival welcomes Elbow to the Lake District for a northern festival exclusive. One of the most beloved and revered British acts of recent times, Elbow will headline the main stage in the fashion which has seen them rise over six studio albums to become arena-filling voices of the nation. Their tales of love and wonder are sure to echo around the Lake District, and their headline performance will be a defining moment in a decade of Kendal Calling history.

Hip Hop phenomenon Snoop Dogg will make a headline appearance on the Sunday. Snoop has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and will bring some Californian sunshine to the Lake District. With an arsenal of hit singles and a reputation as one of the most powerful live bands in the country, Kaiser Chiefs are an explosive headline performer and are certain to see Kendal Calling out in fitting style.

Indie upstarts The Vaccines have cemented their position as the most exciting young band in British music. They burst onto the scene in 2011 quickly rising through the ranks with two hugely commercially successful albums and their new album English Graffiti is due out this year.

The return of James to Kendal Calling for the 10th anniversary celebrations sees these quixotic Mancunians close the festival on the Thursday. James have had a staggering 30 year career and their huge catalogue of sing-along anthems is sure to provide a remarkable finale to the first ever Thursday night festivities.

Other main stage highlights from the first announcement include acclaimed singer-songwriter and Mercury Award nominee Nick Muvley, psychedelic rockers, The Horrors, Brit-Award winning songstress Ella Eyre, political bard Billy Bragg, edgy folk star Lucy Rose and the folk confessionals of Emmy The Great. Kodaline will be bringing their epic stadium rock to the lakes to compliment indie stalwarts Embrace, pioneering British club act Soul II Soul, classic British rockers the Levellers and UK Afrobeat artist and TINA pioneer Fuse ODG.

The phenomenal Public Service Broadcasting will headline in the Calling Out stage. Other acts performing here include 2014’s breakout rapper and poet Kate Tempest, Bipolar Sunshine, Hyde & Beast, Black Honey and many more.

Local heroes British Sea Power make a welcome return having played the very first Kendal Calling festival 10 year ago and they will headline the beautiful Woodlands stage. It wouldn’t be Kendal Calling without an appearance from veteran tea drinker and musical maverick Mr Scruff and a full dance programme of the most pioneering electronic music is due to be announced in the much revered Glow Tent.

This is just the beginning! Many more acts will be announced including the full Glow Tent, Calling Out, Chai Wallah and Woodlands line-up’s and much, much more.

Final headliner announced for Latitude Festival 2014

The Summer Festival Guide can reveal that the final headliner announced for this years Latitude Festival will be the American rock duo The Black Keys. They join the previously announced headliners Damon Albarn and Two Door Cinema Club at this years summer festival.

Also added to the Obelisk Arena lineup are The Editors, James, Crystal Fighters and more. Joining the BBC Radio 6 Music Stage is Mogwai, Lykke Li, Clean Bandit and more.

For the Comedy Arena, Irish comedian and TV presenter Dara O'Briain will head up proceedings and is joined by a massive cast including Milton Jones, Josh Widdicombe, Al Murray's Saloon Show.

Although all tickets to this years Kendal Calling are now gone, organisers continue to work with some of the UKs best promoters to book more amazing acts & ensure that this years revelers enjoy an action packed show! The Calling Out tent has been curated by ITB (International Talent Booking) on Friday to bring some of the hottest new bands to the stage.

Lightning Seeds are a much loved Northern act and it’ll be a joy to catch hits like “Lucky You” and “Life of Riley” as they play on the main stage alongside physchedelic folk artists like The Travelling Band and headliners Maximo Park, Dizzee Rascal and James.

The Soapbox stage returns with the likes of musician and comedian Duncan Oakley, a one-man-band who delivers rip roaring sets. Along with high-spirited Ray Guns Look Real Enough, The Beta Males have been making waves on the comedy circuit. Following acclaimed shows at Edinburgh, sell out gigs at Soho Theatre and a Chortle award nomination, we can’t wait to see this collective take to the stage.

The brand new Woodland Stage has been getting the team very excited! Be ready to explore undiscovered territory for late night adventures and soothing afternoons amongst the trees. The stage will feature Nu-folk and Electro followed by a Silent Disco with mind-blowing visuals and AV installations! Kendal Calling Fancy Dress Theme announced

For the third year, Kendal Calling reveal a fancy dress theme that has been a huge success in previous years with revellers showing incredible innovation and imagination in designing and donning costumes.

Getting dressed up for a festival is all about becoming another version of you, an exaggerated, bold and colourful character. So this year we are transforming the Deer Park into another world with our theme Fairy Tales & Comic Books.

With the backdrop of the stunning Lake District, Kendal Calling expects to see everyone from the pied piper to Wolverine, Little Red Riding Hood to Catwoman, the Gingerbread to Tin Tin all partying together and this years theme will make the event even more of a surreal wonderland of fun and frolics than ever before.

The fun and frolics continues at Kendal Calling in the crazy world of the Happy Slap Boutique. This area will be like no other and is where anything goes, and is the home of electro swing and eclectic music. A haven to transform into creatures and characters, the Happy Slap face-painting boutique will get revelers ready to be immersed in magical worlds, dazzled by spectacular cabaret shows, wowed by our travelling circus and entertained in ways you never thought possible.

Happy Slap Boutique present a world of fairy tales and mischief full of secrets to explore and discover, keeping the entertainment going all weekend. Bump into Jack Sprat, a narcoleptic sleeping beauty or climb up Rapunzel's hair and witness their take on your classic fairy tales. Performers will be traveling around the festival doing walk-about performance where it’s least expected with music, song, dance and ridiculousness.

As night falls, Happy Slap Boutique transforms into a plethora of circus, fire and glow performances alongside clowning, grotesque burlesque, world famous 'Rave Aerobics' and surprise acts that keep buzzing all night. DJs Ocelus, Tom Excell, Dan The Hat, Wolfie Rassmatazz, Magic Lantern, Vinyl Rights Experience, Mikey J & very special guests will spin a genre defying mix of electro swing, jungle, balkan, breakbeat, house & electro. Without further ado, Friday night’s bill will be headed up by the mighty Maximo Park, a tour de force of talent hailing from the North and bringing their blend of quality lyricism and arresting music. Saturday night will see the return to Kendal Calling of the one-and-only Dizzee Rascal who is guaranteed to stand up tall on the main stage! Closing the show on the Sunday night will be Indie kings James, who became a British institution in the 90’s with their blend of folk pop, they’ll bring hits like “Say Something”, “Laid” and the legendary “Sit Down” which are guaranteed to make everyone get up!

Following last year’s spellbinding festival, Kendal Calling are also unveiling a new Twin Peaks style 50’s diner headed up by Tim Burgess from The Charlatans aptly titled the Tim Peaks diner!

The Tim Peaks diner was borne from twitter and on BBC6music, as Tim pours over the jukebox and coffee he will curate a weekend of DJs, bands, book readings and comedians in a unique setting. Confirmed on the bill is Nick Heyward; best known as frontman of Haircut 100 whose hits are big hitters on Tim Burgess Jukebox.

Improved Emperors Fields, new affordable luxury camping plus coach info

It won’t just be the performance areas that get refreshed this year, last years sold-out emperor’s field camping area returns once more complete with compost toilets, affordable tipis, showers and a family-friendly vibe for those wanting a quieter sleeping alternative for their brood.

NEW for 2012 we have an affordable luxury camping option in our popular Emperors Fields area without the heavy price tag (it's one of the best value 'luxury camping' options on the festival circuit). You and your friends or family could camp in style in our stunning bell tents and tipis available for hire at The Deer Lodge. These beautifully decorated tipis or yurts will provide your home from home. There are bedding options available and they sleep up to 4 per accommodation type. The Deer Lodge is not dear at all providing stylish accommodation and service that is at least double the price at similar size festivals!

James announced as first headliner for Wychwood Festival 2012

Having moved back a weekend to accommodate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Wychwood will next year take place from Friday 8^th June to Sunday 10^th June and will once again be set to the famous backdrop of the rolling Prestbury Hills. To celebrate the Manchester band’s appearance at Wychwood, festival organisers will be asking fans and friends of Wychwood to send in pictures of themselves ‘sitting’ in unusual places for the chance to win weekend camping tickets for them and their family. Also confirmed for this year’s festival line-up is a dazzling array of artist from a diverse mix of genres. Cornish shanty singers Port Isaac’s Fishermen’s Friends will join the likes of Johnny Kalsi and the mighty Dhol Foundation, Sean Lakeman, the brother of previous Wychwood headliner Seth, and Kathryn Roberts and The Roving Crows, a local band who brought the house down last year and are back by popular demand. Katy will be joined by the stars of Nick Junior The Bopps who will be thrilling the children with their antics and last but by no means least theRoald Dahl Museum & Story Centre will once again return to provide story telling and creative activities in 2012. Wychwood is also proud to be welcoming Mumsnet, the hugely influential portal for all things parenting, as a media partner to next year’s festival.

Kaiser Chiefs & James to rock Hard Rock Calling

Black Cards and Vintage Trouble are also confirmed to perform, joining headliner Bon Jovi on Saturday 25 June for what promises to be an incredible weekend of live music.

Returning in fine form, pop-rockers the KaiserChiefs are ready to get the crowds at Hyde Park jumping to hits including I Predict A Riot, Everyday I Love You Less And Less, Oh My God and Ruby,as well as showcasing brand new material from their forthcoming album. The Leeds quintet amassed over three million sales worldwide enjoying international chart success and five UK Top Ten smash hit singles. Also joining the Friday 24 June line-up are Manchester’s own James. The nineties heroes return with their unforgettable hits Laid, Sit Down and Say Something plus many more.

Saturday 25 June additions include Pete Wentz’s new band Black Cards with their first appearance on the UK festival scene, as well as American soul-rockers Vintage Trouble, who gave an incredible performance earlier this year on Later With Jools Holland gaining the band critical-acclaim in the UK.

Now in its sixth consecutive year, Hard Rock Calling has fully established itself as one of the UK’s premier outdoor music events.
