Wireless 2012 adds J Cole, Rizzle Kicks, Kaskade and more to Sunday lineup

J ColeUS Rap phenomenon J Cole will make a welcome return to Barclaycard Wireless Festival.  The first ever artist signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, J. Cole made a name for himself with mixtape ‘The Warm Up’, he also guested on ‘A Star Is Born’ on Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3.  His debut album ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’ went straight in at number one on the US Billboard Top 200 chart last year whilst his November UK tour was a total sell out.

Brighton duo Rizzle Kicks have had an incredible six months.  Their debut album “Stereo Typical” was released late last year and went straight into the top ten whilst singles ‘Down With The Trumpets’ and ‘When I Was A Youngster’ were instant chart smashes, they also scored a number one single featuring on the Olly Murs hit ‘Heart Skips A Beat’. Their latest single, ‘Mama Do The Hump’, is currently at two on the UK Top 40 and A-listed at Radio One.  
 
Voted “America’s Best DJ” by DJ Times late last year Kaskade is a welcome addition to Sunday’s line-up, Barclaycard Wireless Festival will be his only UK festival performance of 2012.   With a string of hit singles to his name including ‘I Remember’, his collaboration with Deadmau5, Kaskade will bring his uplifting sounds to the Hyde Park stage.  Flux Pavilion (aka Joshua Steele) has been a dubstep pioneer in the UK since early 2009.  His undeniable musicality and gift for production was recently verified en masse when his single ‘I Can’t Stop’ was sampled for the standout track ‘Who Gonna Stop Me’ on Kanye West and Jay-Z’s epic ‘Watch the Throne album’. His recent collaboration with Doctor P ‘Superbad’ was R1 Zane Lowe’s  ‘Hottest Record in the World Right Now’ whilst R1 Fearne Cotton made it her ‘Record of the Week’.  Taking a place on the prestigious Sound of 2012 BBC poll in January Flux Pavilion is certain to have an epic year.

Jessie J, Calvin Harris & Labrinth added to Barclaycard Wireless 2012

Barclaycard Wireless will be Rihanna’s only UK performance of 2012, and with these hot UK artists joining the bill it is certain to be a sensational day in the capital.
 
Jessie JJessie J will bring her unique ghetto-pop swagger to Hyde Park for her Barclaycard Wireless debut.  In less than a year, the singer, songwriter and self acclaimed show pony has become a bonafide UK superstar.  She topped the BBC Sound of 2011 poll, was announced the winner of the Critics Choice Awards at the 2011 Brits and her debut single ‘Do It Like A Dude” was awarded Best Song at the 2011 MOBO Awards. With her outrageous flair and undeniable coolness, Jessie will no doubt put on an explosive set.  
 
Calvin Harris will hit Hyde Park with his big, bold and colourful electro dance pop.  He boasts an incredible CV with over seven Top 10 singles, including two number one’s, and over 1.5 million tracks and 500,000 albums sales in the UK.  His recent collaboration with Barclaycard Wireless headliner and Barbardian superstar Rihanna propelled him into the charts once again, with the song hitting number one in the UK and on the Billboard Hot 100. 
 
Labrinth, the East London singer/ songwriter and highly sought after producer made his Barclaycard Wireless debut last year and is sure to give a dazzling performance in 2012.  He made his debut appearance on the UK chart in March 2010 when his collaboration with Tinie Tempah “Pass Out” reached number one, since then he’s gone from strength to strength.  His first solo single “Let The Sun Shine” reached number three last year and second single “Earthquake” hit number two upon its release in October, it has remained in the top ten ever since.

Rihanna to headline Barclaycard Wireless 2012

ke$haPumped up with high-octane punk energy Ke$ha is a hot addition to Saturday 2 July’s line-up which is headlined by dance pioneers The Chemical Brothers.  Signed when she was just 18 her breakthrough came in early 2009 after featuring on Flo Rida’s number one track ‘Right Round’. Her debut single ‘Tik Tok’ reached number one in 11 countries and by September 2010 the feisty popstar had sold two million albums worldwide.  California Electro rap duo LMFAO are one of this year’s biggest pop success stories. Their massive hit ‘Party Rock Anthem’ held the number one spot on the Official UK Singles chart for four weeks.  It’s still in the top five and continues to dominate airwaves across the country. The band made their major-label debut in 2008 with the release of single ‘I’m In Miami Bitch’, they also featured on David Guetta’s song ‘Gettin’ Over You’ which hit number one in the UK last year.  The duo are set to release their second album, ‘Sorry For Party Rocking’ in June.

Added to Sunday 3 July’s line-up, headlined by Pulp, are Aussie synth-pop group Cut Copy.  They catapulted onto the UK dance scene in 2004 with their album ‘Bright Love Neon Love’ whilst their second album ‘In Ghost Colours’ was released in 2008 and hurtled straight to number one in their native Australia.  Dripping in 80s new wave sound their latest album ‘Zonoscope’ was released in February and is sure to be one of the hottest soundtracks of the summer.  Also joining Saturday’s incredible line-up are Portland Oregon-based duo Blind Pilot.  Led by the stunning voice of songwriter Israel Nebeker they blend folk with West Coast indie pop, debut album ‘3 Rounds and a Sound’ was released to critical acclaim in 2008, the band are currently working on their follow-up.

More acts announced for Wireless Festival

mike posnerMike Posner, Natalia Kills and StooShe join the sensational line-up on Friday 1 July, headlined by global superstars The Black Eyed Peas (this will be their only UK festival performance), with other acts including Plan B, Tinie Tempah, David Guetta and Bruno Mars.  Michigan born and raised Mike Posner is part of a new breed of male solo artists who candidly blend pop, R&B and dance. His debut single ‘Cooler Than Me’ was a massive hit worldwide.  It crashed straight into the top five here in the UK, whilst new single ‘Bow Chicka Wow Wow’ sees Posner collaborate with Lil Wayne. UK singer-songwriter Natalia Kills first arrived on the music scene under the stage name Verbalicious. The fierce 23 year old became an online sensation with her hit ‘Don’t Play Nice’. After relocating to Hollywood, she grabbed the attention of Wireless headliner Will.i.am, whom she worked closely with on her debut album Perfectionist.  South East London  trio StooShe are one of the hottest new girl acts this year and are sure to give a storming performance at their first ever Wireless With Barclaycard.
 
alex metricAlex Metric, Alpines and Luke Bingham will join dance pioneers The Chemical Brothers on Saturday 2 July, a day which also boasts Chase & Status, Aphex Twin, The Streets and Janelle Monáe.  Voted ‘Best Remixer of the Year’ by London’s XFM and Number two in Clash Magazine’s ‘Best DJ’s’ of 2010, Alex Metric’s explosive DJ sets encompass an incredible repertoire of original productions and stellar remixes.  Hailing from South London, Alpines describe their sound as ‘night pop’ music.  The duo released their debut EP ‘Night Drive’ in March and are currently working with Arcade Fire producer Craig Silvey on their debut album, due later this year. Leicester’s newest soul singing sensation Luke Bingham is also added to Saturday’s stunning line up.
 
the hivesThe HivesYuck and Vintage Trouble will join headliners Pulp along with the likes of Grace Jones, TV On The Radio and Foals on Sunday 3 July.  Swedish garage rock group The Hives first garnered attention in the early 2000’s as leaders of the garage rock revival. With hits including the infectious ‘Hate to Say I Told You So’ and ‘Main Offender’ they’re guaranteed to give a must-see performance.  Buzzing with the youthful glow of early Teenage Fanclub and Dinosaur Jr., indie quintet Yuck are tipped as spearheads of the new grunge revival.  Kicking off 2011 in ferocious fashion, they breezed into the BBC Sound of 2011 longlist and have just released their self-titled debut album.  California soul rockers Vintage Trouble are one of the hottest new sounds to reach the UK airways this year.  The band have quickly gained a reputation as a high energy and truly mesmerizing live act, so much so that their recent performance on Later…with Jools Holland resulted in them becoming the 6th trending topic of the day on Twitter Worldwide!  Debut album ‘The Bomb Shelter Sessions’ takes you back to the days of vinyl records, sweaty juke joints and the feel and essence of the original soul movement.

Widely considered as one of the best UK grime acts around Chipmunk burst onto the scene in 2009 with his platinum selling debut album ‘I Am Chipmunk…’. He has amassed five top-ten hits on the UK Singles Chart, including the chart topping ‘Oopsy Daisy’, and his highly anticipated second album ‘Transition’ is out soon. One of 2011’s explosive new arrivals, Alexis Jordan, is an 18-year-old pop powerhouse currently tearing up the club & airplay charts in the UK. Cole made himself notable when he dropped his recent mixtape The Warm Up, as well as a coveted guest verse on Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 with ‘A Star Is Born’. New Orleans rapper Jay Electronica will also hit the stage, a fellow Roc Nation recruit, he has gained widespread critical praise for his lyrically dense performances and soulful tunes. Michael Franti and Spearhead also join the bill, well known for their moving politically charged tunes, they were at the forefront of hip-hop’s renaissance, mixing hip-hop with a unique blend of funk, reggae, jazz, and rock. Also added to Saturday’s enviable line-up is North London’s Modestep, electronic dance act Her Majesty and the Wolves featuring former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, Maverick Sabre, who appeared on Professor Green’s latest single, and acclaimed DJ James Holroyd.

The Pretty Reckless have already netted a top ten album here in the UK (for 2010’s Light Me Up), featuring Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen they are set to give an amazing performance. Utah rockers Neon Trees will blast out their hard-hitting anthems of adolescent angst with heart-on-the-sleeve passion. Hotly-tipped Nottingham singer songwriter Liam Bailey, who recently hooked up with fellow Wireless with Barclaycard performers Chase & Status on their hit single Blind Faith also joins the bill, along with Californian trio Funeral Party who will deliver their dance inducing spirit. Irish synth-pop rockers Fight Like Apes, London’s electro-pop maestros Clock Opera and Belfast based Cashier No.9 also join Sunday’s storming line-up.

Her distinct fusion of new wave, pop, reggae and R & B has seen her infiltrate night clubs for the past 30 years while her striking androgynous image scored her the enviable title of Andy Warhol’s muse.  Renowned for her enthralling live shows Grace Jones at Wireless with Barclaycard is a must see performance.

grace jonesJoining Pulp and Grace Jones along with the already announced TV On The Radio, Foals, The Horrors and Metronomy Kiwi quintet The Naked and Famousare winning serious praise.  One of the most exciting, vibrant and interesting Antipodean acts to the hit the UK scene this past year their debut single ‘Young Blood’ became the first debut single by a Kiwi band to reach number one in their home country for 16 years.  In the UK they were recently awarded a highly coveted place in the BBC’s Sound of 2011. Denver based group DeVotchKa also join Sunday’s line-up.  Having developed a powerful distinctive sound, blending a variety of eastern European, Latin and US Southwestern music, with more mainstream rock and punk sounds. Their swelling powerful and reflective ballads, married with the tender crooning of Grammy-nominated front man Nick Urata, has seen the band create the evocative soundscapes for a growing list of films including four-time Academy Award nominated film Little Miss Sunshine, I Love You Phillip Morris and The Joneses.  DeVotchKa’s latest studio album, 100 Lovers was released this month.

Sunday’s line-up now also boasts Texas singer-songwriter Roky Erikson, a living legend. His 1960s band, the 13th Floor Elevators, have been called the pioneers of psychedelic rock, influencing the likes of Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead, and later covered by REM, Primal Scream and even ZZ Top. Making a long-awaited and triumphant return to the recording studio last year after a 14-year hiatus, the imitable rocker released ‘True Love Cast Out All Evil’, a powerful biographical album of harrowing growl and grit which received widespread acclaim.  Five years after their first appearance at Wireless with Barclaycard, LA bred female four piece The Like will be making a welcome return to the Hyde Park stage. With the release of their new album ‘Release Me’, produced by Mark Ronson, the group has developed an entirely new retro-neuvo sound, kindling significant buzz amongst the UK music press.  Enigmatic London based duo Summer Camp are also confirmed and are set to bring their dreamy synth  pop to the stellar Sunday line-up.

Wireless Festival adds David Guetta, Bruno Mars and more!

david guettaAlready boasting The Black Eyed Peas, Brit Award winners Plan B & Tinie Tempah, and Example, Friday July 1’s line-up has now got even better!  Special guest David Guetta will take to the Hyde Park stage with his signature sound of quirky electro, house and dirty pop. He has joined forces with some of pop’s biggest names including Kelly Rowland, Akon, Flo Rida and headliners Black Eyed Peas to create the biggest chart smashes of the past two years.  His fourth album ‘One Love’ has sold over 2.8 million copies, Guetta’s appearance is set to ignite the Hyde Park crowds.  An extraordinary talent, Grammy Award winner Bruno Mars is currently taking the UK by storm.  He co-wrote four UK number one singles in 2010 including his debut solo single ‘Just The Way You Are’ which became one of the biggest selling singles of last year.  This year has seen him release another chart topping single ‘Grenade’ whilst his debutbruno mars album ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ also went straight in at number one.   Multi-talented musician Labrinth has experienced an extraordinary career trajectory. Saturday 2 July is set to be a scorching day of sensational music. Since bursting onto the scene in 2002, The Streets, the sobriquet of Birmingham garage rapper Mike Skinner, has become one of the most respected lyrical maestros of modern rap with his sharp observations of modern life. His second studio album ‘A Grand Don’t Come For Free’, released in 2004, went straight to number one, spawning songs including ‘Fit But Don’t You Know It’ and the number one chart topper ‘Dry Your Eyes’. His next release two years later, ‘The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living’, also headed straight to number one and sold three million copies across the UK. With the release of his fifth and final album as The Streets‘Computers and Blues’ earlier this year, this is set to be one of the last opportunities fans will get to see The Streets live on stage.Urban music’s breakout star Katy B ushered a new wave of R&B last year when she released her dub-step anthem ‘Katy On A Mission’. The single debuted at number five and topped the indie and dance charts. His debut album ‘bud, sweat & beers’ was released in November last year.  Fusing rock and rave German dance punk duo Digitalism who have re-worked tracks for the likes of The White Stripes, The Klaxons and The Cure are another fantastic addition to Saturday’s sterling bill.

The news of Pulp’s return late last year was met with worldwide excitement and tickets for their only confirmed UK headline performance are selling fast! TV On The Radio, Foals, The Horrors and Metronomy are the first of many big name artists to be announced to play across the Park’s four stages on Sunday 3 July.

 
Brooklyn-based boys TV On The Radio make a long awaited return after a year hiatus. Defined by their mix of post-punk and electronic melody they shot to fame with the self-release of their debut album ‘OK Calculator’.  The band are one of the most innovative bands of the 2000s and have won critical praise across the board, in 2004 they were awarded the prestigious Shortlist Music Prize in the US.  They are currently putting the finishing touches to their sixth studio album, ‘Nine Types of Light’, which is set for release later this year.  Their evocative epic stage show is set to entrance when they hit Wireless with Barclaycard this summer.
 
Oxford quintet Foals arrived in 2008 with the release of their debut album, ‘Antidotes’, which crashed straight into the top ten at number three.  Second album, ‘Total Life Forever’, was released in the UK last year and also debuted in the top ten, it was nominated for the Barclaycard Mercury Music Award and recognised as one of the Top Ten albums of 2010. With their hauntingly gritty tunes and energetic stage presence, Foals are set to put on an unforgettable show.  Hailed as the best band in the country when they exploded onto the UK scene, The Horrors, led by the enigmatic Faris Badwan are sure to perform a show stopping set. Their third album, the follow up to the critically acclaimed ‘Primary Colours’, will be out this year.   The electro-pop charms of Metronomy are certain to get the masses dancing, proving it’s possible for electronic bands to put on shows as mindblowing as any rock band in the process.  The band’s highly anticipated third album, ‘The English Riviera’, is coming soon.
 
With an already enviable array of talent confirmed and many more acts to be announced in the coming weeks Wireless with Barclaycard is set to be jam-packed with the biggest sounds of the summer.
