The Killers to headline Hard Rock Calling Friday 24th June

brandon flowersThe Killers have now reunited to begin writing a new record, and plan to celebrate with a Hyde Park show that will encompass hits from their three studio albums to date: ‘Hot Fuss’ (2004), ‘Sam’s Town’ (2006) and ‘Day & Age’ (2008)). The band will perform much-loved hits including Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me, All These Things That I’ve Done, Spaceman, When You Were Young, Read My Mind and Human – as well as some fan-favourites from 2007’s Sawdust.

Says The Killers’ Ronnie Vannucci of the Hyde Park show, “It’s been too long, friends… Feels like forever since we’ve seen each other and now it’s time we pay a visit. Have to get the machine oiled and ready to make this kinda thing happen more often. Feeling creative, let’s do this.”

The Killers rocked the stage at Hard Rock Calling 2009,” said Hamish Dodds, President and CEO, Hard Rock International. “And we’re extremely excited to have them back this year for an encore performance.

– OBELISK ARENA –

they might be giantsThe open space of Latitude’s Obelisk Arena is a beautiful natural amphitheatre that has housed truly momentous performances over the past five years. Renowned for pushing the envelope and offering something not found anywhere else, lay down your picnic blanket or put on your dancing shoes for the 2011 Obelisk Arena line-up.
Joining the Obelisk Arena on Saturday is They Might Be Giants who have been a mainstay on the American indie scene for almost three decades. Uniquely quirky, with buoyant melodies, cheeky keyboard lines and baiting guitars and mandolins, their music is often bolstered by horns, fiddles and whatever else can be squeezed into their humorous hits. This quintet have edged their way into mainstream gradually, first by contributing ‘Boss Of Me’ for the theme song of hit comedy show ‘Malcolm In The Middle’ and have since contributed music to shows and films including Disney’s 2005 ‘Sky High’. Of late they’ve produced four educational children’s albums, including 2009’s Grammy nominated ‘Here Comes Science’. With a huge wealth of material to draw on, They Might Be Giants is guaranteed to be one of the most entertaining spectacles on the Obelisk Arena this year. You may even learn something! (Saturday)

– THE WORD ARENA –

The Word Arena’s large canopy stands proud at the top of the main arena, looking out over the beautiful Latitude site. Playing host to a veritable smorgasbord of musical pleasures and leaving crowds transfixed by an eclectic line-up that crosses genre boundaries effortlessly.

The Brazilian psychedelic band Os Mutantes returned from a two and a half decade hiatus in 2006 to the delight of Tropicália fans, the band now appear on The Word Arena for Latitude fans on the Sunday. A synthesis of rock ‘n’ roll and African and Brazillian rhythms – which was also tied into the movement that was inspired by avant garde poetry and incorporated theatre as well as music – the band helped popularise the genre in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Their swirling mass of sound which shimmers with acoustic guitars, brass instruments and spectral feminine vocals was heavily influenced by the UK and US psychedelia of the time. Now they are one of the most recognised and influential Brazilian bands ever and have most recently played shows with modern counterparts The Flaming Lips and collaborated with fellow eccentric Devendra Banhart. Open your mind to Os Mutantes. (Sunday)

– FILM & MUSIC ARENA –

One of the most diverse and cutting edge elements to Latitude’s repertoire, the Film & Music Arena offers audiences mesmerising displays, performances and viewings of fantastic cinema and music. Sonically and visually rich, the worlds of alternative film and music collide with a full programme of award- winning screenings, documentaries, shorts, Q&A discussions and musical treats.

Once again the Film & Music Arena will be home to a fantastically eclectic range of music courtesy of radio DJ, presenter and all-round music aficionado Mark Lamarr. Presenting his renowned Saturday night Radio 2 show – God’s Jukebox – Lamarr will be DJ-ing his usual mix of tunes from soul, ska, reggae, country, gospel and rap as well as well as introducing these four hand-picked bands and performers to play live in the Film & Music Arena:
Marrying Jamaican ska with Cuban mambo Ska Cubano was created as an infectious and exciting London-based Caribbean retro band, a cross-generational and cross-cultural 11-strong ska super band. Currently enjoying the success of third album ‘Mambo Ska’ which came out last year, this band deliver relentless good-time music that brings elements of other genres in an effortless fusion. Their combined blend of influences has produced high-octane party and festival music of the first order. Be sure to get involved in the summer vibe in the Film & Music Arena.

Boston-based, internationally followed, Barrence Whitfield is a full-throttle soul screamer in the spirit of Little Richard, Wilson Pickett and Solomon Burke. He has been described as the owner of one incredible pair of lungs, with limitless energy and unmatched enthusiasm for his music and his audience. Crazed, frenetic and completely unhinged Barrence is a must-see. Rockabilly, roots, jump blues, funk and of course soul are all here in true bombastic form. Latitude festival goers are treated to this special performance as Barrence makes his way over the Atlantic especially for this show.

Brighton based Afro-Latino-Funk band Kalakuta Millionaires blend “Fela Kuti-inspired brass lines, Latin percussion, afro-psych organ and James Brrown-style funk riffs” giving every Latitude music performer a run for their money in the energy stakes. This 8 -10 piece band have been played on Craig Charles’ Funk & Soul show on 6Music as well as performing a Maida Vale session for our Jukebox host. A full-on rhythmic experience where dancing is pretty much mandatory.

The Zizaniques were founded by Cyrus Gabrysch – a classical pianist working in Utah and New York – when he moved to the UK to record his debut album. His gruff, sandpaper vocals claw gloriously over the flourishing, bright folk-influenced music, recalling artists as diverse as John Martyn and The Pogues. With an intriguing musical background and even more enthralling tales to tell, The Zizaniques will be yet another stop-off at Latitude’s music line-up.

– DJs –

As night dawns over the Suffolk countryside, the festival is transformed into a revellers paradise. All across the site, pockets of unmissable parties can be discovered catering for every music taste under the night sky. Ravers, rockers, indie-scenesters and electro-heads – all hedonists alike will be catered for when the very best DJs descend on Latitude this year – making this the place to let loose.

goldierocksJoining the line-up of those DJs already confirmed – Feeling Gloomy, Beef Warehouse and Eddy Temple-Morris – is DJ du jour and party extraordinaire Goldierocks who will be bringing her trademark indie/electro mash-up to Latitude. Stunning, sassy and salacious ,Goldierocks is famed for providing the sounds at countless, fashionable aftershows, ‘it’ parties and festivals all over the world. If you want to get your night rocking in style then Goldierocks is no doubt the DJ for you.

Elsewhere throughout the weekend, festival goers can enjoy readings from leading poets and authors including Linton Kwesi Johnson, Louise Wener, Tim Key, Simon Armitage, Rory McGrath, Dave Gorman and Alexei Sayle; top comics Alan Carr, Omid Djalili, Greg Davies and a festival debut of Never Mind The Buzzcocks; exciting theatre and dance productions presented by The Gate, Bush Theatre, Sadler’s Wells and English National Ballet to name but a few, cabaret performances from David Schneider & Friends, Will Adamsdale, Idiots of Ants; and BAFTA return to the Film & Music Arena with a fantastic programme of Q&As, discussions and workshops including comedy stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon discussing their hilarious work on Michael Winterbottom’s ‘The Trip’.

With DJs, The Winter’s Ball and late night parties found throughout the site, it is a unique and special weekend of fun, culture and entertainment. An intimate world away from reality waiting to be explored and enjoyed.

SW4 2011 Main Stage Lineup’s announced

SATURDAY 27TH AUGUST:
MAIN STAGE IN ASSOCIATION WITH MINISTRY OF SOUND
JOHN DIGWEED / LAIDBACK LUKE / PETE TONG (RADIO 1)
JAMES ZABIELA / HERNAN CATTANEO / SOS

john digweed“I am very lucky to have been asked back again to play at one of the UK`s premier Festivals SW4. For me it just seems to get better and better each year, They really do deliver a fantastic day out in the centre of London featuring the world’s best DJ`s and live acts, so to be part of this again is amazing. Really looking forward to my set and also seeing who else is playing. To play to your home crowd in the centre of London is the best experience any DJ could have.” John Digweed

Since opening its doors on 21st September 1991 as an alcohol-free nightclub dedicated to house music,Ministry of Sound has gone onto become a flagship for British youth culture; an iconic brand that includes the world’s most famous club, the world’s largest independent record label, and a multimedia entertainment business, all directed from their South London home. 2011 is a significant milestone forMinistry of Sound as it marks their 20th anniversary. To celebrate the Ministry will be involved with a series of events across the globe, none as big as hosting the main stage at South West Four onSaturday 27th August.

laidback lukeIn addition to a London festival exclusive live performance from the undisputed kings of electronic music Underworld, SW4 welcomes a huge lineup of world class DJs to Saturday’s main stage lineup. Having graced the green grass of Clapham Common on six consecutive occasions, with hisBedrock arena one of the highlights of last year, John Digweed is back. Following his sell out Brixton Academy show back in October and an intimate Bedrock event at London’s Arcadia over Easter, expect John to end the summer in style. Laidback Luke made his very successful debut at last year’s South West Four with a performance that had the Common rocking under the August sun. Continuing to produce some of the biggest tracks to hit our airwaves, not to mention selling out clubs and events the world over, we’re delight to welcome Luke back to SW4. 2011 represents 20 years of Pete Tong hosting his BBC Radio 1 show. He has a massive summer ahead with many huge performances celebrating this milestone and a much anticipated return to Pacha Ibiza for an all new residency. Having rocked the main stage in 2010 we’re delighted to welcome Pete back to his home town for another memorable appearance.

James Zabiela’s last SW4 performance came back in 2009. After having two years away from the Common it was time to welcome the technical whiz kid back. A hugely popular figure and a a stellar addition to any line-up, we’re very excited about what to expect. One of the world’s great DJs Argentina’sHernan Cattaneo debuts at SW4 in 2011. A name synonymous with deep, tribal and progressive house, we’re delighted to be able to add him to Saturday’s line-up alongside Demi and Omid 16B akaSOS.

“We are delighted to be hosting the main stage at SW4 festival this year! After throwing secret invite only raves for five years we wanted to open the invitation out to everyone, so we’ve asked some of the biggest acts on the planet to join us on stage in Clapham this summer. The main stage is always the focal point of any festival but the mindblowing acts and production we have in store for this year will take things to a level never seen before!  Prepare yourselves because we’re about to destroy the city of London!” Mark Adams (Union)

Revered as the blueprint for a 21st century club night – secret but fun, exciting but underground, Union has gained a ferociously loyal following in a very short time. With an insane and hedonistic crowd and awe inspiring production, Union is an example of what can be achieved when you tear up the rulebook! 2011 marks the fifth anniversary of Union’s residency at the legendary Fabric in London and their hosting of the main stage on Sunday 28th August at SW4 is one of a series of non-secret events to celebrate.

Alongside the musical juggernaut that is Pendulum and dubstep’s most loved trio Magnetic Man, Sunday’s main stage line-up focuses on the more alternative side of the dance music spectrum. The first lady of BBC Radio 1, Annie Mac, has this year continued to take her‘Annie Mac presents’ tour across the world with monstrous parties that have turned many a head. Add to that her hugely successful weekly radio show and you’re looking at one of the most talked about DJs of our time. As the leader of the Digital Soundboy SystemShy FXleads a tight-knit team of like-minded Soundboy soldiers. This includes the prestigious Breakage, one of the world’s premier female DJs B.Traits with MC Donaeo, DJ Marky’s MC of choice Stamina and one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic vocal talents, Youngman.Adding more live music to the Sunday Main Stage lineup, London’s grime sensation Wretch 32 has recently shot to fame after the release of his debut smash hit ‘Traktor’. Having toured the UK extensively this year to rave reviews, we’re delighted to add him to the SW4 line-up. It’s not often you see a life sized dinosaur play electro but this is what can be expected fromTotally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Beginning her music career as a DJ in London just two years ago, Yasmin has already founded her own successful club night, spun around the world for N.E.R.D., Taio Cruz and Eve and played storming sets at Glastonbury and Ibiza Rocks. Established as a world-class spinner, Yasmin is now ready to make her mark as a fully-fledged artist, singer and songwriter in her own right. Her next stop? SW4.

Leftfield’s Leftism comes to Beat Herder Festival 2011

Leftfield’s Head Honcho Neil Barnes says “I am very happy to be playing at Beat Herder this year. Feels like I am coming home!” It is a great honour to be on the same bill as Simian Mobile Disco and Andrew Weatherall amongst all the other great acts. Can’t Wait!”

left fieldLast year, Leftfield took the Live show on the road after years in hibernation and we are so excited that the Ribble Valley is going to experience what has only been described as a ‘mind blowing visual and aural feast’

Dance music’s underground heroes Dreadzone are the next act to be added to this burgeoning bill, along with Acid House legend Greg Wilson, DJ du jour Doorly. Going back to our roots on the reggae tip are The Selecter featuring Pauline Black and Gaps Hendrickson and original Rude Boy Neville Staple.

Deep in the heart of sleepy Ribble Valley something magical is on the boil! The festival gears and wheels have been slowly turning all through the winter and preparation for the best Beat-Herder yet is well under way.

500 Early Bird tickets sold out in a record 5 minutes! Full priced weekend tickets are now on sale for £85. This year children tickets are £15! Run by six hardy and creative Yorkshire men, preparation for the ‘best one yet’ is well under way! Beat-Herder HQ is already working over time cooking up a ruddy delectable pot of artistry, nonsense and Beat-Herder barminess for your fun packed festival pleasure. Oo err! The spectacular Beat-Herder workshop is already crammed with wood and recycled junk that is being lovingly crafted into the nuts and bolts of the madcap creations that make the breath taking festival site.
This year we have been working on beautifying the woodland, ready for a new and intriguing area has already begun, there’s a lot of work involved, but we’re really excited, it’s going to be ‘quality’.

And our fancy dress frenzy is being announced too.. Friday is Flower Power day to bring some colour, joy peace and love to Beat-Herder for you and your lovely petals. Saturday night is Everything begins with an E! Think Eggboxes, ET, Eskimos, Elephants, ETC ETC! oooh how Exciting!

With zero official sponsorship, no egos and not a scrap of branding in sight Beat-Herder is not about platinum selling artists on huge stages but about creative festival fun, locally sourced food and booze (at cheap as chips prices) and the friendliest most up for it crowds this side of the Pennines!

Beat-Herder legend has it that in the beginning there was the Toil Trees where the Toil Sound system brought friends together to party beneath the trees. The landowner was set to cut down the forest but he enjoyed himself so much that he couldn’t bear to chop it down. And so Beat- Herder was born and has grown from strength to strength! 2010 saw Beat-Herder scoop the runner up prize for ‘Best Dance Event’ at the UK Festival Awards and this year looks set to be the biggest to date!

With hay stacks more of amazing DJs and live acts soon to be revealed watch this space as Beat-Herder 2011 is going to be a goodun’!

And that folks is definitely not all! When your legs tire of dancing to this little lot why not check out the amazing extras… Being small, intimate and perfectly formed there’s never far to walk but there are still plenty of stages, interactive nonsense and hidden surprises to satisfy even the most curious of Beat-Herders!

Stop of for a brew or a beer at Mikey’s Tea Shack, sit down beneath the hanging baskets on one of the famous Beat-Herder vibrating benches (a favourite with the older lady) or check out one of the many magical surprises hidden around every corner. Last years Granma’s Launderette hidden deep in the trees through a 20m long tunnel was a massive hit and this year the BH crew are thinking bigger so watch this space!

Also back by popular demand for 2011 is the legendary Working Men’s Club. Remember 10p pints, Ford Cortinas, three-day weeks and the miner’s strikes? No? Well neither do we but we like to party like its 1970 at Beat-Herders very own working men’s club! It has all the glamour of a 70s pit village with added real ale, silliness and glittery blue eye shadow. The working men’s club with play host to the annual “Beat-Herders got Talent (judged last year by Coronation Street’s very own Jannis Battersby).” And again, mad old nana moon will be having a sing a long, there will be bingo, and some top class talent will also be performing!

Easily heard but not as easy to find, the Toil Trees stage which this year has a new and improved crispy clear sound system can be found tucked snuggly amongst the trees, the epicenter of the festival. Get amongst it and dance to the eclectic beats that last throughout the night.

With it’s intimate fun atmosphere and amazing facilities Beat-Herder strikes the perfect balance between ‘up for it crowd’ and family friendly vibe. With a new and improved Kids field and super cheap kid’s tickets, Beat Herder’s of every age are warmly welcomed!

More amazing acts and madness soon to be announced so watch this space!

More acts for Melt!
jose gonzalezWe are particularly looking forward to José González’ acoustic performance this year. Besides his gig with Junip, the Swedish singer-songwriter is about to be the first to climb the Gemini Stage on Sunday. After Kings of Convenience’s wonderful acoustic concert in 2010, González is about to ring in the last festival day with delightful feel good atmosphere in 2011 – continuing the tradition.

Patrick Wolf also found his way into this year’s line-up. In 2009, he made the clouds disappear with his extraordinary performance, and in 2011, he will make everyone jump for joy with his new album. The Californian Cold War Kids and the British Noah & The Whale will also perform songs off their 2011 albums. We Have Band, on the other hand, keep on proving that they are true pros on stage with their debut WHB.

richie hawtinIn terms of electronic music, we have also something to offer: Richie Hawtin is now part of our line-up, joined by Chase & Status and Fake Blood, who will perform live for the first time at Melt!. Also performing live: Azari & III as well as Nôze, who will arrive with his band. Addison Groove completes the Melt! Selektor Stage’s line-up.

With Matt And Kim as well as The Hundred In The Hands, we welcome two duos from New York that will definitely score with their energetic live shows. These New Puritans rather dedicate themselves to experimental soundscapes. With the Danish When Saints Go Machine, we also have fantastic newcomers on board, The Sound Of Arrows present us with fairy tale synth pop, and Crocodiles conquer the stage with a rough version of Dandyism. Dirty guitar sounds are the legendary Berlin band Mutter as well as Duchess Says’ forte.

Melt! Anthem
You should also mark the 18th of April in your calendar. At noon, we will upload this year’s Melt! anthem to our website (http://www.meltfestival.de/hymne), which will be available for free. We won’t tell you who wrote it, but we go way back. Another clue might be our slogan “U Melt! My Heart”.

Groove Presents
This year, we are also looking forward to a fantastic premiere: our media partner, Groove, curates 24 straight hours at Sleepless Floor for the first time. Under the banner of Groove Presents, the German magazine for electronic music and club culture brings us established and upcoming labels and their artists. Uncanny Valley are the first to arrive with Jacob Korn (live), The Moroders, and Albrecht Wasserleben. Wolf + Lamb send Gadi Mizrahi, No Regulars, Maayan Nidam and Miss Fitz. The Smallville delegation is comprised of Christopher Rau, Smallpeople aka Dionne & Julius Steinhoff. Last but not least, Stroboscopic Artefacts is represented by Lucy, Edit Select, and Dadub (live).

Melt! Pre-Party
The Audiolith crew’s parking lot raves have been an integral part of the Melt! cosmos since always. They had always been the perfect but unofficial opening party of Melt! Festival till last year. Then the boys officially came on board. Since the pre-party got bigger and bigger, we simply moved the debauchery from the parking lot to the Intro Zelt so we wouldn’t disturb the neighbours too much. In 2011, the pre-party will once again be held on Thursday night (14th July) with an obvious Audiolith presence. Frittenbude will conquer the stage together with Egotronic, Mediengruppe Telekommander are about to perform songs off their new album (a Audiolith/Staatsakt collaboration), various Audiolith DJs will fuel Melt! madness among the crowd and a secret special guest is also going to show up. Once again, the pre-party’s capacity is limited. Like last year, you have to pay a EUR 5 cover charge (incl. fees), which will be partially donated to charity. Tickets for our pre-party are only available as etickets here (www.meltfestival.de/tickets) in combination with a festival ticket only.

By the way: last year’s pre-party was sold out. So if you want make sure that you actually get in, we urge you to buy your ticket in advance.

Melt! Train
Our hotel train rides again! Last year, our beds on wheels option for Melt! premiered. In 2011, a train will ride once more to the festival site in Ferropolis as part of our environmental project M!Eco.

In collaboration with Cool-Tours ( http://www.cool-tours.de/) and MixeryFunTravel (http://www.mixery-fun-travel.de/), we charter a Euro Express train, which will depart from Cologne. The train is stopping directly in front of the festival grounds. The best thing about it: every passenger will have his or her own private bed on Melt! Train including sanitary arrangements for four days. To assure that only Hotel Train passengers have access to their departments, special wristbands will be handed out.

One compartment of the train is also equipped with its own DJ and a bar run by Cool-Tours. The bar will be open during the journey as well as during the day on location. New this year: Cool-Tours offers daily breakfast for EUR 19, which can be ordered in advance or on arrival. Train attendants will care for your needs the entire journey.

Return journey plus four overnight stays will cost you EUR 99 (per person, festival ticket not included). To guarantee that you will be booked in a compartment with all your friends (up to six), one of you has to book single tickets for all the others. So if you book a compartment with six beds this will cost you EUR 594.

Book your ticket via Cool-Tours here ( http://www.festivalreisen.de/index.php?cat=c16_Melt%21.html). Further info on eco-friendly travel options to Melt! will be posted here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/melt_reise) soon.

Patrick Wolf, Yelle and more for Get Loaded in the Park

patrick wolfDescribed by the Observer as ‘Britain’s most innovative, radical and creative pop star’, Get Loaded in the Park is delighted to welcome Patrick Wolf to the main stage line-up. Joining him will also be eight piece cult indie heroes Los Campesinos!

The Gigwise stage promises something for everyone this year; joining Darwin Deez to get everyone in the summer mood will be Babeshadow, who recently toured with Florence and the Machine and electro-pop French artist Yelle, who is currently on tour with Katy Perry. Proceedings will take a darker turn when Goth rockers O.Children and South West London synth duo Alpines hit the stage.

The Last.FM stage hosted by The Flower Pot will be headlined by Johnny Flynn, described by The Times as ‘the next poster boy for the nu-folk scene’. He will be joined by the sweet harmonious hooks and rockabilly beats of Slow Club, hotly tipped spoken word hip hop act Sound of Rum which features the lyrical genius of Kate Tempest, The Agitator, aka Derek Meins, whose songs, according to the Guardian ‘sound like Billy Bragg barking over Public Enemy beats’, Beans on Toast, who blends a dark wit with serious social and political satire, and newcomers Dark Moon (Joe Strummer’s daughter’s band) and The Joker and the Thief.

Having aligned itself with London’s leading inner-city festivals, Get Loaded in the Park has garnered a reputation for showcasing heavy hitters within the alternative music scene. With the main stage line-up already boasting names such as Razorlight, The Cribs, Noisettes, British Sea Power and Patrick Wolf this year looks set to be one of the best yet.
