Secret Garden Party 2012 SOLD OUT

Head Gardener, Fred Fellowes comments:

‘We are thrilled to sell out in April for our 10th Birthday. It’s the fastest-selling ever, which is incredible given the current financial climate. A big hug and thanks to all our Gardeners; here’s to the best SGP ever.  For those who are disappointed and can no longer get tickets we have taken the creative side of SGP to Glade Festival and Wilderness this year so be sure to check those out. Glade is an electronic dance event that has the added value of the SGP imagination and attention to detail with favourites such as the Dance Off, Theatre, great food, Glasto’s Rabbit Hole and an amazing underground dancefloor in the woods. And for the more culturally inclined, Wilderness also has the SGP touch, with such offerings as the Secret Forum, long table Michelin banquets, fantastic live music, theatre and kids’ villages.’

From humble beginnings in 2004, the Secret Garden Party’s appeal has grown organically over the years; its ethos of fun, friendliness and participation connecting to a new generation of festival goers. It has remained proudly independent and non-corporate in its outlook – a festival of the arts where everyone is the artist.

During that time over 34,000 performers, musicians, stall-holders and 13,500 volunteers have helped contribute to its success.  SGP’s Head Gardeners’ salutes and thanks you all.

The spin-off in financial terms to the local economy has been approximately £3m in 2011 freedom and over £17m since its inception. It has supported local charities and community projects in the Abbots and Kings Ripton area – such as the local village school, Jubilee’s celebrations, Huntingdon Art College and St Ives Secondary School.

The Fo:rem

The Fo:rem, the garden’s popular intellectual platform, has also announced some really exciting names in the fields of science, philosophy, technology and literature that will be enriching gardeners this summer.  This summer’s line-up of movers & shakers includes Jamie Catto, Robin Ince, Josie Long, Aleks Krotoski, Chris Hatherill, Ann Daniels and Benjamin Morris.  We are also told that we can expect mind-bending talks, spoken word performance and workshops hosted by Liars League, BERG, Super/Collider, Literary Death Match, Elephant, The Lost Lectures, Fast Future and PLEB.

The Never Ever Land Theatre and Nocturnium for Lost Children

As with everything at the party, gardeners can expect oodles of participation, interaction, simulation and sheer silliness. And the Never Ever Land Theatre Tent is of course no exception. The Troubadours of Tax Deductible Theatre Company have confirmed a delectable line-up of performance to suit every palate. Gardeners can look forward to hilarious, rock n’ roll performances from Shitfaced Shakespeare, mind-blowing bowing from the all-singing, all-dancing string quartet Bow Jangles, surrealist puppetry by Colossal Crumbs and the Goodyearian National Theatre Company will be back to bemuse and baffle audiences with their nation customs and dances.  There will be psychedelic dancing by Huru Dance, big surprises from Little Bulb Theatre, mischievous revelry from the naughty, natty Victorian Tiny Wallops and of course the in-house reprobates Tax Deductible Theatre Company will be offering delightfully shambolic comedy hours.

And when the theatre closes its doors after dark, the fun does not stop. Opening at midnight the 'Nocturnium for Lost Children' will be a haunted den of debauchery, featuring award-winning burlesque act Femme Ferale, music from King Lagoon's Flying Swordfish Dance Band and La Mort Subite …amongst many others.

A few favourite picks for Family Gardeners…

There will be plenty of fun, games and activities for young gardeners too.  Look out for Sky Blue Theatre Company’s theatrical workshops, which they will be running for children of all ages in the Never Ever Land Theatre Tent.  Join The Flying Seagulls Circus for some ‘laughter therapy’, circus skills and other crazy games at Kids Camp.  Where young gardeners can also take part in the multi-coloured glittery Candy Floss Olympics with The Secret Micronation of Candy Queens, join a drumming circle, learn capoeira, explore the music maze, screen print a t-shirt, create a headdress, write a story with Writers Ink Suitcase Stories, make a pizza or watch a puppet show with The Italian Job.  And after all that, families can relax under the stars with Ready Steady Science at a storytelling workshop. And for the really young gardeners Kids Camp will be running multi-sensory workshops too.

Soul Fire Restaurant

The garden’s sensual food sanctuary, the Soul Fire Restaurant is now taking bookings for The Secret Garden Party 2012. Returning for its fourth year, this is the perfect place to relax, connect with friends and replenish a famished soul during the party. Housed in a cosy hub of deliciously dressed yurts, Soul Fire provides a retreat where you can eat and be merry. Live music will play all day and evening guests will be treated to fabulous performances.

Theme: Standing on Ceremony

The real power of the party is not just about what you are watching or doing, but the fact that you are watching and doing it together. This year, as The Garden celebrates her 10th Birthday, we explore those ceremonies, rituals, initiations, anniversaries and carnivals that bind us together, that emphasise matter over mind, that emphasise our true gifts as humans: social existence.

Well known for championing new music over its 14 live music stages. the gardeners are already tipping Pearl And The Beard, Legendary Tigerman and Scanners for big things in 2012.

The real power of the party is not just about what you are watching or doing, but the fact that you are watching and doing it together. This summer, for the garden’s 10th birthday celebrations, gardeners can expect to be united under the theme ‘Standing on Ceremony’, with more collective celebration, interactive theatre, hypnotic ceremonies and breathtaking spectacles than ever before. The garden will once again play host to an abundance of new dramatic and innovative artworks by a huge range of rising installation artists from all over the world.

We will see the return of many garden favourites such as OneTaste, Wormfood's Valley of the Antics, The Crossroads, The Artful Badgers, The Feast of Fools, Bearded Kitten's infamous Collo-Silly-Um, Where the Wild Things Are, The Pagoda, The Living Room, Small World, Tax Deductible’s Never-Ever Land Theatre and of course, the Dance Off.  The much loved Remix Bubble will be coming back even bigger and better as 'The Temple of Boom' and the Pirate Technic's crew are already working hard on their most ambitious creation yet for the legendary lake stage.

There will be even more radical action camps encouraging play and participation across the party. Over the last few years, the intellectual platforms in particular have grown very rapidly, developing handsomely to form an exciting area unique to The Secret Garden Party.  Each space is lovingly programmed by fellow gardeners and together they offer a very alternative programme of talks, debates, discussions, science experiments, poetry, theatre, games and workshops.  There are numerous camps where gardeners can go to be edified, enlightened and enthralled. This summer we can expect wild rituals and mind bending discussions led by some of the country’s finest experts in their fields.

Of course, delicious fine-dining cuisine will be on offer in the Soul Fire Restaurant and there are even more Boutique Camping luxuries to choose from this summer too.
