Other artists added to the bill are Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Tom Williams and The Boat, Sophie Barker (Zero 7), Liz Lawrence, Gabrielle Aplin, Dimbleby and Capper who will all play in the Get Loud in Libraries Stage! The Library massive will host live music on the Friday and be open for books, tea, cake and Rockanory (bedtime stories read by rock stars of course).
 
The Riot Jazz stage are back bigger than ever, the festivals best kept secret step up with a celebration of Victorian mayhem purveying a zoo of exotic jewels and the finest selection of world music. Riot Jazz Stage will feature the inhouse Riot Jazz Brass Band, Extra Love, Paper Tiger and Rastamau5 to name just some of the round-the-clock live acts.
 
Kendal Calling are opening up their living room back by popular demand, because everyone loves a houseparty right? Decorated out like a big front room, The Soapbox Stage returns bigger and better this year and is home to comedy, DJ’s and storytelling and features a headline set from Mr B The Gentlemen Rhymer, Tim Burgess DJ set, Dave Haslam, poet laureate Marvin Cheeseman, George McKay, Dicky Dippinson, hilarious country band Bushpig, The Sky Muffins, Skint & Demoralised, Witch and the Robot, Craig West, Robin Walker, Karl Yates and Hat Club DJs. There will be poetry each afternoon from the likes of Mike Garry and Chris Jam before dusk descends for some live burlesque.
Soapbox comedy comes from the likes of Mitchy Benn, Silky, Jim Smallman and Barry Dodds. Not to mention Gary Delaney, Danny McLoughlin, Chris Turner, Martin Mor.

Fireflies come to life at nightfall, and strange animals prowl around high above. Come dressed as an ugly bug and join the parade of the weird and wonderful creatures of creation.
Monstrous Garden hosts the Kaylied Stage, where artists from the worldwide underground scene bring their eclectic musical vision to the Lake District. From new takes on folk to old school bluegrass, from Geordie bluesmen to legendary Zimbabwean musicians get your musical education here.
Spiced daily with some serious funk and soul, the Monstrous Garden is one of the best alternative areas of the festival. Rock up on Saturday for an Ugly Bug Hoe Down with Cut a Shine, the most dynamic barn dance band on the planet.
 
The Ladybird area will be loved by adults and children alike, returning with a programme full of quality performance and craft workshops for all with a different theme each day. 
The Happy Slap Circus are out in force, bringing with them a ridiculous feast of misbehaving shenanigans. Hosting a tent that’s over-spilling with music, walk around performers, games masters and makeup artists ready to fun up your face. Don’t miss the mustache musketeers hosting group games of mustache Jenga and ‘Pin the Mustache on the Freddy Mercury’.
On Saturday Happy Slap Circus host an Ugly Bug Ball inviting everyone to dress up as insects and try some cricket hopping, dung and spoon race and much more but watch out for the fly swat team!

Pioneers of new music, Kendal Calling support rising stars alongside the worlds biggest bands and the Calling Out Stage is bursting with some of the most hotly tipped acts of the year with more still to be announced.
 
Joining headliners Blondie, The Cribs and Chase & Status; the most recent additions have added to a killer line up and now is the time to bag the last few remaining tickets for this years show and experience the hottest group of acts to land in the stunning lake district in 2011.
 
house of painCelebrating their 20th anniversary, House of Pain play Kendal Calling as part of their reunion tour. The act behind one of the most memorable tracks in hip hop history “Jump Around”; multi platinum selling duo House of Pain are in town with a raucous rap show and our Kendal crowd are raring bounce!
 
Frank Turner will take to the main stage with his gorgeous and unique folk sound alongside one of the most inventive collectives of recent times, New York’s Easy Star All Stars; acclaimed for their incredible re-works of classic albums including their release Dub Side of the Moon.
 
derrick carterWith the Glow Dance Stage bursting with world-class beats, Derrick Carter leads the charge. One of the pinnacles of Chicago house music’s 90’s wave, DJ and producer Derrick Carter has a career spanning two decades and will keep the tent pumping with his legendary sound late into the night.
 
Also on mixing duties is techno protagonist Adam Freeland, purveyor of chart topping club classics Herve, North West hero Yousef and the stunningly raucous The Japanese Popstars.
 
New for this year will be Sunday afternoon in the Glow tent filled with live dance acts featuring hip hop, trip hop, ska, grime and everything in between to bring everyone round for a thumping evening of huge tunes.
 
Carlisle based promoters and DJ collective UBER are hosting the Sunday night with an evening of house and techno to bring a euphoric close to the weekend including the legendary Derrick Carter, Yousef, Jesse Rose plus much more.
 
Manchester promoters Ape kick things off in the dance tent, curating an extra special one-night-only of drum n bass, dubstep and other bass driven genres. Watch this space for their yet to be announced line-up…
 
Funk DJ Craig Charles has delivered stomping sets at Kendal year upon year and this year he steps it up a notch and is back to programme his very own tent on Sunday!The Craig Charles Funk & Kendal Calling Soul Club showcases a handpicked line up of some of the best funk & soul artists in the UK right now including The Leonard Jones Potential, The Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra & Smoove and Turrell.
 
Craig Charles says: “Kendal Calling is my home festival, it’s an honour to be invited back. I hope you can afford the repair bill when we tear the roof off the Lake District and smash it into a million funky little pieces!”

Kendal Calling Ticket warning + Luxury Camping info

Kendal Calling, now in it’s 6th year has seen an increase in demand for tickets earlier this year and due to unprecedented sales would like to make sure those planning on attending the annual weekend of revelry can all get in on the action.

The full line-up for the festival has not been revealed but is due to be announced in the next month. News of new attractions and areas are also coming soon.
Andy Smith, Director of Kendal Calling Says: “We’ve been slogging away hard over the dark winter months to put together a line up that will make Kendal Calling proud so it’s really awesome to see that people have responded so well to what has been announced so far. Compared to last year ticket sales are ahead by a phenomenal distance – hello and thank you to all those who have been before and those new comers who will be joining us in the fields this year!

We’re really excited to be expanding on the success of last years Emperors Fields and this year, after feedback from previous visitors we’ll also be offering festival-goers a custom-made glamorous camping experience (or just that added bit of luxury) to make their festival even more special with our new range of accommodation at what is to be called ‘The Lodge’. I’ll see you at the camp fire.

New to the festival this year is the luxury area of The Lodge, one of the most extensive luxury camping areas to be seen at any UK festival; a haven of peace & quiet away from the crowds. Complete with a funky range of accommodation The Lodge includes Kacoons, Luxury Bus, Campervans, Kip & Kit, Pod Village, Pop Up Hotel Room’s, Camel Camping, Tipi’s and Yurty’s!
The Lodge provide the highest quality facilities and give all guests a goody bag and a separate ‘community’ fenced off with secure campsite.
The Lodge also lays on clean, monitored toilets and hot showers, free parking in the private car park, chill out areas, friendly staff on call 24 hours a day and access to the backstage Green Room Bar overlooking the beautiful lake.

With the Emperors Fields and Campervan tickets selling out not long after going onsale the festival has decided to offer the ultimate festival experience for those festival-goers who like to camp it up in style and make more of a holiday out of their weekend!

Here’s an overview of The Lodge Camping options:

KACOON – is the very latest in capsule accommodation for festivals. Hand built from wood with an insulated and upholstered interior, guests can stay warm as its wind and watertight plus this means you can’t hear the snoring from the next tent. They are spacious enough to sleep two people in single beds and guests can easily stand up inside as its nearly 2 metres tall.
These come with a 12v solar powered electricity supply which is backed up by leisure batteries, so don’t forget your car adaptor for your phone charger.

LUXURY BUS – The ultimate in luxury, these buses come with all the gadgets you could ever need for your few days away from home. These include open deck with sunloungers, a four seater hot tub, A gas barbeque with seating for four under canopy, A sun couch with outside speakers & night lighting, fully controllable air conditioning & heating, a walk in wet room with power shower & flushing toilet. Not to mention a designer kitchen with micro-oven, gas hob & fridge, a bar with a 21 bottle champagne/wine chiller, an ice maker, a selection of champagne, wine & tumbler glasses, cocktail makers & spirit measures. (Drinks not included).
On top of this it provides a 36” Panasonic HD flatscreen TV with satellite free view, Sony PS3 with blu-ray disk player, Yamaha sound system with ipod docking station & surround sound speakers, Dimmable LED lighting, leather couches on both levels which convert to sleep four (one double bed and two single beds). Wardrobe and storage space supplied with duvets, throws & Egyptian cotton linen. Power points to charge mobile phones and laptops plus privacy tint windows with black out blinds

KIP & KIT– The Lodge’ KIP n KIT ‘offers one or two person tents already pitched, ready for your arrival. It’s as simple and easy as camping gets; complete with airbed, sleeping bag and torch …which is yours to take away!

POD VILLAGE – At the heart of the ‘The Lodge’ lies Pod Village – our private cabins that are as cute and classy as camping gets. Each pod comes pre decorated with solid floor & fitted carpet. With 3 cut out windows with sliding tinted acrylic lenses for light, ventilation and curtains for privacy at night. They are solar powered with indoor lights & electricity hook ups, all beds are raised off the floor and guests can choose between double or twin beds.

POP UP HOTEL ROOMS – ‘Emerge from your room totally refreshed and unruffled each and every time!’ This fantastic spacious hotel room in a field comes fully equipped with En-suite power shower, washbasin and toilet with water saving flush. Its fully air-conditioned with laminate wood effect flooring, slick lighting, built in 4ft double bed with crisp white linens, fresh white towels, luxury toiletries, kettle, cups and condiments, Thermal and sound insulation, fully secure and safe, flat screen TV/DVD (TV picture dependant to local reception quality), mini fridge and bistro table and 2 chairs. CAMEL CAMP: an elegant canvas nomadic tent, in the style of the Touareg tribe of North Africa. These traditional canvas homes are spacious, cool, and very classy. Great for relaxing, entertaining friends, or just chilling in, revellers just need to bring a sleeping bag.

TIPI’S – How do you fancy sleeping under canvas in true Sioux Indian style? All you need to do is arrive on site to find your tipi ready to move into, just relax, unpack and make yourself at home! 4, 6 or 10-man tipi pitched for your arrival.

YURTY – No need to set up and break down. Just turn up and relax for 4 days, then drive away when your Kendal Calling has finished! These little beauties are ingenious… and perfect for TWO people sharing. The Yurty is a perfect miniature Yurt it sleeps two people and comes with air mattresses. The floor space is fully carpeted.

the cribsThe Cribs are one of the biggest cult bands in the UK and are our Saturday night headliners.  Hailing from Wakefield, Yorkshire twin brothers Gary and Ryan Jarman and younger brother Ross Jarman are renowned for their combination of natural pop sensibility and love for rock n roll. Legendary ex-The Smiths and Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr is now a fully fledged member of the band. 
This internationally touring critically acclaimed band deliver their well written catchy songs including Hey ScenestersMens Needs and Our Bovine Public with unbelievable passion. This is guaranteed to be one hell of a live show!  The Cribs are only playing a few shows this summer ahead of going into the studio to produce their 5th studio album, and this is their only small festival headline slot too!
 
chase and statusTrue to our word of booking the best in dance music as well as world acclaimed bands, Kendal Calling HQ have confirmed one of the UKs finest electro producing duos Chase & Status as Friday night headliners.  Things are going from strength to strength for these guys: 2009 saw their fanbase and notoriety rise where they were promoted to major label vertigo / Mercury Records and with this they smashed into the top 10 in the UK singles chart with End Credits featuring 2011 BRIT award winner for Best British Solo Male – Plan B.
Over the past year they have been ripping up countless festivals and earned themselves numerous award nominations. Their second studio album, No More Idols charted at number two in the UK charts and they can cite Jay Z, Snoop Dogg and Pharrell as fans; Friday night is going to be mega!
 
Also on board are festival circuit regulars - The Whip, having recently toured with Babyshambles and British Sea Power at NMEs Weekender in Cambersands, this Oldham trio will be showcasing tracks from their 2008 X Marks Destination Album.Including the singles “Trash” and “Divebomb” which were featured on the Kitsune Maison Compilations 3 and 4 respectively. The Whip have also recently been commissioned to do remixes for bands such as Editors, Hadouken! and The Courteeners track “Fallowfield Hillbilly”.
 
2007 Mercury Prize nominee, Young Knives are a three-pronged vocal attack with catchy guitars and drums. This threesome are as eccentric as they are prolific with top 40 hits including the infectious The Decision, Terra Firma, Weekends and Bleak Days and Turn Tail the future is looking very bright for this quirky trio.
 
Confirmed for the Dance Tent is Nero; first coming into widespread attention with their monstrous bass banger remix of The Streets Blinded by the Light. This super producing duo have been turning heads at Radio 1 and 1Xtra and finding favour with Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Mistajam. With the recent release of the single Me and You, the future is looking bright for Nero and Kendal Calling can’t wait to provide a platform.
 
Middleman are a four-piece alternative band from Leeds who splice infectious song writing with driving guitar riffs, heavy beats, bass-lines and poetry-slammed vocals. Middleman are gaining notoriety rapidly and have been picked out as Ones to Watch by national radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and XFM.

After his crowd pleasing performance at last year’s festival, Mark Chadwick returns with the rest of the band in tow; Celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Levellers era defining album, Levelling the Land. Kendal Calling is pleased to say they will have the whole band taking to the stage to deliver some of the most iconic tracks from the early 90’s including chart favourites, One Way, Riverflow and Boatman.

Kendal Calling are excited to reveal a Northern festival exclusive acoustic performance with the legendary and charismatic frontman Tim Burgess and guitarist Mark Collins from The Charlatans. They’ve lived through the Madchester/Britpop eras and are still making wonderful indie-pop tunes to this day!
Expect a string of hits from their back catalogue including: The Only One I Know, One to another, My Beautiful Friend, Tellin’ Stories, North Country Boy to name a few, alongside their fresh new material.
 
There are not many places where you can experience 80’s, 90’s and naughties indie legends cosied up next to award winning beatboxers… But the fields of Kendal Calling is that place. Ladies and gentlemen, back by incredibly popular demand, Kendal Calling presents… Beardyman! One of the most sought after artists at Kendal Calling, Beardyman is fast becoming a legend in the fields. Since his debut in 2008 Kendal have been nudging him to come back every year. In 2009 his performance was immense; The dance tent was packed out with the biggest crowds Kendal Calling had seen in one place. 
 
Kendal Calling is also very pleased to announce king of funk and festival circuit regular Mr Scruff will be bringing his vast box of master-mixing tricks to light up the stage with his notoriously epic and quirky mixathons! Signed to the legendary label Ninja Tune, Mr Scruff is well known for his mammoth sets and is eager to take the Kendal calling crowds on a journey across musical genres, from jazz to break beat, funk to reggae, presenting a definitive odyssey in DJ prowess!
 
These first announcements are just the tip of the iceberg for what’s in store; with all the Main Stage headliners and the full Calling Out (new music) stage, Kaylied Tent (folk stage), Glow dance tent and five other stages line ups still to come; Kendal Calling 2011 is already shaping up to be an epic weekend with some of the finest UK and international artists to be showcased on the festival circuit. But Kendal Calling isn’t just about ambitious and cutting edge music; there are oodles of other activities and events going on throughout the weekend. Riding on the wave of the huge success of the Real Ale festival last year, Kendal Calling HQ are embarking on the tough task of sampling all the local ales to ensure that only the very best beverages are on offer for its return to this years festival! There is also the flamboyant and ludicrous Fancy Dress Saturday where all inhibitions and sanity are lost in a world of eccentricity, this year’s theme to be announced very soon…

Thursday Entry – This year Kendal Calling will be opening up the campsite a day early for all you keen festival goers to get pitched up super fast! Please note this is camping only plus the Village Green area, where a limited number of food outlets will be open plus an acoustic tent.

CAMPING OPTIONS:
Traditional festival camping – no frills, no extra cost and for the night owls amongst you! There is also a quiet camping area for those that like their beauty sleep. Included in ticket price
 
Emperors Fields – Back bigger and better than last year, this much improved area will have posh showers, toilets and a campfire as well as the added bonus of camping by your car! Adult price: £10 / Youth: 11-15: £5
Children 10 and under are FREE! – Please note this area is all quiet camping and ideal for families.
 
Campervan or Caravan fields – £45 – Park up, party on.
 
THE TRAVEL
Coach travel is available from several UK destinations (tbc) and is provided by Big Green Coach Company. There are pickups from Penrith train station – If you’re travelling by train then hop aboard the Kendal Calling Shuttle straight to the site, and back again!
