The magic in Surreal Park, Brazil, is real!

New artistic club/complex commanded by the renowned Renato Ratier had the public excited at the first events

Maybe you’ve already heard of it, maybe not. But far from here, there in Brazil, a new club [that’s not exactly a club, we’ll explain it in the end] was opened on december 26th. We’re talking about Surreal Park, an artistic complex that will go far beyond electronic music, but that started putting on some very special parties with great DJs. So, we decided to tell you a little about this place’s atmosphere and what you’ll find once you’re there for the first time — we guarantee it’s worth it!

The place

Different from traditional clubs, here we don’t have a closed, tiny space… it’s quite the opposite. The space in which Surreal Park was installed is a giant land with more than 90 thousand square meters, completely surrounded by nature, by the green of trees, lakes and hills. The parking lot is huge and right there you can already feel what’s about to come. The air is fresh, the music is already echoing and it’s already possible to see some tents that are part of the complex.

Right at the entrance

During the entrance line, you can feel that something different awaits you. 2 giant gorillas with about 3 meters of height are on each side ‘‘welcoming’’ you. It is the beginning of several artistic installations that you will come across throughout the place.

The first stage

Right ahead, we’re already on the first dancefloor: Raw Room. With wood floors and cabin, this stage esse palco was seen as an itinerant party throughout Brazil, the idea is to be an unpretentious “escape” to relax and listen to good music, hosting artists and sounds that flirt mainly with House, Minimal and similar lines. The idea is to welcome several local labels and collectives. Seas Label, Laguna Music, Sharp Movement and Shelter 47 have already passed through there. Some international artists who have joined the local labels include Yaya, Quest, Lamache and Dyed Soundorom.

Let the bells ring!

Further on, on the left, we can see the entrance to the Bells stage, a space essentially destined for Techno and heavier aspects of electronic music. It’s a huge, very well-architected dark shed, with minimalist lighting. In addition to Renato Ratier himself, other names that have passed through there are Hito, Paul Ritch, Radio Slave, Fedele, Wehbba and Bart Skils. All of this in the first 5 nights only. At dawn, some windows located at the back of the stage function as an entry for natural light creating a magnificent visual effect, also signaling that, in a few hours, the night will end, at 7 am.

The bars and green area

Leaving Bells on the left side, we can find a food court, self-service machines and one of the 4 bars located along the complex. If you choose to go out behind the stage, you’ll come across a huge mountainous green area and see the Nomad stage tent ahead. There, you can walk, find resting spaces, take pictures in some of the artistic installations and enjoy all of this connection that nature offers.

Welcome to Nomad

After a tour of the entire venue, we finally arrive at the third and most beautiful stage of all, Nomad. Around the dancefloor, carriages signal spaces for small groups to enjoy the night. A huge circus tent covers the dancefloor, referring to the gypsy world, its mystery and romanticism. It is a totally playful, colorful space that has the ability to awaken the imagination of everyone present there. The first nights passed through Nomad were Facundo Mohrr, Sébastien Léger, Rebolledo, Crazy P Soundsystem, HOSH, Agentes Of Time, WhoMadeWho, Biesmans, Frankey & Sandrino, Jan Blomqvist, Oostil, Fur Coat, Fantastic Man and Roland Clark. Not bad, right?

The final result

Let’s be simple and direct: it feels like we’re inside a festival! But it is not a festival, it’s an artistic complex that hosts electronic music nights, but which will also host conferences and other types of events, as it’s modular and can adapt to different formats. At dawn, the place becomes even more beautiful, it makes you feel like you’re in paradise, with the sun illuminating the green, the birds singing and the music’s vibration touching your soul. It’s certainly a place that every clubber needs to visit when passing through Brazil, with an atmosphere and a different vibe that is difficult to find anywhere else in the world, a truly surreal experience.

BPM Festival Brasil

On February 25th, 26th and 27th, Surreal Park will host the first edition of the BPM Festival in Brazil during Carnival. The lineup does not disappoint, with names like Carl Craig, Dubfire, Henrik Schwarz, Joris Voorn, Nicole Moudaber, Oxia, Popof, Sonja Moonear and others all present. If you have the opportunity to attend, don’t let it pass by!

Oostil: “One of the best places on earth”

Continuing its legacy as what the New York Times referred to as a “pilgrimage event on the global techno calendar,” Time Warp today, in partnership with long-term NYC collaborators Teksupport, announced the bill for its return to New York this Fall, following a two year hiatus. its new Brooklyn location will play host to two days of audiovisual technical immersion soundtracked by some of house and techno’s top talent.

Time Warp will showcase a mélange of underground heroes from around the world, including several who’ve become central pillars to the event and its community over its storied 27 year history. Global scene shaper and recent Prada collaborator Richie Hawtin reprises his headlining role—a duty he’s carried on with diligence since Time Warp’s 1995 Mannheim debut. Chilean iconoclast veteran Ricardo Villalobos makes a return as well, this time alongside longtime b2b partner and Tyrant co-founder Craig Richards. Villalobos remains a rare delicacy stateside, but thanks to his deep-rooted ties to the Time Warp and Teksupport families, fans have been able to witness his brilliance twice in New York the past seven years.

Âme, whose Time Warp legacy kicked off in 2007 brings a slice of Berlin house to the party. Second State owners Pan-Pot also represent Berlin, along with Ostgut Ton/Berghain figureheads Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann for a rare b2b—all three of whom were inducted into the family in 2012. Seth Troxler rounds out the list of historic talents to grace the roster. The political activist, multilabel head, and Lost Souls of Saturn member has been an annual fixture at Time Warp’s flagship Mannheim event since 2011.

Techno always takes center stage at Time Warp New York, with all sides of the spectrum covered by its all-star cast. On the melodic end, Afterlife stalwarts Adriatique are set to bring their expertise to the decks, while virtuoso Stephan Bodzin will bring a full hardware kit to the show. Industrial aficionados will enjoy performances by Paula Temple, Kobosil, and a live showing by Reinier Zonneveld. International superstar Nina Kraviz will serve up her signature high-tempo mix of techno and electro cuts, while KiNK will showcase his impressive penchant for improvisation on his array of keyboards and synths.

Time Warp’s communal ethos extends to the cities it touches, as such, New York talent will be spotlighted with local mainstays DESNA, Avision, Shahar, mink, and O.BEE on display.
Since its 2014 debut in New York, Time Warp has made the city a second home with local impresario Teksupport as its chosen partner. Its 2019 return saw fans gathered from across the nation to celebrate 25 years of Time Warp, which also marked the first large-scale underground dance music event to happen in the Bronx. The results were massive, ushering in a new era for the global brand and a bright chapter for American house and techno enthusiasts. Following a forced two-year break since, fans can expect peak energy for its grand 2021 return.

Teksupport has produced some of New York’s most unique and exciting parties of recent years. They have scoured the city to unearth new locations, throwing parties in submarine factories, navy yards, subterranean ballrooms and industrial warehouses, building a reputation for pairing raw spaces with world-class event production. Their 2021 summer season played a role in reasserting the city’s prominence as an underground dance music mecca, hosting the likes of DJ Tennis, The Martinez Brothers, Sven Väth, Guy Gerber, Dixon, Perel, and more.
Time Warp’s return to New York will follow its prodigal return to Mannheim on October 30 2021 before heading south to its Brazil HQ of São Paulo. Head to their website for more information on their international events and to sign up for tickets.

Artist(s): Fletch, Jean Pierre, Franco Cinelli

Title: Actin’ Up EP

Label: Pakate

Release Date: June 18th 2021

Catalogue Number: PAKATE001

Tracklisting

A1. Fletch – Actin’ Up (Original Mix)

A2. Fletch – Want Me (Original Mix)

B1. Fletch – Actin’ Up (Franco Cinelli Remix)

B2. Fletch – Want Me (Jean Pierre Remix)

Born and bred New Yorker Jean Pierre is stepping out with his own brand new label, Pakate. The vinyl-only outlet kicks off with a fantastic first EP from FLETCH featuring remixes from Pierre himself and Franco Cinelli.

This exciting new label will be an outlet for Jean and other friends to serve up mature and minimal sounds focused around unique designs and powerful grooves. Dealing in heady underground sounds that also work on larger dance floors, the label comes after Pierre has spent 15 years entrenched in the electronic scene. This is his way to carefully curate his own music exactly how he wants to, with three releases already lined up for 2021.

The first one is from FLETCH, a red hot UK talent who has released on the likes of Kaluki and Whippin’ Records. His opening tune ‘Actin Up’ is a slick and slippery minimal groove with real depth and freaky sound designs that make it pop. ‘Want Me’ then hits harder, with loopy house drums and squelchy synths all bubbling away beneath soulful female vocal sounds and cosmic synths.

The first fine remix is from France Cinelli who takes ‘Actin Up’ super deep, with punching kicks and rolling bass that gets you in a state of hypnosis., Closing out the package is a Jean Pierre remix of ‘Want Me’ that shows off his ability to lay down stripped back but compelling house grooves with deft sound design and a freaky atmosphere.

This is a standout first EP that perfectly sets the scene for what is sure to become a vital new label from this American mainstay.
