PJ Harvey, Sigur Ros and more announced for NOS Primavera Festival

NOS Primavera Sound has released the full line-up for its fifth edition. After announcing the presence of French duo Air, authors of remarkable work such as “Moon Safari” or the original soundtrack to “The Virgin Suicides”, the festival reveals the names that will be at the Parque da Cidade in Porto, between June 9th and 11th.

Among the confirmed acts are such stand-outs as rock icon PJ Harvey and the dreamy experimental rock of Icelandic band Sigur Rós, besides Brian Wilson in a special performance of “Pet Sounds”, the chief pop oeuvre of the 20th century.

Added to these, are names which are key to understanding the most current music: the dream pop of Americans Beach House, the return to pop by Animal Collective, the post rock of Explosions In The Sky, the showcase of the latest album by German supergroup Moderat, Deerhunter led by Bradford Cox, Ty Segall and the Muggers’ rock’n’roll steamroller or Julia Holter, author of one of 2015’s most impressive albums.

As usual, the festival also saves some room for acts born in the nineties. The return to the stage of mythical hardcore band Drive Like Jehu, the always fit Dinosaur Jr., the instrumental and untethered rock of Tortoise, Mudhoney’s electrical discharge, the noise metal of the legendary Unsane, out rock pioneers Loop or the live “life insurance” policy that is Shellac are among the highlights of NOS Primavera Sound 2016.

Some names which are very much current will also be at the Parque da Cidade. The hip hop of one of the MCs of the moment, Freddie Gibbs, Savages’ battle rock, the synthpop of the mighty Chairlift, the ethylic odes of Titus Andronicus, Dan Bejar on board Destroyer to showcase the recent “Poison Season”, the emotive ball of Kiasmos, the Portuguese cult band Linda Martini, Parquet Courts’ post-punk aromas, Holly Herndon’s experimentalism, or the jazz tinged electronica of Floating Points are some of the hippest names in this edition.

The long list doesn’t end here and continues to showcase names filled with substance and quality: pop seen form a different perspective by Wild Nothing, Car Seat Headrest, Roosevelt, Autolux, Empress Of or Manel, the guitars of Protomartyr, Royal Headache, Neil Michael Hagerty & the Howling Hex or Algiers, djs Fort Romeau and The Black Madonna, the experimental electropop of Sensible Soccers, and electronic alter-ego of João Vieira with the project White Haus, the refined simplicity of Cass McCombs, BEAK>’s kraut rock, the psychedelia of Bardo Pond or the obscure sounds of Mueran Humanos, round off a wide ranging and diverse line-up.

The National, Mogwai, Kendrick Lamar plus more for Optimus Primavera Sound

We are pretty excited to let our Summer Festival Guide fans know that the Optimus Primavera Sound lineup is now complete with The National, Mogwai, Kendrick Lamar, Pixies and more announced today!

Among all the confirmed names, we reinforce the presence of American band The National, the Californian rapper Kendrick Lamar and the legendary and influential Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso.

The first festival shows for newly reformed British band Slowdive, New Yorkers Television with their master piece “Marquee Moon”, Spoon’s effervescent pop, who have a new record, the third reincarnation of Slint claiming their crucial role in the appearance of slowcore and the presentation of the new record by Scottish band Mogwai are also added to this edition’s line-up.
Current names arrive at Optimus Primavera Sound to showcase their more recent work: Nicolas Jaar’s new project, Darkside, Danish artist Trentemøller, with his melancholy fusion of indie and electronica, the Haim sisters with the recently acclaimed phenomenon “Days Are Gone”, and the fiery electronica of !!! (chk chk chk) and St. Vincent with a new self-titled album that proves, once again, that there is a great gap between conventional pop and the sonic fusion created and reinvented by the New Yorker.

A true heterogenic mix of musical styles is going to invade the city of Porto: the post-rock of the Canadian band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Charles Bradley’s soul, the intimate sound of Rodrigo Amarante, or noisy British band Loop are some of the names that compose an eclectic and varied line-up.

Also, in the national landscape, we find bands with several musical references. Lisbon band You Can’t Win Charlie Brown will come to Optimus Primavera Sound with “Diffraction/Refraction”, a more challenging and sophisticated album than “Chromatics”, where vocal harmonies and the constant dialogue between folk and electronica are deepened. Also Os Da Cidade, a band that joins António Zambujo, Ricardo Cruz, João Salcedo and Miguel Araújo Jorge, promise to reinvent some of the traditional Portuguese sounds to cover them with a personal and delicate touch. HHY & The Macumbas, a project led by Jonathan Uliel Saldanha, will take their electrifying dub rhythms to the Parque da Cidade, for an extra sensorial experience, while Torto showcase, the hungry instrumental trio, in a fusion of guitar, bass and drums invites to a bold stroll outside each person’s “comfort bubble”.

The latter are now joined by an extensive list of artists who will play on the multiple stages of the Parc del Fòrum from 29th to 31st May. Arcade Fire to headline Barcelonas Primavera Sound Festival

Arcade Fire will be part of the line up at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona with a concert that will be their only performance in Spain next year. The Canadian band has become one of the most popular in the world without ever losing sight of their identity or style.

The band will present their fourth album "Reflektor", a record that has been preceded by an unusual marketing campaign including actions on the streets, cryptic messages and secret concerts under a pseudonym. This new album, produced by James Murphy from both LCD Soundsystem and the influential label DFA, marks a significant change in the sound of the band, that moves away from epic and dark sounds to embrace disco rhythms and a certain dose of new wave in a large part of their tracks.

The name Arcade Fire appeared yesterday Monday on a large format poster on Portal de l’Àngel, a main street in the centre of Barcelona without any warning from the organisation of the festival. This follows the same line that Arcade Fire have used to release the details of their latest album. Throughout the day the mystery was intense and the news spread quickly on the social networks. With the official confirmation of this band a second name joins the programme of the next edition of Primavera Sound, that will also include the American band Neutral milk Hotel.

On another note, for the second year running Heineken will be the main sponsor of the Barcelona festival, which will celebrate its fourteenth edition from the 29th to 31st May on its usual site, the Parc del Fòrum. The full festival ticket is on sale at 160€ and from 8th January the price will be 175€.
