Since the mid-90s, the legendary Bristolian three-piece has been shaping the musical landscape, capturing the zeitgeist with the distinguished sound of debut 'Dummy' and the self-titled sophomore album. In 2008, Portishead returned with 'Third' and an exciting avant-garde approach, once more challenging the boundaries of contemporary music.

The Melt!Selektor Stage as well as residentEllen Allien and her Bpitch crew will join us once more while the directional house imprint, Innvervisions, will celebrate its first special with label bosses Âme (DJ-Set) and Dixon plus Mano Le Tough, Marcus Worgull, Recondite (live), Kim Ann Foxman (DJ-Set) and more.

Established acts like Tricky, James Murphy and Simian Mobile Disco and newcomers Ruen Brothers and ABBY amongst the names revealed today, joining the exceptional collection of acts set to perform at the 16th edition of Melt! Festival.

Adding more weight to this year's Melt! Festival line-up, we're thrilled to announce an appearance by Tricky. The 'godfather of trip hop' will present us with his brand-new record, False Idols, which sees its release in May. James Murphy, the mastermind behind LCD Soundsystem, will also get behind the DJ booth in Ferropolis to win over the crowd with one of his acclaimed sets.

Also, making their first appearance at Melt! this year is German three-piece Sizarr, performing their debut album. Next up, a twosome who are no strangers to City of Iron, Simian Mobile Disco. After their celebrated stage show in 2010, the duo will get back behind the decks this time.  Siriusmo will also make a welcome return to Ferropolis this year, joining the Melt!Selektor Stage line-up.

First Acts announced for Germanys Melt Festival

Melt! Festival, which takes place from 19 to 21 July, announces the first wave of acts for 2013 with 60+ artists to perform on the peninsula of Ferropolis close to Gräfenhainichen.

It's been almost seven years since The Knife have released their last album Silent Shout. Now the Swedish siblings are back with Shaking The Habitual and an exclusive performance at Melt! 2013. After having sold out their European tour within hours, the electro duo will play their only festival show in Ferropolis.

On their debut album, An Awesome Wave, Alt-J bring together dubstep, hip hop and folk influences, a bold mixture which won them the prestigious Mercury Prize. This summer, we'll be witness to yet another smashing live performance. With his laid back post-dubstep arrangements, James Blake is also keen on approaching genres open-minded and with a little twist. At Melt! Festival, he'll present us with his sophomore album. In addition, the New York-based rapper Azealia Banks will perform her only show in Germany in Ferropolis this year. Further acts to appear at Melt! for the first time are Solomun and Flying Lotus.

The Knife

For the fourth time, Modeselektor will curate the Melt!Selektor Stage. As a very special highlight, Modeselektor will get behind the decks together with Apparat to give us a glimpse of the new Moderat album. Also taking over our stage at the Melt! beach are Mount Kimbie, Blawan and Pariah's new live project Karenn, Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum live under the guise of Jets, Ben UFO, Otto Von Schirach, Fantastic Mr Fox, Bambounou, Sinkane, Mykki Blanco and Zebra Katz. Further acts will be announced soon.

Woodkid, Kettcar, Django Django, Owen Pallett (formerly known as Final Fantasy),Everything Everything and Daughter are amongst the first indie acts to get on stage at Melt! Festival.

Again, our line-up not only features Melt! residents but up and coming hotshots as well. Alongside promising newcomers such as Churches, Disclosure, King Krule or LaingDJ Koze will be part of the bill with his new solo album, while SBTRKT will get behind the DJ booth this time. Henrik Schwarz & Band is also part of the line-up as well as Todd Terje &Lindstrøm. Henrik Schwarz and Âme will conquer the stage with a new live project under the moniker of Schwarzmann.

The Berlin-based electro label Get Physical will take over the Sleepless Floor with a label special and the following acts: M.A.N.D.Y., Wankelmut, Catz 'N Dogz, Andhim and Smash TV (live).

Of course, it wouldn't be a proper festival without Ellen Allien's Bpitch crew ringing in the final hours at our nonstop stage with a Bpitch Special. We're also glad to have the Crosstown Rebels with us, celebrating 10 years of label history with a 'Rebel Rave' at the Big Wheel Stage: Damian Lazarus, Art Department, Jamie Jones, and further special guests are scheduled to appear.

Further high-class acts for this year's Melt! Festival, which will feature more than 120 acts on 6 stages, will be announced shortly.

Melt Festival add more acts

Fringe Events 2011
Last year, we attempted a first approach with a workshop held by Modeselektor. This year, we have even more to offer. From 16th to 17th July, free workshops (e.g. w/ Ostgut DJ Tobias Freund) and lectures (e.g. w/ Karhard Architektur, architects of Berlin’s Berghain as well as Bauhaus representative Burghard Duhm) take place, establishing a connection between electronic music, Melt!, Bauhaus, and art in general. In addition, Melt! festivalgoers have the opportunity to visit the Bauhaus exhibition for a reduced price of EUR 4. Signing up isn’t necessary. First come, first serve. Shuttle buses will be provided taking you to Dessau and back. To check out the entire programme, please go to our website. We will even extend our collaborations: Melt! Festival curates a stage at Farbfest Dessau, which takes place on the Bauhaus grounds as well as Dessau University. The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble is our first confirmed act for this event on 3rd September. We’re also looking forward to opening Intro Kneipe at Orangerie. From Friday to Sunday, the magazine will present all of its pop cultural facets. The perfect way to take a break in between acts. Besides interviews with performing artists and lectures, Intro’s editors picked out a variety of films and organised various book readings. For further info, click here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/intro_kneipe). Melt! also goes sport this year. Together with Elbufercamp, we have a bike as well as a dragon boat rental ready for you. For further info and to sign up, click here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/news/915459648/das-melt-wird-sportlich)

New Confirmations
For the third time, Editors will perform in Ferropolis. In 2005, the band performed in Ferropolis for the first time presenting their debut The Back Room in the sunny afternoon. Since then, their careers took off. In 2011, Editor are about to bring us all their hits from their debut to their 2009 album In This Light And On This Evening. We also have Architecture in Helsinki on board. With their playful synth sounds, and their unconventional use of instruments like glockenspiel, tuba, xylophone, recorder and tap dance shoes as a rhythmic element, Architecture in Helsinki truly stick out of the crowd. Also confirmed are Le Corps Mince de Françoise, the Icelandic combo Retro Stefson, the Australian DJ duo Bag Raiders as well as the London-based trio Is Tropical. Techno grandmaster Tobi Neumann, Andreas Dorau and Kuriose Naturale joined our line-up as well. Before and after Melt! acts conquer our various stages, we have our lovely changeover DJ and party posse ready for you: Fieber-Tanzparty, Revolver Club, Team Recorder, Fryzeit, Radio & Fernseh, Voodoohop, Karrera Klub, King Kong Kicks and Trashpop feat. Wolke und Timid Tiger. For further info on our changeover DJs, click here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/news/3207914128/die-changeover-und-party-posse). Unfortunately, some acts did cancel on us. Matt And Kim, Tom Vek, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros as well as Duchess Says won’t be able to attend this year’s Melt! Festival.

Running Order & Melt! App
Our running order is also ready, which can be downloaded right here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/acts) as well as our new and improved Melt! App 2011. Find all the Melt! info you need before and more importantly during Melt! Festival. So that you don’t have to use your mobile Internet connection too frequently, all data will be saved on your smart phone. Should there be any changes in our timetable, the app will inform you immediately. Of course, you are also able to put together your very own running order. Just mark the artists you want to see. To download the app, click here (http://itunes.apple.com/app/melt-2011/id445361830?mt=8). A new feature of our Melt! App 2011 is the friends finder. You receive an individual ID that you can give out to your friends to add. You will be able to see where your friends are at. In addition, we have our FAQs available for you when needed, a bus schedule as well as a map of the festival site and the camping area.

Melt! Anthem
Here is a link to  this years Melt! anthem (http://www.meltfestival.de/hymne), which is available for free. We won’t tell you who wrote it, but we go way back. Another clue might be our slogan “U Melt! My Heart”.

Melt! Pre-Party
The Audiolith crew’s parking lot raves have been an integral part of the Melt! cosmos since always. They had always been the perfect but unofficial opening party of Melt! Festival till last year. Then the boys officially came on board. Since the pre-party got bigger and bigger, we simply moved the debauchery from the parking lot to the Intro Zelt so we wouldn’t disturb the neighbours too much. In 2011, the pre-party will once again be held on Thursday night (14th July) with an obvious Audiolith presence. Frittenbude will conquer the stage together with Egotronic, Mediengruppe Telekommander are about to perform songs off their new album (a Audiolith/Staatsakt collaboration), various Audiolith DJs will fuel Melt! madness among the crowd and a secret special guest is also going to show up. Once again, the pre-party’s capacity is limited. Like last year, you have to pay a EUR 5 cover charge (incl. fees), which will be partially donated to charity. Tickets for our pre-party are only available as etickets here (www.meltfestival.de/tickets) in combination with a festival ticket only.
Ticket holders, who want to enjoy our Melt! pre-party, should also act fast as well and buy their tickets here. There might not be any tickets available on location. last year’s pre-party was sold out. So if you want make sure that you actually get in, we urge you to buy your ticket in advance.

Melt! Train
Our hotel train rides again! Last year, our beds on wheels option for Melt! premiered. In 2011, a train will ride once more to the festival site in Ferropolis as part of our environmental project M!Eco. The last 100 Melt! Train tickets are also still available here; for ticket holders and those of you who don’t have tickets yet. This is your last chance to get hold of a festival ticket!

In collaboration with Cool-Tours ( www.cool-tours.de) and MixeryFunTravel (http://www.mixery-fun-travel.de/), we charter a Euro Express train, which will depart from Cologne. The train is stopping directly in front of the festival grounds. The best thing about it: every passenger will have his or her own private bed on Melt! Train including sanitary arrangements for four days. To assure that only Hotel Train passengers have access to their departments, special wristbands will be handed out.

One compartment of the train is also equipped with its own DJ and a bar run by Cool-Tours. The bar will be open during the journey as well as during the day on location. New this year: Cool-Tours offers daily breakfast for EUR 19, which can be ordered in advance or on arrival. Train attendants will care for your needs the entire journey.

Return journey plus four overnight stays will cost you EUR 99 (per person, festival ticket not included). To guarantee that you will be booked in a compartment with all your friends (up to six), one of you has to book single tickets for all the others. So if you book a compartment with six beds this will cost you EUR 594.

Book your ticket via Cool-Tours here (http://www.festivalreisen.de/index.php?cat=c16_Melt%21.html). Further info on eco-friendly travel options to Melt! will be posted here ( http://www.meltfestival.de/de/melt_reise) soon.

After Kings of Convenience’s wonderful acoustic concert in 2010, González is about to ring in the last festival day with delightful feel good atmosphere in 2011 – continuing the tradition.

Patrick Wolf also found his way into this year’s line-up. In 2009, he made the clouds disappear with his extraordinary performance, and in 2011, he will make everyone jump for joy with his new album. The Californian Cold War Kids and the British Noah & The Whale will also perform songs off their 2011 albums. We Have Band, on the other hand, keep on proving that they are true pros on stage with their debut WHB.

richie hawtinIn terms of electronic music, we have also something to offer: Richie Hawtin is now part of our line-up, joined by Chase & Status and Fake Blood, who will perform live for the first time at Melt!. Also performing live: Azari & III as well as Nôze, who will arrive with his band. Addison Groove completes the Melt! Selektor Stage’s line-up.

With Matt And Kim as well as The Hundred In The Hands, we welcome two duos from New York that will definitely score with their energetic live shows. These New Puritans rather dedicate themselves to experimental soundscapes. With the Danish When Saints Go Machine, we also have fantastic newcomers on board, The Sound Of Arrows present us with fairy tale synth pop, and Crocodiles conquer the stage with a rough version of Dandyism. Dirty guitar sounds are the legendary Berlin band Mutter as well as Duchess Says’ forte.

Melt! Anthem
You should also mark the 18th of April in your calendar. At noon, we will upload this year’s Melt! anthem to our website (http://www.meltfestival.de/hymne), which will be available for free. We won’t tell you who wrote it, but we go way back. Another clue might be our slogan “U Melt! My Heart”.

Groove Presents
This year, we are also looking forward to a fantastic premiere: our media partner, Groove, curates 24 straight hours at Sleepless Floor for the first time. Under the banner of Groove Presents, the German magazine for electronic music and club culture brings us established and upcoming labels and their artists. Uncanny Valley are the first to arrive with Jacob Korn (live), The Moroders, and Albrecht Wasserleben. Wolf + Lamb send Gadi Mizrahi, No Regulars, Maayan Nidam and Miss Fitz. The Smallville delegation is comprised of Christopher Rau, Smallpeople aka Dionne & Julius Steinhoff. Last but not least, Stroboscopic Artefacts is represented by Lucy, Edit Select, and Dadub (live).

Melt!

By the way: last year’s pre-party was sold out.

In collaboration with Cool-Tours ( http://www.cool-tours.de/) and MixeryFunTravel (http://www.mixery-fun-travel.de/), we charter a Euro Express train, which will depart from Cologne.

Book your ticket via Cool-Tours here ( http://www.festivalreisen.de/index.php?cat=c16_Melt%21.html). Further info on eco-friendly travel options to Melt! will be posted here (http://www.meltfestival.de/de/melt_reise) soon.

Beady Eye, Crystal Castles and more for Melt Festival 2011

beady eyeBeady Eye
Describing the highly anticipated Beady Eye debut, Liam Gallagher certainly raised the bar high. Different Gear, Still Speeding is filled with songs „as good as Definitely Maybe,“ he told the NME. Yet, what the title promises is definitely what you get. After Oasis split in 2009, Liam Gallagher and his band mates Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock simply had to get back in the studio, taking it a step further by using the newly formed Beady Eye as their creative outlet. Compared to Oasis, Beady Eye might only be a four-piece, yet the band’s in-your-face attitude is all the more rock’n’roll. The album’s edgy, rough and pure, conquering the next level of Britpop on its way. You get the anthem-like classics („The Roller”), fast forward smash hits („Four Letter Word”), and such retro pieces as „World Outside My Room“ in 60s guise on top. If that’s not enough proof for you, wait till you see them live.

modeselektorModeselektor present Melt! Selektor Stage
Our Melt! Selektor Stage is taking shape with Modeselektor watching over the goings-on in all their manifold glory. After their spectacular live set together with Bonaparte in 2010, the Berlin-based Gernot and Szary will top last year’s show with a never before seen and heard techno supergroup. Under the name of A.T.O.L., Modeselektor will get behind the turntables together with Marcel Dettmann and Shed (Ostgut Ton) to present their vision of techno to the Melt! crowd live. Also joining the stage’s line-up, which is curated by Modeselektor in close collaboration: Nicolas Jaar live, who’s fanbase stretches from techno to indie lovers. With a new album in tow, Apparat Band joined the bill. So did Jamie Woon, Rusko, Siriusmo, Anstam, Cosmin TRG, Phon.o and Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka. A perfect addition to the already confirmed SBTRKT, Gold Panda, Sizarr Soundsystem and Housemeister. A line-up to be proud of.

Ostgut Ton Special
Ostgut Ton, Berghain and Panoramabar’s in-house label is back. Last year, label brought its manifold soundscapes to the Sleepless Floor going quite a bit back to the roots. Even in the beginnings of Melt!, many of the label’s DJs coined the sound of Ferropolis. In 2011, this will be no different. Besides Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, Marcel Fengler as well as Barker & Baumecker (live) will travel to Ferropolis to conquer the Big Wheel Stage this year. In the spirit of Ostgut Ton, the four acts are about to present the genre diversity the electro label, which celebrated its fifth anniversary last year, is known for. From the power station to the steel giants – Melt! is looking forward to a reunion with Ostgut Ton.

White Lies and Digitalism join Melt! Festival lineup

M!Eco
Once again, the environment will be one of our most important headliners this year. In 2010, we already started our environmental endeavours with M!Eco. Together with the Green Music Initiative, we devoloped various projects to reduce CO2 emissions. Several bus and train offers as well as our hotel train, which rode to Ferropolis for the first time in 2010, made it possible that many festivalgoers decided to leave their cars at home. In 2011, we want to continue our projects. This year, energy-saving measures will be on our agenda as well! Further info will be available soon.
To keep you posted on our newest projects and further developments, we launched our M!Eco website today. On our site, you are not only able to read about our plans and project partners. You are also able to find out what each festivalgoer can do to reduce CO2 emissions and make the festival more ecofriendly, so we can say: we are one step closer to our green goal.

White Lies
Post-punk meets dark wave with legitimate ambitions for stadium rock. With their latest single “Bigger Than Us”, the London-based White Lies presented us with a smashing anthem at the beginning of 2011 already. The band made quite an effort to up the ante production-wise in order to set the tone for the enthusiastic to melancholic lyrics. By releasing Rituals, the band around singer Harry McVeigh brought us the follow-up to their debut, which definitely keeps its promise.

digitalism melt festival 2011Digitalism (live)
No doubt, Digitalism is about to become a Melt! resident. Even before the actual festival the Hamburg duo Jens “Jence” Moelle and Ismail “Isi” Tüfekci join the Berlin-based Melt! Klub Weekender with squealing synth sounds, brute breaks, and belling bass lines. In Ferropolis, Digitalism has been part of Melt! Festival’s line-up three time. Thanks to brand-new material, the 2010 single “Blitz” as well as the uberhit “Zdarlight”, Digitalism will certainly fuel Melt! madness for the fourth time.

More Acts and News
With The Naked And Famous, we may have hit the spot. It doesn’t happen too often that a band is highly praised even before it releases its debut. We are very much excited about the New Zealanders’ live performance on their stopover in Saxony-Anhalt.

Not least since their celebrated Melt! premiere, the follow-up shows – supporting Broken Bells and Kele for instance – and their appearance at Dockville, Sizarr are officially Melt! Festival’s new favourite. Therefore, we’re about to present all the factes of the band, namely playing live on Gemini Stage and DJing on Melt! Selektor Stage as Sizarr Soundsystem.

We see acts like Katy B, Crystal Fighters, Clock Opera, Totally Enourmous Extinct Dinosaurs and SBTRKT progressing on an international level, which is why we want to prominently present them at Melt! 2011. More promising newcomers will join them soon.
Of course, Melt! 2011 would only be half as good without the lovely indie boys and girls. After all these years, the indie legends of Les Savy Fav are finally joining our line-up. Also adding to our bill: Junip, Bodi Bill, Console, Metronomy, Calvin Harris, Everything Everything, Little Dragon. This just in: with our second announcement, we only made it half-way through our programme. By the time, we’re done with announcing acts, Melt! will have six stages with over 120 artists performing in July.

Melt! Festival’s also known for its many co-operations with other artists. We’re not only looking forward to Modeselektor curating Melt! Selektor Stage for two days in a row and the labels Live At Robert Johnson as well as Bpitch Control taking over Sleepless Floor. We also have the Total Confusion party at Big Wheel up our sleeves and an additional special celebrating the legendary Detroit techno label Planet E with label boss Carl Craig DJing back to back with Radio Slave – joined by label mate Loco Dice who we announced last time.

Many festivalgoers will be pleased to hear about our continuing co-operation with Ostgut Ton, the label which is connected to Berlin’s Berghain like no other. The label’s about to take over Big Wheel Stage for four hours on Sunday – yes, there’s a Sunday at Big Wheel, folks. We will soon announce the Ostgut line-up, no worries. Big Wheel Sunday will also see Guy Gerber, who decided to work with P.Diddy on his new album, conquering the stage.

Last but not least, we planned a small but nice Dial Records homage at Big Wheel on Saturday. The full line-up reads as follows: Lawrence, John Roberts, Pawel & RNDM and Redshape presents Palisade (live).
