Pet Shop Boys set for Bingley Music Live + more announced

Bingley Music Live festival may just have secured the festival coup of 2014. The 16,000 capacity, 3 day festival in Yorkshire has the legendary Pet Shop Boys, who have sold over 50 million records worldwide, as one of their headliners this summer. Pet Shop Boys have only announced 5 UK shows for 2014 and the Yorkshire festival is not only one of the dates, but the only festival.

Headlining the other nights will be chart topping hip-hop artist Example and Yorkshire heroes Shed Seven in their home county as they approach their 25th anniversary. Three times Brit Award winning Gaz Coombes of Supergrass will be appearing as Special Guest.

This year, Bingley Music Live has a more electic range of artists and genres than ever before and promises the most complete lineup in its history.

Highlights include Gorgon City and MNEK (fresh from their joint top five smash ‘Ready For Your Love’), the phenomenal Naughty Boy and festival favourites Simon and Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene.

Singer songwriters Chloe Howl and John Lennon McCullagh will join the lineup. Chloe was nominated in the BBC Sound of 2014 and Brit Awards Critics Choice, while John was signed to the new 359 Music label by Alan McGee, the man responsible for Oasis and 2013 headliners Primal Scream.

The Pet Shop Boys are the most successful UK electronic act and duo of all time, with a career spanning over 30 years. They have clocked up no less than 42 Top 30 singles and 22 Top 10 UK singles hits.

The six times Grammy nominees have won three Brit Awards, including the 2009 award for outstanding Contribution to Music Award. The Ivor Novello Outstanding Contribution to Pop Music and the 2013 Q Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music are just two more of the band’s many accolades.

Hits include ‘West End Girls’ (voted Song of the Decade by six million BBC listeners), ‘It’s a Sin’, ‘Go West’, ‘Always on My Mind’, ‘Rent’, ‘Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money)’ and the Dusty Springfield accompanied classic, ‘What Have I Done to Deserve This?’.

Example returns to BML after first appearing in 2010 and is the first artist to ever return as a headliner. Elliot Gleave (his real name) hit the big time with his second album 'Won't Go Quietly' which peaked at number 4 on the UK album charts. This saw two top 10 singles – 'Won't Go Quietly' and 'Kickstarts'.

Yorkshire’s favourite sons, Shed Seven, tore up the Britpop scene in the mid-90s and amassed no less than fifteen Top 40 singles and four Top 40 albums, acquiring a loyal and dedicated fanbase along the way. In 1996, singer Rik Witter and the band had more hits than any other act that year in the UK! Anthems ‘Getting Better’, ‘Going For Gold’ and ‘Chasing Rainbows’ have stood the test of time.

The very best of new talent is represented with acts like Bipolar Sunshine, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Eliza and the Bear, The Wytches and We are Catchers, recently signed to the Arctic Monkeys label.

Night Engine will put in an appearance, having supported the Kaiser Chiefs and The 1975 last year, enjoying comparisons to Bowie, as will D/C and the Mamas and Papas and Everley Brothers inspired Champs. Etta Bond, the first signing to Labrinth’s new Odd Child label, is yet another of the artists set to do business in 2014 alongside Joel Compass. Notorious DJ team Ultimate Power and respected music journalist and DJ, Simon Price, will be DJing during some of the main stage changeovers. Many more artists will be released in the coming weeks.

This year's event is to be held on 29, 30 and 31 August. It’s the North's last big party of the summer and is incredible value for money at £49 plus booking fee for the three-day festival – over four times cheaper than some of the region’s festivals. Previous acts have included Nile Rodgers and Chic, Primal Scream, Jake Bugg, Calvin Harris, Nero, Editors, Cribs, DJ Fresh and Doves.

Wilko Johnson to play Bingley Music Live

The final line up announcement of Bingley Music Live has revealed that Wilko Johnson has been added to the bill for this year’s edition of the festival.

The former Dr Feelgood guitarist was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer in January. Fortunately he has remained healthy enough to undertake a series of live performances over the summer. This includes an appearance on the Main Stage at Myrtle Park on Saturday 31st August.

Since the 1970s the singer, guitarist and songwriter has been credited for his enormous contribution to the British rhythm and blues scene, firstly in Dr Feelgood and later as a member of Ian Dury and The Blockheads.

Widely hailed as one of the founding influences of the punk movement, Wilko conceded in a recent interview with The Guardian that his illness has lent him fresh perspective and given rise a particularly fertile creative period, admitting: 'I still feel like a hero on stage'.

Being a national rock'n'roll hero is what Wilko does best and Bingley can revel in Wilko’s distinctive choppy guitar sound and famous ‘duck walk’ one final time.

Wilko will be joined by the likes of Primal Scream, Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, The Human League, The Cribs, The Fratellis, The Neville Staple Band, Tinchy Stryder and Katy B during the much loved, three day Yorkshire festival which runs between Friday, 30 August and Sunday, 1 September.

Bingley Music Live Gets Loaded

This year’s Bingley Music Live is quickly gathering pace with Theme Park, The Dunwells, The Dirty Rivers, Kat Men, China Rats, and Dave McPherson set to play. The announcement follows hot on the heels of last week’s confirmation of CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers.

They will appear at Myrtle Park between August 30th-September 1st alongside Primal Scream, The Cribs, The Human League, The Wonder Stuff, The Fratellis, Lucy Spraggan, Charlie Brown, The Lake Poets, The Temperance Movement, Loveable Rogues, Summer Camp, The Struts, The Electric Swing Circus, Natasha Haws, Rose and the Howling North, and Holy Moly and the Crackers. With an ever-expanding line up of quality acts, this year’s festival once again offers a truly eclectic mix of music; all at the purse-pleasing price of £45 (+ booking fee) for a three day ticket.

Chic feat Nile Rodgers set for Bingley Music Live

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that the undisputed champions of disco funk CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers will be bringing their unique and revolutionary sound to this year’s Bingley Music Live.

They will appear at Myrtle Park between August 30th-September 1st alongside Primal ScreamThe CribsThe Human League, The Wonder Stuff, The FratellisLucy SpragganCharlie BrownThe Lake PoetsThe Temperance MovementLoveable Rogues, Summer CampThe StrutsThe Electric Swing Circus,Natasha HawsRose and the Howling North, and Holy Moly and the Crackers.

With an ever-expanding line up of impressive acts – with more to be announced next week – this year’s festival once again offers a truly eclectic musical mix; all at the easy-on-the-pocket price of £45 (+ booking fee) for a three day ticket.

Nicknamed ‘The Hitmaker’ Nile Rodgers’ biography as a musician, composer, arranger and arguably one of the world’s most influential producers, reads like a who’s who of contemporary music from the 70s right through to the current singles chart number 1 – Daft Punk’s Get Lucky. He’s collaborated with Luther Vandross, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, David Bowie, INXS, Duran Duran, Grace Jones and Madonna (to name a few), as well as being name checked by a multitude of other esteemed pop, RnB and hip hop stars for his significant contribution to our recent musical history.

Nile Rodgers

Yet it’s the enduring disco hits such as Le FreakI Want Your Love, Everybody Dance and Good Times that will undoubtedly generate a rapturous reception from Bingley’s expectant audience.  Are you ready to shimmy on down to the soundtrack that has defined some of the best nights ever?

Big Heart, Big Sounds

Following an amazing 2012 we’re really excited to build on last year’s successes. Everyone from our loyal following of festival goers to performers and press have showered us with praise for our friendly and professionally organised festival. Not prepared to rest on our laurels we’re gearing up for another three days of superb music.

For the 7th year the beautiful surroundings of Myrtle Park will allow you the chance to get up close and personal to your favourite bands. With a three day ticket costing just £45 (+ booking fee) and a limited number of children’s tickets at £30 (+ booking fee) for 3-12 year olds (under 3s are free) , we pride ourselves on being accessible to all, so more people can eagerly anticipate getting to the heart of the action.

Bingley Music Live add The Human League and more!

The Human LeagueSummer CampThe Struts and The Electric Swing Circus are the latest acts to join the line-up for this year’s Bingley Music Live.

They will appear at Myrtle Park between August 30th-September 1st alongside Primal ScreamThe Cribs, The Wonder Stuff, The FratellisLucy SpragganCharlie BrownThe Lake PoetsThe Temperance MovementLoveable Rogues, Natasha HawsRose and the Howling North, and Holy Moly and the Crackers. With such an eclectic mix of artists already confirmed, this year’s festival once again offers something for everyone AND all at the purse-pleasing price of £45 (+ booking fee) for a three day ticket.

We’re thrilled to welcome synthpop royalty The Human League to Bingley Music Live.  With an exceptional back catalogue that spans nine studio albums, four EPs, thirty singles and several compilations, they remain as credible and relevant as they were in 1981, when landmark album Dare was released. A shining light on the electronic New Wave scene, the group has not only achieved huge commercial success but also been responsible for influencing everyone from Madonna, Lady Gaga, Little Boots through to the acclaimed dubstep act Darkstar.   Sing your heart out to Don’t You Want Me, Love ActionFascinationThe LebanonHuman and Tell Me When… the list of hits just goes on and on!

Human League

Bringing their beautiful bubble-gum kitsch to this year’s festival is the aptly named boy-girl duo Summer Camp. Their lo-fi, nostalgia-driven, electro grooves cherry-pick samples and cultural references from the 60s – 80s and crafts them into gloriously upbeat, sing-along tunes with an underlying darker narrative. Released in 2011, their debut album Welcome to Condale received many positive reviews with NME awarding it 8/10 and claiming ‘they're back to (re)make hand-holdy couple-pop their own.’

If you’re looking for a healthy dose of rock and roll in both style and substance come and see The Struts. The four-piece from Derby will parade their vintage-clad swagger on stage with a collection of self-penned songs and an ingenious array of covers. Expect the unexpected! The band make pop-belters such as Cheryl Cole’s Under The Sun truly their own.  Sensational live; the lead singer, Luke’s vocal talent is quite unique… so check them out this summer.

Another up and coming band appearing at Bingley Music Live is The Electric Swing Circus. With their debut album scheduled for release later this year, the 6 piece band from Birmingham have been stunning audiences with their unique blend of cool 20's swing, stomping electro beats and soaring harmonies. Fusing everything from breakbeat and house to jungle and dubstep in a dazzling live show these guys are definitely one to watch.

Big Heart, Big Sounds

Weekend tickets have been frozen at last year’s prices making Bingley Music Live incredible value for money.  A three day ticket costs just £45 (+ booking fee), we also have a limited number of children’s tickets at £30 (+ booking fee) for 3-12 year olds (under 3s are free). Tickets are available online at www.bingleymusiclive.com/tickets or call the ticket hotline 0871 220 0260.

The Fratellis, Lucy Spraggan and more added to Bingley Music Live Festival

The FratellisLucy SpragganCharlie BrownThe Lake PoetsThe Temperance Movement andLovable Rogues are the latest acts to join the line-up for this year’s Bingley Music Live.

Covering a multitude of musical genres these latest additions are a fantastic demonstration of Bingley Music Live’s on-going commitment to showcasing the widest variety of established and grass roots talent. They willappear at Myrtle Park between August 30th-September 1st alongside Primal ScreamThe Cribs and The Wonder Stuff.

Myrtle Park is looking forward to welcoming back Jon Fratelli, this time with his band, the recently reformedThe Fratellis. After a three year hiatus the Brit Award winning, Glaswegian indie-rock trio make a triumphant return to the UK festival scene to promote their third album, scheduled for release in September.  The NME revelled in their “bouncing glamorama” and you can expect the entire BML audience to be doing its fair share of pogoing to their classic hit Chelsea Dagger.

Solo musician Lucy Spraggan, who comes from Sheffield, describes her genre as ‘A-Flop’: a winning mix of acoustic, folk and hip hop. Already picked out by Radio One’s Tom Deacon for her “star quality” Lucy has had an incredibly busy couple of years. Not only was she a runner up in the Live and Unsigned competition at the age of 20, she also briefly appeared on X-Factor before sadly withdrawing due to ill health.  Now back to full strength, 2013 could be Lucy’s breakthrough year into the mainstream.

London-based singer-song-writer Charlie Brown is destined to make a mark on the RnB scene this year. With a string of successful collaborations under his belt including working alongside Tinchy Stryder, Alphabeat, Wiley, as well as, previous Bingley Music Live performers Professor Green and Dionne Bromfield. Charlie Brown’ssoulful melodies and pop-sensibilities have quickly cemented his reputation. Signed to Universal’s All Around The World record label, his singles Dependency and On My Way come ahead of the launch of a hotly anticipated album.

Charlie Brown

Described by the only permanent band member Martin Longstaff as "a collaborative scene in Sunderland" The Lake Poets music is an enthralling blend of acoustic indie-folk.  The fluid and ever evolving line up brings together a plethora of instruments and sounds. With a name that pays homage to a group of 19th Century English romantic writers, The Lake Poets’ music is equally emotive. Our intimate, tree lined venue provides the perfect arena to witness Martin and co.’s haunting performance.

The Temperance Movement in their own words “carry a torch for a fading generation of live bands” which sounds like the perfect reason to catch them doing what they do best at this year’s Bingley Music Live. But what to expect? Recent EP Pride offers a sublime blues drenched fusion of explosive, passionate and soulful music – all played very LOUD. With sell out shows from London to Glasgow The Temperance Movement are causing quite a stir, so come and see for yourself what the commotion is all about.

As a family-friendly event, we are thrilled to bring an element of pure pop to proceedings. Coming to Bingley Music Live this year, Loveable Rogues are not your standard boy band. Signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label, the three London lads rose to fame by reaching the final of Britain’s Got Talent in 2012. So far, so familiar? Yet Eddie, Sonny and Te write and perform their own songs and are building an impressive fan base. Having recently supported Olly Murs, the boys’ popularity is sure to grow during 2013.

Primal Scream, The Cribs and more set for Bingley Music Live

Primal ScreamEveryone at Bingley Music Live will undoubtedly come together to give a massive welcome to Primal Scream. Since the release of the inaugural Mercury Music Prize winning Screamadelica in 1991, the band has achieved the rare feat of becoming part of the shared consciousness of a generation of music fans. See the legendaryBobbie Gillespie performing classic hits from the band’s back catalogue, as well as new tracks from their forthcoming 10th album More Light, which is scheduled for release in May.

The three brothers from Wakefield that are The Cribs bring their brilliantly subversive, full throttle, indie mayhem to Bingley in a Yorkshire festival exclusive performance.  Hailed by Q magazine as "the biggest cult band in the UK", Gary, Ryan and Ross Jarman have enjoyed 10 successful years producing exceptional indie tunes. 2013 has got off to a flying start with the release of their ‘best of’ 22 track compilation Payola, as well as collecting theTeenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution To Music Prize at the recent NME Awards. See what occurs whenThe Cribs’ famous ‘chaos element’ hits the main stage.

After frontman Miles Hunt and violinist Erica Nockalls’ star performance at last year’s BML we’re delighted to announce another exclusive Yorkshire festival set from The Wonder Stuff.  The West Midlands’ finest-ever export will bring their life-affirming exuberance to stir up the loins of Bingley with an outstanding discography that continues to stand the test of time. Expect the eight-legged groove machine to have everyone up on their feet. You’ll be going home with a big silly grin!

The acerbic tongued, South Shields songstress Natasha Haws is receiving some well-deserved radio airplay with her single Stranger which was picked as a BBC Introducing Discovery track at the end of last year. Singer-songwriter Natasha has won a devoted Northern following with her down-to-earth and often sarcastic tales about real-life experiences in her coastal hometown.  Selected for The Sun’s ‘One to Watch 2013’ list, Miss Haws has been praised for her ‘flawless vocals’ and mesmerising performances. Catch her at Bingley Music Live before she hits the big time.

Originating from Wakefield, Rose and the Howling North released debut album Cuckoo earlier this month. An exciting newcomer, Rose has an impressive musical heritage including singing at the Royal Albert Hall and filling Kate Bush’s shoes to duet with Peter Gabriel on tour. A festival veteran, Rose draws inspiration from many diverse influences with the album’s title track conjuring up images of Nancy Sinatra performing a QuentinTarantino soundtrack.

Holy Moly and the Crackers are a young indie-folk outfit from Newcastle making a name for themselves on the festival scene with their engaging and eclectic mix of sea shanties, hillbilly lullabies, bin-fire blues, gypsy dances and soul-searching ballads. Come and tap your toes along to the accordion, fiddle, guitar and the Holy Moly busking drum kit – complete with feathers and all.

Big Heart, Big Sounds

Early bird tickets for 2013 have now sold out but don’t worry! As a huge ‘thank you’ for your ongoing support, weekend tickets have been frozen at last year’s prices.  At just for £45 (+ booking fee) for a three day ticket, Bingley Music Live is a must for celebrating the end of summer in style and offers incredible value for money.

Weekend tickets are available online at www.bingleymusiclive.com/tickets or call the ticket hotline0871 220 0260 (£45 + booking fee).

2012 was a phenomenal year for Bingley Music Live and being shortlisted for the UK Festival Awards Best Medium Sized Festival was a major achievement. Feedback from performers and festival-goers alike continues to be incredibly positive and the media seem unable to hold back the love with Virtual Festivals giving us a rare 10/10 review.

The beautiful surroundings of Myrtle Park will for the 7th year play host to an intimate, friendly and professionally organised three day festival that has won a place in the heart of its loyal following. The chance to really get up close and personal to your favourite bands is one of the event’s stand-out features and means that festival goers can eagerly anticipate getting to the heart of the action.

Opening proceedings on the Main Stage on Friday afternoon we have some special guests performing for us. The band is still to be revealed but they will be one of 18 acts specially selected by a panel of judges to perform on the BBC Introducing Stage at the Hackney Weekend festival this Saturday and Sunday. This initiative is a partnership between the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) and the BBC to bring new music to a wider audience.

Winners of Artrocker magazine’s inaugural ‘Best Live Band Award’ last year The Jim Jones Revue have an unprecedented reputation for their onstage performance. This 5-piece bring a no-holds-barred energy to the fore and a unique take on blues-tinged, punk rock that has a truly vital, life affirming feel. Their speaker-ripping frenzy of furious, pounding sound has earned them an army of followers and you too can be blown away this summer. As lead singer and eponymous band member, Jim, explains it’s a role that “you just feel in your bones.” Here! Here!

The name L Marshall may as yet be unfamiliar but you’re likely to have heard his music. An exceptionally talented songwriter he’s already scored two top 5 hits with Loick Essien’s How we roll and Wretch 32’s Traktor. Now stepping into the limelight, this London born 24-year old will take to the Main Stage to display his incredible vocal talent that melds rap with song in a genre-refining style. Currently busy recording his debut album, BML audiences can experience for themselves the tempo-twisting tunes that range from grime to RnB… catch him while you can.

Over on the Raise the Roof stage, Juan Zelada comes armed with a simple manifesto… toshow everyone “what a good time people can have if they go for it”. Born in Madrid, Juan attended Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts, where Macca even presented the young Juan with a songwriting prize. Fast forward a few years and the hardworking lad has been signed to Decca Records with recent singles from his debut album High Ceiling and Collar Bones receiving heavy airplay on Radio 2.

Back with renewed vigour and vitality after a two-year absence, Karima Francis is famed for being able to hush a crowded gig into complete silence with her bare-to-the-bone sound and raw emotion. Produced by Flood, Karima’s new album The Remedy is due for releaseon 13th August. This extraordinary singer songwriter from Blackpool is set to captivate our BML audience with her highly charged lyrics and potent stage presence.

Fresh from supporting Olly Murs and Westlife on their arena tours, the two Jons, Lilygreen & Maguire have already established a loyal following and look set for big things with a record deal with Warner Bros and the release of new single Ain’t Love Crazy. With their clean cut looks, pitch perfect harmonies and acoustic guitars the duo from Newport, Walesare pure pop magic.

Me and My Friends are the perfect band for a gloriously sunny afternoon at a festival. ThisLeeds based five-piece promise to deliver a healthy dose of musical sunshine that’s sure to bring a smile to your face. Mixing seemingly disparate styles and influences together, the group has mastered creating unified and infectiously upbeat melodies and rhythms. A big, warm musical hug is in store for everyone in attendance.

Acoustic two-piece Spirit of John deliver a raw, rasping and sometimes rowdy sound that evokes the Deep South of last century rather than modern day Halifax! Signed toYorkshire’s dedicated roots music label ‘Ginhouse’ the duo effortlessly encompass blues, country, skiffle, folk as well as occasional punk influences. Regularly joined on stage by guest musicians they deliver a rich earthy sound and robust live performance.

The Milk are four guys from Essex on a mission to ‘bring proper music to the charts’. They succeed in achieving a soulful sound that has something of a retro vibe about it. New singleEvery time we fight is released next week (look out for the video featuring Jay from ‘The Inbetweeners’) and with a string of live dates over the summer and debut album Tales from the Thames Delta to follow later in the year; 2012 could well be the year that The Milk gets the cream.

Leeds based singer-songwriter Matt Belmont has spent the last 12 months tirelessly touring the UK. Matt’s debut EP Not Coming Down was released in February this year, reaching the Top 30 of the iTunes Alternative Chart and picking up airplay on various radio stations including Alan Raw’s BBC introducing show. Expect original arrangements, faultless playing and a confident, mature voice – definitely one to watch.

Originally from London, 16 year old Nico Cara is now based in Richmond, North Yorkshire.Blessed with an extraordinary musical talent, his songs have a worldly-wiseness about them and include some cracking titles such as Back away you stupid bint. As yet unsigned, the teenager possesses a distinctive vocal style that’s sure to have plenty of appeal.

Macquipucuna (that’s pronounced Mack-wi-pa-coona just so you know!!) will be bringing the sound of the Balkans to Bingley. Expect a high-energy musical riot that delivers frenetic Eastern rhythms by a band of super-skilled West Yorkshire based musicians. Formed in 2010 by German violinist Brigitte Mallon, the band’s sole intent is to cause widespread uncontrolled and uncontrollable dancing… something BML audiences always excel at.

Bingley Music Live announce Razorlight

Taking to two of our three stages in Myrtle Park from 31st August to 2nd September, they’ll be joining: Nero, DJ Fresh, The Pigeon Detectives, Hard-Fi, The Charlatans,Maverick SabreDelilahKids in Glass HousesKatzenjammerThe Idiot B*stard Band, StooSheYes Sir Boss, Miles & Erica, Skinny ListerCitizens, King Charles,The ChevinSadie and the HotheadsEllen and the Escapades and The Lancashire Hot Pots.

Razorlight

Razorlight secured their headine status shortly after the release of debut album Up all night in 2004. Since then Johnny Borrell’s band continue to make an impact on the indie rock scene with their brilliant pop songs, exceptional live performances and confident swagger. Expect Razorlight to tear the place up with a stream of massive hit singles including AmericaIn the morning, Golden Touch and many more that are guaranteed to get the Bingley Music Live audience fired up.

Next up, we have one of the world’s truly great performers, Detroit’s finest diva and Motown legend Martha Reeves. A sensational vocalist with undeniable star quality, Martha continues to delight audiences with an incredible back catalogue consisting of some of the 60’s most enduring hits including Nowhere to Run, Jimmy Mack and Dancing in the Street.  Her live appearances during 2010 earned her two nominations for the UK Festival Awards, as ‘Best Headliner’ and ‘Feel Good Act of the Summer’. Come to this year’s Bingley Music Live and catch some of that feel good vibe for yourself.

Recently reunited after a 6 year break, Liverpool’s Space are set to make a triumphant return to the stage at BML. Bringing their unique brand of darkly humorous pop to the proceedings you can expect all your favourite 90’s hits such as Female of the Species,NeighbourhoodAvenging Angels and The Ballad of Tom Jones as well as new material from their new album Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab. Brilliantly bizarre!

For those looking for a much rock-ier tip there’s the Sheffield based Black Spiders.  Their debut album Sons of the North released in 2011 received plaudits across the board, with Rock Sound Magazine proclaiming “their apocalyptic… axe assault is awe-inspiring.” They’re busy thrilling audiences across the UK and mainland Europe and have up coming gigs at Sweden Rock festival, Download as well as BML. One of their tour highlights so far was being selected to open for Ozzy Osbourne.  We look forward to some serious moshpit action.

New kid on the block, Jake Bugg, has had an already impressive musical adventure since his appearance at Glastonbury last year at the tender age of 17.
