Tina's Summer Festival Guide Blog

Tina likes wearing hats. After two cups of coffee she is very nice, before that she doesn’t talk much. She writes about festivals, music events and other random things that catch her fancy, She wrote her first song when she was twelve years old and is currently working on her first novel. In between blogging, writing and song writing, she keeps herself pretty busy by going to gigs and listening to new music; this is considered 'research' and when she reads a magazine or surfs the web its called working, this is most pleasing and she enjoys her life a lot.

Saturday was the single launch of Man Get Out, a Liverpool based band who are getting quite a bit of attention at the moment, so much so that Radio Two DJ Janice Long came all the way up from the big smoke to host the evening.

I've heard Man Get Out play before so I knew it would be a good night but to my great surprise the second supporting act was actually pretty good. This is unusual for support acts of relatively unknown bands, usually I spend this time trying to talk louder so I don't have to hear them; but the four piece band Guardians enticed almost everyone to stop and listen to their heart felt, hard rock. Heavily influenced by popular American rock bands, they reminded me a bit of the The Almost, or Paramore. They gave a great performance; good to watch and fun to listen to, their single 'Follow Your Heart' was played on Radio 2 the next day, so Janice must have liked it too.

As Man Get Out walked on stage, you could tell from the look on their faces that this gig was a big deal for them. A lot of promotion had gone into it and the expectations were high, but as the opening chords of their first track filled the room fears were replaced with excitement, and the pure joy of playing to a crowd that was loving every minute of it. The band played a solid set with some quality harmonies and really catchy songs.

Their sound, akin to Everything Everything, is the kind of music you want to get ready to before a night out, its upbeat and thick with synths and harmonies. The highlights for me were, Geronimo- its got a great chorus it gets people moving and singing along every time, and of course their new single Berlin. Just as I was beginning to really get into the bands performance, to my great surprise, lead singer, Daniel Lloyd Ellenberg, put his guitar down and joined in on a choreographed dance with a group of six dancers. Now, call me old fashioned but I don’t think rock bands should dance, unless its ironic or something. But I'll admit it, it was pretty entertaining, and he wasn’t half bad either.
