Hello internet world, did you have a good new years party? I definitely did, but unfortunately it seems like quite a long time ago now. All the fun stuff about winter is over and now all we have left is, well, winter. Last week I went to see Mission Impossible 4, I don’t really know why I was expecting it to be good, I have a vague memory of enjoying the first one, but I might have been ten years old. It was the worst film I saw all of last year, and I'm glad it was last year so it hasn’t stained 2012 for me. On the plus side, now that its January, we all get to squint our eyes really hard and try to predict the future of music for the year ahead, then, if we get one right we can pat ourselves on the back and congratulate ourselves on our awesome predicting talent. I cant predict the future, sorry, but here are some things I'm looking forward to:
1. Hearing more from The Black Keys, they're on tour at the moment, but its all sold out in the UK, feel free to give me a ticket if you have one.
2. I'm looking forward to Isle of Wight festival, though I must confess I’m not fully up on the back catalogue of Pearl Jam hits yet, (what else is Spotify for?) I have recently enjoyed lead singer Eddie Vedder's solo ukulele album entitled, Ukulele Songs, thanks for keeping it simple Eddie
3. Free music from the freemusicarchive.org and noisetrade.com
What I'm not looking forward to:
1. More rock stars dabbling in musical theatre, maybe if we all write a strongly worded email to Bono to tell him and all his friends to stay away from Spiderman 2 no one else will suddenly think its a good idea to pen Rocky the musical, or worse.
2. Talking about remakes, I'm not looking forward to more remakes or comeback tours of average films or bands.
Hopefully though, mixed in with all the drab sequels and comebacks will be some quality music from new and old acts, that blow our heads off (not literally please) and make us fall in love with music all over again. Happy New Year.
And for those of you who would like to be led into further procrastination, here is Eddie Vedder on a rock in the middle of the ocean, singing with his ukulele as cameras in speedboats drive by really fast, where else would a middle aged rock star be playing his uke?
