FEATURING…

The Meteor Stage and woodland venues – Making its debut this year, hidden in a thirty-foot deep crater with trees lining its edges and bass bins under the floor. Presented by East London underground party Uppercut, The Meteor is the first of the concept stages this year. Playing all the latest sounds of the underground, surrounded by trees and kicking off the party on Thursday. Deeper in you will find the Liquid Stage, a psychedelic adventure that lasts until eight in the morning. Deeper still you’ll come across members of the Secret Garden family, whether it be medieval bard-core ravers or feral fever badger discos. It sounds insane, and probably will be.

The Pyromid Stage – This year the festival’s central pyramid will be a stage in its own right… that is until it burns down on Saturday night in spectacular fashion. The second concept venue, this stage will house a 360 degree sound system and will be presented by London’s underground heroes Hypercolour and The Sneaker Social Club from Brighton, expect the programming to be as explosive as the structure itself.

Polyphant – The Secret Garden Party production team have given the digital arts on site at the festival a new lease of life, with artists such as Polyphant (http://www.polyphant.tv/) commissioned to design a bespoke immersive environment where he will be blurring the boundaries between architecture, light and space. More bespoke installations will be announced soon.

Remix Roller Disco Home to every kind of remix mash up imaginable, from electro-swing to hoe-step, this venue is going to be full of fun, day and night.  With some serious programming from people who are constantly pushing and blurring boundaries of musical genres in the every direction, this is going to be a sight to behold.

The Rabbit Hole – Dreamt up by the well-known Glastonbury character Hamish Guerrini (aka the White Rabbit), The Rabbit Hole is an immersive wonderland. Crack the riddle, get on your knees and go down the rabbit hole into a madcap world full of characters from the mind of Lewis Carroll. Now a legendary Glastonbury institution The Rabbit Hole is a must for both first time Gladers and seasoned veterans alike. This year the trip doesn’t just stop at the end of the hole but twists and twirls as you are transported into a club environment like no other on the planet. Expect the unexpected.

Feast of Fools Bardcore Soundsystem – The merry pranksters Feast of Fools, a long standing collective who feature at The Secret Garden Party every year, will be bringing not only their bar – The Honeymoon Tavern purveyor of finest quality British Mead – but also their eccentric band of players, performers and misfits.

Nano Venues – This year there’s a whole host of exuberant pop-up Nano venues to discover and explore. Swing by Madame Electrifies Discotech where swing meets synth and big band meets bass to party like its 1929. Drop in to The Social-i Travelling Gallery offering Ergonomic art for Odd Shaped People and a place to let your creative side flow with body-casting and clay fun. Or chill out in the communal hammock domes or unwind in the magic garden of the 21st Century Cinema.

Artful Badger – Another collective from The Secret Garden Party joins Glade this year. Introducing the Artful Badgers, feral disco denizens where the party always gets as weird and surreal as it does down right rude and dirty.  If you’ve not seen these guys in action, you’re in for a treat…

New Sanctuary – This year, the Sanctuary is evolving.  There will of course still be an incredible healing area, with therapists skilled in all the holistic arts – from reiki to massage, acupuncture to reflexology, gong therapy, holistic therapy and all that’s in between. We’re also introducing a spa, consisting of hot tubs, saunas, sweat lodges, changing rooms and more.  All brought together in a beautiful area in and out of the trees.  This will be a place to relax, indulge yourself and get seriously clean, both inside and out.

Cafés – This year at Glade, a great deal of love gas been poured into the cafes and food stalls.  Places to chill, laugh…and eat cake! Cafes are the heart and soul of any independent festival, so this year Glade’s gone all out to source some of the best independent traders around. The food court will be a place to meet your missing friends, take a breather from the madness of the festival, regroup, relax and unwind.  There will be a huge variety of food and drink from all around the world on offer, including many vegetarian and vegan options.

Boutique Camping – Gladers who fancy treating themselves to a little luxury over the festival can do no better than getting involved in boutique camping.  With several packages on offer including tipis, yurts and even Beryl – a three bed Cornish country cottage on wheels – there is no better way to experience Glade.  Private facilities, including express parking and festival tickets, come as standard, with each package.lectives & labels representing every electronic genre over 14 stages showcasing hundreds of DJs and live acts from around the globe, Glade 2012 is set to become the must-go-to festival for all lovers of underground electronic music.

Twisted Sound System set for Glade Festival

Headlining the Friday night on the Origin Stage Twisted Sound System are, between them, responsible for ground-breaking music including Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Younger Brother, Prometheus and many other musically defining projects. We’re pleased to announce that they are currently locked in the studio preparing this special one off set featuring synths, laptops, drum machines and much more for a psychedelic journey as never seen or heard before.

Simon Posford is one of the most influential artists in the psychedelic scene. Under the name Hallucinogen, he defined the Goa trance sound with the track LSD, taken from the 1995 album Twisted. In 1996, Simon launched Twisted Records, which is one of the most important trance imprints in the world. After releasing his second album The Lone Deranger in 1997 Simon began collaborating with Raja on Shpongle and went on to produce a trilogy of genre defining downtempo albums. Simon also performed in live outfit Younger Brother with the third member of the Twisted Records Sound System, Benji Vaughan.

From blazing the hippie trail in the sixties through Goa and beyond, founding psychedelic rock band Quintessence and performing at the first two Glastonbury Festivals, Australian-born Raja Ram is known as one of the founding fathers of the psychedelic trance movement. After a brief hiatus, he returned to the music scene at the birth of acid house and alongside Graham Wood and Ian St Paul,  launched TIP Records which later became TIP World, one of the most well-known psy-trance labels in the world. Raja Ram is one half of Shpongle alongside Simon Posford. He is also part of 1200 Mics alongside Ibiza-trance legends Riktam & Bansi AKA Growling Mad Scientists.

Benji Vaughan is most well known for his solo project Prometheus which is signed to Twisted Records. As Prometheus he has released three killer albums: Robot O Chan, Corridor Of Mirrors and Spike

A word from Shpongle ringmaster Raja Ram:

The set will be like three madmen sailing off in the middle of the night in a small boat without a compass, semi dangerous, not for the faint hearted or incontinent, a bare knuckle flight to unreality and back, super turbo charged, size thirteen shoes and an attitude to match

The Secret Garden Party production team have given the digital arts on site at the festival a new lease of life, with artists such as Polyphant (http://www.polyphant.tv/) commissioned to design a bespoke immersive environment where he will be blurring the boundaries between architecture, light and space. More bespoke installations will be announced soon.

Glade Festival 2012 lineup additions

GLADESTAGE LATEST ADDITIONS

EXCLUSIVE UK FESTIVAL APPEARANCE from PLANTAGE 13:
STEPHAN BODZIN,OLIVER HUNTEMANN
STANTON WARRIORS, SYSTEM 7 (Live),
THE CORRESPONDENTS (Live), LEWAH

Glade continues it mission to show the UK’s dance music festival scene how it’s done. Following our first line up announcement two weeks ago, we’re proud to give you a second wave of headliners for the main stage at this summer’s event. If you love experiencing some of the most upfront and exciting electronic music around in a glorious countryside setting, this 4-day event is a REAL festival for serious music lovers. Having blazed the trail for non-commercial dance music events since 2004, Glade is back and you’d better be ready.

EXCLUSIVE UK FESTIVAL APPEARANCE:
STEPHAN BODZIN & OLIVER HUNTEMANN

Stephan Bodzin became a firm fixture on the international techno scene in 2008 with a career that initially began with producing music for several prestigious European theatres. Bremen-born Bodzin’s experimental club sounds saw his mind-blowing talent discovered by Thomas Schummacher and fellow Glade guests Huntemann and Marc Romboy. Due to his exceptional production sound and knowledge of music he has remixed artists like Depeche Mode, Booka Shade andThe Knife whilst releasing on labels such as Get Physical, International DJ Gigalo, Datapunk and Systematic. He describes himself as a melody man going on to say “after all it’s the melodies that endure.” The responses to his productions seem to confirm this and his sounds are greatly loved in clubs worldwide.

Our second headliner announced is Oliver Huntemann. Hailing from northern Germany, Huntemann discovered electronic music as a ten-year old in the late seventies having being influenced by a new wave ofartists hitting European shores likeAfrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash and Whodini. Aged fourteen, Oliver started spinning discs and had his eyes set on becoming a DJ. In the late 80s Huntemann spent six years training and working as an electronic engineer with the German Navy whilst keeping his eyes and ears firmly on the evolving electronic music scene. Following the acid house explosion he began experimenting with his own sounds. It wasn’t until the early Naughties that Oliver began producing under his own name alongside H-Man and Rekorder monikers (the later with Stephan Bodzin) as well as founding and releasing on his own label Confused Recordings, which was followed by Ideal Audio. Over the years Oliver’s work has appeared on fellow Glade headliner Sven Vath’s Cocoon imprint, Anthony Rother’s Datapunk label and DJ Hell’s International DJ Gigalo’s.

In early 2007 alive DJ set recorded at D-Edge club in Sao Paul, Brazil was released under the title Play! 01, followed by Play! 02 recorded at The Rex Club in Paris in 2008; both mixes saw Oliver placed firmly at the top of the international techno elite. Follow this with remixes of Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode and releasing four artist albums, the later of which, Paranoia, dropped in December 2011, Oliver is one of the most exciting artists working in his field.

STANTON WARRIORS, SYSTEM 7 (Live)
THE CORRESPONDENTS (Live) AND LEWAH

Joining the dots between UKG, breaks and booty bass, UK-duo The Stanton Warriors AKA Mark Yardley and Dominic B have been delivering party-shaking anthems since the late nineties. It was their single Da Virus which saw them achieve wide-spread success which was quickly followed by a mixtape titled The Stanton Sessions Vol.1. This saw them explode big time, headlining clubs and festivals across the globe. Add to this a Fabric Live mix, an album and a whole selection of party smashing anthems, theStantons appearance at Glade 2012 will see energy levels fly.

Techno / trance crossover act System 7 have been extremely influential on the international music scene. Having had a strong impact at the birth of psychedelic dance music and throughout its journey up to present date, they have forged an unique and contemporary identity in the space where techno, progressive and trance meet. Having collaborated with Detroit luminaries Derrick May and Carl Craig and many other international icons including The Orb, Laurent Garnier, Jam El Mar, A Guy Called Gerald and Son Kite, their most recent album, Up, released last year, sees the duo deliver a techno and tech house sound inspired by time spent in Berlin. Their live sets are inspirational and we’re glad to have them onboard.

Our last live act, The Correspondents AKA Mr Bruce and Chuck, completely blur the lines, mashing up the history of dance music from Jazz to 60’s Beat, Electro to Dubstep to Drum N Bass and back again. The live shows explore the flamboyant structure of the DJ / MC set-up, with Chuck hurling tracks at the crowd whilst Mr Bruce, dressed in outlandish costume, whips the crowd into a frenzy with his speed-scatting and incredulous dancemoves. Last year’s festival season saw them share main stages with a brass section, an infra-red sensored light box together with their trusty conveyor-belt dance platform. This has earned them The Telegraph’s Top Ten Highlights of Glastonbury two years in a row.

Joining them and kick-starting Sunday’s dub-session is South West fast-rising star Lewah, whose excellently crafted dub and chill-step sets have earned her the opportunity to open for Don Letts.

GLADE STAGE

Featuring the best electronic talent around, the cross-genre Glade Stage is headlined by German techno-legend Sven Vath. Having enjoyed a hugely successful worldwide career spanning over 30 years, Sven is one of the founders of German techno and a driving force behind electronic dance music with his infamous Cocoon label, parties and nightclub. Famous for his marathon club-sets at Berlin’s notorious Dorian Grey to weekly parties in Ibiza to a non-stop global tour schedule, we are very pleased to welcome Sven to Glade.

Sven Vath said of performing: ‘I'm really looking forward to performing at this year's Glade Festival! I've heard a lot about this event, that it is a serious music lovers' festival with a great line up and most of all I'm looking forward to DJing in the great English countryside.’

Joint headlining is Drum & Bass hero Andy C who presents his jaw-dropping Alive stage show. Having spear-headed the scene since the early 90’s, Andy and his Ram Records label have been at the forefront of this UK dance explosion. His Alive show will see a unique audio / visual extravaganza closing the festival on Sunday. Joining these two prolific artists and rounding off our headliners is French techno don Vitalic, a man who has been decimating dance floors across the globe since the late 90s with his unique brand of electronic funk on labels such as International DJ Gigalo and PIAS.

Elsewhere on the line up we see a quality mixture of proper electronic music taking in the progressive from the sublime Robert Babicz, techno from German scene-leaders Marc Romboy and Extrawelt. Drum n Bass is represented by UK duo Drumsound and Bassline Smith whilst Rusko brings the Dubstep and Radio 1 DJ and Sheffield’s pin up Toddla T joins Don Letts for a dub, reggae and beyond set on Sunday.

The Glade Stage also represents live music with US sensation Pretty Lights performing alongside festival stalwarts The Dub Pistols and British hip-hop, grime and dubstep super group Foreign Beggars.

With plenty more talent performing and another exclusive headliner yet to be announced, expect nothing but the best, whatever the genre – all weekend.

PSYCHEDELIC VILLAGE

The Glade is proud to call itself the UK’s spiritual home of psychedelic culture and the Psychedelic Village is a celebration of this. With the mighty Origin Stage at the heart of this area playing host to Nano Records 10th Birthday Party and much more powered by glorious Funktion 1, this stage will be banging come rain or shine. This year we are more than chuffed to welcome back the Liquid Stage, which will run from dusk til dawn in our beautiful new forest area (more on that below…) and playing host to the cream of the UK scene. Providing respite from the onslaught of EDM no Glade would be complete without InSpiral who this year focus on chillout with a superb line up to make your journey complete.

This year we also welcome the team that built the incredible Ozora festival over the past seven years to join us. They will be helping with the décor and production throughout the Village and much more.

Elsewhere expect healing areas, a psychedelic cinema, World Shift, talks, art, food and so much more… Come and join us. This is going to be proper… it really is.

NEW WOODED AREA!

That’s right… we’ve got a lovely wooded area for you to play in this year! The wooded area will play host to two stages; the Liquid Stage and our new open-air dance floor The Meteor that lies in a crater inside the forest. More on that to follow in future announcements! Elsewhere expect hot tubs, spas and many more treats.

OTHER ARENAS ANNOUNCED

OVERKILL RETURNS!

The Overkill Arena returns to play, bringing with it the brashest, loudest drum & bass, gabba, dubstep, hardcore, rave, experimental …and beyond. Last year this venue played host to some of the most exciting and just plain bonkers names in electronica and 2012 will be no different… keep your eyes and ears open for future announcements.

BETA

Our new talent stage plays host to some of the most exciting new talent in the land. We’re keeping this one under wraps at present but think outdoor, pyramid, DJ… more to come.

THE RABBIT HOLE

One of the highlights of 2011, The Rabbit Hole played host to chaos all weekend long. Imagine a backstage bar where anything goes, for those festivalgoers who ventured down the hole this arena was THE party within the party. Running until dawn every night and featuring live music and DJs with very special secret performances, this is the place where anything goes.

AND THERE’S MORE…

Still not satisfied…? Well there’s a roller disco, spa, healing, a feast of food courts, art and not forgetting the burn! There are lots more nooks and crannies that will be confirmed soon, applications are still being accepted for performance and our Nano venues…

… PLUS MANY MORE DJ’s AND LIVE ACTS STILL TO BE ANNOUNCED!!!

SUB FOCUS ANNOUNCED!!!

With less than three weeks to go, the Glade team are extremely excited to reveal that none other than drum & bass legend Sub Focus has been added to the bill. After smashing his headline slot on the Glade stage at Glastonbury last year, Nick Douwmas rise through the ranks of underground jungle to become a major player in electronic music scene has been nothing short of spectacular. Initially known for air-punching, dancefloor dismantling drum & bass, Sub Focus has now become synonymous with music that draws from all corners of the electronic landscape, and has come to epitomise the anything goes mantra of todays flourishing dance scene. WE are very pleased to add him to the bill!

THE VENUE!

One of the most exciting aspects to what has been happening is the organisers are thrilled to bits about the new venue Houghton Hall. With the last minute venue change there was obviously going to be some concern as to how the local authorities would react. Those concerns have completely disappeared and been replaced by the wonderful fact that all the local responsible authorities, including the police, have been hugely supportive of the event. This combined with the utter beauty of the venue, its cracking license and its distance from the nearest town has left a feeling of great joy and excitement. It is going to be a corker!

NEW NANO STAGE ANNOUNCED!!
HYPERCOLOUR / FILTH / YOU CAN CALL ME PELSKI

In addition to the above announcement were also pleased to announce a whole new Nano venue featuring one of our favourite labels Hypercolour, Leeds-based clubnight Filth and one of the UKs most established music blogs You Can Call Me Pelski.

For those in the know, Hypercolour is a purveyor of the finest House and Techno. Their killer lineup features Throwing Snow, Alex Jones, Tom Demac, Huxley, Zumo, Jay Massive, Cedric Maison and Mary Ann Hobbs favoruite Al Touretters to boot!

Leeds promoters Filth are back to bring their outrageous party flavour to the festival this summer. These guys sure know how to have a good time so make sure you catch them over the weekend for some fun and games! Filth boss Danny Savage heads the bill alongside residents and friends King Tut & The Wookie, Alcatraz Harry, Ali Scott, Cristyn Jenkins and Ste Roberts.

Since its inception four years ago, the Pelski blog (http://ppelectro.blogspot.com/) has gone from strength to strength, refusing to post anything but cutting-edge music. Glade Festival new site announced

Glade organiser Ans had this to say about the situation:

“Last week I got back to work having taken some time off to get married the weekend before, to find that the proverbial had hit the fan. We lost our site last week.

The trustees at the Mansion House decided that they didn’t want the event after all, despite contracts signed and deposits paid. The new Glade team decided not to tell me so that it wouldn’t ruin my big day and what they have done, amazingly, is manage to miraculously find another venue.

The new site, whilst being a bit further away from London, is by far superior. It is set in beautiful, privately owned 5,000 acre Estate which set in beautiful parkland laid out in the 1720’s. It is also on sand, meaning excellent drainage, so we won’t be having a repeat of the floods of 2009, regardless of the weather.”

Lord Cholmondeley, who owns Houghton Hall, added:

“We are delighted to be hosting The Glade Festival at Houghton Hall this summer. This is a new event for Houghton but something that we think will work well in the beautiful and historic Park. We welcome the new management team, who come highly recommended, we know are renowned in the industry and have an outstanding portfolio of events. We are excited to see what they do with The Glade, and look forward to working with them.”

Houghton Hall is situated just outside King’s Lynn where the nearest station is. There will be shuttle busses running between the site and the Hall. For full travel information, check the Glade website or email [email protected]
